It is stunning. I love the direction Jaguar has been going lately. Their cars really have a personality and style unique to the brand. This car looks so unconventional, especially the rear end.
I had a chance to take one (V8) on a unleashed drive today. My god, this car is everything the reviewer says and more. The car in dynamic mode is loud, crude, and hella fun!! I never in my life would have even looked at a Jaguar... now I want one!!
I saw a review of this on Evo's channel, they tested the available engine models of this and they all agreed that the V6 was the one to go for over the V8. Handled better, and drove smoother. ( a little remeniscent of the Etype which was favoured more for its earlier v6 engines over its v12 later models )
It's astonishing. It really is... astonishing. When I heard that the top range model of this F-type Jag costs around 90.000 pound, I thought those numbers were overestimated, but after seeing this review and just how wonderful this car looks and what's under the bonnet (forget the comparison to the 911) as well the features it has, I think this car is truly brilliant, worth the money it costs and deserves the title to be the successor of the great E-type Jag.
I was in London the other day & there was a bloke in a black F-Type pulling out of a road in Park Lane & as he drove onto the main road, my God!! The noise, it sounded biblical! An amazing sound :-D Really woke me up as he properly cained it. A good moment.
This is one Jag that gives Aston Martin a run for its money when it comes to a beauty contest. And for those of you griping for more hp, I'm willing to bet, the execs are contemplating an R performance version.
I couldn't agree more; definitely a (very) optimistic claim. I have no doubt that the F-type is a grand car, but the 911 Turbo (especially 997.2) is really quite an elite car in terms of all measures of performance!
I talked with a Jaguar representitive at a Moto Expo car show in London. He said that only Indian thing is the money. TATA were like "here's the money, now go off and show what you can do with it." And this is the result - the F-Type. Jaguar is here to stay as quint-essential British car.
Looks like Jag has done a good job here, pushing all out performance with their productions. Passenger seat looks little isolated and lonely looking at the arch coming from dash towards gear and arm rest area, apart from that neat interior neat and aggressive exterior design, looks like it has good handling and performance of the engine sits very well with the car. Thumbs up in all for sure!
He means in-gear accleration,which the f-type is as quick as the 911 turbo, and the f-type is slower to 60 is due to the lack of grip as it is rear wheel drive instead of 4 wheel drive
Bro been telling folks the same thing I think the V8S goes head to head with the Carrera Jaguar say they releasing a quicker one an F-Type R to match the Turbos I suppose!
There is more to it than that if you're talking about track performance. That's what I'm referring to. For whatever reasons, the Jag cannot hang with even the base 911 on the track. See Tiff's track battle video.
I think the Z06 is the one. It's got plenty of character, performance, it looks and sounds great...but its rear suspension set-up was invented by Obadiah Elliot of London in 1804. Come on guys, get with the project!
He's sort of right. He just failed to mention that it's the 997 Turbo that does it in 4.2 sec. So I guess the F type would have been more relevant 6 years ago on that front. Still a great car i think. Hat tip to Jaguar

Well everyone has their way of thinking ;) If you have noticed, JLR was going through big losses before going in the hands of TATA and now its doing amazing. Last 2 years, the company has earned tremendous profits. So I assume TATA engineers too had a good role and support in that. I belong from Dubai :D the company is doing great here too.

Actually it's owned by Tata but is still built in the same factory by the same people in England. The owner of Tata loved Jaguars as a kid and bought them as his trophy company. All he does is give them money for research. That's why they are doing so well.

To be honest Steve has been very positive driving different Porsche and other sports cars. And the kinda British cars Steve drives are the top on the line. So no surprise if he is positive to those cars. (I'm not British)
Guys, this car is not to be compared with super sports cars, it should be compared with super-sport convertible muscle sedans like CLK and 6 series Convertible wise. It can never go faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo and it's not supposed to. It's for your weekend enjoying cruising through long roads.

This car is different-world fast to the Turbo S." - Harris on GT2 RS, which, remember, is a lot slower (by about as much as 0,5 s) to 60 than a Turbo S. I therefore support Steve's opinion. One needs to understand that 0-60 is not everything.
I drove the vehicle, the first in North America at Circuit of the Americas. The F-Type is everything they say it is. Go drive this little beast then comment.
I can't deny its beautiful, but it bears a striking (while updated of couse) resemblance to the Maserati GranSport Spyder from the mid 2000's. No matter, they're both beautiful anyway
Yes JLR is owned by India now, TATA , one of the biggest company in terms of revenue the world. but when tata bought the company, they didn't really change the staff and workers of the company. Indian and british engineers have worked together to make this car. And its not unfortunate cause the company is doing great in the world market.
Jags are very dependable. The Jags that I have owned (and still do) had no serious problems at all. My Tahoe (A GM product) has cost me a fortune in repair costs. Same with the three Cadillac STS' that I owned. I was a GM customer for years but they were too problematic. I drove a Jag and fell in love with it and never looked back. I still like GM but I can't afford the maintenance.
True, but Jag are selling it for £80,000 which is 911 carreera money and Jaguar say they will release a F-Type R to match the likes of the Turbos later on. Hope to see which 1 will really be quick!!
I could be wrong but i think in that test that was just the F Type V6 and not the top of the range V8 Supercharged version reviewed here. I agree the Turbo would be quicker than this but for the price of a Turbo you could by this and a brand new M3! and at the end of the day this car will rarely see the track
There is reason why minor changes of exterior design in Porsche department are used, its the true tradition of design that they are trying to keep. However as mentioned here, justification of price does matter, as it is all the greatest engineering and technology involved in the heart of the car it self, engine dynamics and more for the car to perform, Porsche is expensive but is a standout over Jag and many other in more ways than one perhaps that is the reason of price difference compared.
Jaguar has surpassed all expectations for me. This is a true successor to the mighty E-Type. Anyone who doesn't agree please try to find a bad word said about this car.
A rear wheel drive car is never going to match a 4 wheel drive car in that statistic however when you consider 911 Turbo Cab = 286 BHP per ton F Type Cab = 296 BHP per ton you can see where he is coming from, this car is quick!
@thornrev: The first F-Types to be released are simply not comparable with a '911 Turbo' and should be compared with similarly spec'd & priced cars. The new Jaguar F-Type looks fast & good value in comparison with similarly-priced Porsche 911s, as official figures quoted in my post above prove. Jag are known to be working on hotter versions, possibly including a more track-orientated version with 600+bhp. Then there's the desirablility factor. The new Porsche 911 doesn't look 'new' at all.
And who is saying 997 turbo does 3.2 seconds, it was a figure tested by Motor Trends, the official time is about 3.7 sec with manual transmission and 3.4 with PDK. If F type had dual clutch, it could easily reach 3.6 second range. And besides F type V8 S is not contender against 911 turbo, more like carrera. Probably the F type R or R-S will go into that category.
Considering that Porsche has been working on the 911 for 20 years and this is the first year of the F Type I'd say that Jag has done well. As far as looks the 911 can't hang. Jag is going to have to put it on a diet if it's going to hang with one of the best sports cars in the world. I wonder how the V8 F Type will do? Jag claims that it's faster than the Carrera S! My guess is that it's only faster in a straight line but we shall see.
That's the point. They play in totally different leagues. But this biased piece of a so-called reviewer claimed that the F-Type is "911 turbo fast", which it certainly isn't.
Great looking and sounding car. But too heavy even with the alu construction and no MT or DCT. I hope they will do some weight trimming! And 0-60 is slower than the 991S (not that I would care about that).

Ordered a 911 have you?, HA!, this thing is beyond epic, looks, performance, sound, all of it. It's taken them a while, but Jag is back on form!

edgo45 the v8 version is 1665kg which calculates to 3670lbs .. not sure where you got 4900lbs from.

A 911 turbo is 4wd and rear engine'd. It's always going to have an advantage off the line. I would like to know how the 60-120 times stack up.

I don't think so, because my Mustang is still front engine RWD, but the IRS will def add some weight, just not THAT much.
