I am a 68-yr-old native Californian and I cannot tell you how much I want to dance with you to the this song. I am proud now to be a Little Old Lady from Pasadena. So fun to listen with you!
Me too -- '62. Just old enough to hit the 70's and always listening to the 'oldies' of the 50's and 60's. Best of both worlds, and music at its peak. Every day, all day. And ridiculously blessed to still be here listening and talking about it ☮
Coming to California in 70s from Ireland, I greeted everyone I passed with my Irish " Hello, Isn't it a beautiful day", ! Of course, they thought I was a lunatic!!!
I sing this to myself when I have a PTSD. episode. Gets me through sadness and homesickness(San Francisco). I was only two when this came out. It’s priceless and perfect.
I would definitely recommend to you, James (my brother from a different mother), watching the live performance of John Denver and Cass Elliot from the Mamas and Papas, singing a duet of "Leaving on a Jet Plane"
Great don't forget the great 5th Dimension with Marilyn McCoo Billy Davis. Wedding Bell Blues, Up up Away, Aquarius, Stone Soul Picnic, One Less Bell to Answer..
There is no better music than what came out in the sixties and seventies. Kids today in 2023 don't understand and don't know what real music is. You know something is wrong when a song about liking big butts is a hit...!!!
I just love love love you sweetie! I grew up listening to this music *I'm in my 50's*...and I get super emotional about it still! It makes me so happy to see a young person really FEEL this music and appreciate it! God Bless you sweetie!
...but back then, we would have longed to be in the present time to hear our music with the glorious crystal clear clarity that technology now affords. I grew up at the perfect time. You have also because you get to hear "The Best of" in all its glorious crystal clear clarity. We too are hearing it for the first time, sounding better than we could have imagined. Just wait. You will get to see a new generation discover what you have discovered and it will be just as satisfying as me tearing up watching you.
Hey Bro, IT was NOT before your time. You're are WITH us, the 1960s. It's all in the HEART, it's all in your SOUL....and YOU got it, you were and ARE there Brother
My moms music! When I was just a small child in the 70s this music would be playing in the kitchen and I was like who is that. She said it's The Mamas & the Papas which made me laugh that a band was named such. Even as a very small child I love how they harmonize so perfectly. My mom was a huge Cass Elliot fan.
I m old enough to remember the carpenters when they had their hits but teenage boys couldn't be interested in such a nice band but we secretly liked some songs however when you went through your carpenters trip about 2 years ago i was right there with you brother. Rediscovered esp Karen just fell in love with her and her artistry. Now shes up there with Beatles led zep etc as a all timer.
Brother you have picked one amazing group to react to. They didn't last long but their influence on music will stand the test of time. Everyone in the group had their specialty but the soul of the group was Cass Elliot, she is the most talented, beautiful, sexy , smart, I could go on forever talking about how much I admire her but if I was you, I would definitely read the back story to this group, its a happy to sad ending to one of my favorite groups ever.
Loved this reaction! I've been on holiday to California, it is so beautiful. Everything is so grand and vast, the trees are taller and the surroundings are wilder than in Europe for sure. We went to LA and San Francisco, both beautiful. The beach was very nice, I really loved the little Venice neighborhood. It felt European and American at the same time hahah. And while we walked over the golden gate Bridge, a whole bunch of whales swam underneath! I've never seen anything like that, so amazing. Definitely California dreaming!!
You have to watch 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Musicians took turns and then sat in the crowd. A lot of other musician first introduction to Jimi Hendrix. The film showed mama Cass‘s reaction. Mouth open, shaking her head in utter disbelief. Everyone was in shocked and amazed! Best music festival film ever!
I'm a misplaced California girl and just listening to this brings tears to my eyes. Even with all the turmoil going on in Cali, I miss it. Gotta get back. 🙂
Great song and great reaction. Definitely a blast from the past. Since you're in the rabbit hole, might I recommend "Dream a Little Dream of Me". It's as smooth as silk.
This was a very popular song here in California, especially with the young people. We had The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, and other California based groups telling everyone else how great it was to live in California, and back then in the '60's, 70's and '80's it was a great place to grow up. Great memories.
Awesome that you are enjoying time travel back to some great old music. I was a young man living in Southern California when this was a contemporary song...it was a magical time and place. Songs like this remind me of cruising along long desert highways in my beat up old station wagon, with a cheap AM radio cranked up loud, heading for the mountains to hike and fish. Good times!
It's good to see you when you feel happier James. It's concerning when you're down. Would you consider reacting to song of Women by the Hu and Lizzy Hale. Best wishes to you.
here’s an underrated/underlistened Mamas&Papas song: Sing for Your Supper. when I was a DJ on my college radio station I’d spin it twice an hour bc I loved it so much.
You'll get back there man. I got married on a snowy Boston February, flew to San Diego, and honeymooned all the way up to San Francisco and back. Green and sunny, the whole time, but for an odd hailstorm on our first day there. Beautiful state, your home! I'm now in Charlotte.
I read a story about John Phillips not wanting Cass Elliott in the group because of her size, he changed his mind after he heard her sing, it was Denny that took her to meet and audition for John.
GREETINGS From LA... The BEST of the Great Mamas & Papas. Yes, the closest thing to a TIMEMACHINE we will ever have.. HAPPY New Year to JBLETHAL TV..!!! 😊
Dude...this wasn't before your time. I was a young music fan back then and the closest I got to this dreamy song was to watch them sing it on a black and white TV with a 3" speaker on a cold dark winter night. You got stereo headphones and ...the COLOR version. You have it better than I did. It's all relative. If you're watching it, and hearing it...it's not before your time...your time for this song is now. Let's all just thank the Gods that someone had the sense to hit the RECORD button. Cheers.
What a great song, along with the harmonies and dreaming about being in California. The Mamas & Papas were pretty big back in the 60's. Another great song by the group was I SAW HERE AGAIN, worth a listen.
I would recommend and love to hear your reaction to Jonathan Antoine's solo version of 'The Prayer' where he harmonizes with his own voice! I know you loved his version of 'Unchained Melody'! I guarantee you will love his version! Your reactions are so genuine and truly emotional! Welcome Back to you James! Hope you feel better soon! Thank you so much for your help! You are my favorite reactor to songs! You know good music/voices when you hear them!
It is a fantastic song, came out in the year of my birth so its getting on a bit, just like me and its weathered a bit better then me too..I never tire listening to it, it makes me smile . .
Yes sir l listen I grew up listening to that song but I never got to see it perform live like this so yeah UA-cam is great and this was wonderful watching with you watching with you
Experiencing "new" music makes folks curious about the time period that they were written and recorded, which introduces them to wholly different ideas, art, films, etc. Being open and curious is now like being an endangered species, so welcome aboard!
They were mostly a studio (hippie) band, they didn't do many live shows. They had sad history, though, lots sadness... BTW, he wrote this song in NY... :-)
Hi JB!!Please react again, our lady,Ms.Karen Carpenter..i missed your reaction with her.Karen, covered this song,too..Please if you consider,I'm Caught Between Goodbye and I Love You or I Have You by Karen Carpenter..
One of the many brilliant songs by the troubled genius John Phillips (the one playing guitar). He was married to Michelle...the gal on the end. Don't feel badly that you never saw them perform. I grew up in their era and I never got to see them. Anyway, their recordings were arranged so beautifully with vocal overdubs and with the aid of the studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew, that it would have been VERY difficult for them, in that era, to duplicate the magic of their recordings. This was a problem for nearly all musical acts of that period...and one reason why the Beatles stopped touring.
I know how you feel. I have grown up wishing I had have been a teenager in the 50s and 60s whereas I was born in 1968. Although I got to be a teenager in the 80s, which was great, I just always had the feeling I should have been born earlier.
So now great to see you back and getting into another of my all-time favorites Mammas and Pappas. Side note if you saw movie once upon a time in LA they depicted the girls or ‘the mammas’ if you will as back drop to the story. Movie reference for Carpenters is Tommy Boy with Chris Farley all-time great comedian where their in car and cant each admit they dont want to change the station when Superstar comes on you have to see the movie if just for that scene if your a Carpenters fan.
I grew up on a reservation 30 miles east of San Diego, I left in 2001 I go back to my reservation for a month every summer, you can take the girl out of the rez but you can't take the rez out of the girl lol
I stopped listening to modern music 20 years ago because it turned to garbage IMO, but I'm amazed by the classic music people haven't heard. When i say garbage, i found it just turned to love song after love song.
That million dollar smile of yours is everything! Don’t EVER lose it! It’s your super power! 😍
That precious smile on peoples faces when they hear the song for the first time...
I'm almost 70 so I grew up with all the music that you are loving, just like we did.
I am a 68-yr-old native Californian and I cannot tell you how much I want to dance with you to the this song. I am proud now to be a Little Old Lady from Pasadena. So fun to listen with you!
I feel I was blessed to have been born in the 60s. We had the best music.

I was born in 1967. Yes we did.
Love to see some OG 60’s men re-unite 😂
Coming to California in 70s from Ireland, I greeted everyone I passed with my Irish " Hello, Isn't it a beautiful day", ! Of course, they thought I was a lunatic!!!
It's nice when music makes you happy isn't it James? x
I sing this to myself when I have a PTSD. episode. Gets me through sadness and homesickness(San Francisco). I was only two when this came out. It’s priceless and perfect.

Oh, yes…
@@shantimattie9916 It's just a perfect duet
@@noneofurbizness5838 yes it’s good
Yes John Denver and Cass is really worth a listen, it's great.
Only one of them remains, the blond!
Great don't forget the great 5th Dimension with Marilyn McCoo Billy Davis. Wedding Bell Blues, Up up Away, Aquarius, Stone Soul Picnic, One Less Bell to Answer..

this is really touching how much he enjoys them. they were so special. :)
I just love love love you sweetie! I grew up listening to this music *I'm in my 50's*...and I get super emotional about it still! It makes me so happy to see a young person really FEEL this music and appreciate it! God Bless you sweetie!

I grew up by the beach, East coast. I miss the ocean likes it's a person. I cry as soon as I get close.
Absolute tune and classic of all time 💙
I knew this would give you happiness. I was a teen when this came out and had their album, which got stolen. Love those vocals!

Love the chair dancing
Nice to see the joy of doing good music reactions on your face again.
I'm a misplaced California girl and just listening to this brings tears to my eyes. Even with all the turmoil going on in Cali, I miss it. Gotta get back. 🙂
Just posted that. I've been visiting the east coast during winter in PA,I just bought my ticket back home to LA,with tears of joy
I saw them perform this live in Cleveland back in the day. They were wonderful!
It’s nice to know that there are people out there, like yourself, who are as deeply touched by good music as I am. Best of luck to you!
I love this song. There is a song called "San Francisco" by Scott McKenzie that you may also like.
YES! Put some flowers in your hair! I love that song.
these videos are a time capsule of history...glad they exist so we future generations can discover these.
Great song and great reaction. Definitely a blast from the past. Since you're in the rabbit hole, might I recommend "Dream a Little Dream of Me". It's as smooth as silk.
And you will get to experience Mama Cass's wonderful voice!

Omg I LOVE This Song, Great Reaction JB 👏🏽❤️
Your such a sweet man. I just want to hug you! Love watching your journey through wonderful music...
You NEED to listen to ALL their songs, JB, they are ALL fantastic!! I have all their lps from then, bought them when they first came out in the 60s.
Keep playing and enjoying music!😁
It's good to see you when you feel happier James. It's concerning when you're down. Would you consider reacting to song of Women by the Hu and Lizzy Hale. Best wishes to you.

James, for decades people couldn't listen. Thank God for technology. I hope you find the place to live that brings you joy.
I visited California from London in 1979 and this is how I remember it :)
Thanks - it’s like hearing for the first time through your reaction!
What a great song, along with the harmonies and dreaming about being in California. The Mamas & Papas were pretty big back in the 60's. Another great song by the group was I SAW HERE AGAIN, worth a listen.

As good as music's ever been.
my personal two favorite groups of the 60's, the doors and the mamas and the papas....the one and only cass elliot!...
I had a cassette tape when I was young of my favorite music (yes I am old) and this song was on it. Lovely memories!
i'm born and raised in L.A. ... and after 30 years on the road I'm back in L.A.
With so many people fleeing the state to Red states, a new song entitled "California Leavin'" could be a big hit !
Experiencing "new" music makes folks curious about the time period that they were written and recorded, which introduces them to wholly different ideas, art, films, etc. Being open and curious is now like being an endangered species, so welcome aboard!
Good to see you swayin' to the beat of such a beautiful song!
They were mostly a studio (hippie) band, they didn't do many live shows. They had sad history, though, lots sadness... BTW, he wrote this song in NY... :-)

Thanks for this smash song from Mamas & Papas from 1965! Stereo? Song for the flower power time in USA..
You have such a beautiful appreciation for music from times past. You were born too late!
Astounding, good-feeling recording. I loved your time machine-headphone-portal comments.
One of the many brilliant songs by the troubled genius John Phillips (the one playing guitar). He was married to Michelle...the gal on the end.

Ya man! these guys captured that Cali' feelin' for sure. Now try Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco".
Love the M's and P's.
I love your face as the words kick in
Love Mama's & Papa's. Please check out " I saw her again last night"By M&P

Such a feel good song. Glad to see you smiling again. Stay well!
classic friends
don't know what's more nastalgic the flute dolo or the group's Harmony!!!!!
I stopped listening to modern music 20 years ago because it turned to garbage IMO, but I'm amazed by the classic music people haven't heard.
When i say garbage, i found it just turned to love song after love song.
if you love old classics, listen to albert Hammonds "it never rains in Southern California" It's an all time favorite for me and a great 70s hit! :D
That’s a great song
You need to hear the Carpenters take on this song!!
❤️❤️❤️
