growing up, my mom made 3 variations of corned beef depending on what we have! one is the "normal" way, with the garlic, onions, tomatoes, potatoes. another is corned beef, onions and shredded cabbage. and the other was corned beef, onions and scrambled eggs mixed in! such a comforting homey meal!
Well now I know what I’m having today (or soon😂). My dad always made this for us using Libby’s brand (red and black label); no tomatoes, no egg, no potatoes; just garlic and onions and rice 😋. My version as an adult has tomatoes, and I scramble the egg in. I like it browned, the crunchy bits are the best; with a splash of white vinegar, on rice. Thank you always, this brought back memories 💖
I haven’t seen your videos in many years, and wow, the girls are sooo big now! The years really do go by quickly. It’s nice to see your family doing well tho. 😊
I’m Filipino-America and I’m first generation Filipina. My parents ALWAYS cooked their corned beef with tomatoes, onions, garlic and patatas. My pops always added patis for a little touch of saltiness! So Filipino!
I have gotten the garlic before what I do is mince the bag. I then scoop them with melon baller, lay them on cookie sheet freeze them, and store them in a freezer bag. works well for me.
Try cooking the tomatoes first until they’re soft & mushy (adds a lot of flavor), add onion and garlic, then add your corn beef at the end. Corn beef is usually very oily itself so use a little oil to saute the veggies.
@@The4thLettersofrito is like the base of food for Latin Caribbean countries, in Dominican Republic we make it with peppers, onions garlic, cilantro, culantro (verdura), orégano, some chicken bullón. Puerto ricans do it too but the ingredients can change up. You either blend it and have it in the fridge ready to go, put that thing in everything! 🥴🤗 you can marinate meats, you can start arroz con pollo, beans, anything! It’s limitless! Hahaha
@@The4thLetter Sofito is a blend we make which includes cilantro, peppers, onion, garlic, culantro and a small sweet pepper which i dont know what it is called in english. We blend it all together and use it as a starter with our dishes. when you fry it up alittle the aroma is so fantasic.
Most garlic comes from china now, esp processed. Even the Gilroy garlic festival has closed. This happened in not much more than 10 years. I remember canned corned beef cooked with onions, seasoned with soy sauce, and served on rice with eggs. How about a poached eggs tutorial?
The canned corn beef hash with the potatoes in it is definitely a quick way to get a meal served. In Hawai'i we add some flour, green onion, and egg to it and make a corned beef hash patty. Eat that with a fried egg and some hot rice.. and maybe even a longanisa **chef's kiss** 😘✨️.. outta this world!
I had this the other day. Luckily the restaurant I was at was able to replace my hash browns with rice. And I happily ate my corned beef hash with rice and eggs. Filling and yummy.
My parents would cook corn beef once or twice a month when I was a kid growing up... you're bringing back memories. I didn't like it much either, JB is right, the egg makes it good.
Thanks for the video, Benji! My husband is super excited about us attempting this dish. On a side note, you made him laugh when I was watching...."This is canned meat...you don't know what it is!"😂
As portuguese it's fascinating to watch your videos. I've never tried Filipino food (though I'd love to one day), and I really want to try some of the recipes, but there aren't many Asian grocery stores in Portugal. For me, the supermarket/grocery store videos are mind-blowing because, in Europe, supermarkets are much smaller, even the ones considered large. The product sizes are much smaller, and there isn't as much variety. Usually, we don't have an organic section because there are a lot of rules that the producers have to follow. We have a "Bio" section, but it is usually very small. One day, when you come back to Europe, visit a supermarket and you'll see the difference. 😅
I bit the bullet and got a Breville espresso machine. Found the Barista Pro at Home Goods for half the price brand spankin’ new unopened box. Still trying to get the dialing down, but thus far I’ve made a Viet iced coffee (which is my favorite) and I’m impressed. Did you grow up eating Mackerel in a can with tomato sauce(red can)? My mom cooked it often when I was young on the stove with green onions, sugar, spicy chiles, and a splash of fish sauce over rice.
That can Cornbeef is so Unhealthy! 🤨😬 But oh so GOOD for my Soul! 😋😁😂 I like using the can cornbeef that's made in Brazil, i find it's less oily...Also i think Cornbeef hash is better when made from scatch. I hate that can cornbeef its gross! 🤢 Btw that cornbeef hash looks FIRE Benji! 🔥🔥😋❤
I just click like even when i don't know what Benji is doing...at this rate will like even the video's that have not yet been done... I would even watch even if he was cooking grass

YES! The Palm brand of the Corned Beef Hash is by far the best one with the potatoes inside!

with shredded cabbage is the best! i used to hate cabbages, but with corned beef it adds so much texture and crunchiness!!!
Thanks Benji! When you mentioned the canned corn beef in your most recent Costco video I was hoping you would make a video! Can't wait to make it!
Never heard or tried corned beef hash. Looks delicious, thanks for sharing!
Yes! My favorite is the corn beef with the potatoes and still is.

us puerto ricans call it the poor mans food. we make it with french fries, tomato sauce, sofrito, i use olives also. My husband favorite food.
Never knew this. Thanks. Love hearing how you do it!
That sounds good. But what's a sofrito?
Yes! Comida de pobre! So good.

One of my favorite Filipino breakfast! Thank you for making this video.

We usually cook corned beef with canned sweet corn. So good!

Benji, could you please add the link to the model of rice cooker. Thank you!
Libby’s brand has less of those “stuff” floating around in the meat.
I can’t believe it takes 45mins to cook rice in the rice cooker. I can cook Jasmine rice on the stove for 20mins no matter the quantity.
Instant pot 15 min
What brand are the wooden bowls Benji? They make the mcorned beef look even tastier 😆
Looks good. I got to put a splash of lemon for mine though. And hot sauce:)

Chopped green onions on top will make it perfect!

I always buy the corned beef hash in cans, and make it with eggs. Very good 👌.. but this makes me wanna try making from scratch.

So much flavor.
