"It smells distinctly like cocaine." This is the type of honest comparison that I live for 😂
I don't do cocaine. I just love the smell.
@@smokingcrab2290 Dont we all........hypothetically of course...
I don’t like cocaine but cocaine likes me.
@@roymenke1909 Booger sugar loves everyone. She only wants world peace.
*sniffs plate*
... This shit has cut... Uh, I mean it has a shooters cut. Yeah, that's what I meant to say...
With level 4 armor being so cheap, there's really no excuse on not getting a set or two. Thank you for the great video!
yeah i dont understand why anyone would use steel anymore instead of ceramic either
There is an excuse, and that one is size and weight. I don’t have a need for that kind of protection, so I would opt for Hesco Special threat plates.
They lost me at the 5 yr shelf life...
@@redeye8526 steel is durable and lasts forever
if you want to toss something in your trunk or under the seat of the truck, steel won't crack or degrade from heat
@@bornfuct Shelf life means nothing. They still stop rounds.
If you remember, you tested LAPG level 3+.. and those already passed the level 4 test-- being black tip 30-06 AP. So I have no doubt that these will do great. I actually have two sets of these already: I got them on a sale for $103 per plate. I should have built 3 of them.
Yeah caught some while they were on sale for 104
That's one hell of a price! I will keep an eye out
I hear the plate has alot of foam around the edges that don't stop bullets at all
@@snoopywl8880 Did you not watch video? It's just a foam "coating that's barely thicker than paint. watch 10:10 (just click these numbers)
@@calholli well I've seen other videos of the level 4s and they have a good half inch of nothing all around im glad that's not the case
I literally have been researching armor for the last couple of weeks including your old lapg level 3 review and you post a new video today! Talk about good timing.
Thank you for testing those LAPG plates.
I was wondering about them.
Keep up the great work !!!
Love your videos and content! I’ve been a grunt most of my adult life and every time I get a notification that you’ve dropped a new one I always find something interesting or something I didn’t know… keep up the great work brother!
Thanks for this video. I got these plates a few months back ago. This makes me feel a little better
Me: "When I move, you move."
My Multicurve Plate: "Just like that."
Your product tests are always very entertaining! Love your vids!
Great video Mike, that plate is amazing especially for the price.
Another awesome equipment review. Thank you for your work
Love these plate tests👍
Pretty impressive. Thanks for the video!
Awesome video. Great information
You need an A1/A2 with M193 and M855. The extra four inches of barrel make both of those especially hard to stop. The 45 grain bullets are screaming but they are built to come apart when shooting at small fuzzy animals to not ricochet. BTW, you'll need to velocity test your ammo, most civilian 5.56 is only 2700-2800 from a 16 inch barrel. Not the advertised 2950-3100.
Great video very informative!
Thank you for the video! ☺♥
Awesome review!
Three hits, same hole, stopped it. I'm impressed.
I like to see plate testing with the zombie torsos with the ribs and internals. To see the shock effect on your insides after getting hit. With the bulges you see you've got to have internal injuries from the first hit and be most likely out of the fight. But at least a better chance of surviving.
Tanks Mike. Know I'm feeling better about these plates because there the ones I have in my carrier. Take care and ⌚your 6.....
These and Battle Steel are the two best deals out there for Level 4 plates.
Yep. But BOTACH has a poor history with shipping & customer service. LAPG business for the win.
Thanks Mike!
Love these plate tests. So far, which is your favorite, or maybe just what do you use?
I would like to know also !
RMA all the way for me.
I think Mrgunsngear uses the FRAS from Safeline Defense…or at least I think he used to
@@bigc6825 RMA is good stuff but much heavier than these or Botach's lvl4
@@thomasspencer1876 Thats exactly the one I’m thinking about purchasing. Have other armor and carriers from them and they seem solid.
love’em - huge value
I should of watched the video before buying one but glad to see I didn't get ripped off thanks for the testing
Great Video thanks!
As always, great stuff Mike. "All armor must die". lol
👍 great video.
That's a great plate. Thx
I have a set of LA Police Gear Lvl IV plates and a set of Botach Lvl IV. One is multi-curve and the other is a single curve. I ended up putting the single curve plates in the back of the carrier and the multi curve in the front. HUGE comfort difference in my opinion. And I'm not a skinny guy. 275lbs, 5'9", bulky build with a gut added. Hope I never need them but if so, I'm confident they will work better than a denim jacket and a chest rig. Lol.
I was just going to buy this but I was thinking ehh too god to be true. Then mrgunsngear showed up and POW. I’m sold.
Nice. I have a couple of these plates.
Watched a video of these plates going thru four 30-30 rounds. Pretty impressive
Lol!!! The dirt even has grass, lol when I saw that I immediately started laughing
I would have really liked to see some m193 out of a 16 or 20in barrel
Ya it'll stop that just fine
@@muddyhotdog4103 idk. M193 is actually pretty tough to stop if its full power on a 20in barrel
That’s true but it’s not the bullet it’s the speed. So the 45 grain out of a 16 is gonna be faster.
@8:22 That's a weird noise for a firearm to make. It sounds like it's shooting ping pong balls 🏓 or something.
I see a lot of others review where they talk a lot of shit about these. Hard to figure out why.
But I bought my plates because of yiur review. Thank you Sir.
Who else reviewed these that said negative things?
@@BuffRANGE folks who paid 3x more per plate for similar performance.
@@eric_brooks I guess I only pay attention to a few other creators who do armor tests and Mike is one of them. Got a link or channel name?
@@BuffRANGE negative. Just an anecdotal observation. I have these plates and im sure they will be more than i could ever need.
@@BuffRANGEI know this is really old but have you ever tested these? I’ve watched all your tests of the single curve would love to see you do the multi.
I was listening to this video through my headphones while at work. 8:22 sounded like some kind of cartoon gun, I had to park my forklift to watch that part to see what I just heard lol.
Good video
Thank you.
Nice video
Reaffirms my Biases.
Makes me Happy.
Haha I was about to say, what! Sniff sniff 🤣 great content dude
That's good the regular lapg plates have like 3/4 of a inch pad around the whole plate
That is CRAZY for a ‘cheapie’ level IV plate!!! Going to search now and see if you tested tier level III.
Keep up the excellent work brother...I just bought the SAFE LIFE level 4 plates similar to that Chinese made LA POLICE GEAR plate at 338 for two plates so I think that may be a better deal and made in THE US OF A so I'm happy about that for sure. They also claim their plates are only 5.8 pounds.
I got two lapg lv4 plates for 280. This is usually up to preference, but I don’t particularly care where’s something made as long as it works. I’m sure either plate will serve us well, be safe.
I'd love to support local business but they're selling to police and the federal government and those people hate us and will violate our rights. Also I'm young and on a budget so it's based to have a more affordable alternative made oversees, atleast our enemies in the east are selling us decent gear.
I know this is old but I hope you see it because those SafeLife defense plates you got are not Level 4. They are Level 4 ICW (in conjunction with). Meaning you have to wear them over a level 3a soft armor to get level 4 protection. By themselves they are not stopping level 4 threats.
If you wear armor to any length of time, the multi curve makes a big difference.
Unfortunately these plates are out of stock, hopefully LAPG will get a restock soon.
When I first looked into plates many years ago, I was going to get a multi curve for the front and a flat for the back; yes, to save on costs. Then someone... somewhere told me get both in multi curve. Why? If you take a hit to your front plate you literally have a backup on your back.
I bought them because I watched these videos and you posted a link on Twitter for $107 for the single curve, and then saw another UA-cam video where someone tested 4 brands with this being one and it didn’t stop the 30.06 after (1) 7.62x39 and (2)wolf .223. Plus every time he shot them it blew out softball size sections of ceramic which also doesn’t happen here. The same thing also happened to RMA and MIRA plates in that video. So who knows maybe luck of the draw or possibly cherry picked when companies know they’re for a review, but still a good deal.
Can you link that video?
What would be another alternative for these plates if you wanted to go up a little more these do look like some good starter plates
Would like to see the same test but with a ballistic clay "torso" behind it to see the energy transfer.
It's very interesting to see how much depression your body would experience when hit.
If you're worried about that ceramic probably isn't what you're looking for then. They all will deform and punch you pretty hard depending on what's hitting you
Which would you choose lapg or rts? Or even RMA in that price range I need some plates
RMA has level 4 multi curve for 169.99. a bit heavier plate at 8.2 lbs but definitely cheaper.
I've heard these have a foam boarder to decrease weight and no one ever shoots the edges of em. I would go rma they are atleast solid
Yup
Okay, any chance you were in Fayetteville NC at the Systel Building on Wednesday 3/30? If that was not you, beware you have a doppelganger
Can we expectedly get the plates molded to fit the majority of our upper and lower regions adequately or is change a rhino in the room?
Wonder if the dogs think it smells like it too. He a interesting encounter.
What's a site to order these? Thanks for the videos my man!
LA police gear is the website
Putting dirt in boxes while sniffing cocaine? 🧐 Hmm😆😁😁. Thanks for the awesome reviews!
Great review! Regarding prices, what about the RMA level IV?
It works about the same in quality but it's heavier by quite alot
RMA is only useful when you're stationary. If you need to Move, RMA is impossible to wear
Wait! You "WAS[sic] a FORMER law enforcement officer"??? So you're back on the force? Fed!!! :) Had to poke a little fun...
8:20 that's a really odd sound signature.
Will these plates cause a hit from a canine working the road?
Asking for a friend.
Thanks
I wouldn’t trust an armor plate from LA if it DIDNT smell like cocaine
have you tested RMA Defense lvl 4 armor yet?
Suppressed mpx sounds like an airsoft 😳
If they made it out of compressed Bolivian Gold that'd be one esspennsive plate.
Well shit, looks like I need 2 of those and an Atlas Carrier
Is that a black tipped 30-06 in your pocket? Or are you happy to see me? LOL
🤣🤣🤣
Apparently Mike likes to party
I wanna see what .338 Lapua does to level 4 armor!
It will probably stop it from penetrating but the backface deformation and energy transfer would be devastating anyway.
I got these 2.5 years ago for 250 for 2. Damn stuff got expensive
I am a Dutch guy, from the Netherlands 🌷. Absolutely no experience with armor plating. But I'm a big guy, 2 meters tall. 6 foot 7 ? Anyway, these plates always seem so small to me; are there no bigger ones? Longer and wider?
Always enjoy your vids!
Greets, T.
@Tony
The largest military specification personnel armor plate available here in the U.S. that I'm aware of is 11x14 inches.
Or, X-Large SAPI.
Those are freedom units of course.
Converted to Communist Measurement units the plate would be
28cm x 35.5cm
@@nutsnfancy : oké, thanks!
It's illegal for American people to ship armor to EU countries.
Just order XL plates from protection group Denmark (best plates on the Civil market)
Or Militech XL ESAPI plates.
@@aesthetic8780 : Thanks, appreciate it 👍
I wear armor for a living. Right now I carrying AR500 level 3 plus steel. The total weight is 16lbs, and I wear it for 12hr shifts and I stand or walk the whole shift
Wtf? Why should you do that ?
@@aesthetic8780 why wear that or why do what I do for a living?
@@mma709 Why wearing steel plates? Its a steel target, not Body Armor. It's perfect for car doors or similar stuff but not on the body. On top it's extremely high in weight.
@@aesthetic8780 one it’s what I can afford two I trust American made steel plates over China made ceramic. I actually get shot at on a regular basis
@@mma709😅😅
SIZE and shape matter. Curve for the front. Flat for the back.
So it has a gassy like kerosene/methylene smell to it? I once "smelled" that stuff too at my job
At what point would backface deformation kill a person?
BEST COMMENT EVER... "Smells just like cocaine for some reason"...🤣🤣🤣
JUST GOT this same plate for $119 off their site. OH, Forgot about the added 10% discount... All in +Shipping, Just over $100...Ready... AND... BUY😅
My level 4's weigh 4 pounds, but I ain't throwing those on most situations. Normally I wear level III+ from Dayton armor, RF2 that weighs 2 pounds.
Great stuff...but that RF2 is like $740.
@@Matt-dc8lp Yes, but I was willing to pay for mobility, I did get a discount however. Lugging around 12 + pounds of armor is something I will avoid if possible.
for the algorithm!
Which agency? I thought you were counter-atf sleeper cell.
Bet this LA Police armor still wouldn't withstand a slap from Will Smith
Great content and some solid, affordable ceramic hybrid plates! They need a reddit forum called Le Police Gear 🤣
THICKKKK 😮
The only question I really have is, what is growing in the field and how does it respond to lead poisoning? Lol
I believe he has said it’s tobacco.
Is that smog coming out of the plate? So that is how LA is cleaning the air.
I'm pretty sure that smog came from China somewhere.
🤣🤣🤣
👍💖
🤙🏻💪🏻🇺🇲
If they are so light, why not make a standardized larger size? It's like, "-make sure you hit me in the plate!".
Why do people still hate on LAPG? Ik that obviously it doesn't have the best quality control but what other problems does it have with it?
You probably have multiple 20" AR's. I wonder why you don't use them for these tests.
Would have been hilarious if the first shot the plate exploded into a white cloud of cocaine lol
Does anyone else feel they need 11x14 inch plates? I'm 6'0" with a 30" length pant, meaning I have a looong torso. Wearing the regular plates in a plate carrier makes it feel like I don't even cover everything essential, I know it's a last line of defense but still I feel the bigger plates would be better for me. Worth the additional cost? Anyone run bigger plates, or hell even side plates and/or added kevlar in different spots for added protection?
If youre super long/wide in the torso and a 11x14 doesn't hinder your movement or shooting positions too much then go for it, but unless you've tested one I'd just stick with 10x12 at your size .. I'm 6,4 -225lb with a long torso/wide chest and I feel confident wearing a 10x12.. it's only meant to cover your heart and most of your upper liver area which are very high up, not your intestines and kidneys. Pretty much what your ribcage covers, any lower than that and it's uncomfortable as it obstructs your movement when bending over or sitting. I could get away with a 11x14 but I'd rather have better mobility..
Everyone I talk to who’s served or in the industry tells me these are absolute garbage and will get you killed because they aren’t NIJ certified. Heavier plates means better protection from what I’ve been told and you NEED to run trauma plates. I think you just proved that this plate is the real deal as always. For the price LAPG is hard to beat. And at 6 lbs it’s not going to kill you LARP’ing around the woods either!
I feel like this armor is the best for armed security situations because it's not too heavy and definitely will handle anything some street thugs are gonna bring
@@connor1982 yeah I agree I’m thinking about getting some of these. Like I said in my original comment people I know said these aren’t worth it when your life is on the line but considering if that happens I’m in a terrible place anyway if I get shot once or twice if I can walk away from that it’s already a bad situation and having better plates isn’t going to help anyway and should just get away from the bad situation instead lol. Unless all hell breaks loose in this country I’m not going to be waking around with $800 set of nij level 4 plates. Most threats will be from handguns anyway.
Yeah man, this hype about USA MADE $1000+ body Armor is such a scam. Especially because 90% of the armor is made in China. UHMWPE is not possible to made in USA. It's only produced in China. USA has not a single UHMWPE fabric.
The heavier plates are better for protection thing falls apart when you look at some of the really spendy really light hesco plates.
I like mine it will do the job. Getting shot sucks. Let me tell you
Sold You had me at Cocaine!!!!!!
I have never snorted cocaine I just smelled it.
I hate cocaine, I just love the way it smells.
@2:40, Some Marshall, somewhere, wanna fact check this statement.
