Congratulations on your first wedding! I also have been mostly doing street in the past and now I've set the goal for 2022 to get my first paid gig. I'd love to see a video from you talking about your experience in regards to getting hired and managing the project/shoots. It would be very insightful and make us aware of what challenges can arise when getting started :D
Thanks a lot, Michael. Just shot the 2nd this week. Gonna try and book more. I'm rooting for you as well. I absolutely plan on doing so sharing things I learned. Expect it!
Thanks! Honestly, I was surprised and it hurt me to sell it. The AF traveled quite a bit but when it locked on, pictures were clean and crisp. I'll regret selling it...until I get my hands on the f/1.2, lol
Thank you for your work sir. I am renting the RF 24-70 next week. I have the C70 and can’t wait to purchase the R1 when it comes out. I’m not sure if I can wait that long so I might just go ahead and get the R3 😅
Thank you, Francis. I have wonderful memories of shooting with a high-quality 24-70/2.8 in my film days. It's such a great choice for 90 percent of what generalist photographers do - for meetings, classrooms, stage events, rehearsals, interviews, sports, dance, journalism, weddings, etc. I could easily live with a 24-70 (or more affordably, a used copy of the superb EF 24-105L F/4). Add Canon's RF 16mm f/2.8 and an affordable tele like any of the five versions of the EF or RF 70-300 IS, and just go have a blast and get great image quality.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Versatility is such a cliché when referring to this lens but there's just no better word to describe it; it's just a great all-around lens. I just ordered the RF 70-200 f/2.8 which is yet another staple in a wedding photographer's bag so I'm crossing my fingers it's worth every penny because it certainly wasn't cheap! What do YOU shoot specifically?
Hi Francis. I bought the R6, largely at your recommendation and that of a few others. I shot 2,100 frames at a small event on Saturday and was very pleased with the photo quality. Of course, 2,100 reflects the ridiculously fast 20 fps electronic shutter! I've since assigned the AF-ON and * buttons to single-point and EyeAF respectively. I kind of wish we could assign * to some kind of "continuous" EyeAF so we could take our thumb off the * button while tracking and shooting. I also have the EF 24-105L F/4 and an EF 70-300. I'd like to have the RF 16mm and either the EF 70-300 II or L. I like funky used lenses with perfect glass and cosmetics that only a mother could love. I think it's called the Wabi Sabi aesthetic in Japan - the beauty of old, gnarly, and imperfect; at age 80, I can identify. Cheers, Francis - I hope you're doing well.
@@AnandaGarden R6 gang! Love it. Thanks for that, by the way. I have the continuous AF by soft-pressing the shutter button at it tracks the eyes as well as it can as long as they're obviously facing me; hope that helps. Thanks for the input, Ananda. Keep on rocking!
I honestly do. The people whom I know own this lens is harsh conditions have told me no humidity or dust has gotten in while shooting in the elements. I trust it.
I appreciate you stopping by! You and me both. I weighed both options and came to the conclusion that the stabilization and the extra 4mm far outweighs the few extra stops of light. I'm a stabilization fiend and I place more importance on that than f/ stops. In all honesty, the price tag doesn't justify the purchase, at least IMO. 24-70 has been an absolute dream.
@@infiniteoneproductions oh, you bet. It's a workhorse and it's gonna last you a LONG time, not to mention is lighter than that 28-70 as well. It was a no-brainer for me.
Great question! As explained, I don’t have them side-by-side since I sold my EF long ago but, if memory serves me right, this one is a tad sharper. Todd Dominey made a great comparison video; you might wanna check it out. If you own the EF I don’t think you should switch unless the IS is paramount to you and/or you wanna ditch adapters altogether.
You’d love it. I just sold all of my non-L glass (see Community tab) to cushion the blow of getting the 70-200. I wish Sigma would come out with RF glass but that won’t be happening anytime soon.
@@FranciscoAlvarezTV I mostly shoot street/portrait. The new RF24-70 makes the OG EF images look like I was shooting on an M50. Your video helped make my decision.
I have a Canon R and that control ring would be awesome to have
I do, too! Love my R for detail shots. Control ring comes in quite handy.

Great video! I'm trying to decide on the RF 24-70 2.8 or the RF 28-70 2.0. That price for the 28-70 is steep with no IBS.

dont do it 2.0 is too heavy
Hi! How this lens compares do the EF sibling??

Todd Dominey made a great comparison video; you might wanna check it out. Curious minds want to know: what kind of shooting do you do?
Can u honestly tell the difference between shooting with an IBIS body like your R6?
Most definitely! The shake correction is enhanced when you shoot in low shutter speeds. The EF doesn’t do so well.
I want that lens so bad!
It’s definitely a keeper if you wanna take your photography to the next level.
Is that f/2.8 aperture good enough for you?
I honestly think it's more than just "serviceable". F/2.8 can provide quite a bit of compression.
I like this type of review better, I don't like when others get too technical.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Most of us live in the real world. I hate pixel peeping.
How long did it take you to save for this lens?
Quite a bit but totally worth it. Be smart with your money though!
I’m eyeing one for my r6 myself. Probably gonna have to offload my EF 24-70 2.8L & EF 20-200 2.8L to offset the cost. Damn Canon you pricey!

2 lbs. is a lot to lug around for a full wedding day.
I agree, by no means is it lightweight but totally worth it IMO. The image quality you get out of this lens is magical!
