- We buy a brand new 2020 Nissan Patrol 5.6L V8 and take it to Harrop Engineering in Melbourne to get it SUPERCHARGED!
Follow the journey as we learn about Harrop Engineering history, UNBOXING the Supercharger, Dyno Tests, Installation and then we take it for a drive to get our first impressions!

It all depends how much boost. Personally , I would get supercharge. Less trouble , and more reliable. Turbos fail a lot and burns more oil.
If you buy a vehicle like the y62 or 200 series and your concerned about economy, maybe you'd be better off with a prius or a leaf!!
Almost everyone is interested in consumption. For example, if it is larger, it may indicate a technical problem with the engine.
That's not a smart way to think, it's not about worry but seeing how it compares to fuel efficient vehicles in its class.

When he said your's was the first to have it fitted, I went GULP! These days I never, ever jump in to be first on something new. Been there, done that & it didn't work for me. So I wish you the best of luck.
To be honest, these guys at Harrop Engineering seem really professional with their cool as a cucumber attitude, which is something I always look for before handing over lots of my folding stuff. I like the way you were super excited & their attitudes was 'meh, let's see how it turns out'.
I'm looking forward to more episodes with the Nissan.
There the same engine as the older ones. The only upgrade from the 4 is panels and lights mate. lol

Now that you've done towing tests with the Y62 please do the same loops with the supercharger fitted so patrol owners can see the fuel consumption difference between naturally aspirated Vs supercharged.
We will be doing that one!!
I so want to supercharge my Y62 as well. Its hard to justify not doing it, it makes an amazing car even better.

My 2 cents worth, i have a 2012 landcruiser T/D 200, mate has y62 and another mate 3.2 ranger, did the cape last year, 3 guys, 3 cars, roughly same amount gear, did total about 8500kms (we in Mel) our average l/100 economy for whole trip was, 200 series 11.8 ranger 15.2 and patrol 20.1, so almost double that my truck, yes 200 more expensive to buy, but we do alot of touring, and the $$ i save at the pump is very very quickly adding up!
What are the chances that supercharger kit fitting the VK56 on the Infiniti M56 sedan?

What needs to be done to the rest of the drive-train to cope with the extra power? And if you did exhaust and some other mods, what do Harrop think you'd get out of it?
Defiantly will need an exhaust and retune.. all good to get the wind in it but ya gotta be able too get it out too

Great video! Very informative! .. just curious did you feel any change in cruise control based behavior while on a steady and long climb? During the downshifts did you feel the sudden power surge or the revs matched smoothly to the set speed (based on new power and torque figures)?
Now time to install a full exhaust & headers on this beast. Let that 5.6L breathe

I am making no further comments on this topic as the original post was about power and torque. People are now making extra comments regarding costs, seats reliabilty etc. For your knowledge the 4.4 tdv8 is highly reliable.

Nissan never really continued Patrol but gave the more bulkier Armada a badge change labelling it as Patrol.
Snorkel, BP-51 suspension and then bull bar/sliders

Fuel consumption is very important especially if you are going to a remote area.
I definitely want one of these now before I wanted the Landcruiser Sahara but that cost around $120K plus on road cost and the top spec Patrol is around $91K that’s a bargain I could get the supercharger kit fitted on and still have plenty of change left over. By the way how much is a Harrop supercharger kit cost ? And does it void the car warranty to fit a supercharger kit on it?
Totally agree with you regarding diesels and running costs. Contemplating myself at the moment between tdv8 and supercharged petrol.

It takes approximately 300,000km for the patrol in the difference in fuel economy to price match the same spec lc200 then you have the higher servicing cost of the diesel to consider on top of that.

Good review. Does a proper offroad towing a caravan review. Not like some other reviews where the put the diff locks on, low range and drive up hill i could get up in a wheel chair and they say wow this thing is brilliant offroad. Well done👍

You could use the engine cover when you get stuck in the mud, eg - run it over. Or engine cover vs max tracks.

The kit is about 11k then I would allow 4k for installation and tuning.

Ben jamin I’ve been searching the net to confirm your opinion but besides some minor recalls the RAM trucks seem to be one of America’s biggest sellers. If they’re really a bag of lemons as you say, why are people buying them? Here in Australia they are selling reasonably well, especially the 1500 versions.

@@Ben-hi5lr 69k for a S5 Ti or 157k for a "new look" MY19 Ram 2500. The engine is a ripper but the gearboxes have been known to fail and other manufacturers faults are quite common in the pre 2019 models...

I believe that there are two capacity superchargers if so which one was it?. What's the price?. No snorkle so I assume original air box? What's doin with the engine warranty via Nissan? . Have you ever run 95 octane E10 fuel? If so what was it like? . What's the exhaust package? is it extractors and 3 inch system and price? .oh the radiator what was that for?

Defo see if manta exhausts could jump on board for a full exhaust. Quality aussie made exhausts.
Should do a price comparison with 200series. Eg purchase prices, modifiying y62 modifiying 200. See what one is bang for buck.

I believe your before and after comparison maybe incorrect. I looks like you are comparing the Nissan quoted engine output (before) with the after - at the wheels.

the SUPERCHARGED increases the amount of air going into the cylinders, not the fuel and this thanks to the air compressor they added. They did not touch the car's control unit.this means that fuel consumption is the same

How much $$ to add the supercharger?
Are those after numbers from the dyno or calculated? Because you have stock figures at the end but not the before numbers from the dyno you measured. A little confusing.
Troyus the completed numbers are from the final dyno run.
