We didn't have water for over 2 weeks after getting a direct hit from Category 5 Hurricane Andrew in 1992. We didn't get power back until over 4 weeks later.
The local government has failed these people because they're supposed to be a plans and I don't even see a phone number that they can call and check on their relatives.
Our recomendatiom from emergency services in CA, earthquake country, is to be prepared to shelter in place for 2 weeks with enough food, water, medicines, pet food, etc. In case of shelter-in-place order lasting 2 weeks, with power & water & digital communications out. This is in CA -- do other states tell residents to do this, to have enough supplies for 2 week shelter-in-place?
Sam Brock, we've had to use buckets of flood contaminated river water to be able to flush the toiket when utilities are out. Like Valentines Day floods 1986 Lower Russian River, Sonoma County CA. You said you didnt knkw what people were getting buckets of river for -- maybe to flush the toiket, sit? The toiket will flush js the tank is full, one can fill the tank with a bucket of water, wothout skin contact, if you're careful. Its helpful to be able to flush the toilet, at least duribh such times
