Most people like diesel engines, they think there is more power. Not to point this out, but a 4.7L V8 TT diesel used 21.69L/100 and a 5.6L V8 NA tuned petrol used 21.51L/100. The petrol engine is bigger and more power. Next gen land cruiser will be using a V6 TT hybrid petrol engine, diesel fans will need to get use to petrol (unless they all go and buy a full size ute)
@@roystad8916 will you still say that when toyota puts a V6 TT hybrid petrol engine in the land cruiser? I know I will. And also will say, the Y62 patrol's are almost just as reliable, it will get anyone to there destination and home again, just like 200, I hope the next gen to both will be just as good and even better.
How many people got caught out buying the Patrols with the 4cylinder “hand grenade” engines? Most said “never again”. The old 4.2 6 cylinder Nissan Patrol turbo diesels were a Nissan truck engine & driveline & they were what gave Nissan the snowballs chance in hell of competing with 100 series Landcruiser 4.2 turbo diesels. Nissan’s change to the 4cylinder hand Grenade engines just lost them basically their entire Nissan following. It would take a miracle for this new Nissan to wrest back that lost market share now I think. Me, I’ll stick with my F250 7.3 for now, Coz it will pull all 3 of these vehicles backwards through their own exhaust pipes! Heck my wheel nuts take more torque than all 3 of these engines combined can make! 😜😜😂😂👍🇦🇺
@@ianmoone2359 I will agree with you on that, F250 are good utes for offroad and towing. But patrol gone from about 700 sold in 2017, to about 1400 in 2019, which is a big increase. Still will not out do Dodge RAM utes or most utes for that matter, as this is Australia, we invented to ute, and Aussies love their utes... as for me, I want a ute, but it will need an extra row of seats (triple cab), other people as well, so they buy a land cruiser or patrol. The patrol and land cruiser is quite good now, but it will be very interesting to see what the next generation brings. It will be interesting to see if a car manufacturers start making triple cab utes
Hi Guys. Great vid quite suprised by the fuel consumption on the Nissan . However I would love to see another vid with you guys towing 3500kg trailer up the same road with the same vehicles and would almost be certain that the F-Truck will be the overall winner. Hope you guys are willing to accept the challenge and prove me wrong.
Simply proves the land cruiser is overpriced and overrated. Comfort wise the patrol is also more comfortable having fully independent suspension. Toyota gets away with old reputation to charge an arm and a leg for its cars.
I said in 1st video that patrol would be best option but not so much for fuel use but value. Then this come up now that surprised me. Well done in the video.
Basically the Cummins in the Ford is of the same engine family as FPT NEF series engines which are almost universally fitted to Case and New Holland mid range tractors. FPT stands for Fiat Powertrains. Cummins and Fiat/Iveco jointly developed these heavy duty engines. They are superb and very well regarded indeed. Good for at least 15,000 hours/500,000 miles between overhauls.
Can you do a costing on the fuel in each vehicle (and type of fuel ie. Unleaded 91,95, 98 and Diesel Premium etc - Now that would be interesting (great video by the way)
Great test and demonstration of your vans. As an Engineer I'm pedantic. I know this is not a scientific test , good all the same though but the units for torque are Newton-metre (Nm). That's a capital "N" because, like all things in the SI system when a unit is named after a person (i.e. Sir Isaac in this case), it is always capitals. Hope to see an LXV 4.7 in the flesh soon.
Been waiting for this. I have a y62 s4,and Toyota people don't believe you when you tell them your Ltper100. They act so surprised. I'm laughing at them now.

Those with a patrol, have said 10Lt to 13 Lt per 100, just as you get. also have said that they get around 15Lt to 17Lt per 100 when driving in the city, towing goes up to area you said. Local driving at about 13Lt per 100 (give or take a Lt). The land cruiser is often 1 or 2 Lt per 100 higher then the patrol. Do you find the same when doing local driving, to and fro work, etc.?
What is it’s low range usage like? From years of owning cars V8 petrol have always been good on the Hwy / Fwy, but drink like a huge amount off-road in low range. Usually on most longer low range trips the petrol cars have half the range of diesels
It would have been nice to see the purchase price of these 3 vehicles also. Petrol$2/litre diesel $2.40/litre hands down petrol patrol all day everyday..
Like everyone I'm pleasantly surprised with the results. I guess even Patrol owner thought their vehicle was overall better but a little bit thirstier. Also I'd like to see how a 3.0 Audi Q5 with multiple turbos performs, just to know at which point uphill it runs out of gas.
Well well, that result has puffed out my chest as a new S5 Patrol owner. Another reason why the Patrol could be lighter than the LC is the weight of both engines. I would guess the diesel is a fair bit heavier than the petrol. Loving ours.
Wonder of they measure the weight with fuel full, as the land cruiser has the bigger tank, unless the series 5 patrol have a bigger tank in them now I had the series 2
Who goes around towing in serious traffic for prolonged periods of time??... I have no doubt the 62 would use more in start stop traffic both laden and unladen compsred to the 200 but I think we can agree that you wouldn't tow in stop start traffic for long enough periods of time to justify the $20k price gap. What this proves is that petrol technology is bridging the gap and that the 200 diesel is a old tech motor. Euro diesels with less cylinders and displacement make the same or more power with much less fuel usage.
I’m late to the party here, so please excuse - I’ll blame it on UA-cam for not notifying me sooner - but your channel is epic and I’m blown away by the fuel result with the Patrol - and you also make caravans! - The F250s are absolutely awesome and I only wish they were factory fitted for right hand drive as the price after conversion puts them out of reach for mere mortals like myself. I’ve seen one of your other videos where you pull a much bigger caravan comparing the Patrol against Landcruiser with differing result, so maybe there’s a sweet spot for the Patrol in terms of towing capacity and fuel consumption? Anyway, good job! Maybe I’ll come and see you about a spec built caravan with electric motors for additional drive and regen braking with battery pack?
Awesome comparison! You've got a new subscriber here! People are starting to wake up to how good these y62's are they hammer along are comfy as and use the same or less fuel than a 200 series and are $20,000 cheaper the amount of ex 200's owners selling up and buying these is insane and for good reason to. Love your work keep it up.
Wonder how good they are with 3T behind them. I use 15-16L/100 with a 2.8L colorado at 110kms/hr on the pacific highway. So these figures are just awful. Oh, and take note of how many vans are actually being towed by Y62's, oh that's right, sweet FA. Cause like all Nissans, they handle like dogs with a heavy ball weight.
You couldn't even compare a Colorado to one of these for starter to and tow 3 ton with a Colorado it's a recipe for disaster. There's thousands of people towing big boats and caravans with the y62's they handle it great and overtake any 200 series up the hills like there parked. Go and test drive one and you'll see.
@@rossatkinson3160 - update!! the towball penalty has been removed from the series 5 and we see a lot more patrols towing vans now......the secrets out.
How sure are you that when you first filled the patrol it was completely full ? I know with mine, it actually has two tanks which are gravity fed. I can fill mine up until it won’t take any more fuel. Stop wait 20-30 mins by that time the top tank has fed through to then 2nd and I can get more into the top tank, sometimes 10-15 litres

I had a series 2 Y62 Patrol, my family of 6 did a lap around OZ including the cape, towed a Jayco Expanda 21.64.1 (full height van) 3.2 t loaded. Mods were: Pacemaker Headers, 3inch King Brown stainless exhaust, UNI CHIP DYNO TUNED, Bull bar, winch.. 27 litres per hundred so much room in the Patrol even had the Engel in the boot !! Best car I ever owned..
I've been thinking of changing my exhaust basically since l bought my y62 s4 . But I'm concerned about cabin noise when towing. Did it make any difference to power or fuel economy?
@@ACCOD the noise wasn't too bad in the cabin at all, power wise it made a bit of a difference especially after it was re tuned I had a unichip put on it in Cairns and it wasn't until Darwin when I did all the exhaust upgrades but all in all made a huge difference in power over all. There is a Patrol Y62 page on Facebook such is awesome for ideas and upgrades.
I've got a s5 Patrol towing 3.3 ton van and get 16.9 l/ 100km. Also spoken to a few other Y62 owners who have had 200 series in the past They have said that the Y62 is a far better tow vehicle and would never go back to Toyota as a tow vehicle
I was thinking the same thing... fuel lock in the tank... Not sure how this would effect the fuel use or more importantly how it is measured but somone with better understanding may be able to put that to rest
I can leave my y62 overnight after filling it to the top and next morning get another 15 ltrs in it and then do 400km of hwy driving before the guage comes off full.
WOW that was unexpected. Thanks for the fair test you done well. Except for the long wait from episode 1 to 2. Any case looking forward to further challenges. FWIW, I reckon my Touareg would do the same journey and use less than 18 L/100km
The Toyota Landcruiser 200 is detuned from factory by quite a bit, it is tuned for the current drive train/comfort/economy. The power output of this twin turbo V8 Diesel engine can theoretically produce a lot more.
Did it again with kerb and tare weights. You said tare, but on the screen you state kerb for the F truck. Please get these right as I'm sure most people don't understand the difference. For reference of other viewers. Tare is empty vehicle + 10 litres of fuel Kerb is empty vehicle with full fuel.
I have been lc fan untill y62 shows up , that for alot in ME killed even the exterior of LC before overall performance y62@400hp is just the way to go , not perfect but alot better than any LC.
My 2017 VX landcruiser has to drive at 106 kph to match 100 kph on the GPS. I presume that it follows that for every 106 km on the odo you have only done 100 km. For accuracy, this should be accounted for when calculating l/100km surely?
OK, this is not a scientific test but as Nick said, the test loop was measured at 108km (presumably GPS measured), and all three vehicles covered the same course. They didn't need to use the Speedometer nor the Odometer of each vehicle for the L/100km calculations, so any errors there are irrelevant. The only error perhaps is if the tanks didn't properly fill "back up to the brim" due to vapour lock etc. So it is OK for a comparative assessment of the fuel consumption and probably acceptable for absolute consumption as well.
Great review guys. I too was surprised with Nissan fuel consumption.. on seperate top I truly loved the music you added any chance of giving credits here so I can listen elsewhere. Cheers
Ahaha, That reaction of the Aussie was pure gold. The numbers to me aren't that surprising since I'm from Canada (That lives in Aus) and I'm used to these numbers. But, that reaction was hilarious!
Really interesting work, thanks, may I suggest a bit more emphasis on the bottom $ Line $, that's what drives (no pun intended) most people. The very end of the clip where it showed a close up of the fuel bills is whats important. Take into account purchase, running, service, repair, accessory and resale costs and the big picture is revealed.
Ok those are truly remarkable consumption figures for the Patrol. Other recent tests which have no added tow weight but did involve some offload low range were between 22l and 24l per 100K for the Patrol. On the one test where the 200 series was compared directly the Patrol did 24L and the 200 Series did 18.6l/100K. Maybe the constant throttle towing and then the no throttle descent highlighted the differences in the petrol vs diesel "debate" but yes very surprising for the Patrol. I am a Discovery 4 guy so don't have a vested interest :)
I had a thought. My mate has a 2017 patrol and it never fills up first go apparently there is is a smaller tank that the fuel is slow to get into( equalise). Should go back a bit later and fill it again. Maybe it wasn't full. But I am more convinced that petrol simplicity is better . No turbo, ad blue etc...love the video.
If you are so intrested of fuel consumption, by a other car, get a vw or prius. I run my 200 v8 diesel at 1.1L/10km at 100km/h wintertime fully loaded with skibox on the roof.
Brilliant comparison. When towing heavy loads, doing mountain passes or doing motorways at speed, turbo diesels consume almost the same amount of fuel than a petrol engine. Between my G63 AMG and 290GDT there is only about a 1,5km/l difference when towing......
and after the test the patrol was never to be seen again after the wiring was shot after all the work it went through, some say you can now find the same material in new dishwashers.😂

Phil Grant Buying Toyota is buying reliability end of story.
Great comparison very well put together, well presented and thorough 👍
Great job keep it up 😉
Thank you Jono! Stay tuned we have some awesome tests and videos coming very soon!

George Daniels they do build good cars compared to Nissan. The Y62 sets the benchmark now days
Did you forget they supercharged the Nissan? The second they did that standard fuel consumption goes out the window.
Not in this episode ... it’s still factory
That servo would of loved you haha. Owner could almost retire.
What is consumption per 100 k?
@@johnallen5215 Just got back from Cannonvale QLD 2500KM. First day 1000km 13lt per 100
Second day 1000km 11lt per100. Third day 500km 12lt per100. 95- 105kph GPS speed. 4 passengers & loaded up in the back. If I tow 2.5 van or boat your looking at 19to24lt per 100. Depending on the conditions. I.e. wind. Towing speed 95- 100kph GPS.
@@ACCOD I know a few people with patrol's and others with Land cruiser's.
@@johnallen5215 local driving ,14to20per100,depends on whether or not u want to hear that V8 get up and go or not.
Great vid - good comparison - well done. Look forward to the next one.
Love my Y62 Patrol, tows amazingly well and is good on fuel.
Probably the big heavy diesel motor in the Landcruiser which makes it heavier
Great vid. Was looking at the Ram 1500 next. But will have to look at the patrol too
Awesome comparison review 👍definitely love my Toyota's but the new y62 would be my pic over the 200 .
Nice practical review.
Excellent job guys.
Is there any such a comparison of fuel consumption without towing a caravan ?
Well well, that result has puffed out my chest as a new S5 Patrol owner.
Another reason why the Patrol could be lighter than the LC is the weight of both engines. I would guess the diesel is a fair bit heavier than the petrol.
Loving ours.
Wonder of they measure the weight with fuel full, as the land cruiser has the bigger tank, unless the series 5 patrol have a bigger tank in them now I had the series 2
100 extra kw makes a big diference , more than the 90nm torque deficiency.
Great video! Excellent info! Subbed 👌look forward to more content 😁
So the petrol is the king of power, towing, space and value. Now we need a hard-core off road test.
Would really be interesting to see the same test but in serious traffic
Who goes around towing in serious traffic for prolonged periods of time??... I have no doubt the 62 would use more in start stop traffic both laden and unladen compsred to the 200 but I think we can agree that you wouldn't tow in stop start traffic for long enough periods of time to justify the $20k price gap.
What this proves is that petrol technology is bridging the gap and that the 200 diesel is a old tech motor. Euro diesels with less cylinders and displacement make the same or more power with much less fuel usage.
Thanks MV, you cannot beat real and live comparative testing. And I'd like to see more of your vans too.
Not many Y62s out here in central QLD. Mainly 200s and Prado
That's because they're all fools
@@ShedSessionsAus same with them voting too.
I know it wasn't a race but it seems the Y62 would get up there faster. Did you happen to notice that?
Heidi is banned from the pub for not knowing who Shaq is 😱
How sure are you that when you first filled the patrol it was completely full ? I know with mine, it actually has two tanks which are gravity fed. I can fill mine up until it won’t take any more fuel. Stop wait 20-30 mins by that time the top tank has fed through to then 2nd and I can get more into the top tank, sometimes 10-15 litres
can someone confirm if this is true please?
@@marianjavorka7712 I have the new Y62 Series 5 (ie face-lift)... zero issues with filing tank (not sure which series LukeC has). 1000km+ per tank. Avg 13.4/100 for the 5,000km (no towing).

Great Job guys... I have to say that I've owned both vehicles, and I've seen heaps of comparisons on these 2 rigs over the years. Game set match, y62 #1
Great review. Like all 3 and surprised with Nissan's result. Great 4wd
I had a series 2 Y62 Patrol, my family of 6 did a lap around OZ including the cape, towed a Jayco Expanda 21.64.1 (full height van) 3.2 t loaded. Mods were:
Pacemaker Headers, 3inch King Brown stainless exhaust, UNI CHIP DYNO TUNED, Bull bar, winch..

Great vid. Very interesting. Loving the F-truck.
Don't trust your kpl by topping up the tank on the Patrol the people who own one will understand what I'm talking about.

This vid made me buy a y62.👍👍
Please do a fuel comparison without trailer..
You look a bit like Glenn McGrath actually a lot like him
The Toyota Landcruiser 200 is detuned from factory by quite a bit, it is tuned for the current drive train/comfort/economy. The power output of this twin turbo V8 Diesel engine can theoretically produce a lot more.
You mean the dyson
Dyson
And the vk56 is capable of a lot more too....
What pointless point are you trying to make?
Did it again with kerb and tare weights. You said tare, but on the screen you state kerb for the F truck.
Please get these right as I'm sure most people don't understand the difference. For reference of other viewers.
Tare is empty vehicle + 10 litres of fuel
Kerb is empty vehicle with full fuel.
Cheers
Wow that's awesome results didn't expect the patrol to win!!
Thanks for the 2 ND vid great job

Hmmm how did you get a 2020 Patrol on the 7th January when they take 5 weeks to ship over to Australia 7 days from factory ???
Great couple of videos. Entertaining and very well presented.
What was the actual cost difference with the different price for petrol and diesel
Ahaha, That reaction of the Aussie was pure gold. The numbers to me aren't that surprising since I'm from Canada (That lives in Aus) and I'm used to these numbers. But, that reaction was hilarious!
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching :)

Thomas Wackerow plenty of vids on UA-cam
Not a wonder toyota is pulling there V8 out.
How much in $ for petrol vs diesel to fill both tanks? Use 98 petrol?
Ok those are truly remarkable consumption figures for the Patrol. Other recent tests which have no added tow weight but did involve some offload low range were between 22l and 24l per 100K for the Patrol. On the one test where the 200 series was compared directly the Patrol did 24L and the 200 Series did 18.6l/100K. Maybe the constant throttle towing and then the no throttle descent highlighted the differences in the petrol vs diesel "debate" but yes very surprising for the Patrol. I am a Discovery 4 guy so don't have a vested interest :)
Great vid again and probably a little surprising to 200 owners.
I look forward to some more tow comparisons on differing terrain.
Thanks Owen, we took the time to ensure it was completely filled each time properly.
So if you ran 98 the cost of the fuel would have been at least 30 cents per litre more than the diesel if you used the same amount.
Hey Nick, what fuel did you run in the Patrol, 91 or 98? Don't think BP Bright has 95
98. I only know that as they replied in part 1 comments.
@@phety001 Thanks, I've not yet watched part 1
