This is so great! Thank you Ms. India Hale for sharing your obvious talent with us. I know that the piece is very difficult for most people but you have obviously mastered it! I salute you and your teachers.
Wow... I only started playing a little over a year ago and I am in my 40's. When I attempt to play this my keyboard might as well laugh at me and even though I love this piece of music so much, I just can't come close to playing it. You seem to be a natural. Well done!
I have been playing for just a little over nine or so years now, I'm 13, so probably not the best for this advice, but you should really keep trying ! I couldn't play Maple Leaf Rag for four years, now, it's my favourite Rag to play ( minus possibly The Entertainer ), and I love it ! As long as you put in effort consistently and try to keep on practising, it'll come to you :).
@@atadbitahistory9660 Great advice! I have been practicing and slow but surely getting there. I can't believe you started playing so young, but that means great things are ahead of you! Thanks for the motivation!!
Great work! I rarely see young pianists play this tune with anything even resembling command of the instrument! Not to mention good tempo, that's something most people starting into ragtime completely miss the point on!
India plays well, plays how Joplin intended it to sound, and brightened my day. I would urge ( I used to play this also... my parents have an 1893 Kimball piano) India to find an old piano like what we had, and play the same piece on an instrument Scott himself could possibly have played in his lifetime. Sure Steinways and classical pianos sound great, for classical pieces like Rachmaninoff, but Joplin on a period instrument is magical!
Nice performance! I played as well in the past and actually I think it’s a good start if you want to play stride piano or jazz. I have a little suggestion for you: try to use less paddles in some measures.
I thought I noticed a little tempo increase after the first measure or so, and the B and C themes were omitted. Minor complaints. Good performance. Love your smile.
Do you think so? I thought it was quite a march tempo as marked... slow and steady... I prefer it faster personally, although that wouldn't be authentic of course!
@@HarryNowakowskiFox Everybody today seems to prefer it faster than march tempo, or frantic, as we have here. The leisurely pace of a proper MLR is rich - and a little humorous. It grows on you.
I’ve never, EVER seen a comment thread in agreement on the tempo of this song lol. Just a few comments up is someone saying it’s great. It’s a great tune sped up or slowed down.
@@scottydu81 In case you haven't noticed, UA-cam is Ground Zero for hyperbolic gushing. For every performance of every type you will find a comment that it's the "absolute best." (I suspect mothers.) Sure it's a nice tune at various tempos. My complaint is that it's usually viewed as a race to the end. March-tempo versions are few and far between.
@@jamesmcinnis208 And MY complaint is that there is always some wine glass fart sniffer who obviously knows the song better than you and will spare no words explaining just how wrong you are in your opinions. Hyperbolic gushing is what *you* are doing, my pretentious little man. Some girl on youtube is playing a piano song and here you are snapping your fingers angrily telling her to “do it right”. Listen, Alain, I’m not sure if anyone in your bubble has ever had the balls to tell you this but you do not know everything. I’m going to listen to this playback at 1.25 speed now because of you. It will probably slap, too.

Absolutely brilliant, India. I am so jealous. I wish I could play like you. Thank you for the great big smile on my face!! 😄👍👏👏👏👏

Start attempting to learn it early! it will be much easier to get the rhythm down later on, even if you may struggle with it now 👍

Man it has been almost a year since i started learning this piece but i finally got it now. So you just got to take ur time and practice hard
That was pretty much perfect. Most people play it much too fast. This was the ideal speed so you can appreciate the intricacies of the piece.
Still a bit too fast for me, but very good all the same.
@@simongleaden2864 anymore slower nd it gets boring 😅😂 this music is supposed to make you wanna dance

Joplin said that ragtime must be played slow.

nicely done .. thank you for performing it ..
That's a very fine rendition; I'm struggling terribly!! Well done!
DON’T play it as fast as this. On the music is written “Not too fast”!!!
Nice one! Thank you fpr posting - it made my day!

played very nicely. a bit on the slow side but not too slow i like that i could here every note and it was always exactly on beat.
wasn't slow ragtime should never be played fast, it was a good tempo

You would usually hear the Maple Leaf Rag being played on an old out-of-tune upright. Seems strange to hear it on a grand

I like her version, people can play songs as fast or slow as they want… 😊 don’t you think?!

Technically very good , just a bit fast for me
Is she sleeping? A bit strange attitude to a ragtime, as well as different tempo between parts.
Wrong tempo. Raced through. Are you trying to impress people by how fast you can play it? Because you're certainly not playing it right.
