I finally bought one of these, nearly 5 years after first watching this video. It's just as good as Chris says. It's easily the most exciting car you can buy for the money.
So uhh.. I'm worried about maintenance issues with Jag as opposed to a Porsche Boxster... Thoughts coming from an owner like yourself? Some Ftypes are going for around 35k usd in my area
@ITS MAAAM I'm an F-Type owner. Also frequent forum visitor. Sir, what issues are you talking about? The versions (at least starting from 15-16MY) don't have any specific issues and weaknesses compared to any other car. Gearbox, compressor and engine are very reliable.
Rented one of these last weekend, drove it very spiritedly through the mountains of Arizona on winding roads. The noise was absolutely intoxicating I have to say this car is absolutely phenomenal
I'm a Porsche guy through and through, and I would never ever stray. But man, this thing............Oh this thing is pure pure pure sex. I love it. I love everything about what it stands for, how it looks, how it sounds. A Jaguar F type coupe in white. Prettiest car I've seen in the last 20 years easily. Just insanely well done Jaguar, well done.
+1 Gorilla Jones. Well Put. Porsche is the Alpha and Omega to me too. But like you, this car really does it. All aluminum. Sexy as hell. Wonderful sound and performance. It goes on n on. Great car! Well done Jaguar.
Gorilla Jones I could not agree with you any more! This car is just pure beauty, goddamn. I never thought my desires to buy a Porsche 911 C2S would ever be questioned, but this car has me thinking otherwise.
You get the sense that the guys do designed the F-Type, are real car lovers designing this on a fraction of Porsche’s budget. I love Porsche but the Jag has a bit of spirit about it.
My three all time favourite cars are the Nissan GT-R, Rolls Royce Phantom and the Koenigsegg Agera.. One is an extremely limited hypercar, one is an ultra-luxury object that you cannot drive yourself and the other is well.. Godzilla. But the F-Type is completely unique and an absolutely amazing car in my opinion. In its price range I don't think there's any other car I'd prefer to have over it. 458 Italia, Porsche 911, Merc SLS AMG? Naah, the beauty of this far exceeds what they have to offer IMO. Definitely my favourite new car and I firmly believe it will be remembered as classic, much like the legendary E-type.
am I right in you having removed yourself from the drive channel nightmare and struck out on your own again? those of us who love cars, all cars, well, most cars, are extremely appreciative. your humility will deny, but you, chris harris, are brilliant at what you do. many many thanks for continuing to share with us. cheers, to many more sessions of tire slaying and small brown man comedy.
Really love these. I owned a 911 Carrera 4 many years ago and it was a blast, but I agree the 911 just doesn't seem to have progressed much since. The F Type is new and refreshing in comparison, and I'd love to try one. Such a pretty car too.
12:00 - 12:07 Just poetry in motion. Got to say though, the v6 as an everyday is probably the more achievable in terms of cost, maintenance, fun and comfort, especially since its not as simple as 'getting the v8' given that its more or less twice the price. Also there is a range of sound in the v6 that the constant roar of the v8 cannot do. That said, the v8 is an awesome car. maybe to sum it up the v6 is more purr/poetry and the v8 more roar/power.
I agree with you. I chose to get the V6 because of it's lighter purr sound. I want people to enjoy the sound of the V6 version when I drive past. I know the V8 would be more fun because of the power but Im not the type to race supercars often
What you say about the interior is so true. Sadly, it's the same for many other cars costing 6 figures (117k CDN$). You'd think that the manufacturers wouldn't scrimp on a car costing 100k+. I've seen many sub-50k cars looking more luxurious than many Benz, BMW's...etc. I guess this is where the Aston's set themselves apart from the F-Types. They are more luxurious inside. Though, I'm sure there are bits in the interior of an AM that might also look out of place in a car in that price range. I haven't been in an AM so I can't comment...nor a F-Type for that matter...HEH... Having said that I still love the overall look of the F-Type R's interior (and of course exterior). Using the same font for the characters would have made sense. Most manufacturers DO use the same font. What was Jaguar thinking? :) On the other hand a F-Type buyer is looking for a more sportier GT car than the Aston Martins I prefer the look of the F-Type R over any AM. One of the best looking GT cars on the market. If not #1 IMHO. Makes 911's look boring...which they do (typical German engineering...looks boring w/ ZERO sex appeal but well engineered). Jaguar F-Type R = sportiness + aggression + elegance Aston Martin DBS/DB9 = sporty + elegant 911 = sporty Looking FWD to seeing what Jaguar does with the SVR version of this coupe. Hope they don't use the new front facia see in spy photos.
Crhis sorry I disagree with this time ... I think this is one of the most beautiful looking car ever from out and the cabin looks good too it's just perfect looking car
My Porsche dealership sells Porsche and Jaguars. They have just about every version with options of the 911 and even have a 918 on site (not for sale, it's the owners who leaves it there for display) and yet every time I go in for a service or to get my car washed my eyes are drawn to a fully optioned charcoal with carbon black F1. It's literally the most beautiful car in the showroom or on the lot. Ian Callum and Jag are really putting out some amazing cars.
Dear Chris, Thank you. Great video (to your team too). Great evaluation and fully agree. Had a 996tt loaded up, tuned, etc. Sold it years ago. Have been distracted and tried a Subaru STI….great car but not beautiful or special. Sold it…….life. Found a 2016 F-Type S. Balanced, F1 sound (even better than the V8 to my ear), a lot of power for the street….in theory tunable to 450hp/400ft lbs….. Amazing car. More fun than the Porsche turbo I had. Really. And one can use the throttle without fear of instant death and mayhem (the Porsche and many new cars are just too much for responsible use on public roads in my mind and as a result are forced into a boring state of half throttle use…..my opinion). I could not be happier with the car. And dare I say it, far more engaging and beautiful than a 911. If only Jaguar could market it more and perhaps grow a racing team around it more. This car makes one’s life better and more fun. The Porsche was more about being in the club. This is about making your own way.
One of the best sounding cars out their This car has done so much jag ppl would actually say yh i wnna own an ftype dont think many ppl would say that before
I agree everything from the noise, gear box, steering and the ass, apart from the fact that the ride is so firm and really not ideal for long journey. On British road it is painful. But all these make it a special car.
@Auto blipper yeah, this was when the world was fine and people just kept working while the stretch between the rich and poor, employed to unemployed just got bigger and bigger though properly operational. Pretty sure schools exist that work but because of this pandemic, they are all probably closed. It would be nice to take the ways of learning, find an abandoned smooth parking lot with cones and just practice but even then somethings could be missed resulting in a rollover crash and worse. Only to be trapped with coronavirus patients that if the accident didn't kill you, the lack of medical care would.
@Auto blipper yeah, it's going to be interesting to see what happens in 6 days when the people who don't have N95s die like flies.. I don't think NBA and other sporting events would ever be the same again. They are highly reliant upon marketing that businesses that are operating with their stock investors depend upon. If the things at the very bottom don't work all the way to the top, what is going to happen? I don't think anyone has an answer as most of what has been engineered in life was at the cost of people investing multiple years to decades of doing things properly hourly as time is money. It is how most of the world is brought up while there are people who get lucky with investments, lucky with gambles, who go on vacation and schools all the time while everybody else stays at the same level but that level is all being shattered and no one has an answer no matter how much money they have. You can see the voice and composure breakup when they talk about a solutions with a vaccine and such that is coming as they know and don't think it is going to work.
Most exciting sounding car of the last couple years... And best looking for a car in that price range. CAN NOT WAIT to take delivery of mine. ( my local dealer did not have one in stock that was the color I wanted or that was equipped with the specific optional extras I wanted- so they are doing a dealer trade this weekend they told me)
that car looks so much better than the facelifted one. if I had to replace my cayman with something from another brand, it would have to be the f-type. glorious sound. enjoy the car!
This is my dream car, not bothered about exotic supercars, I'd have this and drive it everywhere. If I could have more cars it's would be a GT3RS for track and an RS4/6/7 (just something with a bit of space)
Epic Review. On my second F-type because i could not find anything like it. went from 2017v6- S to the 550hp V8. can't get enough of it. test drove 911, M2, M4 and Mercedes. None nearly as fun. and unique as F-Type
I have a 3ltr FType and have the same problem, cannot find anything close. Still love the look of it so much. It's 75k miles now and drive it over 20k a year....should I consider the V8 or is the mpg just too bad ?
VIVA LA ZF ! The ZF transmission is my favorite part of my F-Type. 2WD or AWD; well I got the last year for 2WD and that is a limiting factor for going fast. But you will always have a limiting factor and what would it be if I went AWD, IDK. But I chose 2WD for the traditional value - hey, I already gave up a stick shift for paddles and there's only so much I am prepared to change at one time. Finally, trim level. I test drove both and the F-Type R was sublime. BUT, I bought an F-Type S as my daily driver, for city streets, freeway and country road mix of commute. You don't hunt deer with a howitzer, you use the right tool for the job. Now, 5 years later, it's time to sell and there is a problem - NOTHING sounds as good as any F-Type (I don't count the 4 cylinder as a real F-Type, so it's exhaust note is irrelevant). But then, nothing sounds and looks as good, and when I pull up at traffic lights on the way to the store I don't ALWAYS want to be the center of attention. So, maybe I could live with something less "Shouty" as Jeremy Clarkson called it. Yes shouty does get old. But it took 5 years to do so :)
thanks for the videos, as always. Still, 991 Turbo or GT3 on a track is the raining king! Let's face it, we all know he's a Porsche guy but sometimes he has to give credit to other cars as well. Chris, keep on!
Chris, considering that the F-Type now has optional manual transmissions on the V-6 versions and AWD on the R, are you planning on doing an updated look at the F-Type?
Chris, you are exactly correct about the interior. Not as nice as my BMW was. In particular I don't like how the seat bolster on the driver's side shows wear on the leather within a couple of thousand miles. And the seats just don't seem as comfortable as my BMW. The leather wear is Unacceptable!. However, whenever I put it in dynamic mode and floor the throttle, none of that matters. It's a Beast, and can be forgiven for the few warts.
I love /DRIVE, your just mad you need to eat into your video game money to see Drive+ videos. They're one of few channels that brings REAL high quality automotive content, what's there to hate about that?
He is wrong about the "plastic" on the center tunnel. It is NOT carbon fiber-looking cheap plastic as he puts it. It is high quality "Technical Weave" Aluminum......and while I am at it, I have to fully disagree with his comments on the quality of the interior...it is better than the 997 as it does not rattle at all like my turbo S used to. It is very "tight". The whole car feels like it is made from a single billet of aluminum. I do how ever agree that the door trims could be a notch up in the materials department.
I'm 50 years old it's now 2022 and I'm looking for a used one. It's the only way I could ever afford one. With a house payment. So getting a really tip top used one is what I'm going to be looking for here in the next year. My dad bought a Corvette at his 50th around his 50th birthday. But for me Corvette will not do not even the new one well I couldn't even afford the new one. But for me Jaguar is the way to go for me I know there's a lot of maintenance in this thing I'm not going to drive it a whole bunch it's not going to be an everyday car I have a Mazda for that. But those weekends what I'm not truck driving oh boy you have no idea.
The F type is an astonishingly good looking car. If this car could shave 100kg then that would be great. 200kg off then it would be a triumph. The figure of 200kg may require too much expensive material though.
+Arnaldo Juris Maclaren most likely thats what i thought too, maclern has the same problem with its p1 front comes in tidy then power overwhelms that rwd
Great review even though it's for the older RWD version. Please do an updated review of the AWD '17 F-Type R or SVR & give us your opinion of it vs. a NORMALLY aspirated 911.
both Jag and LR, and Hyundai for that matter have purchased the 5.0l V8 tooling from Ford sense the 5.0l Coyote sense it came to market 6 or so years ago.
Having said that why not have 3 buttons , Button 1 ,Take a bird home in comfort or drive to france ,Button 2 for someone who thinks they can drive fast,Button 3 for balls out track days ,A rolls has NO buttons
I am a Porsche guy too. I like this car as Old School though. But have you noticed they always have to compare most of these cars to what? Yes, thats right - Porsche. The 911S will eat this Jags lunch on that track though. But as just a fun driving car these look like great cars. Good review.
Loving the Ass remarks Chris 😂 indeed it reminds me if my Missus's bottom 😊. I only drive the V6S due to there not being a fuel tanker on the options list but it still drives and sounds awesome and looks a million dollars 😆
+Daniel Sadjadian I doubt it, the AMG with tc off is a lunatic for sure, the interiors are awesome too, shit if it was me, it would be a hard choice, I would probably go to the f-type at the end of the day, but I think I would be losing to the GT-S. I just think that the f-type has much more to give with 3 or 4 upgrades, so it would like to hire the 2 best person and build that person to be the undisputed 1.
+snazari1994 The F type is not about performance. It focuses on the driving experience such as sound, comfort and fun handling. Different cars have different agendas. Almost like politics only it is fun.
+Daniel Sadjadian Sound is subjective :P I, personally, prefer the rumbling AMG GT. Plus the interior of Merc is way more luxurious imho. Naturally it's up to preference, the Merc is more polished than the kind of raw Jag. Imho, again. :D
F type by far. Looks like a million bucks. The mercedes, to a normal onlooker looks like a normal sports car mercedes. Plus with the f type you get awesome crackles every time you let off the throttle
David Oh Thanks, installed twitter on my phone just for that haha. Anyway, i hope he can release a video about it soon, because i wont lie, i want to see him drit it :D
Chris...if I ever get cancer, can I get the _Make a Wish Foundation_ to meet you? :P *Because you're the most humble, and genuinely awesome automotive tester in existence.* I'm not just being sappy, you truly approximate what automotive passion is IMO. :)
I’m confused. This is the car everyone claimed was a death trap? Leading to Jag making the new one all wheel drive? Thing is amazing with ONLY the back wheels being powered!!
Cant agree there Chris. I would take this interior over 911 in a heartbeat. Maybe materials everywhere are not top notch but at least its much more special (not dull as in Porsche).
I finally bought one of these, nearly 5 years after first watching this video.
It's just as good as Chris says. It's easily the most exciting car you can buy for the money.
Congrats to you sir, enjoy the heck out of it
How much if you dont mind me asking?
Which one did you get? I'm thinking of getting the SVR.

What a beautiful beautiful car. Absolutely stunning. Sounds incredible as well. Bravo Jaguar.
I'm a Porsche guy through and through, and I would never ever stray. But man, this thing............Oh this thing is pure pure pure sex. I love it. +1 Gorilla Jones. Well
Put. Porsche is the Alpha and Omega to me too. But like you, this car really does it. All aluminum. Sexy as hell. Wonderful sound and performance. It goes on n on. Great car! Well done Jaguar.
***** what are you talking about? I clearly say I love the F Type. Lol internet, you so crazy...
C7 Corvette Stingray in white is pretty fierce. Don't like any other colors.
Gorilla Jones I could not agree with you any more! This car is just pure beauty, goddamn. I never thought my desires to buy a Porsche 911 C2S would ever be questioned, but this car has me thinking otherwise.
This guy has the best job in the world
Chris Harris is the man
And he is British
The F-Type truly does have one of the best looking asses in the automotive game.
It's like Alexis Texas back there.
Not one of the best, but the very best!!!
Alexis Texas is trash
Who is Alexis Texas? 😋
I'd say Sophia Vergara 😂😂😂 one stunning Ass 👌
I'd prefer Mia Malkova.. but.. I respect other opinions too
Chris Harris = absolute star. better video production than Top Gear with a tenth of the staff AWESOME
he's best in the world
Still going back to this video in 2019
ian mulley still deaming of the pre facelift, rwd F-Type R 😍
*Laughs in 2020*
2021 🤷🏻♂️
2023 😏
2024🎉
Probably my favorite "new car" out there
"Omg , its a UK car, and I am UK, so of course the car is all that"...
Trolling 2 year old comments? I'm guessing there isn't much going on in your life...
You get the sense that the guys do designed the F-Type, are real car lovers designing this on a fraction of Porsche’s budget. I love Porsche but the Jag has a bit of spirit about it.
Damn! This car looks perfect from every angle
+Bonnie_Supertramp like a slice of stilton you cant beat it unless youve got a big stick
+Jamie Niven you get that on the big jobs
It’s beautiful and so fun to drive!
I didn't think much of the looks of this thing until I saw one on the road and it definitely has an impressive presence.
One of the best drivers in the world, and one of the best car reviewers around. Driving one of the best looking cars.
for my wedding I got an F-type for the weekend with my wife . driving the car was the best part of this weekend XD
F-Type was a virgin for you. Better sounds than your wife?!
F type was for sure louder🤣
If ur wife reads this u will be in serious do do
The magic of this car is the rear end. It is put together like no other. What a design. No wonder men go wild for one!
My three all time favourite cars are the Nissan GT-R, Rolls Royce Phantom and the Koenigsegg Agera.. tf you can pick used f types nowadays for 35-50k is crazy with how much power luxury and sound you get
am I right in you having removed yourself from the drive channel nightmare and struck out on your own again?
those of us who love cars, all cars, well, most cars, are extremely appreciative. your humility will deny, but you, chris harris, are brilliant at what you do. many many thanks for continuing to share with us. cheers, to many more sessions of tire slaying and small brown man comedy.
The F-Type is one of the best cars of all time. I would really like to own one.
I got to drive one of these the other day. Chances are I won't drive a car that good again for a long time. So incredible.
By far, this is my favorite auto....sleek, luxurious, sporty...WOW
Definitely one among the best sounding cars of all time ( in stock form)
Really love these. I owned a 911 Carrera 4 many years ago and it was a blast, but I agree the 911 just doesn't seem to have progressed much since. The F Type is new and refreshing in comparison, and I'd love to try one. Such a pretty car too.

Looking FWD to seeing what Jaguar does with the SVR version of this coupe. Hope they don't use the new front facia see in spy photos.
I like Chris Harris's videos.
Loved this video, my favourite video review of all Jaguar F Type R.
Sold it to me, literally!
Saw one today in this color...OMG this is one of the most gorgeous vehicles that I've ever seen...absolutely beautiful car
Crhis sorry I disagree with this time ... I think this is one of the most beautiful looking car ever from out and the cabin looks good too it's just perfect looking car
I'd love to Chris test-drive the 2020 F-Type. Please.
2019 , still the best looking and roaring car
Watching in 2024 and I am obsexed (pun intended) with the F-Type! Great video and track driving. Soon owner of a blue+beige V6 AWD Roadster.
My Porsche dealership sells Porsche and Jaguars. Wish the prices would go back down in 2022. Love these R’s.
Vintage, classic, Chris Harris, and why he was and is the best auto-journalist out there.
Got one as my day car. Love it to bits. Mine is a 2014. Had it now for 3 years and think will have it for a lot longer
Traded in my supercharged C7 for a 17 R about a month ago. Really love it so far
I’m about to get a 2014 v8 R with 18k on the clock - worth it? I was wondering if I should be looking for a younger one.
I love everything about this car :D
One of the best sounding cars out their

As the other guys say, this car is stunning looking and sounding. Good luck to Jaguar!
i bought this car without trying it because of this review, love the car. Scott Maynard i'm missing this beast. Director Jaguar Service Australia.
Hows it looks after bought thatcar?
I wish there were reviews as good as this on motorcycles...
Car magazines don't have Ogri. So it's about equal.
Their are a great many, but their in the coroners office.
Still the best car videos even 5 years on 👍🏼
This over a 911 any day!!
Hope they sort out the few glitches here and there.

Wut??
+Bruno Danese not to mention, i personally find 911 fans a bit annoying
what glitches?

Finally got my MY18 V6 Manual in Caldera Red with only 25K miles ♥️
that car looks so much better than the facelifted one. if I had to replace my cayman with something from another brand, it would have to be the f-type. glorious sound. enjoy the car!
Chris Harris is the best car reviewer in the WHOLE world.
I bought one of these in 2020 and kept it for about 6 months. It was a lotta fun and took it everywhere even to worktrips.

Yet another great review from Chris Harris.
Keep them coming!
I would definitely take this over a Porsche 911
Definatly a different taste than all the cars that are out there
So happy I've got one😊 great review Chris !!!! 👍
thanks for the videos, as always.
IMO this is the most beautiful car regardless of price.
thank god you have your own channel, Drive was awful with exceptions to your videos
Hallelujah
I love /DRIVE, your just mad you need to eat into your video game money to see Drive+ videos.
They're one of few channels that brings REAL high quality automotive content, what's there to hate about that?
the drive talk show was nothing but cringe and facepalms
I bought this car last week the V8 version.....indeed an amazing car..
This is V8, so I call bs on you owning one. If you didn't know this was a V8. Especially when it says on the heading.
What a great review!Well done Chris
Congrats. I can feel even how you enjoy drive an test the cars.
I want one, well done Jaguar! Beautiful and powerful, LOVE it!!!!!!!
I don't know about the looks, but the sound, oh my my that sound, its fucking MADMAX.

"Almost everyone I've spoken to thinks the outside is a triumph"
I can say the same about my 1970 Stag.
That first shot with the car getting sideways looks like the S-turn after the tunnel towards the end of grand valley track!
Thanks Chris for resharing on your site. Luv your reviews keep them coming!
I'd like to hear Chris's opinion on the new or last year jaguar Ftype R 4wd and if he still finds it as exciting.
Great video Chris. I'm very happy to have found your channel. I loved your videos over at Drive and will continue to support you!
This must be one of the best reviews ever!
Finally a guy who gets it - as a convert from 997 to F-Type R, the interior is amazing. No more rattlecan!
I've never been a big fan of jags but I have to admit that this car is pretty dope.
8:32 I thought Chris was going fly through my screen....
Brilliant review! It's making want to switch back to two doors again!
Chassis must have been made in partnership with Lotus or McLaren. It's damn good in the corners.
+Arnaldo Juris Maclaren most likely thats what i thought too, maclern has the same problem with its p1 front comes in tidy then power overwhelms that rwd
....and LeMans winners
notformebeaky plus a formula one team.
Chris... You don't have to hold the start button down. Just click it once... Experts i swear.
I still prefer the XK. It has a special place in heart. It's timeless and iconic.
The new E-type, gorgeous
Great review even though it's for the older RWD version. Please do an updated review of the AWD '17 F-Type R or SVR & give us your opinion of it vs. a NORMALLY aspirated 911.
thanks again for the lovely video Chris!
both Jag and LR, and Hyundai for that matter have purchased the 5.0l V8 tooling from Ford sense the 5.0l Coyote sense it came to market 6 or so years ago.
awesome driving! Beautiful looking and performing car!
The looks and the sound of this car....*drool*
How come when you went to the track it’s a different jag
The jag your in has all black seats but the 1st jag had black and white seats ???
Chris it does have that E type rear end ,so it is great on so many levels ,Jag is back
Having said that why not have 3 buttons , Button 1 ,Take a bird home in comfort or drive to france ,Button 2 for someone who thinks they can drive fast,Button 3 for balls out track days ,A rolls has NO buttons
Awesome work Chris as usual mate
Chris had so many of us pining over the M135i, I do find myself wondering if he achieved the same with this review.
F - Type vs AMG GTs ?
+snazari1994 Hard choice.... but the Ftype looks and sounds so much nicer! I think the Ftype would be probably be more fun to drive.
+snazari1994
The F type is not about performance.
Plus with the f type you get awesome crackles every time you let off the throttle
nice video, i hope you can review the AMG GT soon, i'd love to see your opinion about it :D
he has in, written form check his twitter
David Oh Thanks, installed twitter on my phone just for that haha.
Anyway, i hope he can release a video about it soon, because i wont lie, i want to see him drit it :D
its your lucky day! he just put up his AMG GT review!!
iwantmoms335 haha thx even though i already watched it a few times x)
Just as i expected, tires' smoke everywhere :D
Great review Chris...Please review the F-Type SVR as soon as possible :)
Chris...if I ever get cancer, can I get the _Make a Wish Foundation_ to meet you? :P
*Because you're the most humble, and genuinely awesome automotive tester in existence.*
I'm not just being sappy, you truly approximate what automotive passion is IMO. :)
I’m confused. This is the car everyone claimed was a death trap? Leading to Jag making the new one all wheel drive? Thing is amazing with ONLY the back wheels being powered!!
Thank you for the explanation because I really didn't understand why he was going on and on..
Cant agree there Chris. I would take this interior over 911 in a heartbeat. Maybe materials everywhere are not top notch but at least its much more special (not dull as in Porsche).
At 7.01 did Chris say the steering on the Jag was 'better than a 911' because the Jag's wasn't 'artificial and electric' like in a 911...?
