Yep, I was taught this by my father! He said the best oil to use when breaking in a dirt bike is using push mower oil. No wonders you see 30 year old Briggs & Strattons still running well till this day!
idk about then but now briggs and strattons are definitely not what you'd want for longevity. but i'd say 30 years ago definitely briggs and strattons we're not better than the japanese competitors. but yes if you apply all that and then say no wonder we see 30 year old japanese small engines still running well to this day then i'd totally agree with everything you say.
You want to use Lucas TB zinc break-in oil, pour 1 to 2 oz in the shipping oil, ride around for 10-15 minutes, or 1-2 miles, and flush. Next oil change should be done around 100 miles. At 300 miles You probably couldn't see the metallic flakes, because they got grinded up so bad, they've become small like flour.
So I came across this channel after searching for vid's on the x-pect 200 (since I was considering buying one, which I did, also in green) and i like how informative your videos are, I'll defiantly be getting some break in oil also considering adding a little Lucas in as well I feel like that would help the oil "stick" to the parts a little more unless that's a terrible idea defiantly requires more research. and i plan to eventually upgrade the shifter and headlight as suggested in your other video, might even go with an L.E.D. headlight bulb if I can find a good one.
With the Lucas oil, keep in mind the clutch also gets bathed in oil on these bikes, so the Lucas will stick to your clutch too and possibly cause slipping. You'd just have to try and see, and if it causes slipping just drain the oil and refill without it. With the LED headlight they are tricky as you'd have to find an LED with a good light pattern, I've found that putting an LED in a housing designed for as halogen bulb can lead to a weird light pattern coming out that isn't as bright has a halogen bulb. This is because light comes out of a halogen bulb in full 360 degree pattern, and it only comes out of an LED in whatever direction the LED is pointing. Might work well, might not.
I did some looking around and discovered that Lucas makes a break-in oil additive that adds zinc so I might just get a high quality synthetic oil and add that to it.
@@magicmushrum6661 I have a bottle of the same stuff, it's good! Google "TB Zinc Plus" Shake it really well, and it won't take much since the oil capacity is so small on these bikes. It'll take a few squirts, like 1/8th bottle. You'll have a lot left over to stick in your car/truck/lawn mower/other engines.
calculate how many Ounces are 1.1 Quarts. we have to multiply 1.1 by 32 and divide the product by 1. So for 1.1 we have: (1.1 × 32) ÷ 1 = 35.2 ÷ 1 = 35.2 Ounces. So finally 1.1 qt = 35.2 fl oz.

How's the X-Pect running since the valve adjustment? Was it a hassle to get a plate for it to ride on public roads? Any update vids coming? Thanks - Michigan
I've been extremely busy so I apologize for the lack of videos but I will be posting more when things calm down a little bit! X-Pect is running great, over 1,000 miles on it now. No issues in Virginia getting it plated, I ride it on the street all the time cops don't even look at me twice.
Howdy. Just got a Lifan X-pect and found not a lot of info on how to get it going. Love your videos! Thought I'd reach out for help! I bought online (supposedly good to go after minor assembly). I assembled and installed(correctly and charged) battery. Zero power/electric. Has anyone ran into this problem? HELP!
@@chinabikeadventures1166 It was two fuses! Duh. Thanks for the response and all you do for the chinabike owners. Engine quality, build quality, and fuel economy. Lifan is an actual car/motorcycle manufacturer in Asia so their manufacturing standards, quality, and experience are very good versus many "no name Chinese knockoff" companies. It sips fuel (I can get 80 - 90 MPG with ease) versus the Hawk getting 50 maybe 60 mpg. The Lifan is a 197cc engine, while the Hawk is a 230ish cc engine, yet they make similar power. The fact that the Lifan, despite having the smaller engine making similar power as the 'big engine' hawk is another indicator of the efficiency and quality of the Lifan design. Since they're similarly priced, the Lifan just seemed like the better deal to me. You can't go wrong with either, both are great bikes for the money, I just personally went for the Lifan based on engine build quality and it's been great so far.
The dealers. I got mine at TXPowersports and what few things I've needed I just reach out to them and let them know what I need and they've sent it to me.
Amsoil 10W-40 Synthetic Metric Motorcycle Oil is what I use! I buy it in a one gallon container on Amsoil's website so I have 3 or 4 oil changes worth sitting in my garage at a time! The oil capacity of the bike is slightly over one quart, and there's 4 quarts in a gallon, so if you buy a gallon of oil you have 3 or 4 oil changes worth :) If you don't want to have to buy it online, 10w40 full synthetic motorcycle oil from Castrol or Mobil 1 are available on the shelf at Walmart. Especially for the first 1,000 miles it's a good idea to change your oil often, because the break in process puts a lot of metal shavings in the oil which is obviously something you want to drain out. Once you notice your oil stays fairly 'clean' between oil changes, you can go to changing it once every 1,000 to 1,500 miles.
After consulting Amsoil tech service, this break in oil is not recommended for this application. Their break in oil is intended for racing engines that have gone through a rebuild, and does not have the shear strength to properly lubricate the gears in the transmission. They say to buy oil that has the proper viscosity as depicted in the owner's manual. Again, Amsoil says this is not a recommended use for their oil. Call Amsoil direct if you have doubts about this advice.
It's worked great on three bikes so far! The gears are the least of my concern, it's the bottom end of the engine that I want to take care of. Also, the Amsoil break in oil is the exact viscosity the owners manual calls for??
Just got off the phone with Amsoil and they said as long as their break in oil is the same viscosity as what the owners manual calls for (which it is) everything will be fine.
@@chinabikeadventures1166actually no. maybe on old version (giving you benefit of the doubt) but updated version specifically recommends sae 15w/40 which should be good for most temperature ranges.

Running rotella t4 15w 40. It has the certs for wet clutch. Hope it’s a good choice.
That or Pennzoil 10W40

Would this be recommended for a Lifan KPM 200
Absolutely, I have a KPM-200 myself and I used the same oil. Worked great!
so you drained the oil It came with and added this amsoil
Correct. I would recommend anyone who buys one of these to drain out the cheap oil these ship with and use a quality synthetic oil.
