"Maple Leaf Rag" is the epitome of "Rag Time" and Tuba Skinny plays a wonderful rendition of "Maple Leaf Rag". I love those two ladies who have stuck with "tuba Skinny" all these years.
In this crazy time, it's so hopeful to watch seven people at the top of their art working in perfect harmony to make something absolutely exceptional and beautiful. Tears of joy... Bless you...
Thank God for UA-cam! or I would never have seen or heard Tuba Skinny. Wish my Dad was still here to have a listen. He loved this music and got me loving it, too!
Music has no age and that's what's wonderful. I marvel at music that is over 115 years old as well as music composed yesterday. A life without music is hell. Thanks, thanks to Tuba Skinny who makes me find my soul of child at more than seventy four years.
I am sitting at seventy-three years of age. Had wonderful parents that loved a large assortment of music. It is so great to have groups like this to listen to when so many radio stations have their little set of songs that they play over and over and is nothing more than top ten tunes from whatever persuasion they choose. To much wonderful music to listen to to be stuck on "gits" only stations.
This is sooooo it! They totally capture the spirit of Dixieland and rag!!! The clarinet player, the trumpet, well everyone there is giving it that special feel I love...this is pure candy to my old ears...Thank You very much for sharing all those great clips of Tuba Skinny, a band I didn't know of until recently! Cheers!
@@demef758 I see,..There's a nuance.. I always confuse "Dixieland" "Rag time" and "N.O.Jazz"...This music is before my time (I'm only 65) but I love it!
I have just recently discovered Tuba Skinny and I can't get enough of them. Tell Shaye if she is not married, here I am. But one thing I will never understand is how people can walk by completely oblivious to this outstanding music. I guess there are those who are so wrapped up in the daily little messes they call their lives, they haven't the time to appreciate those things that make life so wonderful. I feel pity for them and for those soulless 75 who voted thumbs down.
For someone who tries to present themselves as enthusiastic about art and open-hearted, it's more than unwise to assume that other people, whose worries and struggles you don't know, live a bad life just because they dare to walk past a band you happen to like. You need to learn that there are people who think differently from you and that this is completely acceptable. You are trying to portray yourself as a positive person, but in reality, you don't seem any better because you try to impose your opinion on others. This is very unfortunate because you seem to have a fine sense of art, but at least with me, you lose all respect with your negativity.
I copied and pasted this message because it reflects my feelings exactly. My Dad was born in New Orleans area in 1891 but moved into Texas soon after. Only in New Orleans. Hound dog is probably a body guard. Drummer is tired of holding drum, so she sits on it. No body is following sheet music. Truly odd combinations of instruments, but they always blend. You gotta love the south !
I have to say, Shaye's playing, especially on her solos, is a study in musical interpretation and I mean feeling, timing and emphasis. She is a visual poem.
Love it, this was my Grandma'sfavorite song to play on the piano. She was still tickling the impression on this one when she passed away at the age of 92. God Bless.
One of the many impressive features of the band is how precisely they hold the tempo that Shaye sets at the start of the number. I have yet to hear a number where the band sped up or slowed it down. If you've ever dabbled in a band of any kind, you understand how difficult it is!
My son is studying at a UK conservatoire and I've heard a lot of very talented musicians ranging from teenagers to world class musicians and the one thing that really makes top notch musicians stand out is their timing. Sadly, I'm not a great musician but I know one when I hear one.
@@washingtongeraldodeoliveir8338 I make no claims whatsoever about being a music authority, but one thing I've noticed over my life is that even the best bands will often speed up a number as the song progresses. I've just played this again (in September 2022) after listening to more up-to-date TS videos for the past six months or so, and I can honestly say it is absolutely wonderful. The intonation, and the togetherness of the band are spot on, and it seems to me that in the seven years since this video was made they have remained constantly superb in what they do. It is no wonder that we are all still listening to them more than ten years after they were founded. If the band is reading this, I have one thing to say to you all: Keep up the good work.

Its a traditional ragtime orchestra with a guitar. Not that weird..
Not such an odd combination of instruments for Dixie Land Jazz down in the French Quarter but you're right on about that hound dog.
