I’ve never heard an electric bass that sounds more like a double bass before. I’m not sure what magic you did with those pickups, but kudos.
Michelangelo said, "The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material." This is how I feel about your work. There is a sense that you know where the beauty lies in a piece of wood and you just remove everything else. Your art is unique, interesting and exciting. Thanks! p.s. I saw that DC-380 back there. I have that same planer:)
Thanks! Yea, that's a great, industry standard planer. I upgraded to the helical cutter and it is really nice.
I'm saving up.
What a fun jam at the end 😁
Now those are some nice looking bass guitars Tim. Well done! 👍👍🎸🎸
Really digging this series and how they all play off eachother (pun not intended) but are still a little different. Definitely fun! Thanks for sharing!
Love the Mingus demo! 👏🎉
Great Stuff Tim . Love your channel!. That little ditty sounded like a Jet Screamer tune. :)
Great video and music. Cool shapes and finishes. ❤🙂
Always enjoy your videos. You are an inspiration to go outside the box and experiment. 😎👍
Henry has a look and sound that would make good music at a jam
I like them, nice family! Especially the different woods and treatments.
BTW I really like that in your little commercial for the push stick, you talk about how they'll get chewed up. I worry a little bit about people who make or buy really nice push sticks, in that they might do dumb things rather than risk the fancy stick. It's there to be used up instead of your fingers!
interesting perspective...
Another cool axe.
And a nice little jam form the Sway String Orchestra.
Awesome
Those are some cool body shapes. Looks nice 👌

Fantastic designs as always!
Another neat creation. You've been hard at work... and it's resulting in ya looking more and more like a mad scientist.
That's probably because I cut my own hair - and not very well, usually :)
Pardon my ramblin' on this: the finish - as I've seen other places hotly debating the whole idea of 'relic' finishes on boutique guitars - you know, the expensive stuff.
IMHO it's one of the lamest ideas and things you could do to a NEW guitar. And they charge EXTRA for that? If I want my acoustic guitar to look beat-up,
I'm sure I could find many ways to do damage. But, each to their own taste. I would've liked to have seen you flame the entire body, (not leaving the light wood under the pickups) and put some not-quite high-gloss on it to make the burned-grain really POP. My 2 cents.
Instead of a 'torrified' Spruce top - you've got more of a 'terrified' finish going on. :0) Always interesting projects and products coming from your creative skills. Cheers!
Nice easy finish. Next time try wrapping bare copper wire around the body leaving uneven space between the wraps before the fire treatment. The idea is to make a faux flame maple look.
fun idea! I will try something like that
I do prefer nitro lacquer, but oil finishes are a very close second. Tru-Oil is fantastic stuff.
The environmental element is a big concern and obviously, nitro is out of the question! lol. Tru Oil is pretty bad stuff, too, environmentally, so I avoid it as well. There are some decent water-based polys out there ike Total Boat Halcyon that is pretty durable and easy to use and I'm also a big fan of Natural Earth Paint's Varnish, which is what. used on the neck and fingerboard.
@@timsway Have you seen the finish that David Piccuto recently came up with? His unofficial claim is that "it's so safe and natural that you could eat it (but please don't)"
@@pileofstuff It's probably pretty similaer to what I make, but his looks like it might have more oil and less wax in the mix. I like it thick and pasty :)
28th view beginning... ready, set, go... 9th LIKE posted at 6:06 - (the Roman numeral fret markers look cool, IMHO).
For reasons unknown your videos haven’t been showing up in my feed. Good to see you Tim! I still miss the podcast.
Yea, I don't know why, either. That happens to me, too. If you click the bell it guarantees you see them, but that's annoying, too, because it's like getting a DM or something. Cheers, Marsh!
MINGUS! Nice,
Cool stuff!
Have you seen that "DIY Alumitone from Copper" vid? Simple pickup with an interesting sound. Sucks about the size of the needed transformer though but maybe that could be a design feature in a clear body, know what I mean? Stick a glowing tube on it and away you go, heh heh. Cheers!
I have seen that and want to try it one day.
Mingus!
What are your thoughts on a hand-held acoustic bass?
acoustic bass guitars? I have very deep thoughts! ua-cam.com/video/EHTJpgg1XqU/v-deo.htmlsi=9UCMTbflK0jsj6lF
Sure wish you'd tell us weights....
Weight is more subjective than you'd think as a lot of it has to do with where and how the weight hangs on you. I usually remember to weigh them and include that info when I list them for sale. Even my "heavy" guitars tend to be a little lighter than most heavy guitars because of my body size and thicknesses usually being smaller. This bass would be on the "heavier" side as it is made from heavy materials and a full length neck, but probably still only 8 lbs.
Very original. Earthy looks and sound. Fantastic job
Tim: I adore you, but please do NOT make an Elroy! I've been working on a design dubbed that for a couple of years now. Actually, I kind of pirated the shape of the MusicMan Albert Lee models, so I'm probably being a hypocrite asking you not to "copy" something that I fancy I'm going to build someday. In fact, now that I think about it for a few more seconds, How about you make an Elroy bass??? (I would gladly send you my design so far.)
LOL. Elroy and Rosie were on the table for this, but Henry seemed more appropriate. I think if I did make an Elroy it would have to be a mandolin or something :)
