I purchased a NAV VI in 2018 and it has been replaced six times because of gosting and freeze ups. The newest unit I received two months ago seems to work fine, for now. I simply do not trust any new navigation system from BMW. Until this unit is working perfectly in all countries i cant justify the pain of owning one again.
The Nav VI is a Garmin device rebranded as BMW. I very much doubt the new ConnectedRide Navigator is a rebranded Garmin after the Nav VI debacle.
@@jschoofs The Connected app uses Tom Tom maps. It's highly doubtful BMW would work with Tom Tom on the app and then work with Garmin on this new Navigator. So as you say, it's very doubtful that it's a Garmin.
@@paulv22 Actually TomTom is not a map provider. AFAIK both TomTom and Garmin use maps licensed to them by HERE. Since BMW partly owns HERE I strongly suspect the BMW navigation solutions to also use HERE maps. The routing behaviour exhibited by the BMW Connected app is quite different from the one found on Garmin devices so the app is certainly not a rebranded Garmin app. The ConnectedRide Navigator closely matches the BMW app behaviour so I would be very surprised if it would be a rebranded Garmin unit.
I will waiting when CarPlay is integrated…
Das ich das noch erleben darf, endlich ein Update für den Navigator! Well done!
I agree with almost of your comments .. The simplest thing would be to ask to whom didn't get trouble with the Nav VI!
Bravo BMW Motorad. You appear to have nailed the holy grail - ride your favorite route and it’s auto saved to the cloud to ride again or share. No fussing with creating cumbersome GPX mapping software. THIS ALONE is worth every penny. Viva MOTORAD!
Thank you very much for your feedback! That's exactly what it was made for. To make your tours as easy and comfortable as possible! 😉
@@bmwmotorrad for those who like to ride, they go out and buy a motorcycle. For those who really like to ride, they go out and buy a BMW motorcycle. They are built and designed from the ground up for those who really enjoy time in the saddle. My friend and I enjoy the same pace and the same distances riding through tank after tank of gas per day for 10 hours on average. He has such a great memory, and doesn’t forget a single road we’ve traveled across New England, whereas my memory isn’t nearly as good. Little does he know, as of November 1, that I will soon be recording every single one of our rides, to ride at my leisure or share with other riding buddies. BMW‘s latest advancement in GPS technology, puts the competitors to SHAME with just with this highly functional, breadcrumb feature alone. Who wants to waste any time on the slab? About maps??
About time. Phone up top is worrying but is much better than the Nav 6. Well done bmw
Sadly, this will be difficult for me to consider after my problems with the NAV VI.
NAV VI sucked! what a waste of money!
@@adv_ridertechnically wasn't a waste of money for me. After 5 years of replacements I got my money refunded
Except this is a completely different product from the ground up
Nav VI got binned in the cupboard , I got fed up trying to update it and the dealers not wanting to help.
I disconnected it plus the cradle, and now use Waze.
@@Tautulis7 If Samsung made three different motorcycles and none of them worked very well, do you think the public would embrace a fourth redesign? BMW should stick to making motor vehicles and leave the NAV systems to the open market.
Will you be giving all of us who bought the previous Nav V1 a heavy discount on the new one due to the endless failures and breakdowns?
Will be a brave person who guinea pigs this device following all the issues with the Nav VI (I am on my 4th replacement). Hope you guys have sorted out all the issues. Perhaps a video showing what has been done on this device to fix the nav VI issues might be useful to restore some trust.
instead of this marketing chat
Absolutely right. I had my NAV VI replaced 3 times, after it couldn’t be started anymore. A lot of trust is burned here too.
Does it have a monthly cost
Well done and absolutely over due. I’m a little burnt here. I bought the BMW Navigator V and VI and they are both an absolute let down. I had so much trouble on the road, it’s unbelievable. I ended up buying the BMW cradle for my iPhone using the Connect app. What is finally a great solution. Not sold yet to buy this one. To much suffering and a lot of money wasted.
Could be interesting if BMW offers a special deal for Nav 6 users who want to upgrade !!??
you dont make money by offering discounts.
@@MotoCoeyou're clearly not in marketing
@@mikehenry7878 no, my conscience is clear.
The special deal is buy a new bike =]
Ha! Not a chance.
very good from bmw.
I was hoping it would give me Apple car play for my K1600 2016 like Honda already has. 😞
I bought a BMW Connectedride Navigator and I can point out a couple of shortcomings... the map background is cut off by field forest roads and some small asphalt roads and you can't turn off the automatic recalculation of routes
Never had an issue with my Nav V, skipped the Nav VI but this one sounds interesting. 🤔
It absolutely is and makes your tours as comfortable as possible!
Loved my Zumo with the 3D printed adapter.
I ordered my Zumo XT2, then will order 3dam adapter too.
Nice reviews about this device.. ✌️
@@rodolfowebber55 Google for "Garmin Zumo XT2 to BMW NAV V/VI Locking Base Adapter"; that's the adapter I use. Works well.
@@rodolfowebber55 The XT2 hardware is nice, the Garmin Thread route prep app is horrible. I've disconnected my XT2 from Tread and still use Basecamp and Michelin maps (I'm a European) to create routes and transfer them to the XT2 using a microSD cars. Missing: unfortunately there is no MultiController wheel integration with the XT2.
@@jschoofs multicontroller for GPS unit is overrated. Once moved to XT2, never felt any need to change something while i ride.
@@DmitryNedbaylo It is very useful for zooming the map in and out without having to fiddle with small buttons on a flakey touchscreen. So no, it is not overrated.
Are the maps better than the connected app? Because on the app, they are horrible !
Interesting. If my Nav5 falls apart, this one will be the replacement.
very good
So with this new connectedride navigator we connect our phone and rider and passenger headsets too, what around the TFT that we use to connect too ?
@bmwmotorrad what is the display resolution of this device? I only found the 800 nits statement and the display size…
How do we get the “Accessories” option shown at 2:00 in the connectivity menu. Seems it is the only way to connect the smartglasses to the navigator but it is not showing for me. Only smartphone and helmets are showing as options. Any tips
I sincerely hope this is now finally a BMW GPS device that is worth the money. I had 4 nav V and nav VI in the last 4 years (costing over 800 eur over here), with not one lasting more than 12 months before it showed the famous ghost screen syndrome. These nav's were basically very expensive rubbish. I than swapped to the cradle which as such worked well as GPS, except that the wireless charging made my phone (hence GPS) automatically shutting down being overheated when outside temps went over 25°C. Next to the fact that the phone as such was not secured in the cradle. I finally moved to the Zumo XT with the adapter piece to fit in the BMW nav holder, and that works very well. I will try out this new ConnectedRide Navigator and am very curious indeed if it will be something worth carrying the BMW logo (and price).
Hi Dirk, thank you for your feedback! As we have developed a new product with the latest technological standards, we can assure you that it is worth it. It is important to us to make your tours as comfortable as possible. And that's exactly what it does! 😉
Anywhere in the world!! So is it ok for Japan? and you program it using Basecamp? How do you plans a route? You told us nothing really.
Considering the Screen on the 2021 RS already connects to the BMW ride app, it links (when it wants to), to my mobile for calls and music whats the benefit from moving from a (working) Nav 6? What about planning? Still use basecamp? What about performance? How quick is it to boot up and plan a route? Less marketing and more info please.
posted link to web site requires AWS login, can't access
ok... now that but add apple carplay/android auto integration. also saw smart glasses integration. neat!
Just use the connected ride display with your phone. At least that way you can actually use any other navigation app like waze and not rely on the integrated maps
Looks like this will be great, how can i also use it on my non BMW motorcycles?
Amazing ❤
I received the ConnectedRide Navigator, configured it, downloaded the Europe maps, but unfortunately there's currently not much testing to be done besides putting in an address and drive from A to B. I imported one of my created routes but unfortunately when trying to start the imported route, I receive a message saying that the system currently is not able to run routes with waypoints. I assume I have to wait for the rumoured big update early November? One thing I did notice when riding an A to B route is that I am missing usefull data on the screen like the distance to the next gas station on the route (as does Tomtom and the Zumo XT). I am anxiously awaiting that update to do some real testing (hopefully) as not much is to be done at the moment.
Hi Dirk,
thanks for your feedback! We are still improving the ConnectedRide Navigator to make it a very useful device and to make your tour as comfortable as possible. Therefore, we are planning a big update, as you have already mentioned. Then it will also be possible to import gpx files from other navis into the ConnectedRide Navigator.
Best regards,
Your BMW Motorrad Team
Yes but how on earth do you connect it and smart phone to tft?
When is this available? It's not on the Motorrad site in the UK.
If I have two bikes with nav prep, can share the navigator between bikes?
Wow, because it is wider, which is a good thing, it’s now off center in the cradle.
"You know what I'm thinking?"... I think I woke up and it's 2015 again 😄
Conntected? Fire marketing, hopefully they pay more attention when making the motorcycles
@BMW Motorrad : So it won’t work on my 2023 R 1250 RT?
We’ve got our new BMW connected ride navigator and we are so excited and we aren’t even trying to hide it.
We love our bmw Garmin nav6 but this one take it to the next level.
Thank you BMW for always innovating and giving your customer better products and better options.
We can’t wait for our next long ride to test out the new CRN🤗🤗🤗🤗🤍💙
You seem one of the few who are thrilled with it. Pleas elaborate. How does it take it "to the next level" from the Nav 6.
I am waiting for my savings to add up to buy one of these 🤩
Hey BMW! I have the new navigator a few days, and I can clearly hear that sound quality is poor and flat compared to direct phone connection with cardo pack talk bold unit equipped with JBL. There is no difference if you are using iOS (iPhone 11) or Android device (S23 Ultra) I was testing as well JBL BT speaker and Marshall one and each time I can hear poor / flat sound when data is transferred thru new navigator. I'm wondering if you can confirm it. The thing is you can hear the voice commands pretty OK but if you want to use advantage of listening the music and you have good quality speakers in your helmet like JBL the sound is so flat and poor that the entire joy of it is killed. I'm wondering if it's a codec issue and may be improved by new updates or sound processing on hardware level which on premium devices like this should never happen. Would like to get your feedback about it. Thanks!
Same in my case. Sound is flat and monophonic. Tested on my Interphone intercom and two different sets of wireless buds. I've created a support ticket lat week. No response yet.
@ladzior thanks for conformation, yes we have to push to have it fixed. Its not right to get flat sound in such device.
Is it based on the Garmin Zumo XT2? Is it based in anything Garmin?
Are there radar and autovelox notifications ans warnings?
So does it function standalone without being connected to the internet? Does it have DAB radio. Does it support Apple Carplay and such. Do we get lifetime map updates? For a reltail price just shy of 700,- Euro's I have higher expectations then just a navigation device.
Hello, thank you for your interest in the BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Navigator and your questions. We understand your expectations of our navigation system. The BMW Motorrad Connected Ride Navigator allows you to control almost all smartphone functions and media applications, including services such as Spotify. It doesn't have DAB radio. You also have the option of exporting routes from various navigation apps such as Apple Carplay as .gpx files and then importing them via the ConnectedRide app. In terms of internet connection, you can get up-to-date traffic information either via a Wi-Fi hotspot via your smartphone or via a self-installed SIM card. This gives you access to real-time traffic information and other online-based features. www.bmw-motorrad.com/en/shorturls/connectedride-navigator.html
Exactly what I’ve been asking for, as long as the quality is far superior to that of the Nav vi. Selling products knowing full well they are not suitable for the application (motorcycle vibrations broke the soldering board connections on the Nav vi) damages the seller’s reputation. Was it due to the minimum order Garmin required that BMW had to keep selling them to get rid of stock (considering most units did last longer than 12 months thus beyond the warranty period), or was there another reason sales weren’t cancelled until the issue was resolved (which would have been the ethical thing to do)?
Rubbish, my Nav6 is 6 years old now and still going strong with no issues at all, just completed a 4178mile tour of Europe and it worked flawlessly the entire trip, so not all units failed. In the EU/UK the Nav6 has a minimum 2 year warranty.
@@mattmattstravels9429 Crap, the Nav 6 is garbage I had mine replaced 4 times in less than 3 years. In the end I sent the last one to Adrian at GPS Station in Germany for a 200 euro fix. That worked and the guy is inundated with work repairing the Nav 6. There are hundreds if not thousands of reported cases of Nav 6 failures.
@@mattmattstravels9429 Consider yourself fortunate. You and I together do not less fingers and toes combined than the number of Nav VI s we have sent back for customers do to the Ghosting problem alone
Is there a manual for the system that can be downloaded? The QR code takes me to a page with downloads, but the Connectedride Navigator is not there.
Great question.
The Nav 6 was incredibly unreliable. I had three ! This is BMW's answer and it looks great.
I bought one but I was a little disappointed, because when I turn off the bike the gps doesn't turn off, and you can't make tracks for points like bmw navigator 6 . Since I think it's a software issue, I hope BMW fix this quickly..
Probably it fits in the GS1300... So the Navigator VI must fit also
Yes, it has the same mounting points.
I Iike to plan my routes with a large number of waypoints on the computer (Basecamp) before heading off. Will this new device support such functionality? Will it still use Garmin software and maps? Thanks
it works. I use kurviger on my side, and with your bmx account you can laod the .gpx files with the waypoints
I like to basically be lost getting from point a to point b..navigation is just there to tell me how far the gas station is and the distance that right turn added or took off along with the time to get there..each to there own tho enjoy your pre determined dots of interest on your ride
By the way the best beer and hamburger you can't finde unless your lost
Looks good I’ll swap you my nav6 for it
Can you input postcodes? Something the Nav Vi cannot do. Also does it fix the current cradle…2017 GS LC?

so do you have to pay extra for ghosting this time? ;-)
I’m having a problem with the Posted Speed Signs on the TFT showing in Kilometers and the speed in MPH. I’m in USA. I understand it’s due to the connected ride app not communicating properly. But I do not see a settings option. I have Miles selected on the app. Any ideas??

We want a Disconnected Ride model.
It already has that: you can download the maps for offline use. And you don't need a smartphone connection either for navigation.
@@jschoofs Now define "download the maps" if you're riding your adventure bike off-road. BMW is not Garmin or TomTom.

@@christophemartin9189 Why would you wire your phone to a screen the size of your phone, if not smaller? What does that bring on a motorcycle?
I am very sorry to read, that android auto and apple car play are not supported. I would have bought a robust device with handlebar control immediately!! But like this, sorry. GPX import is just not the same as CarPlay. Not even close. Seems I am stuck with my Zumo XT 😢
having the 21 R1250RT with the big screen and the Connected app, I would see no reason to have to purchase another piece of expensive kit when the onboard kit works OK. I am hoping for a firmware update that allows better visibility of the route, whereas now you cannot see the route markers. Apple car play would be great. Frankly, I believe I would first consider a Garmin if I was going to spend this much money to have the benefit of someone who has been doing this so much longer and better. The OEM navigation on my RT could have easily been so much better.
Being able to read the street names would be a great start, along w/ displaying the currently traveled road name.
The navigation on my new RT is dogshit. The app sucks. The map sucks. I can’t believe they didn’t just use CarPlay.
@@jasoncrandall Precisely what is keeping me from buying an RT. What were they thinking.
@@ronleon62 the system works great….. except for the navigation. I rarely use the navigation so it’s ok but still pisses me off
I also have the 21 R1250RT and fully agree with you comment. I can't read it, it's glitchy so rather than fix it, we are asked to lay down a bunch of money to essentially override it????
When I want to start a route, I get the following message: Routes wich include points are currently not available.
Or "Track" routes are currently not available.
Can I only use the system if I enter a destination on the system itself?
I can also upload a gpx file in the connected app, but when I use those files I get these messages. I don't get that on the TFT screen.
BMW F750GS 2023
Hi, I assume that you already have a device. Can you confirme that riding tracks is not possible at this time? And by the way is that Garmin or tomTom in the backround? Thanks in advance.
But does it still send you along the most illogical routes? I still use my Rokform mount so I can use google maps because my nav is stupid🤦🏽♂️
Just want some Carplay thing...
Will this fit my 2017 S1000XR Gen 1 ? I currently have a Nav VI, so the bike came prepped for the Nav VI and has the Wonderwheel, but I'm not clear about compatibility from the details I find online. Any guidance appreciated 🙂
Yes it will
Yes, he said that in the video. Any BMW after 2014 with the factory Nav prep cradle.
nice! For RTT real time traffic, is bluetooth to my smartphone with bmw app sufficient (as most other navs)? Or does it need a simcard or a wlan hotspot (that would be a big disadvantage for me - extra costs or overheated smartphone) ?
It's a modified Zumo XT. It pairs over Bluetooth to a Garmin app on your phone for RTT.
@@Pyrrho_ wrong
@@gnmurray5955 What model then? Same 5.5" 800 nit screen, same form factor with a different frame. Development time would line up with when the XT was initially available. They pick a board from one model, maybe a display from another, wrap it in a frame to the vendor's specs, and then work with them to customize the software.
@@Pyrrho_on the bmw website, they say that its an "own development", whatever that means 🤷♂️
Can you plan a route on the computer and have it automatically available on the navigator?
Thank you for your question. It is possible to plan an individual route on any device (BMW app, PC browser, etc.), export it as a .gpx file and import it via the ConnectedRide app. This way you can use the saved routes on your navigator.
Still no update to fix the issue of not supporting imported routes with waypoints nor the problem of the device not really switching off when being switched off resulting in an empty battery the next day. Very disappointing so the navigator went back to the dealer who refunded the money. I'll stick to my Zumo XT.

@bmwmotorrad - Does it work with the 2019 R1250RT (without the TFT)?
Almost all BMW Motorrad models from model year 2014 with multicontroller and optional equipment preparation navigation device can use the ConnectedRide Navigator! 🙌
I don’t understand why companies don’t cut there gps R&D to save money. Everyone has a smartphone now. I plan my route on my smartphone then I just plug in to power and go. I don’t have to wait on up loads or buy another peace of kit. The gps on my phone is amazing. It just needs wireless apple car play and I’d be set.
I keep my phone in my pocket. Try calling for help after a wreck, you're hurt and can't get to your bike 30 feet away or the phone is damaged. At least if it's in my pocket, I gave a chance.
Does this have to be permanently connected to cellular to use navigation? Or can I use the device to navigate WITHOUT cellular connection? So, can I use offline maps?
Hi there, thank you for contacting us. A permanent requirement is an online data connection via WLAN or a SIM card. I don't understand how this new expensive, navigation-dedicated device is somehow better than my Samsung phone sitting in BMW's connected cradle on my GSA. I paid good money to BMW for that cradle and I love the way that it turns my phone into a satnav for my bike, and charges my phone (slowly) whilst I ride. Why would I want an old-fashioned dedicated satnav device? No one buys them these days. Our phones are better for navigation and much more multi-function, and we always have them with us when we get on our bikes!
Sadly I have to disagree, I prefer the dedicated Navi unit

Hey Gordon! The genaral launch of the BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Navigator was November 1st. For the availability in your market please contact your local dealer, which you can find here: www.bmw-motorrad.com/dealer. 🙂
I like the Connected ride navigator but there are 3 software issues with the unit which are REALLY annoying…..
1. Unless you remove the unit from the bike when finish your ride and manually switch it off, then the unit will have a dead battery when you next come back to the bike.
2. The unit automatically recalculates imported routes or tracks - making nonsense of your carefully pre planned route.
3. If you are following a route and then stop for a break - when you return to the bike the route doesn’t re-appear. This means that you have to create a new route after every coffee stop!
Hey there! Thank you very much for your detailed feedback. We always really appreciate input from our community. If you have any urgent issues, please feel free to contact our colleagues at ConnectedRide: connectedride@bmw.com. 🙌
what is the price are is it released in the uk?
You can find all necessary information via the following link: www.bmw-motorrad.com/connectedride-navigator. The ConnectedRide Navigator will be available from November 2023.
Is it a must to be connected to the phone to use the data for navigation or its using a Satellite Connection?
It needs connection to a positioning satellite system such as GPS and/or Galileo. Optional: a connection to a GSM network can augment the position data and offer additional, non-navigation services but this is optional, not mandatory.
@@jschoofs Thanks for your reply. I guess it’s a better choice than Garmin
@@NomadOnGS There are many factors you need to take into account. I have recently bought an XT2 and toured 2 weeks with it in Spain. The Garmin XT2 hardware is quite good but the built-in software has not evolved a lot when compared with older Garmin devices. An example: you still cannot indicate whether a route should be allowed to go via highways or not without going into the device level navigation settings. I think this setting should be a route level setting and not a device level setting. It is also still very dumb at getting you back on a preprogrammed route whenever you have drifted away from that route. The BMW Connected app is much better on that level. Also the new Garmin route development solution i.e. the Tread app and the Garmin cloud is currently to be avoided at all cost. What you often see is that a route developed using the app is modified after transferring it to the XT2. To me that is a cardinal sin: I want to be in absolute control over what roads to take in a preprogrammed route and under no circumstances I want the XT2 to modify the route that I have developed! Currently I create my routes using paper maps and Basecamp and I transfer them to the XT2 using a microSD card.
Also: I really would like to be able to use my BMW’s Multicontroller with my XT2: when navigating in a city for example being able to zoom the map in and out while riding and keeping your hands on the bars can help a lot in keeping situational awareness when avoiding city traffic jams and such. The Garmin devices do not support this and zooming using the touchscreen doesn’t work very well and I also find it unsafe to do while riding.
Hello, thank you for your question. The BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Navigator has to be connected with the BMW Motorrad Cloud. More information can be found on our website: www.bmw-motorrad.com/en/shorturls/connectedride-navigator.html
Is it based on Zumo XT or XT2?
It's based on TomTom from what I know but could be wrong
Compatible Carplay ? Ça serait bien
Basically, it is possible to export routes from any navigation app as a .gpx file and then import them via the ConnectedRide app. This way you can use Apple Carplay's saved routes on your navigator.
