    Female rc pilot, Abby, solo flies the e-flite Valiant, an electric RC airplane, at a full scale airport (with permission of course). The E-flite Valiant 1.3 BNF rc smart plane is an awesome intermediate plane that is capable of flying fast and sporty. It can also fly slow and docile for beginners. With SAFE and AS3X technology, with a Spektrum setup (linked below) you can program to turn the safety features on and off to help prevent a crash. Almost like an anti crash switch! In the video we demonstrate how this works! So cool!

    Great job Abby! Just wait until you get more experienced w/the flaps and start doing stabilized slow approaches and carrying just enough power to roundout(stop the descent)& skim the top of the grass or runway ever so lightly! Then just wait, you'll be on your way to RC bush flying soon enough, winter ski flying, flying off floats in the water.. then breaking it up with some Acro flying w/something like the Commander MPD, then bringing it home really smooth w/full flaps.. we'll probably find you guys swapping back&forth w/planes in future vids! YOU GUYS ARE AWSOME! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    Purchased a Valiant about a year ago. Awesome plane and the safe mode is a great feature. The flaps are great! They make slow easy landings a breeze and take offs 15 feet or less. The one thing about this plane is, its fast... maybe a little too fast for a beginner. I was out of the hobby for 20 years and this plane got me flying again. Only disappointment is the foam is easily dented.

    I am surprised how inexpensive the airplanes, boats and cars cost. My friends and I used to race back in mid 70’s with different models we pickup in Japan. We built our own motors and painted our bodies. We made our tires ( cut our own pattern). We even made our battery packs. I love my gas helicopter. Keep up the good job.

    The left-hand circuit or pattern is the standard for General Aviation. So don't be worried about always doing a left-hand circuit. There are very few airports that have a right-hand circuit...it just happens that one of the local airports to me has a right-hand circuit. Former Candian Forces base Rockcliff is now Rockcliff Airport (CYRO) and has a right-hand circuit.

    Nice flying, Abby! Nate, go into the flaps setting on the radio and add a little down elevator. Maybe start with 5% on takeoff flaps and 8% on landing flaps and adjust as needed. That will improve the flaps-down trim. I also prefer to slow down the deployment time for flaps to 2 or even 3 seconds.

      Depends on what you're flying but on my umx turbo timber I have the elevator set to 10% 15% and 25% with the flaps and I set it 1 sec interval

    Nate and Abby! (Ignore E. Shady = idiot )I started watching your videos and after about 5days I decided that I NEEDED to get a RC Aircraft. I wanted to get the Carbon Cub S+ but the only way I could make that happen any time soon was to get the one where you bind the transmitter to the plane, so I also bought a DX8e transmitter and I'll soon have the S2100 charger bundled with 2 batteries. I also bought Realflight 9 with the Interlink DX controller. I'll spend some hour on the simulator before I can actually touch my plane. Covid-19 has me in a different state from my home. Now just so you know. I used to burn up the sky with a Das Ugly Stik 60 back in the early 70's but I had the most experience with the crashing part of the hobby. The simulator and the Carbon Cub S+ will help me cure that problem. Thanks for the videos and Abby may I say Nate is one lucky man!

      I can see why! It is a beautiful plane, classic lines, seems very flexible as it seems to carry energy nicely, relatively light wing loading and flaps help make for better controlled descents, a real nice sport high-wing. I think I need one to compliment my Timber STOL Bushplanes!

    It's best to practice with flaps on a plane that you don't need them on. You did well with it, she looked good in the air and you handled her like a pro. There is much less risk with flaps on a nice high wing that handles well at low speeds, especially if you need to abort late and add a handful of power

    hahahaha!!! My wife is wanting to learn to fly.. She has a Champ, but it's been through the ringer.. I have my own Champ as well, but I need to replace the wing, got hit by a bad wind and put it into an unrecoverable spin... Broke the wing, but a bit of tape and hot glue.. hahahah! It flies really well still, I love it, but I want her to learn on something easy to fly and play with.
    As much as I love the look of this plane, so did my wife, I think it'll be a THIRD plane, since the first was a Champ hahaha!
    I think I'll go with the Carbon Cub, I mean, GPS and the DXe controller alone make it a valuable aircraft to play with..
    I got her a drone, which she's starting to get the hang of... Great to see Abby behind the controls again, attagirl! Just great flying.. Your landings, awesome! I've managed some beautiful landings with the Champ, but nothing as sweet as the last one that Abby did here.
    After the Carbon Cub, the Valiant might be a worthwhile purchase!
    Thanks for this great video, it looks like a real peach to fly!

    It is nice to see Abby fly. Nate you need to work her into the weekly videos more often. Abby, as a beginner myself, I relate to your concerns. I am glad you take risks to grow. I am waiting for the Carbon Cub to get back into hobby shops to get started again. I have been working on the Real Flight Sim and doing a reasonable job. My current problem is figuring out where right place is down wind to start lining up to be on the runway center line. Thanks for the flying advice you give. It is helping me figure out what to do on the sim. Hopefully, the real thing works out as well.

    • @francisconti9085
      @francisconti9085 4 роки тому

      Oh, look what Nate started! You dont NEED flaps, you can cross control and sideslip in (technique "dumps lift" in the sense that less lift is used to counter gravity, it instead pulls the plane to the side instead, while the rudder "aims" the sideways flying plane in the direction of desired travel.. but flaps let you stay coordinated(level&straight) and lower stall speed of the wing.. done right, a sideslip with full flaps is a steep descent to behold. Another slightly advanced technique(given proper balance, trim and calm to no wind) is to throttle back and pitch back safely short of stalling, plane will feel really mushy & throttle will be required to arrest the descent, and the plane will want to yaw left as you apply throttle.. best to lower nose slightly first .. flying can be slightly complicated @ first, but when it all comes together, AWSOME, NO MATTER HOW YOU DO IT😀👍!

      Toolboxes, tackle boxes, and craft/kitchen organizers are a good place to start. No doubt there are plenty of useful gadgets hiding on the shelves of your local Walmart, home improvement store, and/or sporting goods store.
      Most R/C retailers sell dedicated R/C field boxes. Perhaps because I’m an electric guy, I don’t find those boxes to be as good a fit for my needs. I’m sure the glow guys find them more useful (equipment more in line with the design of the various compartments and trays); you’re almost certain to see plenty of field boxes in use at club sites, so they must do the trick for quite a few folks. Note that they can be kind of expensive.
      Tip: It’s also good to keep in mind how you might organize/store various things so that they are easier to tote to/from your flying location. Being able to quickly grab a few containers holding all your essential field gear, rather than having to grab things one-by-one and potentially forgetting/losing stuff you’ll need at the field, makes life so much easier! 😁

The factory supplied wheels are approx 6cm in diameter and I'm finding it almost impossible to take off on the grass strip at my club. I know there is a lot of choice out there, but wondered if you could suggest some bigger, chunkier ones that I could fit to the plane to improve my chances on take off that would not be too heavy? Thank you.

    Hey I have a question I am very new to the rc plane hobby and I can fly really good with a gyro on but literally can’t fly without crashing with the gyro off. Do you guys use a gyro or am I doing something wrong

    • @marcus_c7357
      @marcus_c7357 4 роки тому

      Yes, a lot of the time the gyro will be very proactive in filtering out your mistakes, the plane that the RcSaylors are flying does have a gyro in it as well as SAFE, but flying unassisted is something you will get better at over time, good luck! Feel free to contact me with the email on my channel about page.

      Thanks for the tip! I think that part of the reason it is so hard for me without a gyro is because to plane is barely 7 inches long. I can assume that a bigger plane would be a little less affected than mine

    I have that plane, it will knife edge arrow straight, and I can really throw it around, very agile

      TheRcSaylors if you add the proper rudder to aileron mix you can do some pretty sweet side slipping and make knife edge easier, if u want I can show u what I did with mine

    Hey everyone. Newbie here with a question that I'd like to get an answer to. I recently bought the Aeroscout a while back and it came with some Heavy Duty Hi-Watt batteries AA 1.5V. Do I need to use these batteries specifically for the controller or could I use some normal Duracell AA 1.5V Alkaline ones ?

    • @chadpollman7970
      @chadpollman7970 4 роки тому +1

      Normal, name brand 1.5v AA alkaline batteries are fine. Even rechargeables ought to work nicely. I don’t recall which brand Horizon Hobby includes in their kits, but most electronics include cheap, low quality, off-brand (usually Chinese) alkalines; I don’t even bother installing those, as they tend not to perform well (power and/or endurance) and are notorious for leaking.
      Welcome to the hobby! 😁

      @@chadpollman7970 thank you so much for the quick response. Exactly what I was thinking of as well. That the batteries it came with wouldn't be some really nice ones, but off-brand and cheap. So, they save more money that way. Thanks again!
