    Hi Adam . As you say , these cars are wonderful to drive . A 4.2 is as good as any luxery car , the V12 reinforces that judgement . I 've driven all types over the years including Ŕolls Royce and Bentley . The XJ series is as good and in my opinion better handling. The RR only beats the XJ in one aspect ......it's presence on the road ! Thanks Adam .

    I daily drive a '92 double six and it is without question the smoothest best riding and driving car I've ever had and cannot describe adequately what a revelation they are
    If only they were a little more frugal....

    I can say from personal experience, that a loud clunking noise somewhere at the front when driving over an uneven surface with the left and right front wheel (like when parking your car on a kerb, which of course i do not recommend as a good treatment for the front suspension) may also be caused by play in the bolt that tightens the two torque bars from the body wings to the bulkhead (I mean the two bars on top of the engine, which prevent the body from "torquing"). Thanks Adam for the video.

    Shock bushes... been there, fixed that. Sounded like hammering when driving over cobble stone paved streets.
    As for those swaybar endlink bushings. If you hear them don't freak out. They are not part of the suspention that creates the geometry for tracking and steering. You can still corner, brake and steer. So even with shot sbar endlink bushings you can still drive the car home or to a workshop. No biggy.

    Another interesting video Adam. Thanks for that. Clear, easy to understand explanations. From Thailand.

    First job on my XJ40 is the spring will be to replace the upper and lower A arms bushings. As of now, the car eats its front tires and cannot be aligned, as they are due for replacement.

    Nice one Adam, wow you found that problem quickly ! I have an '83 XJ6 Series 3, and it does drive so nicely. I really wish it had a 4 or 5 speed automatic transmission, it would help the performance and mileage a good bit.

    Great sleuthing. That banging will soon be a thing of the past.

    Hi Adam. What is your primary source for Jaguar spare parts? I really enjoy your straightforward low key, low BS videos. Please keep up your great work!

    Jag really set themselves a huge job when they had to replace the XJ. How do you improve such a good car?

    Thats was great Adam, lots of stuff to look for there. I have a 1981 XJ6 4.2 that I bought around four months ago here in New Zealand. I have been trying to get it all finished to be able to pass it's Warrant / Mot. Not exactly sure what you call it over there? Anyway it has two different noises which I haven't been able to locate just yet from having not really driven it that much. I had it on the lifts at my work a few weeks ago but that was to do the centre bearing and I didn't know to look for where the noise was coming from at that point. Anyway when you set of there is a slight thud like something is shifting at the rear and then the opposite happens when you come to a stop. The other is when you set of turning left there is a knock knock knock sound for a few seconds from the rear left which could be a wheel bearing? Anyway I will look into it further. Great channel and really helpful stuff.

    I did hit a pothole in my xj6 and it knocked the tracking out, im also getting a rumbling and i do get a metal to metal squeak noise, so the next dry day i will be replacing top and bottom ball joints, track rod ends, wheel bearings and the shock top mounts both sides of the car !

    Those top damper mountings looked a bit putrid, candidates for some replacement welding.

      They are solid, just some light surface rust from a month of banging around

    Great video. Just replaced the sway bar links on my 94 XJS. On the top shock mount, some XJ’s have a sleeve for the bushes, and some go directly on the shock rod. Any thoughts on this?

      Do you mean the washers?

    • @LivingWithAClassic
      @LivingWithAClassic  Рік тому

      Oh I know what you mean now. I think it depends on which shocks you have. I haven’t gotten any new shocks with the sleeves

    • @marktudor2931
      @marktudor2931 Рік тому

      Thanks. I think the X300 has the sleeve and the XJS design has no sleeve. I wondered if there was a current preferred option, since both seem to do the same thing. Thanks
