    I was homeless for a brief period and had to live in a cheap motel but I didn't break any laws. You can be homeless but still honest

      You can break laws and still be honest ! Not all laws are moral and some being flat out unjust , immoral , and absurd. I honestly break those laws. I don't harm or cause harm to anyone or their property or do anything that puts anyone in danger

      The thing is, it’s not up to you to decide which laws are unjust, immoral or you just don’t like.
      I was homeless - without a roof to sleep under, for 8 months one time. I never broke a single law, begged or stole anything. It’s possible to be homeless and 100% law abiding.

    • @minuteskill
      @minuteskill 3 дні тому

      @@ExquisiteTouch.M.M.P what law did this guy even break? Did he simply ask for money? I may have missed it but I didn't hear anything crazy and immoral happening. Asking people for anything should just be covered by 1st amendment. I could have it wrong but I didn't hear what law was being broken.

      @@ExquisiteTouch.M.M.PWhat law did this guy break? I might have missed it but it seemed like the defendant just asked for some money from some people going to a restaurant. Insane to think that can get jail time but maybe I missed something

      I mean, I didn't lie to people, shoplift, squat or anything like that...but I did sometimes hop the turnstile to the subway when I was homeless for a year; that was technically trespass and theft of services at least. I don't feel super bad about it; I'd wait in the station asking people exiting fare control to use their transit card to swipe me into the fare zone, and oftentimes people would help you out-but if I was getting close to being late to a food bank, job interview, shelter closing time or something though, over the turnstile I went. At one point I managed to get a job, but lost it before completing my first week, because the police caught and stopped me evading the fare to get to work...an unlimited ride fare card was item #1 I was going to buy with my first paycheck, but I hadn't been paid yet. The police let me go without a ticket in the end, but the incident made me quite late to work, and employer was not impressed by that on my first week and fired me.
      I wonder how many of the people shouting "homelessness is not a defense" in comments would've preferred to keep paying me $200/m in food stamps, because 'stealing' $2.25 fares to get to interviews/jobs/shelters/etc. from the transit authority, for trains that were going to run regardless of my payment, is just oh-so morally repugnant.
      Homelessness doesn't excuse such things entirely for sure, but even if you think I should have still taken the moral high ground, surely you can see why I object to the implication that breaking any law at all while homeless means you're 'dishonest' and should lumped in with this piece of trash, who Judge Boyd very rightly sends to jail. Oversimplifications like this are why it's so incredibly stigmatized, making it _even harder_ to escape!
