I'm a black woman who was raised in Central Florida in the '70s. As a small girl, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother who lived in a small country town no one has ever heard of (Greenville, Florida). She had a small radio that she kept on her fireplace mantel and every morning I would wake up to this song. Now, I'm 52, and today I hear this song and it brings back such good memories of much simpler times. Back then in that small town, we didn't think about black and white, or who had more than the other. We were all just country people who were trying to make a way for ourselves. We kept up our homes, worked in our gardens, canned our fruits, played in the woods, waved at strangers, and got excited the one time a week we would go to town to shop, and it was all done to the backdrop of beautiful and timeless music like this song. I'm thankful to have been born at that time. Oh, if we could just go back for a little while.
I'm a black man who grew up in Charleston, SC. I was born in 1966. I remember hearing this song played on AM radio in the early 1970's. To this very day it's one of my favorites. The politically divisive environment that exists today can not comprehend the relationship that existed between working class black and white people in the south that I remember. I just want to say that I love my white brothers and sisters of the south. We loved and supported each other. I remember the stories of my parents and grand parents of the Great Depression and World War II and how we pulled through. Southern history is often characterized as racist and intolerant. That's not the south I remember growing up in. People loved and respected one another.
heard this song first time back in 1974 very popular in my country Chile ,I was very young ...beautiful memories ....loved your touching comment ...God Bless you !!
I was born in 1957 and I thank God for it. I had the opportunity in the 70s to attend concerts, now considered timeless. I'm 66 now, diagnosed with cancer, terminal. In the few months I have left, I'm listening to these classics to bring peace to my soul.
God bless you. I am sorry that you are going through this awful disease that does not discriminate. I have lost many family members to cancer. I pray that you have comfort every day and that you can listen to this fine music throughout your journey.
I was born in 1952, The 70s was indeed great for concerts. Hope you do find peace!!!! Life can be difficult. Depends how we cope. My heart goes out to you. !!!!

Kool beans, after the Anglo Boer war (1899 to 1902) where the Boer (Afrikaner) people - see women and kids were interned in concentration camps and 'raped' ok for a chocolate or food a screw and 26000 died those days, and well so we forgave them, we the Boere (World rugby cup winners 3rd time) won't forget, why should we, its history. However the Black South Africans are making money after Apartheid so much that they destroyed the infrastructure of the country through BEEE and corruption that there is almost nothing left. So pal if you were born in Charleston in the US or here it wouldn't matter here in South Africa, black people won't vote for any white party as they now skim all the money. Black school kids over here have kids and get paid R300/kid per month per kid. No problem with black teachers screwing kids for better marks here brother.. Well I don't know what to say. At least the coloureds don't, so that over here things changed..it's Africa all over again. Well your borders are open so gone is the US

I was 12 when this came out. For our achool Christmas party we got to make a list of what we wanted to give to the kid who drew our name. I wanted this song and "Heartbeat Its A Love Beat" by The Defranco Family. I was SO EXCITED to receive the two 45s and couldn't WAIT to get home to listen! It was a cold dark dreary day, as my Mother drove us home from the last day of school before our Christmas break. I remember driving under an old oak tree that stretched it's branches across the street and my Mother pointing out a cluster of mistletoe that was left behind, clinging to the naked tree branch. Once at home I grabbed my little record player and sat down next to the ceramic tiled floor heater, next to my Mother's old player piano and listened to these songs OVER & OVER. Christmas time holds my best childhood memories and when I need to relive them on hard days, I come to the music that filled my heart with such peace and joy. Music is SUCH a POWERFUL force!❤🎶🎵❤

As a girl who was born in the 2000's, this is one of those songs that my mom and grandma used to listen to when I was a child. I totally forgot about it, but suddenly, one day I heard it again and it magically made me go back to those days and also brought back a lot of beautiful memories. It's a delicate and yet such an amazing song. They just don't create music like this anymore.

Every morning for school, my dad use to sing this in my ear, until I woke up smiling for school. Every single morning. I miss you so much dad. Woke up today and heard the song in my ear and started crying. Rip dad pancreatic cancer at age 47 😓
I am with you 100%. Our forefathers fought so hard and died for our freedom. Now a days they do not care if we have a country or not. You are a blessing to our country and I wish we had millions of you. You are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for your sentiments and who you as a proud loving American. God Bless you and the rest of my brothers & sisters in the USA. Much Love ❤️

I hear this song in my head daily for 50; years going. The back seat while mom & pop drove. Memorized this tune at 4 years old! Still gives me goosebumps to listen to.
My grandfather used to sing this song to my mother in her crib and as a baby. Tonight I played this for my 3 day old daughter and filmed it to send to my mother and when I was done I realized i couldn't send it because it was literally too much. I'll save it for one day down the line.
I may have listened to this song for the last time . It is one of my precious moms favorite songs. Im with her next to her bed at the home . just played it for her . She’s 94, and will probably with god before the weekend . I sang along , not too bad either . Lol. I just wanted to type this to commemorate the moment , or something . I used to listen to this song with my Papa down in Salt Springs Florida. We would go fishing and he would bring his radio and sing this sitting up on that front seat as I sat in the back. I took a mental image of that and I have always cherished this song. He loved my grandma for 61 years and I'd do anything to have one more fishing trip. A P-51 pilot and mechanic and it's the passion in this song that always makes me cry. I love and miss you Papa, I'm still singing it with you. R.I.P
Hey, who isn't listening to this now 2019!! If only the world had more music, such as this, what a world we would live in. Thanks, for the post. It is nice to hear great music, lyrics and vocals!! You can actually understand every word that he is singing. How beautiful!!! Love it - - thank you.
Hello 👋 Laura. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I am Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl.
Mid 70's. I was around 9 and grownups were listening to this song. Brings back pleasant memories. If I put together a soundtrack for the story of my life, this song woul have to be included. Thank you.
Takes me back to Nevada, Missouri on a sunny morning in August. My girlfriend and I had decided our long distance romance was not going to work. I was getting ready to leave to go home about 300 miles away and this song came on. We changed our mind before the song was over. However, after about three years of the long distance romance we finally grew apart. One thing I really liked about her was that we were both romantics. We loved listening to good music like this. After many years, I contacted her old phone number and reached her mother. A few weeks later I got a call from her. We talked for a couple of hours all the while playing old songs from the time we dated. I’m a sentimental fool.
Great story John. Beautiful song! I had a long distance romance (over 3,000 miles) but we have been together now for 11 years and no sign of her walking out on me yet!
I can't listen to this song without crying. My mom used to tell me it reminded her of my dad because he sang it to her when they first got together. They are both gone now.

My ex used to play this song every time we had a bad argument. I heard an instrumental version at the nail salon today and now I’m so emotional. I’ve been on the verge of tears. We split in 2015 and this is the first time I’ve heard it since. Lord help me!

Love this great Classic Country Song of Charlie Rich. I was a kid in the 1970's hearing this Song & loving it. And Charlie Rich Voice is beautiful with this Song. Only he can sing this Song like this.
Singer had such a sensual voice. He died at 62- that’s way too young. Reading how his songs (him) struggled for success(?) we, fans never know the hard times talent is not appreciated. His voice is almost unforgettable- to me.
Hello 👋 Bertha. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I am Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl.
Charlie Rich sang Mohair Sam - the song Elvis had on repeat the whole time he and the Beatles met! Elvis loved the song. Which brought me here and to discover the phenomenal Charlie Rich. ❤️
My aunt really was the most beautiful girl in the county. She was also the kindest person that I've ever known and a mighty role model for any young girl. When her husband died young of a sudden heart attack, she fought like a lion to save our 200 year-old family farm for future generations. When this song came on the radio as we were eating supper in her big farmhouse kitchen, we'd all look at her and make her blush. She and my uncle met and fell in love during WWII and I know that they are dancing to Elvis in Heaven, together again. 🎉N E 🎉
My dear father loved this song..as a child he would sing it..he learned English with this song...very fond memories..I miss my papa very much..thanks for uploading it

This I believed heart & soul when my own had to leave me barely nine & he just 32 the night before 1980, so when I came upon you words while lying here it begun to play so began reading the comments there was the one stuck out so true to myself, just needed to respond to ensure that you might know hiw the words you'd post simply sweet to me, thank you. 😊

They really are deep in our hearts. Greetings from Peru.
My dad had this record and would play this *every* time we had disagreements! He was the best dad I could have ever had! It’s such a cuuuute memory now that he has passed away! 💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I miss his singing! Music means so much to me because of him! I have so many memories tired to music…and I love it! 🎁 I’m so blessed!
Hey how are you doing today?😊
Really!!!! My Dad also did with me an my sister! Like Everytime Id asked to drive an depending on where we would go sometimes i Couldent an I would get all mad in the car and he would knock me in the head and start singing this!! He passed away when I was 16 unexpectedly.. He was my best friend!...
Ohh- this song reminds me of my Dad too. He's still here, and I love him so much!!!!!
You were blessed to have a father that was loving and kind to you.
My father treated us like we were soldiers in the military
He was a marine...my mom wasn't nice either
We didn't grow up in a loving environment
It reminds me of my Dad too!!
That voice. My Childhood.
Sweet memories right
Recorded in 1973. I remember it clearly. The song has not lost any of its luster!
His voice sounds just like my Daddy who passed away a month ago yesterday and makes me think of my Dad I miss him so much.

Same thing for me...
Love this!
They played this a lot when I was a kid in the 70s.
Wonderfully saif GP. If only we could go back in time for a bit...
@@tarstarkusz Yes they did ! Brings me back ! 😊
Hello 👋 Maria. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl

Hello how are you doing

This was the song that my husband and I dance to on our wedding day in 1976. After 39 plus years of married he passed away of a heart attack. It will be 5 years in August 2020.

This song always tugs at my heart. Something about the words, melody, voice and my circumstances at the time.
^^ Yup, me too. Charlie Rich- The Silver Fox.
He was a great singer
Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day… Stay Safe!

I’ve known a few , but she IS the most beautiful girl in the world to me . Catherine Skivers . Mom , blind advocate , best friend .

The '70s really had it all!
And then some.
My mom was the president of his fan club. I grew up thinking he was also my dad.
I love this music one of my favorite of all time nice lyrics. How are you Dana ?
Sporadic commercial success in the 50s and 60s, the 70s got Charlie Rich where he obviously belonged all the time: at the very top.
I still can't listen to this without a tear. It's been 15 years since my dad died and it was a song he loved.
Yes sir, same thing with me. I lost my Dad 15 years ago. He and I really liked this song.
I'm sorry to hear this. My Heartfelt Condolences to You and your Family
Hey, who isn't listening to this now 2019!! If only the world had more music, such as this, what a world we would live in. Thanks, for the post. It is nice to hear great music, lyrics and vocals!! You can actually understand every word that he is singing. How beautiful!!! Love it - - thank you.

I was very young when this song came out 60s and 70s country was great..
Mid 70's. I was around 9 and grownups were listening to this song. Brings back pleasant memories. If I put together a soundtrack for the story of my life, this song woul have to be included. Thank you.
Mine too. I use to hear this in the 70s -80s.
that's cool.
" If I put together a soundtrack for the story of my life," DO IT! Love to hear it!
@@Paul-vc8on nope.

Hello John Parker, no you're not a old fool.... you're someone with a heart and this proves it. God bless you

Wow. Forgot about this song. Haven't heard it in close to 40 yrs.
Timeless music of the 70's. Unmatched. Distinct sounds of country, rock, R&B, disco. Original. No autotune needed. Real talent.
My ex used to play this song every time we had a bad argument. I heard an instrumental version at the nail salon today and now I’m so emotional. I’ve been on the verge of tears. We split in 2015 and this is the first time I’ve heard it since. Lord help me!

GREAT song !!!
Love this great Classic Country Song of Charlie Rich. I was a kid in the 1970's hearing this Song & loving it. And Charlie Rich Voice is beautiful with this Song. Only he can sing this Song like this.
I think it's Morris Albert and played on all the rock stations I've never heard of it referred to as "country"
Charlie Rich "The Silver Fox".
Oh no I don't know Charlie Rind passed away young
wow poetry in a song beautiful lyrics fantastic singer pure genius
Charlie Rich sang Mohair Sam - the song Elvis had on repeat the whole time he and the Beatles met! Elvis loved the song. Which brought me here and to discover the phenomenal Charlie Rich. ❤️
the most beautiful country song🌷
I 'm 73, coolest song i' ve heard
This is the song my father wanted at his funeral, and my sister was hell bent on making that not happen! Rip, Dad!❤️
Hey how are you doing today?😊
My aunt really was the most beautiful girl in the county. She was also the kindest person that I've ever known and a mighty role model for any young girl. When her husband died young of a sudden heart attack, she fought like a lion to save our 200 year-old family farm for future generations. When this song came on the radio as we were eating supper in her big farmhouse kitchen, we'd all look at her and make her blush. She and my uncle met and fell in love during WWII and I know that they are dancing to Elvis in Heaven, together again. 🎉N E 🎉
My dear father loved this song..as a child he would sing it..he learned English with this song...very fond memories..I miss my papa very much..thanks for uploading it
I'm not a country fan, But when it comes to a classic like this, Then I guess I am after all. These words will not be found in your average song,Listen, and appreciate this classic.
I feel I have to come back and just say another time, that this song is, like a marriage vow between two loving couples, its a life time song.
Oh Yes
Ummm, time to wake up and realize how ignorant these lyrics are, or just stay in your trance, best to ya
Thank you. My Dad was one of the three writers on this song. Rory Bourke. They wrote the words and the melody in 1973.
The 70s were the best time in America. We peaked out.
