    I did have to call the police to get a Kirby Rep to leave. The police officer told me that they get calls for Kirby Reps “All the time”. “Never open your front door without knowing who’s there”. Advice to live by.

      Amen to that! I joke that I only accept visitors in my home with a 3-5 business day notice, haha. If there was a random knock on the door there's no way in hell I'd open! Hell, I don't even answer the phone if I get a call from an unknown number. If you're not in my contact list I probably don't want to talk to you, and if you haven't arranged a visit I probably don't want to let you into my home.

      We had a similar situation...I don't think it was with a Kirby rep (although I did once make the mistake of letting one into the house). This one was, I believe, a water softener salesperson. The worst part is I invited them BACK to give their pitch to my husband and I. (I think a free something was involved for 'listening to them' which turned out not to be the case if we didn't purchase.) THREE HOURS...most of our evening. At one point they went out to their car to make a call to their supervisor so we could 'discuss.' We debated not letting them back in, but all their stuff was there. It did not matter how many times we said we were quite happy with our current softener system, they persisted. I swear they think that they will wear you down. anyway, we now have a 'no soliciting' sign on our door because I am truly too nice to kick someone out and have bought products/magazines/etc that I don't need because I feel bad for the person. The only downside is that the Boy Scouts think this applies to them during popcorn season as well...

Fun hearing this way older one read out as I am recently finished with my grad program, but still enjoy listening to you while I pipette stuff 🥰 The ice cream sundae bar with no ice cream was literally just like fruit and sprinkles it was SO SAD. I'm on the second story, and unfortunately, nurses are often some of the worst when it comes to pushing snake oils and fear mongering when it comes to health and wellness. It's incredibly unfortunate because they should be trusted professionals, but they often push claims that are very easy to debunk with trusted research.

    • @superfacch
      @superfacch 10 місяців тому +26

      My experience with nurses is that there's a huge wide range in their actual science knowledge. I have a bachelor's and master's in different areas of biology but I work as a software developer now. Used to work for a visiting nurse service and I heard so many shockingly ignorant questions and comments from nurses. One of them asked ME if the flu could be treated with antibiotics...like..so concerning. And no, the flu is a virus. I've also known some extremely competent and bright nurses who know how to treat patients better than some of the doctors. We have to remember there are people at the bottom of all professions, which is quite concerning at times. I try not to think about that when I'm flying 😅

      I love my mom, who is a nurse, but she has some worrying viewpoints, like being anti-vaxx. She claimed she was tired of getting vaccines and still getting sick, to which I informed her it's not just about prevention but minimizing. She's had Covid two or three times but thankfully hasn't had long Covid. I work customer service over the phone and have had several customers since 2020 inform me of having to be out of work or off their feet for a year or more because Covid just destroyed them. I of course never ask if they were vaccinated, but it sounds like a miserable experience. I don't want my mom spreading misinformation, so I try to correct her when I can.

      O my yes! Some of these nurses are on UA-cam and it scares the poop out of me.
      But I have to say there are amazing nurses as well, including NPs. I guess like every profession there are subpar workers, but it's dangerous in the medical field.

    • @kimberlyault9242
      @kimberlyault9242 10 місяців тому

      This is purely my guess based on my own experience with the health industry, but I would venture to guess that these nurses who are selling health and wellness products believe that they are to fill a void that they have personally witnessed in healthcare. Modern medicine is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but it absolutely does not have the answers for everyone who needs help. And those who feel like they have been blown off by doctors or are undiagnosed for a long time begin to get desperate for a cure and buy these so-called miracle products. Some nurses may have noticed this lacking area in care and have decided to start selling products that they think may help those left behind. I have been searching for answers for over 3 1/2 years now. Numerous primary care doctors who tell you after a 7.5 minute appointment that you're just depressed when you're not, months long waits for specialists, waiting for tests, waiting for answers only to get none, try something - wait, try something else - wait again ...rinse, repeat. Trust me, makes a person desperate. Again my own guess.

We had two small daughters and we put them to bed, I got ready for bed, I even went to bed and my ex husband just completely ignored him and started doing at home office work. He still didn’t leave. He began to get increasingly aggressive as well, insisted on vacuuming our entire home, then trying to guilt us into buying that vacuum. Be careful with door to door salesmen coming in your home. I briefly dated a guy who sold magazines and Kirby and he was addicted to pills. He would always ask to use their restroom and rifle through their cabinets for pills and anything else to steal. These people are not vetted in any way and often travel from place to place. They are not safe to be having in your home. I learned the hard way when he robbed me while I was at work and disappeared one day. His favorite to steal pills from was the elderly and disabled as they often have pain medications. It’s very sad. Beware!
    PS - this wasn’t just him. I met several of his buddies, young men and women, that did the same thing.

    Hi Hannah, I'm here from Robert Welsh's channel, he mentioned your video in his, & now I can't stop binging your content. I had your vids playing all day while working. I had to comment because the last story unlocked a forgotten memory. I was a young teenager at some naughty sales party that I had literally ZERO business to be at. My first boyfriend's older sister took me because her friend was hosting it. I remember being embarrassed at the content of the party (I was brand new to dating, we had only kissed), & these older ladies were telling me "you're gonna need that" & similar things. I felt pressured to buy, so I bought edible chocolate body paint 😂. I thought I could just eat it, ya know, not use it, but it tasted gross and was thrown out. I'm putting this memory back in the box it came out of lol. Love your vids.

    I did Kirby after leaving my first abusive husband with my 8 month old. I was told to knock on doors and sweet talk the salesman into the home. Should have been enough to bail, but the guys were nice so I lasted a few weeks. I quit because the owner who enjoyed all the benefits of having other people make him tons of money and knowing that they could not quit was screaming at this kid calling him every vulgar name in the book, I also realized when the reps didn’t make any sales for a while and couldn’t pay their bills he would “lend” them the money and they could repay him out of their paycheck when they had sales. They couldn’t quit because of the contract they had with him and owing him money. A total “company store” situation. I was like nope I’m out.😡

    Story 2: That Sensitization sounds extremely similar to Platelet Reactions. If you get a Blood Transfusion- specifically Platelets; it is VERY likely you/anyone may have a serious allergic reaction. Could happen the very first time, or the 20th time, etc. But once you’ve had that reaction, you MUST be pre-medicated if you need another Platelet Transfusion.

    I used to drink a certain stomach soothing tea until one day I couldn’t drink it anymore, it was starting to make my throat swell up. I’d become sensitized to one of the ingredients by drinking so much of it! I can only imagine how much more could occur with an essential oil.

    Those essential oil huns are something else. I use EOs to make pillow and room sprays for myself, but when I am making them, or even spraying them, I always make sure my dog is in another room. I also only use them to make things smell pretty, and never buy the kind from MLMs.

      Sometimes I'd see EOs sold in chain grocery stores or even pharmacies (again not MLM ones, just regular EOs) - and I have to say that they always smelled so incredibly potent and harsh that they immediately gave me a slight headache. It's because of them I figured I'm quite sensitive to smells - but even so, the fact that a mere 0.5 second whiff of that can give somebody a headache is kind of alarming and tells you just how potent something as small as a bottle is. I can't believe some people rub it all over their body and ingest this stuff

All the upholstery was just ate up. She got mad and called him pissed she just bought an 800 dollar vacuum only to discover her ruined heirloom and turns he had already cashed (she even called the bank to confirm and he had) the check and said he spent it so he couldn't do anything till the next day. Where I grew up EVERYONE had a Tupperware engagement party/hens party/kitchen tea (really any pre-wedding party). The whole point was to buy enough stuff for yourself that the bride got credit for her own order. Where I was these women were all moving out for the first time right after the wedding, so the idea was to give her a start on her first kitchen. Later it switched to having a Thermomix party so everyone donates towards the bride buying one (without necessarily buying any products for themselves) as her wedding/engagement gift. I can't tell you how many of these I went since I was 12yo with my mum. Everyone was happy to be there and help the bride out; it was just the culture of my family/friend group. I still have the "shape-o" toy Tupperware key chain I won at one of those parties (when I was a kid my mum had the full size version for us to play with, so it was very nostalgic for me)!

Anyhow they happened to call when I had just gotten home from a miserable day at work and I was really grumpy. So I said yes 🤷‍♀️
    He arrived within a half hour and I let him in with all his “luggage”. He was there for about two hours and I wasn’t budging. He vacuumed my drapes to prove how they needed a Kirby, he vacuumed my large modular sofa, cleaned some windows with attachments and on and on. Normally I am shy, terrified to hurt someone’s feelings and couldn’t say no but I was in a very bad mood. He started with charm, got flirty, then got frustrated. He even called out that “if I could afford Waterford crystal (I had a collection of glasses on display) then I could afford the Kirby”. I kept repeating I could not afford it. He finally left but was visibly angry when he left. When the door shut on him my bad mood lifted😂

    I had a vacuum salesperson try to weasel their way into my home once. I answered the door bc there was a middle aged dude and a young woman outside. The guy started out by immediately handing me a bottle of Dawn Dish soap as a 'free gift' (we don't use normal dish soap bc of allergies). Then he started his pitch... and it got to a point where i was so confused on what he was selling (plus, being too nice) i said i wouldn't mind seeing the product (still only with the door cracked. He sent the young woman (18-20?) to go get it, and she hustled off and dragged back this giant vacuum box.... then of course he asked to come in to do a demo, and this is where I finally found my boundaries. "Are you sure? she gets paid just for doing the demo! you don't have to buy!" and it was SO skeezy. Like "hey look at this young woman who is just trying to get by, please help her!" I shut him and all his protests down... then he asked for his dish soap back when they left lol.
    I hope that poor girl found a better job. I felt so bad for her, and so grossed out by the way he was blatantly using her to drum up sympathy and play on people's politeness. There was an extra level of ick bc he was a middle aged white dude and she was a young black woman. The dynamic was just.. uncomfortable.

    Hello from Australia! The MLM is a toxic framework & my personal experience as a party guest was… interesting! I was invited to a Doterra party and not knowing anyone in a town I just moved to, I went to meet/make some mum friends. In short, there was a room full of great women, glasses of bubbles flowing and we were having a great time. The two oil guru’s started their presentation and basically told everyone in the room that if someone died of cancer it’s because they didn’t use essential oils. These women knew of several people who cured their cancer using oils. They did not read the room or get to know their audience at all. One lovely lady had lost both her mum and sister (very recently) to breast cancer, how she held her shit together while listening to these two women go on to say, and I quote “if someone you know has died from cancer they have no one to blame but themselves”. I was stunned.

    Thank you so much for talking about them. This one hits home. My formerly favorite aunt got wrapped up in DoTerra and it breaks my heart. She and her sister are like at the top of the pyramid and it’s just gross. She scammed my mom so many times, it was almost impossible to cancel the subscription she signed my mom up for without her knowledge, (oh she also convinced my mom to use MY email once and then took a donation from her without her knowledge) and then, a couple years ago, after not hearing from her for some time, she texted me and I was all excited. Happy that this aunt wanted to talk to me (she’s on my dad’s side and most of them don’t talk to me) and then it turned out she was just trying to sell me oils. Like no thanks, bye. It was really upsetting, like she just doesn’t seem to realize or want to accept how extremely harmful the MLM is.
    Also, I made the mistake of putting on one of the DoTerra deodorants that were laying around at my mom’s house, because I forgot mine. Well, that deodorant BURNED my skin! and for two weeks I just had a huge red rash on my armpits and then to this day (this was like five months ago), I still have flaky, itchy skin there. like I don’t know what it did to me, but it hurt so much for so long! Related to the DoTerra story. Allergic contact dermatitis can happen with basically anything. I had been using bandaids my whole life and back in 2022, I started having reactions. I’ve tried the overpriced barely sticky ones for sensitive skin but they don’t work. So I just feel like I have to deal with the reaction from regular bandaids.

    Same thing with allergies, one can be eating a specific food their entire life and the. one day develop an allergy to it.

    Allergies are something I'm far too familiar with. They can occur at any time, to anyone. You can go half your life without them and then suddenly be deathly allergic to shrimp, milk, whatever. And you can have a mild allergy that's never been bad but the next time you encounter the food/substance, it can turn deadly. You have to be incredibly careful with essential oils. They're condensed--incredibly concentrated.

      And how often companies change their recipes, especially with skimpflation where they use cheaper, lower quality ingredients and barely inform buyers. So much random contact dermatitis because of this.

    I can't for the life of me understand how people tolerate Kirby reps. My house is my sanctuary and if someone is violating that and won't leave? The police would be called so fast. I'd never let anyone in to begin with though. My mom would, she has the sense of obligation to let people talk and throw their pitch and feels pity and makes a purchase. She does it at stores all the time, and I tell her "mom you aren't obligated to buy something just because the worker is being nice to you"

    I gotta be honest, hearing anyone unwilling or unable to just say "Hey, I'm not trying to be rude but you need to leave". I've had people from a certain church come to my door, my girls would answer, get stuck answering talking to them. I have little patience and honestly, all you need to do is say "I'm sorry but I'm not interested or inform them which church denomination you are. I then shut the door, giving them no time to pass on pamphlets, books or anything else, otherwise, they will return to ask if you read it, whatever gets them through your door. If someone tries to sell me something, I say "I'm too poor and have no money". Sometimes you have to be a little mean because these people depend on people's kindness answering unwillingness to be rude yet they are fine rudely forcing their way into your home. I don't get visits from anyone except family or friends anymore

      Agreed. Telling this rep that they’d buy the vacuum if their other roommate agreed, offering him some of their soup - doesn’t sound like telling him to leave at all.

    • @Alyse_bell
      @Alyse_bell 10 місяців тому

      Exactly. BTW if the church that comes to your door is the Jehovah’s Witnesses you can asked to be put on their do not contact list and they will literally remove your address from the lists they hand out to the people that go out ‘in service’ aka proselytising so they won’t come you door for again.

    My husband made the mistake of letting a Kirby salesman into our house years ago. It was awful. He literally just moved in for HOURS, even though we were newly married and explained to him there was NO way we could afford a vacuum that was over $1,000 no matter how amazing it was. We even had company come over and he and his “manager” still didn’t leave! They finally left but the whole ordeal had to be at least 3-4 hours long. I had buried that terrible memory until I started listening to your horror stories…then all the horrific memories came flooding back, lol. My husband and I had a fun time reminiscing about that one. He definitely learned his lesson…never open the door for a salesman, especially if they are selling vacuums!!!

    Sadly these MLM's have been around for decades. My parents were in Shaklee and Amway during the early 1960's. In the 70's my mom sold Avon (door-to-door) and we hosted Tupperware, Tiarra Glass Parties, Jewelry parties, etc. I feel like home parties went out of fashion where I live in the late 1990's.

    Funny thing about that next-to-last story: a friend of mine sold Mary Kay for awhile. I went to her first party, and one of the things her upline used to pitch the opportunity was how not only did she make great money, but that the business provided great insurance, too (so great it even payed for her daughter's out-of-state treatment trip, which in turn enabled her to recruit all the nurses into her downline). Also, for the last writer, there are plenty of online resellers offering Tupperware keychains.
