Have Tmo home internet . Following some of Nates videos i added the Waveform mini. Went from 90mbs to almost 200mbs. I used that 3rd party app to disable the Tmo's built-in wifi and connected to my existing deco S4 mesh system. Would get 100-150 in the house. Well just upgraded to deco XE 75. Wow! What a difference. All thus time i though it was TMO slowing my speeds. Nope, with the new XE75, I am consistently getting 400mbs down just about anywhere in the house. Thanks Nate for all the videos, you definitely helped me out!
We've been on T-Mobile home internet for over 2 years in the Seattle region. It's been great with more than adequate speed with no external antenna. We don't game, but consume a lot of video including our TV reception. All at $50/month.
I'm on my third day use with T-mobile 5-G WiFi but the bill is $60 a month right now for me. So far it's working well, but I'm still within the 14 day trial period.
So I have and have had the Verizon 5G cube for about 2 years. I have the ASK Cube and I pay $25 each month for the service. It has been great. I still get a public IPv4. The reason the speeds are throttled is to prevent one user from suckling up all the bandwidth on the tower. I have been getting the 300 mbps download and 20 upload more or less consistently since I've had it. I've been very happy with it, I used to have Xfinity.
I switched over for the $40/month(t-mobile discount 'lifetime') versus spectrum at the time $90/month for somewhat similar speeds. Its been stable after using your code to get the v1 chester cheetah :) But yeah the cg-nat thing is a big hindrance to multiplayer online games :( Im thinking of buying a virtual server and hosting my own vpn for an extra 4$ a month just to get around that. Thanks for putting out these informative videos as always! :D
Price is absolutely still, and probably the main factor for dumping cable. I just set up Tmobile to test and it's working great. We are Tmobile phone customers so we get the plus with a mesh extender for $50. Coupled with UA-cam tv and simply safe we will save $100/mo over the current $265 we pay Comcast.
More awesomeness Nate, way to go. They are putting fiber in my neighborhood but I don't think the cost will be competitive and I don't need more speed.
I just got the Verizon lte home internet and I have had good experience playing online with my xbox with very little lag but my area has decent coverage but cloud gaming is kind of hit and mess it works good with my security cameras and smart devices. And i get about 50 mbps pretty consistently, which is much better than my old 6mbps wired internet, so I'm pretty happy with it
I have T-Mobile phones and picked up the home internet 2 years ago when they offered it for $25. It took a while to find a spot that got OK speed 80 D 2 U. The tower is 1.5 miles due North. The north end of my house is the garage, so I put it in the north window. I have added the antenna to the garage roof and now the speed is up to 180 D and 7-10 U. Not sure if I need to spend the money for a better modem.
@placesonthelist do you have a good 4x4 MIMO antenna? That should give good performance, and your speeds sound workable. Not perfect but should be enough for most users.
The main things to this is try different internet products and find what works in your area.. For me I live in a small town and luckily I have several options..

So my question is they say 75-225mbps so even with throttling and peak times they regardless should always see greater speeds right?
I have AT&T 5G home internet. It’s usually decent with speed between 400-800mbps. The biggest issues are is it doesn’t work well with my work VPN and the modem usually needs to be restarted a couple of times a week.
@daltonwilliams2962 those are great speeds! For VPN look to see if you can adjust the MTU packet size in your VPN settings. Cellular needs smaller packets (default is typically 1500 but experiment with 1420 or similar for cellular).
Hey Nate, Thanks for the great info. I have a TMO-G4SE with the 4 antenna connectors but the external antenna on my RV only has 2 antenna cables. Which ports on the gateway should I connect those to?
I think what’s frustrated me most with TMO Home Internet was the speed. I switched from Spectrum because along with a “complimentary upgrade” to 400mbps they raised my monthly $15 the following month. I switched to TMO and I live close enough to the tower I can basically read off the fine print on the antenna. Genuinely with 500 feet. On an iPhone 15 Pro Max with 120mhz of B41 5G I am pulling close to 1,700mbps. On the TMO white gateway it’s pulling 100-300max. I didn’t expect 1,700 but I expected more.
is it the trashcan nokia gateway? That one is horrible, serviceable, but horrible. I've gone through 3 of those now just doing my day to day work activities. They burn out and they send me a refurbished version of the same hot garbage. It over heats, and even 3D printing a fan mount to add to it, plus a stand to elevate it so the fan can blow through freely, it still overheats way more often than it should.
I have 2 houses in Michigan that both have cellular service available. However none of the cellular companies will sell me Home internet service to either address. Very frustrating as my vacation\hunting cabin has no available internet access and my home only has one provider(monopoly = $$$$)

Nater how can i get tmobile home internet to work with hulu Live and other local live channels without paying extra like business internet static ip or a VPN service? I heard that you could use a 3rd party router and connect it to the gateway. But i dont understand how the gateway is dynamic ip but adding a router would make it static when the internet is coming from the dynamic ip gateway? Im so confused. What can I do? Do you have a video for that? Please help.
I just moved and had to get T-Mobile for my home internet and I've seen a lot of your videos but I'm a bit confused if I need both a WaveForm or the Chester router or an Elsys (can you use the Elsys with a T-Mobile gateway, in this video I get the sense that the Elsys is something completely different)? Do all of these play nice with one another and can I get away with getting just one of these because those prices are no joke😅 I want to game together and or stream movies and my options are pretty limited on what else is in my area.
They are different. You can add an antenna to the stock gateways or to a 3rd party gateway like a Chester. The Elsys unit is in place of a gateway/antenna but it doesnt have wifi so you'll have to add your own wifi router.
@@NaterTater question, have you tried using a MoCA device? I just learned it was a thing and was curious how it compares to using an antenna or even if it can be used in tandem.
@SplitSniper7 MoCA helps you get LAN throughout your house but it does help cellular signal or internet speed. MoCA uses exisiting coax cable in your house (if you have it) and basically turns it into an ethernet cable. They do work well in that regard.

How are you liking the Elsys 5g?
@@cbinder46 It is just a modem. Even in "Router" mode it doesn't have a firewall, just a simple dhcp server. In bridge mode it turns that off too and passes the traffic through to the connected device.
Hi Nate...another great video....I have a waveform form connected to my stock tmobile gateway....thinking of upgrading to elsys or third party gateway...your thoughts?
@mikehoward3991 hi, thanks. Lots of thoughts but it's highly dependent on your situation. What tmobile Gateway, WF antenna, received signals, etc. What are you trying to achieve with the change?
So I have had tmo home internet for a year now, at first it was great but after 3 months speeds degraded to the point it was unusable. I got Verizon home internet which was great but it was useable. But I kept the Tmo just because I suck at canceling thing and we took it in our rv when we traveled. About 2 weeks ago I got a call from T-Mobile asking to sign up for home internet which was weird since I already had it. I though that was weird until I checked the speed and saw I was getting close to 100 mbs down and around 10 mbs up which I haven’t seen ever before. It has been steady for a while now. The other weird thing is when I get in the app I can no longer see the 4g connection just 5g. All weird but I’m happy.
As surprised as I was I am currently getting my best speed ever on T-mobile using a G4AR gateway with a Waveform Quad antenna (the older one) even with NSA I have been pulling 600-850 down and 30-110 up depending on time of day. Strangely when I put the same SIM in my Invisagig with the same antenna I can’t break 120 down. Seems they are throttling 3rd party Gateways now since the Geolocking started. TTL changes help but still nowhere near what I get with the G4AR. If I put a BYO SIM in I get full speed, so be aware T-Mobile is not liking 3rd party hardware on non BYO plans.
what settings did you try in the Invisagig? It likely defaulted to 5G SA and for some SA is not up to speed yet and you'll need to change the 5G mode to NSA. Also monitor which bands the G4AR are on to mimic if required on the IG with band locking. Many options out there, I've never seen a 3rd party perform worse than the stock gateways!
@@NaterTater a few Months ago I would have said the same thing. This was purchased in the past 2 weeks. I Tried SA, NSA, and even LTE just for fun. The Only setting that seemed to make a difference was changing the TTL from 64 to 65 that got me up from 75 to 125. The G4AR is connecting to B66 on LTE and N41 on 5G. My Tower has 100M Bandwidth on N41 and 20M on B66. I can't retest at this point cause I sold the IG. I was thinking about Getting the New 5G Elsys but I am hesitant because of the, lets call it' Alleged, Throttling I think T-Mobile is inducing. I say this only because I also had a SIM for that 10 dollar a month 30Gig Data Only plan and that SIM got well over 600MB on the InvisaGig, I put the SIM out of the G4AR in the IG and dressed it accordingly with all the same other setting, same antenna, same speed test, and it drops back down under 120. There is no way to REALLY know for sure, but it looks like Throttling to me. I am in NJ so maybe this is something new T-Mo is doing when it can't tell where the Modem is on a GPS, I do not how all the Geo Locking stuff works with them. I am going to investigate getting a BYO Business SIM since it seems from what I have seen on your channel and Peters channel T-Mo is a lot less restrictive with those when it comes to hardware.
@@NaterTater ok so seems I was wrong. Didn’t get the Elsys but did get the Chester unit with the X75 modem you posted your best speed with. In the middle of the day I was able to get 948 down and 53 up. That’s insane!!!!! So apparently something wasn’t set right on the IG
it's a good bang for you buck but the newer modems are faster. The "base" Cheetah is still fast though and has all the same customization and options as the higher end ones for the most part (on the firmware side).
At least with my Verizon 5G Home Internet, I am getting a public IP. They are not using CGNET. I have tried an external antenna, and it does not really help with my setup. I am still playing around to figure out if it is my location or something with the tower.
yes the first time i got cellular internet and all they did was ship me a gateway. i unboxed and was running in 5mins. Much better than a service technician.
@NaterTater So, where does the silver cylindrical (Nokia?) gateway fall on the poor-best scale? Also, can you point to the video where T-Mobile "depritorization" is discussed? Our internet connection kept dropping during prime-time TV streaming (4-6 times per evening!). I called and complained for 30 minutes, threatening a change of providers and haven't had it drop for the last three nights! Also curious, which side of the 'Gray' gateway is best to face out the window in the general direction of the tower? Does it matter? So much info to digest! Thanks!
that's a fun story. My neighbors have it, it's a mere $18k (quote is a couple years old now so probably more now!) for comcast to improve their infrastructure for me to get it. Note that's NOT for line running down my driveway, rather for their switch box.
AT&T has ALWAYS been inconsistent, no matter which state you live in. I've lived in several states over the years and starting using them back in the DSL days. ALL of AT&T offerings have been spotty at best. I always ended up dropping them because when they have an outage, it can last months before someone actually fixes it. After being without service for 2-3 months, and still being BILLED for service, twice...I dropped them permanently. I can't imagine they've ever improved anything, it isn't their style.
My biggest complaint about the T-Mobile 5G gateways are that the speeds using the ethernet ports are significantly slower than connecting via WiFi. No one has seemed to figure out the reason for this.
I have heard that from some viewers but I have not seen that myself. I get full speed via ethernet. What device are you connecting via ethernet that is slower?
@@NaterTater I've been connecting a desktop PC and laptop. Those are connected directly to the gateway ethernet. I also have a mesh system connected to the gateway via bridge mode. The connection to the mesh also appears to suffer the same issue, where connecting to them via the ethernet port is slower than via WiFi. DIsconnecting the mesh from the gateway does not change the slower ethernet speeds. I've had this issue using different T-Mobile gateway models.
@@lattermanstudio Just wanted to provide an update. I ordered up a powered switch with poe and placed it between the gateway and pc. There does not appear to be any discernable improvement. On wi-fi, my speeds start slower and climb to peak. On ethernet, the speed initially spikes, then starts dropping. I am thinking it is an issue with how the gateways are programmed on data priority of wi-fi vs ethernet connected devices.
5g home internet sucks. I had t-mobile home internet is was the worst experience in my life. The t-mobile tower is in front of my house. T-mobile was worst than a 3g connection.

@NaterTater - quad pro antenna- g4ar gateway- want better speed for adding cameras to my house...thinking either chester or invisagig..your thoughts
Hi...do you think there will be a better sale on the chester cheetah for black friday?
@mikehoward3991 I'm not sure I recall him doing big sales but maybe he will? I know he offers refurbished units for cheaper on occasion.
Cool. Means you must be on 5G SA (standalone). Should be able to get much faster than that, perhaps with antenna or 3rd party gateway.
I Just ordered the Elsys Amplimax Ultra, we will see what happens with that unit.
@@LBIChris let us know how it goes!
The 5G Chester AX3000 is 395 price, will it work as well as the higher price one you have ? Thanks
it's a good bang for you buck but the newer modems are faster.
@@advcomp2019 are you at the throttled verizon speed for your plan?
Agree, cheaper $$$ plus convenient no hardware installation.
yes the first time i got cellular internet and all they did was ship me a gateway. i unboxed and was running in 5mins. Much better than a service technician.
I have T-Mobile's white box. What is the difference/advantage over the white vs the black black box? Tnx
@johnkaram6834 white box is better, has external antenna inputs and directional antenna capabilities.
Thanks!
I like to see Boost offer home internet. They are building up there own towers with 5G.
You need to try Verizon LV65
@ruforeyes1062 yes I would like to!
Nate - isn't Comcast available where you live? You are one County west of me but you might be off the roadway too far. Good Video!!
that's a fun story. My neighbors have it, it's a mere $18k (quote is a couple years old now so probably more now!) for comcast to improve their infrastructure for me to get it. Note that's NOT for line running down my driveway, rather for their switch box.
@@NaterTater there is Fiber over the fence 150ft from my house but was quoted 30k to run line because that fence happens to be an ISP border
Interesting
AT&T has ALWAYS been inconsistent, no matter which state you live in. I've lived in several states over the years and starting using them back in the DSL days. ALL of AT&T offerings have been spotty at best. I always ended up dropping them because when they have an outage, it can last months before someone actually fixes it. After being without service for 2-3 months, and still being BILLED for service, twice...I dropped them permanently. I can't imagine they've ever improved anything, it isn't their style.
that doesn't sound fun!
I've had this issue using different T-Mobile gateway models.
use a powered data switch…. it should significantly improve …. happened to me then i got a powered 5 port switch
There is no priority of wifi vs ethernet devices.
Why my Tmoblie wifi box only lag when I game.

5g home internet sucks. I had t-mobile home internet is was the worst experience in my life. The t-mobile tower is in front of my house. T-mobile was worst than a 3g connection.
