Boy can't wait to see the build on this engine. If fresh fuel injectors don't improve things like starting for my Super 77 diesel then this is the next step along with a new clutch which I know for sure is tired.

That ha to be the earliest example of a 4240 I have ever seen. It's hard to say with a black and white photo, but on that single sheet of literature from 54, I'd say the wheels are red. That would make sense if it was introduced before the Super series came out.

It’s kinda like the 107 rake. There were a few of those that snuck out with red wheels as well.

I think a certain new youtuber has a red wheeeled 107.

Roxors are super fun. Me and my buddy cruised around Renner’s 100 years of horsepower in his. What sucks about them though is that they’re not geared very well for going that slow

I have never seen one before going to the show. It looks like it would be super fun

Dang you know a thing or 2 about plows and farm equipment . I would like to have a 3 bottom plow for my M if I could find a deal on one . I was trying to get my 2 bottom lined out the other day after sitting in the woods for 15 years I bet now (It wasn't woods when I parked it there lol ) . I couldn't get it adjusted right I don't know if it was too wet or too much corn trash but the back plow wasn't digging in . I'm trying to get stuff lined out to plant 2 acres of corn this year for the deer and raccoons lol . I think I heard you call it a cumbine instead of a combine lol . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !

Usually you can find two bottom ones for next to nothing but if you try to find a three bottom they bring gold price.

Speaking of plows, I got a video of an overview of that Oliver 109 plow I was talking about previously.

WOW! Now I'm wondering what's what on the plow. It would also be interesting, you working on other tractors. Always keeping us guessing Ross. Stay Safe and God Bless 👍👏👋🇺🇲

You and Chris got pretty good competition(collection) going on plows. He did a video yr or 2 ago on all his.

Another thought, I've never seen a farmer "cobbled" modification that had neat smooth edges to the parts like yours has. Farmers would have used a torch to cut metal pieces to shape. I didn't see any edges that were torch cut on your plow. That leads me to think your parts were manufactured and not "blacksmithed" as a farmer or small repair shop of the era would have done.

I know, it looks too good to be a homemade repair of the time period. Someday when I get some time I’ll start messing with it again.

Do you have any idea how long the 4340 was in production. I have 3 here. All have cockshutt decals, 2 green one red. So they would've had to at least been around for the merger.
    Always enjoy the videos. Thanks.

A long time. The basic truss frame design came out in like 54 and was still around as a 3 pt plow in the 70’s

Just a thought, could Oliver have offered a dealer installed conversion package to convert a mechanical lift plow they had in inventory to hydrulic lift? Seems likely to me as the best way to adapt existing mechanical plows to the modern hydraulic lift.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Рік тому +1

That’s very possible, I have never noticed it in the parts books but I’m sure that they knew which pieces it would take and if you went into the dealer they could set you up

@@rosstheoliverman Back in 1950's, my dad had a 3 bottom pull-type plow that had a hydraulic cylinder kit package that converted it from the original manual lift system. It was an old IH plow and the bright red paint of the conversion package stood out to me as a boy. The rest of the plow had no paint left. My dad also had a 2 bottom plow that used a rope to trip the lifting mechanism that was driven off one of the rubber tired wheels. I think those plows also used a clevis to hook to the tractor and a heavy springed hook on the plow hitch would trip and release if you hit an obstruction like a rock or stump.

I would assume somehow they used half of the mechanical lift part to the hub on the outside of the rim. I have a mechanical lift of the same age but I don't have pictures of it. I will have to dig through my parts book as I think I have some plow parts manuals for the plows but I don't know if I have one of that age. We have an early 4240 2 bottom and late 3 bottom both have mechanical lift so I have examples of both. The round hitch adjustment and tail wheel look similar to the early 2 bottom we have. I don't know about the hydraulic lift. Maybe someone cobbled something up to convert it.

That’s kind of what I think too. I think somebody got in a hurry and just reassembled the thing to get it to roll. It definitely needs sorted out the correct way.
