Listened to Charlie on 8 track in my Auntie's van on a road trip from Knappa, Oregon to the old family homestead near Minot, N. Dakota. My first introduction to this fabulous singer at 13 yo, never forgot him. ❤
His so talented. I was raised hearing his voice singing and many other Country and western artists as Dolly, Kenny, Loretta, Tammy, Johnny, Willie, Charlie and so much more. I now still like these artists but I ended up been a Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne fan..though. My father knew my passion for Metallica especially and I would listen for hours alone in my bedroom with them mainly playing their discs band cassette tapes. I think he finally approved of my musical tastes..years later.

I'll never forget how he came of the plane in Louisville Kentucky and pushing his wife in a wheelchair and he stopped and went back to the doorway and waited on my son to exit the plane. Songs of home, small towns, loves and losts. I remember pulling vinyls out and seeing Charlie's face. He stood out. Obviously. My mother loved his music. I used to put my ear to the wall to the garage from my bed and hear this song while my dad was building a dirt track race car...never forgot it and love old country
I was a limo driver and I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet man and his wife. He asked me which song was my favorite I told him this one. Shortly after meeting him he passed away.

I'm not American. I'm son of Irish immigrants, born in London, UK, in the 1985.
My mother was a fan of Country. This era (and before), not the later stuff. Many Irish people were. Songs of home, small towns, loves and losts.
I remember pulling vinyls out and seeing Charlie's face. He stood out. Obviously. My mother loved his music.
It's really, quite, I dunno... weird - this space America seems to be in. A 'black' person being a fan of Country, that's almost a unicorn. Probably gets some grief about it. I'm not unawares of American history, but, yeah, always seems a bit weird to me.
