Erotica album is a masterpiece, a real diamond but trap in deep sea below. No singer are dare to explore about sex but Madonna does in her own way and express through this album. During 90's everybody was shock including media and turn down this idea. As truly masterpiece this album survive and fit any era.

It's just a pity it took everybody 10 years to realise just what a great piece of work the album is. I think it was that jump from pop music to club music and a more mature sound in general. ♥️♥️

I know I'm late to the party on this comment but, wasn't Andre Betts not some way involved in Justify my Love? I seems like some people don't always get credit in the notes. Like Tony Shinkin who was involved in the production of most the tracks on Erotica. He was given the choice to have a producer credit and he selected Deeper and Deeper because he knew it was going to be a single and he thought it was a big pop song and unlike the rest of the album it sounded most like old skool pop Madonna. ❤️❤️🌈🌈

It's not fair that people can't understand the real meaning of this album,it's so beyond sex,it's about sex too but has so many important back meanings about friendship, predudice, angry, right humans, aids,so many issues ahead of his time

The acid jazz touches she revisits in Secret Garden on the same album. I don’t think she’s been as sexual since Erotica. That album, the book, and the Body of Evidence movie I think she got it all out of her system. The public was not having her at this point in general. Her most misunderstood work and it’s so funny.

A punk alternative kid firmly in that scene and lifestyle - the Erotica album gave me a new perspective on Madonna and I've been a dedicated fan since. An artist of that caliber, of superstar stature didn't have to nor would have publish a book like SEX - She did, it was ballsy...and i admire her for that. Once again she changed musical direction, resulting in a masterpiece of an album. Less than half the album has sexual innuendo tracks, maybe more than just innuendo on this track. The trifecta of book, album and movie, Body of Evidence, along with the banned Erotica video and intensely negative press played a part in not allowing the album to be heard and sell like every album of hers before it. I remember asking DJs in underground clubs to play erotica - it took a lot of pleading sometimes but that song would always pack a dance floor. Favorite tracks - Erotica, Deeper and Deeper, Thief of Hearts and Bad Girl.I suggestion watching the Bad Girl, Deeper and Deeper, Rain and the uncensored Erotic video for visuals that compliment the album.

@@bridgethegapreactions I think a lot of people miss the loss aspect of this album. A sharp contrast to the sex and fun. The Girlie Show tour is a must watch as it was around this time.
Secret Garden is also one of my favorites. All the ones you mentioned are wonderful. You should eventually hear some of her maxi singles. Erotica especially from around this time. Even if you start with a mix or two. Deeper and Deeper has some amazing mixes also. I am not a fan of remixes usually but I make an exception for her, Deee-Lite, and original 80s and some 90s remixes.

This album is interesting because aside from a few tracks, the majority of songs are not explicit in nature. If anything, the songs are about love and heartbreak. What is hilarious is if you just read the song titles, the album sounds like it will be filthy. Who would guess subject matter for "Why's it so Hard" from the title alone lol?

@5:03 "Aren't you glad we came" ("Oh my God, Oh my God")
@5:13 "I think it's beginning to rain" ("So good").
I'm going to add Johnny's spoken words to my edited version of this song. Just perfect.
In my opinion, no, she's not done anything with this combination of cleverness, humor, sexually suggestiveness since. "Holy Water" and "S.E.X" from Rebel Heart album (2015) are male ED compared to Life.

My favorite Madonna album. I love the album "deep cuts" such as this one, Secret Garden, Why's it so Hard. I love the artwork on the album, the dark blues, the foldout lyric page (which was big for the time). I used to pour over the lyrics, what studio the song was recorded in, who wrote the songs, etc. Such an overlooked and misunderstood album in her catalog. Almost a "forgotten" album due to all the controversy during this period. "This Used to be my Playground" is yet another forgotten song from around the same or near this period...

The string melody on this chorus is virtually identical to the following year's Celine Dion song "Everybody's Talkin' My Baby Down". I don't know if anyone else can hear it, but that part of Celine's song always reminded me of this. Probably both came from a common source.

It was one of her best albums….. basic with a thirst, spices, fresh…music, lyrics, fashion, visual, her life all the planets were aligned for Madonna…. the song was great…. It was sexual, I got what it was about just with the opening line….. and linger licking good….ummmhhhh…. One my favorite songs.

You pay attention way too more in the lyric content BUT i highly recommend to listen the instrumental version, for me is such a ride: the piano, the saxo, the nights ambience?! and almost an urban touch, jazzy too ... and that feel of nostalgic and possibly lost ... thd quality of the production and detail is superb here 🧏🏻‍♂️

Madonna was never an outstanding vocalist like Whitney or Mariah, but she had a very captivating voice and well produced songs that matched her personality. That's why she was one of the biggest 80s/90s icons. On the Erotica album she was pretty sexual - especially with "Justify my love'"
