I just bought the 745 hybrid model and really enjoying the car. Never thought I would buy a hybrid but I basically get all the power and torque of the regular 740 but with the option of going electric and doing about 57 mpg. The electrical charge only gives me about 16-18 miles per charge, but that covers off about 75% of my daily commute, so not so bad and saves me quite a bit of money over time. Still a lot to learn about all the features and many are simply overdone (like the backup option he demonstrates when someone else is coming at you in a parking lot)...just not really going to be used all that much. Also like hybrid vs EV in that I don’t have to worry about will I be close to a charging station and fear of running out of electric.
In the US you also get about a $5K federal tax break and get a break on toll passes.
Finally, reviewer says many hybrid users don’t charge all that often or at all, but I think that’s all a matter of access to charging stations. For me personally, there are about 4 charging stations in my apartment complex so very easy to do. Sometimes not sure if its worth it to charge for about 4 hours and only to get 16-18 miles, but still worth it for me.

My 2020 750i regularly does 37mpg on my (98% motorway) weekly London to Manchester commute in winter, at a regular 70mph (35mpg on rainy or head wind days)
In summer, it has once done 41.6 mpg with a tail wind.
Only slightly worse (about 15% more consumption) compared to my old 6 cylinder ActiveHybrid-5 for the same trip.
But with 523bhp and smooth silky engine/ ride, worth every penny.
I think there is a car behind that grill.

Yes, the driver's face is being scanned all the time; presumably recording, so in a crash the judge can apportion blame, along with all the other built-in cameras! As usual, much enjoyed the high quality driving part, and commentary. Great views forward through the windscreen. At 49:56 - moderation? That was quite funny - love your sense of humour - "Live on Tape". Oh, and the 7-er had an interesting Stop Sign warning! Many thanks Thomas, great video, very professional.

It is gorgeous in person and I have ordered a 750d (SWB) in this pearl effect lovely hue. The fact that the hood now sits higher in respect to the trunk makes it sleeker visually. You should set the suspension in the lowest position so it looks even better but the long wheelbase version doesn't appear as balanced as the standard one to me.
It almost looks like a Rolls Royce when driving.
That grille has grown on me. Almost like now. It is extremely statesman like. The pre-facelift model was extremely good value in base model tim, especially if you were gong to keep it for 5 years.

I think we all need time to get used to the nose/grill. It is too bad that there are no luxury cloth options, and very sad that people don't demand this more loudly from not just BMW but all manufacturers (some are starting to). It would truly make it a contender on my wish list. A great review Thomas. Always looking forward to your reviews. Keep up the great job; you guys are truly a great team!

Very functional. All that cooling probably prolongs the life of the drivetrain by 50%.
double kidney is not even open all the time ..
My Last BMW was a 1988 735 iL and it was and will be my last one, the Transmission Fault in the ZF auto was the last straw, and we went to Peugeots and forgot all about the discrepancy in luxury when the reliability and fuel efficiency took over, we now have an EV as well for around town use.

The Nieren Grill is very ugly, I think they're imitating Lexus with the big front Grill but it didn't work for them unfortunately.
I absolutely hate the proportions of that grille. Looks like a kitchen extractor.

I hate the design in pictures. But I just saw it this weekend in BMW Welt Munchen and I have to say, it looks cool. Either way, no 7 series matched the design of the most special one to me, the e38.
Very thorough video. Good job explaining all the features. But I wish you could have talked a little more about the instrument cluster and its features. I was especially impressed with the reverse assistant.

Facelift! Yes, that's is correct and it was done badly. The kidneys have turned into a pair of lips, and emergency liposuction is needed.

Gah. It's easier to get used to the large grills on the X5 and X7 because they're pretty tall cars. On the 7 series though? It almost looks obscene.

As much as I like cars more than SUVs' I would rather pick the X7 over this.. or the competition.
Grille is way too blunt, looks offensive and just doesn't gel with the overall look unlike X7 SUV which actually is a truck.

I really don't understand the thinking behind the enlarged kidneys. Looks just weird and out proportion. Pre LCI was much better...
When I saw Thomas doing the review, I watch the vid. The new 7 series front is ugly with the oversized grille. I was hoping for better neat looking grille and headlamps like g30 5 series and g20 3 series
Those grills are much larger and bigger than my future..
Its an impressive piece by itself. But it’s a departure from BMW’s conservative design language, and I’m not sure the purists will take to it. I would have done the top of the bumper the same height all the way across, given it some yellow indicators on the outer edges of the front, pushed the headlights inboard, and done a simple small black double kidney outlined in chrome. Maybe a small light in the BMW roundel. There was a time when BMW’s reputation and overall owner satisfaction came from how well the car was built, and how well it performed. So why is there now a need to have all their cars vs virtually screaming “BMW!!!” the way this one seems to? Copyright name: “BMW Billboard Grille”
I understand the car manufacturers feel the needs to change in order to stay competitive, but this change seems maybe a bit too much.
Is BMW making some of the same mistakes Cadillac made about a decade ago? Stay tuned.
Other than the grille, which I really tried to like, it looks like a fantastic car.

The double kidney itself is either closed or inside fins are opened when cooling is needed
Autogefühl That makes complete sense. If this were an old car, the grill would be wide open all of the time.
I’m only into electric cars now, so fake grills do not impress me, but I think that it looks excellent in this class of car. I wouldn’t be caught dead in this car, but it’s perfect for someone that doesn’t care about the environment or the use of animal’s skin.

Autogefühl You’re very welcome, kind sir. I have not found a substitute for animal skin that does not leave my back sweaty. My Tesla Model 3 has really beautiful vegan leather, but I still get sweaty, however, my husband has no problems. It’s a very comfortable material.
Yes indeed. Best for climate comfort is just fabric on the seats. And an alternative would be the ventilated leatherette seats that are offered in the Model X. Hope to see those options more often
This is very obviously a face lift to indicate the relationship between BMW and Rolls Royce and I can't say I like it at all.
