I can agree. At the age of 61 years young, I have been going to concerts since the late 70's, experienced the GratefulDead early 80's and a faithful grateful DeadHead I evolved. Anyway this venue BLOWS MY MIND. Spectacular. It reminded me of experiencing substances that illegal then are now therapy at their concerts and again evolved. The ticket price is my only unpleasant thought.
those Vegas felony shows back in the 80's and 90's was never to be matched in Vegas, but the Sphere is a beast, U2 could not tame the venue, great visuals, who will tame that venue is still a unknown and looking forward to the Journey
@@dylangoode9393Did you buy paper tickets outside the show (do those even exist anymore LOL) or did you find them online while you were there? Heading there next weekend. We're getting there late Thursday night and I have tickets for Saturday. 404 row 17, Will NEED Tix for Fri too... Hoping to find something down a little lower. Either the 200s of front of 300s..
I also grew up in the 1980’s, was into Maiden, Zeppelin, etc.. thought the dead sucked, then I saw them live in 87…changed my life. Deadhead for life!!!!
You and me both. You got there earlier than I. I know people will say I missed out but I started in 92. Changed my life. I became kind. Connected to the earth and the sky and the inspiration was the Grateful Dead and also quit taking guitar lessons and played along to my tapes 2 sets a day. Different show every day. Rethought music. Then could pick and guitar, bass or drum to most genres. All because of this band. I only saw Jerry 30 times. But it’s been a game changer. And I’ve spoken and been encouraged by everyone here to try and overcome some serious health issues to come out and see this run. Gonna be tough. But I appreciate the love. It’s contagious🌹⚡️⚡️
Things happened different for me, Even though I began as a metal head & listened to all the same bands & music you mentioned. I then began to research about Jerry and the band ,& the more that I learned The more intrigued I became. But once I really gave them a real chance and listened to an entire show, I was forever stricken... From that day on I became a life long dead head. Still just very day I am blown away. Blown away by their super extensive catalog and individual talents... Not to mention their incredible cohesiveness
@@juniorthe3rdjuniorthe3rd sorry to hear of you fighting illness, should I have to be on the side of your other friends, if the dead truly means that much to you & affected your life in such a profound way. Which I fully believe and Feel the same way. I fully believe that you taking part in this run May very well just become that secret pill for you. You never know, happiness and fun can make a massive difference in our well-being. Of course this is me saying this from the outside, I don't know what you're fighting. But this I know: a spiritual connection with a group and Music can Make all the difference in the world when one's spirit or health is down.... I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope you get to see this run in person
Ha ha !! I was born in '69 , and coming into my teenage years in the 80's found the Dead's " Europe '72 Live " double album on vinyl at a yard sale and wore the grooves off it... I was already in love. Made my first pilgrimage to see them live , driving from Cape Cod off the coast of Mass. to what have now become the legendary shows at the Alpine Music Ampitheater in Wisconsin in '89 that they made the video " Downhill From Here " about. One of Jerry's finest performances in the later stages of the Brent Mydland era.. Mind blown and it was then that I realized what I was seeing was a truly one of a kind unicorn and vowed I would take this experience in every time I had the chance ... 160 + times later and only wish it was more.... bless you bro
I went this past Saturday night and have been a loyal dead head since I was a teen. I will be 61 in 2 weeks and retired. This complex ( the sphere) is the greatest experience I have ever been fortunate to witness. To see your favorite jam band ,that one has been a fan for so long is mind blowing! Graphics , acoustics , shape, everything was beyond what you can imagine. No video is going to give you the sensory overload you witness inside during this Dead performance. A must see for ANY music fan period. Regardless of your favorite genre or performer: Go see Dead and company !
I was in Vegas for a meeting last week. Like others, I'll be 61 soon an have been a fan for over 40 years. I was able to score a great ticket for just above $100. I went completely sober and stayed sober and had one of the best times I've ever had at a concert. The Sphere is out of this world. Thanks for your excellent review.
John Mayer was sitting in for a late-night TV host and Bob Weir, who was touring (post-Jerry's death) with his new band, was the musical guest. John Mayer sat in during the credits and left us with a beautiful Althea between him and Bobby. This was the origin of what is now Dead & Co. There were other groups with the original members (Phil Lesh, the bassist, still tours with his own band), and this has been the only line-up for Dead & Co. Thank you for your views on this! So glad you had a good time!
I don't normally agree but you did a fine assessment of the whole Dead/Sphere experience. The Jerry thing I totally agree with and that is why the comment. I'm 71 and saw the Dead many many times with Garcia. To not give more kudos to him is a shame. After Jerry's passing I saw the band only a handful of times. Jerry Garcia a was huge part of the Grateful Dead and can't be replaced. But the Dead culture lives on, perhaps it's part of our DNA to celebrate time gone past. You can't forget Pigpen, Keith, and Brent...
I’m with you brother. Absolutely all need to be honored. Jerry was the Dead for me too. I’m Grateful they are still spreading the love as it needs to be spread. I am trying to get out there with my rusted old body. May be the place they Lay Me Down but I’m Truckin.
Just saw them this past weekend, it was my first Dead show and it was by far the best concert I’ve ever seen. The sphere is seriously no joke. However, some of the incredible Deadheads around me told me that there are hidden Jerry’s in all the visuals, and at least for me everything about this show is a tribute for Jerry and his legacy. No need to AI/Hologram him, he lives in the music, his symbolism is ingrained in every scene. Again I can only speak for me but I felt his energy the whole concert.
I went to all 3 shows the weekend of June 6-8 & it blew my mind! They played everything I wanted, plus “looks like rain” which has been my favorite song since I was 15! It felt so magical. 2 weeks later and I’m still feeling a certain way. Looking to go back in August. If you can go, fan or not, do it! And Mayer played the best “Sugaree” I’ve heard so far from dead & company. I can’t even put into words how amazing the sound & visuals are. And yeah it would have been cool to have a Jerry playing for a song or something. I give my experience 11/10
The members , the songbook, the community. It always was and still is a vessel. A vessel that has transported and continues to transport many of us all to that space of joy, of memories and contemplation ,of celebration, dance and often times soul touching emotion. The graphics depict those vessel adventures in a wonderfully creative style. I would expect no less. May the Music never Stop.
I'm a major Deadhead.... the opening weekend shows were MIND blowing... the MUSIC, the scene, the graphics.... all of it. Love the non-fan review, thanks!
I appreciate your honesty and being a cool understanding, dude. Most people look down on jam band fans. Thank you for sharing the ins and outs of the sphere.
Happy to help and share and I don't know why people would be so negative against jam bands and their fans. Deadheads are the happiest group of people I've ever seen. Must be jealousy
In my opinion, the reason we are all still listening to the deads music is because of the amazing collection of songs and, for myself, Robert Hunters' lyrics. Obviously, we all love Jerry, but the songs possess a unique enduring quality.
This makes me very happy. I was fortunate enough to see the Dead 5 times in the early 90's. I think about those shows often. Finally at a place in my life where I feel like I can indulge in this kind of trip once again. Thank you for the video.
I have no idea why they didn't memorialize Jerry, but my gut says that it was the right thing. The memorial was the Fare Thee Well concerts. Nobody in the Dead culture needs a memorial to him, we know what he was and he's in our hearts. The true memorial to Jerry is in the music. Thats what he created in part, inspired otherwise, wrote, visualized and revisualized over and over, show after show. That it still exists as a living thing and is still being revisualized show after show is his true legacy and memorial. In my opinion Dead and Company with Mayer stepping in and adding to it are as close to his spirit as things might have evolved and may have been if was still here. They certainly have creditably, innovative and respectfully continued to reimagine the Dead legacy. Another point is that the Dead was never just Jerry and he never, I'm sure, saw it that way. There were so many people who were either part of the band, passed through or passed away who made major contributions that guided Jerry and the other members through thematic and stylistic evolutions. The thing's too big, and thankfully, still living to try to pigeonhole to one individual. That said, after Jerry bounced the spotlight from his Strat onto my face following me as a bit as I moved, I can say, and I know it’s an irationality that he was a minor deity. For sure!
They have many photos of jerry and grateful dead band members AND couple tributes to the original band the haight and a few of the iconic venues Jerry play GD Both in sphere graphics and at the “forever dead experience” at The Venetian Check my channel for videos from a forever dead fan
Well said, if you watch Jerry interviews, you get the impression that he definitely would not want the legacy of the Grateful Dead to be a memorial to him, it’s all about the now man , lol
They show Jerry in the graphics ocassionally and it for sure gets a rise out of the audience always. it's more about being here and now with this band I think.
Right, I would say we or I listen to Jerry’s playing every day , with all the live concerts , dicks picks on Apple Music , Jerry’s still the focus , but dead and company has been doing this thing since what 2015
I like how you said the graphics won you over on the music. I think for Deadheads, we always “saw” and “felt” the music. Acid and mushrooms definitely aided that back in the day, but even without that, the memories and sounds from shows became our own private movies that touched our hearts all the years we were on the bus. God bless you for the review✌️🙏
that seems to be a common comment i am seeing.. deadheads always brought their own "graphics" lol thanks for listening, i appreciate it - hope you consider subscribing!
My cousin came to Vegas from Arizona over the long weekend, for this residency. They got a 3 concert package, and loved it. I didn't go... I thought they didn't sell single show tickets, without getting a hotel room...
Thanks Joe, I want to make one of these shows so badly. We'll see. First show OKC Nov. 1972. "Once in a while, you get shown the light In the strangest of places if you look at it right"
Thank you for this review! We are local and my husband is a dead head. We saw the very last performance of U2 and were BLOWN AWAY! So when the dead was announced it was a non negotiable we had to go. We go on June 1st. Although like you I like the dead I’m not a dead head. I knew the show would be good after seeing U2 there BUT Based on your review I’m now super stoked to go!
I just want to make a comment about your points about how little the band didn’t have Jerry Garcia plastered all over the screens Deadheads know that every Garcia song they play is honoring Jerry and his legacy John Mayer is doing a fantastic job playing Jerry’s music but in his own style!!
You did an excellent job reviewing the experience. Like an old head yet with the innocence of a child. Perfect and as far as graphics Candace bright man Dan Healy Owsley were always ahead of the curve with lights and sound quality they take it very seriously always have always will be. Decades ahead of all other mediums and bands. So no surprise there wouldn’t expect anything less than your description. Well done
Fun fact: the grateful dead was the first band to incorporate a light show into their concerts. Pretty sure they were also the first to use computer-controlled lighting as well. No surprise that they would have awesome visuals. Long time deadhead, looking forward to two shows in June.
My feeling is that Dead and Company are ongoing; forward looking with a nod to the past. On the Haight Ashbury push in I’ve seen on UA-cam shows PigPens cowboy hat; If you know what to look for; it’s there. I go next week! Great review!
Touch of grey did not come out years after Jerry passed, they were actually playing that song at shows at least 5 years before it came out in 1987 on the album in the dark, and then Jerry died in 1995
Excellent good to know info. I am looking forward to seeing the show in July, seems like such a long way away with so much happening. Hope they have enough Merch to last thru to the end. This is going to be so epic, glad the Dead & Co were able to jump on this bus to give us this forever experience - like we needed another one ;-) I was hoping for more Jerry, but for whatever reason guess were staying with the Now.
You're going to love it happy to help thank you for listening. Who knows maybe they're going to listen to some of the fan feedback and add some more Jerry as the shows progress
This was cool to hear. I guess it popped up as a video to watch as I watch and listen to so many dead shows. I toured with the Dead off and on from 1985 till just before Jerry’s death. I saw them a few nights earlier and was devastated with Jerry’s death. I’ve listened and paid attention from afar to the Dead and Co deal and just haven’t had the ability to get involved again. I didn’t even know about this recent revival and shows at the sphere. I won’t make any of these as it’s not possible but thanks to this review I’m going to keep an eye out and see if they decide to play another stint in the upcoming months. If so, I’m in and will give me that opportunity to get my wife involved(non dead head) and get a chance to get back to Vegas and experience the Sphere
Perfectly stated. I’ve been a Deadhead since 1992. Loved em from the first time I saw and felt them and this was next level. I love Jerry with all my heart as do the guys on stage. He’s smiling on us all right now.
I was there Opening night and night 2. Was absolutely incredible experience. You are a fool not to get out there for it. No video review will give it true justice. Been a fan for a long time at 58 YO. I personally don’t understand the diehard Jerry fans that refuse to go. I have some great friends that way and I respect them but this lineup is keeping some great music and a scene going. True they are making lots of money but they should. Mayer is so dialed in to blues and jams he is very talented. Even with slow Bob dropping the tempo a bit it’s still a great experience.
I went out there with the wife intent on going to opening night. Was so good went back night 2. I wanted to see if the graphics were the same. Wish I had the time to stay for the 3rd show opening weekend. Hoping I can get out for one or two more.
@@elb2698 we all have opinions and although I don’t agree with your opinion, I certainly have to respect it. Music is extremely subjective and if it doesn’t move you anymore, then it doesn’t. Still a lot of hip people making the scene.
@RoyRamone955 so you don't hear the incessant chatter and din from the audience? It is typical of live music these days and not subjective at all. Just facts. Rude people don't shut up when the music is playjng
It took the visuals for you to "get it". Back in the day and this coming from a 73 yo guy whose first show was "69 at the Carousel Ballroom along with the light show we brought our own graphics, it was called LSD.
I was too young for the early daze. But been reminding folks this is the modern incarnation of the Acid Tests with visuals all over the ceiling and walls. And the modern version of the Wall of Sound. And yeah, it's the visuals we all had in our heads come to life.
The. Coyle lighting crew and the band know there are many fans on Psychedelics and visuals are always a part of the show- this being the ultimate presentation for fans :)
Joe I wanted to say thank you for the inspiration. I’ll be at all 3 shows next week. So excited. I didn’t think this would happen. I’m doing it by myself. Gonna be a blast. It all began with the nudge from you and those that commented on here. I’m going. Have great seats. So excited.
@@JoeInVegasReviewsI’m so excited. Permagrin going on these days. Gonna be a blast. Thank you for the nudge. I needed it. About to go work out so that. Im prepared physically.
Incarnations of the band POST Jerry The Other Ones: Bruce Hornsby Steve Kimock Mark Karan Dave Ellis John Molo roles as co-lead guitarists. In 2002 an Other Ones line-up of Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart toured the United States with guitarist Jimmy Herring, keyboardists Jeff Chimenti and Rob Barraco, and vocalist Susan Tedeschi The Dead: Warren Haynes Joan Osborne replacing Susan Tedeschi on backing vocals Furthur: John Kadlecik steps in in jerry's spot Joe Russo and Jay Lane on Drums Dead & Company: John Mayer & Oteil Burbridge
So the reasoning that Jerry isn’t put on the screen in overload is because a lot of old heads would have seen as disrespectful. I would feel that way. By the way great review. I like that you were somewhat unfamiliar. They turned the place into venues like Red Rocks and Cornell. You get it. The iconic shows. Congrats that you got it. This would have been a 10. I’m in Georgia. Struggle to walk but wife and I are considering making it happen. Somehow someway. I’ve seen a lot from friends and want to go. I haven’t worked since 2017 and she’s a teacher and though we used to come to the Venetian when I was successfully running a business world wide putting a kids through college etc we have to be fiscally responsible. We had backstage for their 50 years anniversary which was 3 nights in Chicago and had people offer us $50k for the 2 tix X 3 nights plus room and we turned them down. The band meant that much more but more than 30 procedures on my back and mostly living in a bed so it’s hard to get out but we wanna try. We are 4everGrateful either way. Take care brother. ⚡️⚡️🌹
I was at all 3 Chicago shows. What an incredible experience. You have to make it for one show. You can do it. The long strange trip isn’t over yet brother. Don’t regret not going.
@@JoeInVegasReviewsno problem. It seems so magical. We really want to come out. The last time we really travelled for shows it was a medical nightmare for me. I hate that my wife has turned into a caretaker. We still may try. It’s hard when you travel somewhere and have to stay in a bed And miss the shows you have flown across the country to see. It crushes me seeing her be a caretaker to me. We still may try. And thank you again for posting this. It blows me away. The motorcycle reminds me of the Grateful Dead Movie from 1974 with the cartoon during Beat it on down the line and The Wheel. Something we used to trip to while in our senior year of high school and then college. It will have to be a last second call.
Dead and Company was formed in 2015, which is 20 years after Jerry died. Dead and Co has always been what the current lineup is minus original drummer Bill Kreutzmann, who left lest year.
@@floydawaight49 Harrisburg '84...People weren't sure of the name when they played TOG. Remember my buddy who been at shows since '74 said to me as we chomped shrtom caps. What a wonderful show!
Was at that show; drove down from Kingston ON (was my 6th show; at the time they were playing smaller arenas like Syracuse, Albany, Cornell, and Buffalo) in a VW camper borrowed from a friend. Great show, was a blast down in the open GA floor area. We, for whatever reason, stopped at a hotel lodge well after the show. The two drummers (Bill and Mikey) were in the bar (Placid is a small town!) and we had a moment talking with them. Grabbed some firewood from the lodge on our way out, camped in the woods, swam in a freezing river in the morning and blurry eyed had a great day checking out the ski jumps etc. 40 years ago, but one on my fond memories from University days. The Sphere show would be amazing in a different way, but would never recapture the small fringe atmosphere of that Lake Placid show.
I was a metal head myself. Knew they were good musicians, but I went to trip, smoke, and check out the scene. That was Fall 88' in Miami. Went on tour from 89'-91', and whenever I could, until Vermont 95'. This reviewer needed to take the acid test, especially first show, years ago. Trip balls, don't get drunk. You'd have been a fan, especially of the music. Once you get the music, it's extraordinary! Graphics cool. Music is better. YOU NEEDED THE LSD! Thanks for the review, brother!👍💯✌️
Joe thanks for your post. To describe the Dead in words is ultimately futile, but I will try. They are an entity that until witnessed live the magnitude of their impact cannot be understood. So one show is required and this why most fans have seen multiple if not double or triple digit numbers of shows. With Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead became the most compelling band ever to see and the numbers back this up. I've personally seen the Grateful Dead over 30 times since 1983 and this pales to many who have seen the band 100, 200 times and more. The Grateful Dead is a consciousness more than they are a band. Enjoy!!
@@JoeInVegasReviews yeah, emphasis on listening. Since I'm going the last weekend of the run, didn't want too many visual spoilers. D&C said there would be many repeats, so hoping to keep them somewhat unknown. To that point, my only wish was to have your voiceover available as a shareable podcast to pass around amongst friends.
I used to go to shows in the 90's and I always thought it was amazing how these girls could just spin in circles for hours. I used to think 30 bucks was alot for a ticket.
People need to appreciate the renditions and love all of the cover bands and tribute bands bring. I love gd every era, but i like Dead and Co's appoach for different reasons. I love Oteil's passion and voice on Jerry songs, Jeff may be my fav keyboard player of all eras and i love Keith and Brent, John does his own thing and i think while a bit annoying in sime songs his voice is actually perfect for some Jerry tunes. Bobby's voice has changed, but not in a bad way
@@earthsucks9555 Maybe it was too slow when Bill Kreutzman was still playing but D&C with Jay Lane on the drums definitely makes for faster tempos. Forever love Kreutzman but Jay can drive the pace and keep it faster throughout the song and set! (Lane has also played in the band Primus!)
Thanks so much for posting - I'm an old dead head too like many of the commenters and it has convinced me to check it. Saw the GD probably 50 times (72-93) and D&Co six or seven and also the Friday night in the Chicago of the farewell show 2015 - kicking off with Box of Rain which blew everyone away. Unforgettable. So now I need to get out to the sphere - and I so much appreciate Joe's "honest" review - may be you should run for office Joe, we could use a little honesty in our politics these days. Hey Now!
Only three reasons to go to LV for me. Experiences like the Sphere. Went to U2, Phish and haver a three night stand for D&C. No where in the world can you sample almost all of the great cuisines as you can in LV. And though it's not my thing, I guess if you like to shop, again almost all the shopping you could imagine. So for me it's the food and the Sphere (ok yea I did go to the F1 race).
Great review! I've been a Dead Head for 35 years and I think you did an excellent job reviewing the concert without being insulting. I really appreciate the feedback on your experience and tips on where to sit. This is definitely a bucket 🪣 list show for any Dead fan! 🤙⚡️⚘️💀
I CAN'T WAIT! I was born the same year as the grateful dead, 1965. Discovered them as a 12-13yr old in 77-78 while learning to play guitar, saw my first of 70+ shows in 1980 -95, seen most every version of post Jerry dead when it was convenient. They were all good enough, not exactly the same but good enough.. I've been seeing clips of the sphere show and they look and sound like phenomenal shows! Was really wanting to go to get out there but hadn't made any plans to do so. Yesterday my wife dropped it on me, she booked plane tix, 4 nights at Treasure Island, and tix for Saturday Sat 6/1 w/o telling me and were leaving next Thursday night! I am jacked for it, somehow, like the old days.. now i need to find tix fpr friday and i need to know where the shakedown scene will be so i can run itno that fun-gi for the first time in... Idk.. a decade?? Hope to see you there brothers and sisters! Enjoyed your review by the way. Loved to hear your perspective.
Ugh, I saw U2 and was blown away. Looked into going back out for the Dead, but a Hawaii trip in June makes it nearly impossible. Now I'm pissed that I'm going to miss it. Oh well, I hope they circle back there.
Dead and co is relatively new version of the band. They have done soooo many versions to memorialize Jerry. This version still included many past members and locations.
I went for four nights and I went on Jerry’s birthday and they did have one visual with a coloring book screen and Jerry was in the left corner strumming his guitar! Not sure if they did it for other nights. They also had haptics in the seats during drums and space where the entire arena was vibrating with the music it was awesome
Awesome review. I went too the last two shows August 9th and 10th and I know the weekend before was Jerrys birthday and the 9th was his death anniversary; they did have alot of jerry graphics during the shows I went too, and some graphics were similiar but there were also many different graphics. You nailed the whole takeoff from SF into space, and then landing back into SF - that was definitly what was happening. Dear god, I hope they do another residency. 60th anniversay grateful dead 2025 would be lovely but unlkely.
250 ? That’s two weeks of groceries for me and my old lady, back when Jerry was around 27.50 was not going to put much of a dent in my grocery bill for one week. Seems like yet another money grift, my friend saw the stones in Vegas recently, 900 a ticket. Nostalgia is a heck of a racket. I’m in SoCal but don’t think I’m going to Vegas. To many fellas and lovely ladies for me. I did catch the dead at the Aladdin in 81. That was blast. The sphere looks pretty amazing.
@@TonyBosca I didn’t start seeing the dead until 1989 7.50 for a ticket 27 was the 1995 price with Garcia dropping a Duce in his pants during wharf rat ,still better than dead $ company. You graduated from public school there Bosca? Hey enjoy the show and keep that Amazon monkey off your back, it’s bad for the country.
I agree. Sort of a "beating a dead horse," how many times do you do it before the stench of greed is too much to handle. They should ask themselves "what would Jerry do?"
Hey Joe, I was in Monterey at Laguna Seca Raceway in 1987 where they filmed Touch of Grey. The fog in the video was actual fog that rolled in that night from the coastline. I liked your honest review and appreciate your enthusiasm. What did you use to film this?
Wow that's pretty cool, thanks for sharing and thanks for listening. Hope you consider subscribing :-) the link to the camera I used is in the description
I've been seeing The Grateful Dead since 1971! Watched on UA-cam the videos of the concerts & it has reached the highest level now at The Sphere. I want to go so bad, but the cost for me is expensive.
I'm not a Beer Drinker so honestly I did not look at which beers they had but they had the regular beers at the concession and then there is a full high-end bar on the 3rd floor. So I'm pretty sure if they don't have the beers you're looking for at the concession you'll find it at that 3rd floor bar I think it was called the curved bar or something like that. I don't know how much they cost but I can tell you now it's going to be really expensive LOL you might have to sell a kidney before you come to save up for beer money
Some of the 19:15 added shows in August fall in the “Days Between” - Jerry’s birthday, Aug. 1, and the day he died, Aug. 9. I would expect Jerry tributes in those shows.
@b.a.boarding6053 when you dose at the Dead shows the spirits come out, the magic starts to happen, it's in the Air. That doesn't happen at the other ...whoever shows...so
Thanks Joe. Great review. I saw GD with Jerry 197 times. Your commentary on post-GD bands is incorrect. The time-line post GD: furtur fest, other ones, the dead, furthur (band), dead & company. Mayer never played as a guest with any of those bands. He first played with Bob and the boys as a founding member of D&Co. Mayer was never a guest. I'm going to Sphere June 7 and 8 for my birthday. I live in Bay Area, but man you have access to an amazing number of shows in LV. I was so impressed with your respectful review that I subscribed. As Jerry sings: "Never had such a good time in my life before." You going to more Sphere on this run? I'll buy you a couple of Jack and Cokes! 😄
Awesome. Yes.. Vegas is an amazing place to live for live music. That's why I started the channel to share and document all these amazing shows I goto. Hope u consider subscribing. And thanks on the drink offer.. It's just a jack on the rocks for me.. No coke lol I'm sure I will go again... How can I not??
. there have been MANY musical variations after Jerry died. The Other Ones in 1998 was the first post Jerry band which were the remaining members together. (they also had their own bands they each put together Bob Weir & Wolf Bros.,Billy & the Kids, BK3, 7 Walkers (with Papa Mali), Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Ratdog,) the members then toured as The Dead, then Further, they reformed solo bands , Rhythm Devils, Then Fare Thee Well celebrating 50 years with all original members , THEN Dead and Co as the last iteration... Touch of Grey was mid 80s and Jerry died in 1995 . The music lives on forever . the Grateful Dead allowing their fans to record their shows is the greatest gift they could have ever given the world so that their legacy is far greater than all others. why they have songs the music never stops, it was all about the music and movie with the same title. they have never played the same show twice in almost 60 years. This is why and what makes these guys the greatest gift of music IMO. I
Man did you hit the nail on the head... Although I so hope there is something left of an entertaining traveling group. As much as I want Bobby and the boys to retire and enjoy their time in the limelight. I missed r St Louis show of (dead & company) this past year due to a terrible accident I was in and it affects me to this day. I think of it almost daily. Missing the show that is. I was so pumped and had been for many months. Anyway enough of my rambling, I just want to be able to enjoy whatever iteration that might pop up , that I could afford, in person just once! I so feel like I missed out I've been a dead head & super fan for many years and never got to see them together/live in any iteration
Howdy, I started with punk and metal also. I started seeing the Dead in 87. I went through a period when I essentially rejected metal. Now, I love it again and find it to be some of the most creative music being made today. I am a proud Metal loving Dead freak.
Mayer was introduced during the late show for Althea :: The dead -after Jerry was Warren Haynes Furthur was Phil and Bobby Dead and co is bill, Mickey & Bobby.
Seen U2 at the Sphere several times. Even seats on the 4th level, the seats are decent compared to having bad seats at an arena show because of the shape of the arena. Also, being on the floor is amazing. Even though you don't see the entire screen, the effects from the graphics are intense.
There is no smoking once you enter, and no re-entry. There are sneaky ways around this, but I'm just saying. 3rd level is the spot. I was section 308, and vertically it is the center of the screen, though a little to the left of center (tickets were the cheapest available on stub hub). Stage was a bit far, but I could tell who was who. John is playing perfectly to Jerry's style
I jumped on the bus in 1987. I still can not get enough. I appreciate your review because I was wondering what it would be like. Nope, you didn't sound like an asshole lol. Welcome aboard, Deadhead!
I mean, not just Jerry. But Pigpen, Keith, Brent, and Vince too. Everyone never includes all the keyboard players who have died. The band was not just Jerry. Speaking of that, I think maybe they are just trying to keep the music playing and keep moving forward. Not living in the past. But what do I know? Just my thoughts. Sorry if that came off dickish. I just think it would be kind of cheesy/too obvious or in peoples faces to plaster Jerry all over the place. He's there. He is definitely a part of the experience in some other worldly way we don't fully understand. His presence will never leave as long as the music never stops
The cartoon you are referring to (Skeleton on a chopper etc...) is a "permuation of the animation" used in the in the intro to original "Grateful Dead Movie".
The motorcycle-riding, skeleton character is adorned with patriotic, "Uncle Sam" type of clothing...thus, affectionately known as "Motorcycle Sam". For more fun with Sam, watch the first 5min. of Jerry Garcia's mid-70's passion project and labor of love, "The Grateful Dead Movie".
I feel like I need to respond to your statement that all of the Dead's songs kinda sound the same. I've been going to shows since 1973 and started out with heavy rock (Humble Pie, Allman Bros, Mountain, Johnny Winter, etc.). I've seen just about everyone that's not in the 27 Club . I was never a dedicated Deadhead insofar as I've always gone to see many other artists, but I've seen the Dead (and the Stones) many, many times. The reason people (including me) saw multiple shows of every Dead tour is because of the wide variety of genres of music they draw on and how diverse their sound and repertoire is as a result. The fact is, I can't name a single band whose sound is more diverse than the Dead. Even the song list from this show that you just saw is widely diverse. Perhaps like me, the trippy sound and meandering guitar didn't resonate for you like the punch of hard driving rock... but being a product of the '80s rather than the '70s, unlike me, you didn't see enough Dead shows and listen to enough songs to really begin to hear and appreciate the nuanced, intricate and complex sound that was the Grateful Dead. The Stones are the greatest rock and roll band ever, but theGrateful Dead were by far, a much more skilled and accomplished group of musicians whose sound remains unrivaled to this day.
One only need listen to a show from 1972 to hear the variety of sound and styles--from country, blues, folk and funk to complete abstract psychedelic madness to stomping rock and roll to sweet emotional ballads.
Thanks for the review. Now I’m considering of catching a show there . I first saw the Dead in 68 . Was a big Jerry fan . I’ve seen Dead and Co three times and they were ok . However seeing them in them in the Sphere seems very appealing. Though honestly I’d prefer maybe a two and a half hour show. Four hours is a long time.
@JoeInVegasReviews, Hey "JOE", I want to thank you for your honest opinion and for taking The show, the band and the community seriously. For giving the experience a true chance.. . I really appreciated your review & think you did a fantastic job! You earned a new subscriber.
As a pretty big Dead fan in the 80s (although not a Dead head) it really hasn't, isn't and won't be the Grateful Dead *without* Garcia. I know that will ruffle some feathers, but that's how it feels. That big group mind thing is absent. I don't pretend to know why, but it is. It's not the same thing it once was. But then I suspect that was probably gone by 1993 or so, when it became the *HUGE* nightmare that had Phil and the others writing letters to the audience imploring them to cease with the insanity, all the arrests, people getting killed when that roof collapsed, etc, etc. It's really sad, as that was truly unique, something that was almost never found anywhere else, and had manifested back in the Acid Tests.
You did a great job! I think the thing w Jerry is he was not about the ego thing and i bet money he had convo’s w Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Bill to keep going, keep the vibe, don’t make it the Jerry show-he hated people making him into an icon during his life. I was there in SF 7/16/23 saying, “See you at the next show…” lo and behold lol☠️🌹⚡️
Jerry’s playing is something that was so different and spontaneous that it wouldn’t feel right to use ai. Mayer does a good Jerry tribute and they played a lot of songs tbh at were written by him to also pay homage.
Thanks for the review. I go to see them in June and I am pretty excited. It’s funny you think all their songs sound the same because I think they are all different. Lol
Honestly dead heads are surprisingly go with the flow even being so loyal. It’s a hard band to get into and everyone mostly understands that it’s not everyone’s thing. Sometimes it being not great is fun, have you guys heard Donna sing lol?? When people wear a shirt with the dancing bears and can’t name a show or an album, whatever. They have some cool imagery and IPs. Going to the shows is super fun and if you go you’ll see, even if you’re not all in
You bring up a good point regarding Jerry being intertwined in the experience. Personally a great idea however and Jerry said this many times when they’re done with it they’re done so they allowed tapers to tape free of charge but I agree with you this is something totally different and would have been mind blowing Jerry and John riffing off each other as Jerry always liked playing with new folks. So yes technology check Desire of experience Check A whole other level of experience Check out
This showed up in my feed so I gave it a watch. Appreciated the review a lot, some facts were a little off as some people have noted, but it doesn't really matter.. Dead & Company can elicit some strong feelings both ways in the community. Personally, I stay out of all that - if you go to a show and had a great time, to me that's all that matters. I grew up in the Bay Area, so the Grateful Dead were part of the pop culture for a long time. I was never really into them, but also didn't DISLIKE the band. I of course had 100's of chances to see them and never did. Was into different things through my teens and past when Jerry died. Was not until later in life listening to the music and then marrying someone that was into them that I really grew to appreciate the music. The first time I saw any iteration was Dead & Company's first full blown tour in 2016. My wife and I went together and though we'd by then been to hundreds of different shows together, I never say her so happy. That sealed it even more for me. We went on to see them many times in CA and AZ including home turf at Shoreline. Long-winded, I know. :) Glad you had a great time, sir.
ThAnk YOU BROTHER. GRATE AND NICE COMMENTARY. ALSO.....ABOUT NOT SHOWING MUCH JERRY. THIS IS ONLY ONE NIGHT. LIKE THE ACID TESTS. LOTS TO UNPACK HERE AT THE SPHERE.
Great insight on Jerry AI, really enjoyed your review and perspective. I agree on a lot of your narrative. As for why “they” didn’t include Jerry it’s hard to say. Maybe they will later. Some may say it would “take away” from the current players. It’s Bobby’s turn to shine. Maybe they will do a Jerry tribute Grate Dead AI show ? Anyway she you in June. Thanks Joe
We shall see. It's a 4-Hour show they can easily make one song all about a love letter to Jerry without taking the spotlight away from anyone thanks for listening I appreciate it
Perfect review. I am going Friday, May 24, in the exact same situation as you. Don’t know the band but loved the Aronivsky movie at Sphere. 300 level, day of, I will get them under $200. Thanks so much👍
Good review. I'm a deadhead since the 80's haven't seen dead n company cause Jerry was my guy, but I gotta see this. Vegas local unemployed need a miracle ticket..
Keep checking StubHub especially a few hours before the show or find some Facebook groups for Ticket swaps. Don't be afraid to sit up at the top of the 400 section you still get to witness it and all its Glory
Re: Post-Jerry. Dead & Company started up in late 2015 as a one off show at MSG. Sort of took off and they started touring . Phil Lesh was not apart of D&C. There were some other iterations before Dead & Co including The Other Ones, Furthur (which I think was the best version) and The Dead. Those included Phil. There was also the Fare thee well shows in 2015 which Trey Anastasio played Jerry's lead parts.
Now you get it... If your Dead Forever... the graphics, music, experience, community, traveling, the band and Jerry have been and are in your Deadhead Forever. That’s the tribute to what Jerry created and the focus of his passion. 👣🕊👽
most generous comments about Dead fans from a non Dead fan that I have heard .. respect
Thanks man.. I appreciate it that 🤘🤘 Thanks for listening
U r doing a good job my man ! Don’t worry about a thing as Bob Marley would sing 🎶 you! ❤️🐰🐇🌹☠️💀⚡️👽🪐🛸🚀🌎🕊️🪽🥰😘😍🤩💥🌙🌟✨🥳love to u y’all out there !
Touch of Grey video came out in 1987. 8yrs before Jerry's passing
Thanks for the info and correction .. My bad.. Thanks for listening!
First heard TOG in concert, June '84. Harrisburg, PA..HeyNow 😊
He said he doesn't know sh*t
I was just about to say watching the video that Touch of Grey was with Jerry Garcia
@@ericbenjamin487 I don't lol
No the audience yapping away is the worst
Bought great seats for $75 a piece in section 310 the night before the show, cheap are there!! Just gotta poke around ;)
How loud was it?
@@dylangoode9393Did you buy paper tickets outside the show (do those even exist anymore LOL) or did you find them online while you were there?
Heading there next weekend. We're getting there late Thursday night and I have tickets for Saturday. 404 row 17, Will NEED Tix for Fri too...
Hoping to find something down a little lower. Either the 200s of front of 300s..
I also grew up in the 1980’s, was into Maiden, Zeppelin, etc.. thought the dead sucked, then I saw them live in 87…changed my life. Deadhead for life!!!!
Maiden and Zeppelin suck
So glad u enjoyed it. It's a very special place. Even more so when it's Ur favorite band.. Thanks for listening
Glad you had that experience.. It's a special place.. Thanks for listening
That sugaree was out of this world
I was in Vegas for a meeting last week. Like others, I'll be 61 soon an have been a fan for over 40 years. I was able to score a great ticket for just above $100. I went completely sober and stayed sober and had one of the best times I've ever had at a concert. The Sphere is out of this world. Thanks for your excellent review.
Glad you got to experience it thanks for listening I appreciate it
John Mayer was sitting in for a late-night TV host and Bob Weir, who was touring (post-Jerry's death) with his new band, was the musical guest.
Very interesting.. Thanks for listening I appreciate it
I feel like I remember them doing Truckin, and maybe BE Women?
Don Was acclaimed Producer (Blue Note President, Stand up bass in Wolf Bros) Introduced John Mayer to Bob, the rest was history.
❤
Bill Kreutzman no longer tours with Dead & Co.
Thanks for listening 🤘
I give my experience 11/10
glad you enjoyed.. thanks for sharing!
The bus came by... again... but you got on this time!
Haha
The members , the songbook, the community. It always was and still is a vessel. A vessel that has transported and continues to transport many of us all to that space of joy, of memories and contemplation ,of celebration, dance and often times soul touching emotion. The graphics depict those vessel adventures in a wonderfully creative style. I would expect no less. May the Music never Stop.
Can you put in a word to the band that their songs are way too slow and four hours of that is exhausting
I'm a major Deadhead.... the opening weekend shows were MIND blowing... the MUSIC, the scene, the graphics.... all of it. Love the non-fan review, thanks!
There really was mind-blowing. Thanks for listening I appreciate it I hope you consider subscribing
I was there Saturday night. It was a 10 of 10 show for me! Best concert experience ever! Nice video. Much appreciated
Glad you enjoyed it it was amazing thanks for listening
Looks like the people are having a wonderful time dancing around. It's contagious happiness, and a very special feeling.
No all they ate doing is talking over the music
I appreciate your honesty and being a cool understanding, dude. Most people look down on jam band fans. Thank you for sharing the ins and outs of the sphere.
Happy to help and share and I don't know why people would be so negative against jam bands and their fans. Deadheads are the happiest group of people I've ever seen. Must be jealousy
Totally agree. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts and Sphere was, by far, the single best concert experience ever.
Yup.. It's a game changer. For ever genre of music
Thanks so much for listening I appreciate it
I have no idea why they didn't memorialize Jerry, but my gut says that it was the right thing. For sure!
Thanks for the insights that's interesting I appreciate you listening and what an amazing story with him shining his light on you
Nicely written ......
They have many photos of jerry and grateful dead band members AND couple tributes to the original band the haight and a few of the iconic venues Jerry play GD
Both in sphere graphics and at the “forever dead experience” at The Venetian
Check my channel for videos from a forever dead fan
@nowiknowuryder I will check it.. Thanks for listening
Jerry is always present at shows, for all of us!
This!!!
I agree that "here and now" is the takeaway. Jerry's gone but not forgotten ( "and nothing's gonna bring him back," but the show still goes on)!
The road goes on forever and the party never ends.🎭
Thanks Joe, I want to make one of these shows so badly. We'll see. First show OKC Nov. 1972. "Once in a while, you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right"
Thank you for this review!
Prepare to be blown away. Have a great time thanks for listening
you're gonna have your mind blown
I just want to make a comment about your points about how little the band didn’t have Jerry Garcia plastered all over the screens Deadheads know that every Garcia song they play is honoring Jerry and his legacy John Mayer is doing a fantastic job playing Jerry’s music but in his own style!!
“Why wasn’t there a little Jerry playing on the moon ? Fkn hilarious!
There were some little or even big (his hand) scattered about
You did an excellent job reviewing the experience. Well done
thanks so much for listening -- i appreciate it!
“And boy did they fuck’n deliver”
Awesome!
Lol thanks for listening... I appreciate it
Fun fact: the grateful dead was the first band to incorporate a light show into their concerts. Pretty sure they were also the first to use computer-controlled lighting as well. No surprise that they would have awesome visuals.
Long time deadhead, looking forward to two shows in June.
I think Pink Floyd may have been the first.
I believe it was the Charletons at the Red Dog Saloon
I couldn't pick out 710 Haight when it was showing behind the band. Curious to know which one was, as it has obviously changed so much.
My feeling is that Dead and Company are ongoing; forward looking with a nod to the past. On the Haight Ashbury push in I’ve seen on UA-cam shows PigPens cowboy hat; If you know what to look for; it’s there. I go next week! Great review!
Interesting. Thanks for listening have a great time!
Thanks for listening they are actually here for the next few months
Makes no sense.. Their loss.. Thanks for listening 🤘
I went out there with the wife intent on going to opening night. Was so good went back night 2. I wanted to see if the graphics were the same. Wish I had the time to stay for the 3rd show opening weekend. Hoping I can get out for one or two more.
Talk talk yap yap yell yell talk some more yap some more scream yap yap talk talk. Sure great experience. Hard pass cuz of the audience.

😂😂😂😂 Very true!! Lol
I was too young for the early daze. But been reminding folks this is the modern incarnation of the Acid Tests with visuals all over the ceiling and walls. And the modern version of the Wall of Sound. And yeah, it's the visuals we all had in our heads come to life.
And they had to walk uphill to the show, both ways, in the snow too
So excited.

I know Phil and Friends were never a Grateful Dead official 'reunion' but they were the most vibrant and innovative of the bunch.
Wow. Very interesting feel better thanks for listening I appreciate it happy I was able share some of the graphics with you
I am an old head, and I don't think it would be disrespectful to feature a cool history of Jerry
Hope you make it Brother..See ya at the show...
I am pushing 60 *
& saw my first show at Lake Placid NY on 10-17-83. I wish I could go.
Oh that Sugaree opener! ;)
My first was 5/9/87 in Montery, when "Touch of grey" video was filmed. I wish I could go too. When I saw Dead&co I could feel the difference.
Haha.. Noted.. Thanks for listening I appreciate it
@@JoeInVegasReviews A nice average trip is about 4 hours. That’s what the show was about. Going on a trip to space and back.
Great review Joe, as a Deadhead I especially appreciate to open-minded perspective!
Thanks so much for listening I really appreciate it
Joe thanks for your post. Enjoy!!
awesome. thanks for listening!! i appreciate it!
Thank you kindly. As a huge Deadhead, this is the review I've been looking for. Glad you enjoyed the show.
Thank you for listening I really appreciate it
@@JoeInVegasReviews yeah, emphasis on listening. Since I'm going the last weekend of the run, didn't want too many visual spoilers. D&C said there would be many repeats, so hoping to keep them somewhat unknown. To that point, my only wish was to have your voiceover available as a shareable podcast to pass around amongst friends.
@@justinvitcov3181 thanks lol I don't know how to do that.. I do have the audio as a separate file.. But not sure if I want to upload to UA-cam

I used to go to shows in the 90's and I always thought it was amazing how these girls could just spin in circles for hours. I used to think 30 bucks was alot for a ticket.
Lol thanks for listening I think those same girls are still spinning I don't think they ever stopped LOL
Not just girls
We Love the spinners
People need to appreciate the renditions and love all of the cover bands and tribute bands bring. I love gd every era, but i like Dead and Co's appoach for different reasons. I love Oteil's passion and voice on Jerry songs, Jeff may be my fav keyboard player of all eras and i love Keith and Brent, John does his own thing and i think while a bit annoying in sime songs his voice is actually perfect for some Jerry tunes. Bobby's voice has changed, but not in a bad way
Waaaay too slow
The tempo never accelerates like the original
@@earthsucks9555completely not true
@@earthsucks9555
Maybe it was too slow when Bill Kreutzman was still playing but
D&C with Jay Lane on the drums definitely makes for faster tempos.
Hey Now!
😂😂 Noooooooooooooo thank you!! Haha.. Thanks for listening, I appreciate it 🤘
The Sphere is the only reason I would ever go to Los Vegas.

Youre going to have an amazing time.. Your wife is a Rockstar. Thanks for listening
Ugh, I saw U2 and was blown away. Looked into going back out for the Dead, but a Hawaii trip in June makes it nearly impossible. Now I'm pissed that I'm going to miss it. Oh well, I hope they circle back there.
They are here for a while.. Maybe u can catch em
Great video man! Dead and Company just aren't a tribute band. The music is alive and well. Jerry lives in the songs. I really enjoyed your video.
thanks man, much appreciated. thanks for listening - i hope you consider subscribing!
Dead and co is relatively new version of the band. They have done soooo many versions to memorialize Jerry. This version still included many past members and locations.
I'm sure they have I just feel like giving the technology they really had a special opportunity to do something they couldn't have previously done
DeadCo w/Mayer is 10 years going
@@JoeInVegasReviews Agreed 👍 The Band is OUTSTANDING
@@ashleighgabbz thanks for listening.. You never know.. Maybe they'll come back 🤷
I hear ya about ticket prices 13.50 was my first show mid 80s
I paid $160 for my ticket and I live in SoCal too, drove my truck. Best show I ever been too!
$27 in 1970 is equivalent to $220 today… just want to fact check the whine.
Hey Joe,
I was in Monterey at Laguna Seca Raceway in 1987 where they filmed Touch of Grey. The fog in the video was actual fog that rolled in
that night from the coastline.
68 first time for me at the Newport Pop Festival. The Dead were billed 4th or 5th. Tiny Tim was the headliner on Saturday....lol
did they have good beers on tap and how much did they cost?
Thanks for the info and thanks for listening
The Dead are not the best at what they do, there the only ones who do what they do
@b.a.boarding6053 when you dose at the Dead shows the spirits come out, the magic starts to happen, it's in the Air. That doesn't happen at the other ...whoever shows...so
That’s right
I think Phish is close
The dead are all pure musicians, that's why they play a different variety of songs as dead and co. Imo they're the best American band of all time
That quote hasn’t been relevant for 30 years. So many bands do what D&C do, and sometimes much better
It's trippy that Bob Weir is keeping this counter-culture subculture alive......Bobby!
Glad you had a great evening. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us all.
Thanks so much for listening I appreciate it
Thanks for the review. Very cool. If i ever go to the Sphere shows I'll now know what ticket to buy.
It looked amazing!
Thanks so much for listening I appreciate it.
. there have been MANY musical variations after Jerry died. I
Thanks for the info and thanks for listening 🤘
Saw them as The Dead at Bonnaroo in 2006 with Joan Osborne, and this past Saturday 5/18/24. What an amazing show
Man did you hit the nail on the head...
@@incredifunk thanks for listening!
After Jerry's passing they were the other ones & further. As you said with different personnel. Thanks for your take.
Looks like a great show and they make U2 look like amateurs.
I saw U2 twice at the sphere and it was awesome though from video I’ve seen it looks like Phish and the Dead took it to another level…
I’m going in July. I was a metal head in the 80s too. Late 80s I jumped on the bus. I lovveeeee them. Full on Dead head now!
Howdy, I started with punk and metal also. I started seeing the Dead in 87. I went through a period when I essentially rejected metal. Now, I love it again and find it to be some of the most creative music being made today. I am a proud Metal loving Dead freak.
Mayer was introduced during the late show for Althea ::
The dead -after Jerry was Warren Haynes
Furthur was Phil and Bobby
Dead and co is bill, Mickey & Bobby.
Jerry was the trip, Captain Trip . Coming in to it in early 80's I didn't think it could continue without him. Glad I was wrong.
I was one section over from you and I agree 300s is a great section to sit on
I jumped on the bus in 1987. I still can not get enough. I appreciate your review because I was wondering what it would be like. Nope, you didn't sound like an asshole lol. Welcome aboard, Deadhead!
Haha.. Thanks for listening 🤘
Mayer is a Master Guitarist. He does
Jerry and more. SO GR8FUL 4 JM, OTEIL, JEFF AND, NIW, JAY...EXCELSIOR
Exactly 😊
Not dickish at all Brother....at least not dickish as in the Dead sucking up to Vegas
Make sense. Thanks for listening I appreciate it
Hornsby was crucial. Vince, RIP, was okay.
The cartoon you are referring to (Skeleton on a chopper etc...) is a "permuation of the animation" used in the in the intro to original "Grateful Dead Movie".
I appreciate the info and I appreciate you listening. That segment was so badass it was probably the highlight of all the graphics for me
Hell in a bucket
Here's an idea, it's 2024 update from 720p to 4K or 1080p at least. Thank you.
Ull love it.. Thanks for listening 🙏

It's really sad, as that was truly unique, something that was almost never found anywhere else, and had manifested back in the Acid Tests.
interesting... thanks for listening!! i appreciate it!
Jerry would tell you Pig Pen was/is the heart of the band💯
Ditto!!
So yes technology check
Desire of experience
Check
A whole other level of experience

Glad you had a great time, sir.

Last dead show I attended was at Sam Boyd Silver Bowl❤ great memories!
