You even also need hi-end PC to run Dwarf Fortress properly XD A light game that need lot of specs not because the graphic but because the complexity. Each blocks matters. Just like Minecraft XD My 4GB RAM laptop can't even run DF properly when they reach like.. Almost 100 dwarves with lot of items 😭. it will start to slowing down.
While it is true DF and Minecraft need to do a lot of calculations constantly, the real reason why they have such terrible performance is because both games only run on a single cpu core, meaning they can only use a fraction of your processor's total power. unfortunately unless you're rebuilding the game, (see bedrock edition minecraft), adding multithreading isn't easy. maybe the upcoming steam version will include multithreading and DF will actually be playable at larger scales.

As I read it: dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Relationship There is a relationship level. A high value does *not* imply that they like or dislike each other. It is not a signed int that goes above and below 0 like Diplomatic realtions in games. It is merely a "how well they know each other" tracking. And it is increased by Socializing Acquaintance or Friend is observed as start status between practically all starting dwarves. This might even be if their Relation is still a 0. When the Familarity level hits 15, the game decides if it goes for friendship or grudge based on personality traits If ~40 and they are friends, they can become lovers. If ~50 and lovers, they can get married. My guess is their relation level is still below 15, and that she sees him as a friend is simply a mater of starting dwarf generation
I hope that "corrupting" is more like "making a plot acquaintance". The innitiation that some plot exists, so the game can go on with relevant plot elements down the line.

The part with the mutant dwarf named Cog was kind of endearing, actually. He doesn't care that he got turned into a horrible monster, he still fights for his people and wants to belong.
I once had this monitor lizard monster thing siege a dwarf fortress then after it settled there and started a wrestling tournament with the dwarves. He's the winner every time.
Libash and Tobul make an interesting pair. They'll be doing a lot of jobs, because when you have a small fortress, every dwarf has to get self-sufficient. Seeing Libash use that axe was a great, especially since Libash means axe. The little ding sound effect for info boxes is a welcome addition, and it's not intrusive. The detailed pictures were well worth the wait. Keep up the great work Kruggsmash.
They seemed to get to the high point of their relationship after, when they closed down to visitors. Marriage and a child, all happened after the corruption.

I did something similar once, a miniature fortress (just the original 7) running an inn. Lots of farming, cooking and brewing, and I started with a dedicated musician too. Was a lot of fun until one of the visitors turned into a were-something and another kind of Fun happened :P.
Oh no. This fortress reminds me of a writing prompt I read once. It was about an inkeep who served everyone, criminal and hero alike. One day, some gang who did not know tried to rob that inn and stared into the eyes of almost every greater power of that world just relaxing and having a good time.
Imagine you and your friends running into the necromancer lord that slaughtered your village in a tavern and putting aside your differences and vengence long enough for some mutton stew and to waste a group of badits together.
That actually doesnt sound like a bad concept for a short anime or book. The idea being that a small couple owns a restaurant in midevil times, and they were blessed by a goddess who once tried their food and liked it. Now, ppl from all over the world, good and bad, come to the restaurant bc the food is good and they legit like the place. Anyone who enters must be kind to the other patrons or else they may never enter the resturant again. If they try, they are simply teleported out or they magically forget. So you just have a tavern where it's full of ppl and beasts alike ranging from goblin necromancers to who knows what.

with how many times monster hunters and other people with a violent past keep visiting I get the sense the outside world is an extremely turbulent world and the peacefulhome people moved out to become hermits and escape the violence of the world, making this the only peaceful corner of the world

I ran a fortress of only 7 dwarves who's purpose was to create an inn for travelers. Its was pretty chill and I really got to sink into the characters and there stories.
Yeah the corruption thing makes it weird to do small forts since they’ll get corrupted multiple times when in a normal fort 6 different dwarves would have been hit

Honestly? After so many years mastering how to tame old aquifers and reaping the benefits of them (Mist generators and traps) it feels wrong to use the new ones.

I like to think that the encounter in the caverns made Tobul realize that the "Peaceful" part of Peacefulhome was really what he cared for, and that he trulay wants to focus on his family rather than dwelling on anger.
This fortress was dope af! Wow, imagine going out for the first time in search of some excitement, then single-handedly slaying a forgotten beast in your very first fight! Libash is legendary. Hopefully we get to see more of this fortress in the future
Don't know how practical it would be, might need a bit bigger starting crew but I think fort with a tiny population and TONS of automatisation would be pretty cool. Carts to ferry goods and dorfs all over the place, mills and the like powered by water wheels etc.
You better install proper bathing/cleaining rooms for those two, get that bloody gas off/keepin clean. Also, taverns are best held outside of the vital areas of a fort, they may as well be separate buildings, just have one with a trapdoor to the fort, opposed to IN a fort. Useful for keeping invaders out/distracted.
There's something so charming about seeing a fort with just two people in it. It's a nice one to come back to after taking a break from the Fort videos. I'm inspired to pick up the game and maybe try my hand at running a popular tavern. Maybe staff it with the original 7 and only the 7. Maaaaybe a few others in case we need some well-trained 'bouncers' to keep the place safe.
I definitely needed this episode to relax today, and not yesterday, so it all works out fine in the end. Thanks for working so hard on keeping us entertained; you're the best Dwarf Fortress content creator on UA-cam imo.
From the intro I got an idea for a two-person fort (maybe one where one of the dwarves is in charge of farming etc. and the other for cooking for extra challenge) where the dwarves are in separate forts or floors so they can never meet. The only way for them to exchange items and such is by having two drop holes where they can drop items for each other. For example their forts could be side-by-side on the same z-level with one end going down one z-level and running under the other fort to make the item exchange zones.
One legged ... Bard..... Have u checked if he Has vampire fangs a penchant for beekeping and mead, u might want to also see if he Has a slab and divine metal equipment stashed somewhere.
I did like the hermit fortress idea. I haven't been able to play DF for years, but I do remember trying something similar, having the original 7 dwarves try to set up something like a martial artist monk's retreat. It survived a few years, but finally ended with an epic last stand on a thin bridge over a deep river gorge, the last martial artist monk falling to his death after slaying quite a few of the invaders.
Having never played myself, I approve of this as an idea of how I would probably start to get used to it. I like nice relaxing places, or as relaxing as you can get in Dwarf Fortress anyway.
That fight between Libash and that Forgotten Beast was super tense. I thought she was gonna die but she turned out to be one heck of a fighter. Thanks for the quality Dwarf Fortress content as usual, Kruggsmash!
I remember you once said you seen an elf who at an entire town population. Like a lot of people. I fought through my first vile force of darkness, a goblin and some kidnapped dwarves. We took em out but my leaders had to be replaced because the trauma of the fight.
I used to play a ton of tiny forts (up to 10 dorfs) in a small 2x2 map. Mainly for performance reasons but it's a great exercise in learning to play the game, taking things slowly and not getting too overwhelmed.

AFAIK "kindred spirit" is like a platonic soul mate.
There's something so charming about seeing a fort with just two people in it. It's a nice one to come back to after taking a break from the Fort videos.
I'm inspired to pick up the game and maybe try my hand at running a popular tavern. Maybe staff it with the original 7 and only the 7. Maaaaybe a few others in case we need some well-trained 'bouncers' to keep the place safe.
I loved this, the focus on such a little group of people makes each one much more interesting.
I definitely needed this episode to relax today, and not yesterday, so it all works out fine in the end. Thanks for working so hard on keeping us entertained; you're the best Dwarf Fortress content creator on UA-cam imo.

From the intro I got an idea for a two-person fort (maybe one where one of the dwarves is in charge of farming etc. and the other for cooking for extra challenge) where the dwarves are in separate forts or floors so they can never meet. The only way for them to exchange items and such is by having two drop holes where they can drop items for each other. For example their forts could be side-by-side on the same z-level with one end going down one z-level and running under the other fort to make the item exchange zones.

I did like the hermit fortress idea.
I haven't been able to play DF for years, but I do remember trying something similar, having the original 7 dwarves try to set up something like a martial artist monk's retreat.
It survived a few years, but finally ended with an epic last stand on a thin bridge over a deep river gorge, the last martial artist monk falling to his death after slaying quite a few of the invaders.
Just a cozy roadside stop for passing travelers and trade caravans. Delightful.
Having never played myself, I approve of this as an idea of how I would probably start to get used to it. I like nice relaxing places, or as relaxing as you can get in Dwarf Fortress anyway.
That fight between Libash and that Forgotten Beast was super tense. I thought she was gonna die but she turned out to be one heck of a fighter. Thanks for the quality Dwarf Fortress content as usual, Kruggsmash!

I remember you once said you seen an elf who at an entire town population. Like a lot of people.
I fought through my first vile force of darkness, a goblin and some kidnapped dwarves. We took em out but my leaders had to be replaced because the trauma of the fight.

I used to play a ton of tiny forts (up to 10 dorfs) in a small 2x2 map. Mainly for performance reasons but it's a great exercise in learning to play the game, taking things slowly and not getting too overwhelmed.
