  • When I was shopping for a Tube Screamer, I came across this very "under the radar" pedal from the folks at T-Rex. The architecture of this pedal is very much "TS" but it's function and sound is very different.
First, we have the "blend" knob. That's right, you can dial this in more like a regular TS, with the blend at around 12, or hear the full clipping with the blend cranked. Second, we have a choice of three voicings: "Normal" which is flat mids, "Mids" which is more of a typical TS style sound and "Fat" which bumps up the low mids.
I'll be going over the light, medium and cranked tones, as well as using the Diva Drive as a boost. The amp I am using is a 2017 Vox AC15c1 which is loaded with a Celestion Greenback. The microphone is a Shure SM57, placed two inches away from the grill cloth, slightly off-axis.

I have this pedal and I love it. Its so versatile, works with any guitar. I have quite a few other drive pedals, but this one is becoming my favourite. Someone said maybe it's like the Moller, without the boost. I think it must have different components, because I have the Moller 2 as well, played side by side with similar settings the Diva is definitely a different tone, seems more edgy. The mix function is brilliant. Of the two, I prefer Diva drive tones to the Moller 2, but the clean boost on the Moller 2 is awesome. T-Rex pedals are a great choice.

It's my first experience with T-Rex and now I am really interested in trying their Mudhoney pedal. Have you tried that one yet?

@@TheToneLounge Not yet! But it is on my list, for sure. Was thinking my next T-Rex pedal might be a Fat Shuga. I am really enjoying the medium OD sounds you're getting here with the Telecaster. Actually, all of it is great!

Yeah it's a cool pedal. Definitely sounds better than a traditional TS to my ears.

This must be the old, great T-Rex Möller pedal without the clean boost side 🙂👍

I never made that link, but I guess it makes sense. This is my second T-Rex pedal and both are great.

@@TheToneLounge it's an Electro Harmonix I believe. They aren't terribly expensive, I ment to get one but I haven't yet. The videos seem pretty cool tho

@@TheToneLounge oops. It was the soul food I actually had in mind after I went back to listen to it again. They aren't quite the same, but I like both so to me there's a connection with the tone lol . My ears aren't as fine tuned as most peoples..

i love it. but i found the gain after 12oclock too fuzzy, and when use mid boost its get too dark, have to turn the tone knob nearly all the way (but i guess its a TS thing, same with a fulldrive...)
i use the gain and mix around 10oclock and use it as a low gain or boost.
also cool when you put a drive pedal before it, and use the mix know to mix the other pedal in! i think thats the part of it and the is the main reason i keep that in my board!

Yeah, it's got it's limitations for sure, much like a real TS. Thanks for the tips, I'll try and experiment with that.
