As long as I have used the internet, I’ve always found that an aftermarket or 3rd party router is going to be better than the router that your ISP will provide period. So no surprise for me. I use a Starlink mini and the day i used my old TP link router with it was the day i saw true Starlink performance
I really appreciate your easy to understand approach to all things Starlink and no self promotion nonsense as some other Starlink "gurus" insist on. Cheers from Utah
For me it wasn't so much a speed-performance issue regarding Starlink's integrated router, rather it was that I needed to spread the wifi over an entire house, and wanted to do it via mesh. Thus I opted to use an Orbi router / mesh wifi system.
For me, the selling point of the Gen3 router is the qos fq codel that Starlink paired with it. As far as I'm aware, the qos manages the connection for all users and balances the bandwidth between them so all users have enough bandwidth. Let's say you start a download on a random router without that feature, it will max out the download bandwidth for the connection as it tries to complete the download, everyone else on the internet is lagging or buffering or connection just stops working which can be very annoying. One of the main things I've seen in reviews I've read is how impressed people are that Starlink can handle multiple users at one time seamlessly, that I believe is due in part to the starlink router itself. I also think Starlink somehow lowers the bufferbloat as well, that may be from the router too, I'd like to see a starlink router vs a random router with a bufferbloat test. Thank you for the videos! 😁
Thanks for the video, exactly what I was looking for, I have Gen 2 Starlink router and I was looking for something that could extend the distance of the WiFi , are the eero extenders connected to the eero router through WiFi?
My ps portal struggles to connect and stream games with my regular starlink router. I wanna get a gaming router that works with starlink. Any suggestions
Google Nest mesh would work great! I’ve seen multiple people recommend Googles mesh system over the years, so I think it’s a tried and true system at this point. TP Link Deco is another.
What happens if you connect Google mesh to gen 3 SL router and not use bypass mode? That's how I am set up right now. I have 3 mesh extensions connected so it is all over my house. Would I do better to bypass?
I just installed Starlink Gen 3 and connected its router to my legacy Eero three node mesh which covers my house and outdoor spaces. For starters, I didn’t bypass the Starlink router and my speed tests from either WiFi are comparable. I will eventually bypass it but my eeros do well with it’s host router Wi-Fi enabled.
I have a Starlink Gen 3 router and a 3 pack of TPlink Deco X50-POEs. I am currently running one X50 as the router and have Starlink bypassed on a 5 acre property. Would I be better off using the Starlink modem and running the three X50s in Access Point mode? TIA
The app just got updated and it looks like they took it out of the development version. So not quite ready for release, and it looks like they accidentally gave us a preview of what is to come.
Hello, We have the gen 3 kit, but I enable the bands and split them. I didn't put the gen3 in the bypass mode but i also hooked up a 3rd party router to one of the ports on the back of the gen3 router. Is this the wrong way to hook up?
It can work if you get the Business plan ($20 more per month) and set up a public IP address with Starlink. Otherwise you are correct, Starlink uses CGNAT with dynamic IP’s that are not publicly accessible.
@@StarlinkHardware Understood. Thank you very much. I checked the plans on Starlink page. it has Residential, Roam, Roam Global and some Mobile Priorities. There is no Business plan! Does it mean that the hardware should also be changed?
Can you setup to have two network providers with starlink as one of the two to split the use where i have monthly limits that i hit a few times a year. I also want backup for outages with the first provider that happen a couple times a month in winter weather.
I don't personally use Sonos, but I've researched this before for other people that have asked. Using a 3rd party router would allow you to connect again. They have a lot more networking options and can adjust for things that Sonos needs, while Starlink can't.
I have Starlink Gen 3 with similar results.(150mbps down). I just bought a ubiquity edge-router 6p. It has POE 24v capability that i can enable on each port. Thinking i can do away with the SL router totally… but not sure of gen 3 POE requirements. POE, POE+ or POE++ to power it.
Hi Bro My Gen3 router does not output the WiFi network SSID anymore, the router is in a damaged state, in such a situation, if I install and use the eero pro 6E now, can I get it?
If the Ethernet ports have internet access, yes you could still use it. There is still a chance those ports work even though the WiFi part of the router is broken.
The “Enterprise” version can also be purchased which has a POE injector supply with no router in the kit, so you can use your own. The supply is also rated for more power, and can theoretically help with reliability. Any POE supply needs to be rated at least 150 watts for this dish.
@StarlinkHardware That wasn't available at the time I ordered mine or I would've gotten it. However, in my camper I went with one of the 12V POE converter units. Installing it this weekend. I'm an IT engineer by trade, so the less crap to break the better. 🤣
I bought it a few hours after it came out! Can't wait to do a review on it. The shipping timeline says late November so it might be a few weeks before it arrives.
Yep, starlink routers suck big time, worse routers i have ever had from ANY internet supplier. Changed mine for a deco mesh and now no problems anywhere in my house or Garden.
TP-Link Deco is one I hear recommended all the time. Tons of good options out there. I’m actually getting ready to do a review/test with one of their outdoor range extenders!
Anyone using Starlink in Central Indiana? I need faster more reliable internet, but when I asked my neighbor she said she was getting 80 Mbps down going through trees.
Starlink has a handy speed map at www.Starlink.com/map that you can check real user speeds for any state. It gives you an average range so you can expect generally somewhere in the middle during peak hours. Towards the high end of it outside of peak hours.

I believe the Starlink WiFi router will mesh with additional Starlink WiFi routers.
That's exactly the setup I'm going to do this weekend. How did it work out for you?
Does Orbu router allow you to install a vpn?

Yes, the eero routers are wireless, but they can also be wired if you prefer. Same with the Starlink Gen 3 routers.
My ps portal struggles to connect and stream games with my regular starlink router. I wanna get a gaming router that works with starlink. Any suggestions
doesn't it make a difference in what type of ethernet cable you use? I know it does with thunderbolt cables
Shouldn’t matter if you are using an Ethernet cable made in the last 20 years or so.
Same results for Google Mesh or is the Eero a much better option?

Can you re-enable the factory router after you bypass it?
Yes, you have to do a factory reset to get it out of bypass mode.
Hello
What is a good mesh node for starlink Gen 3
The Starlink Gen 3 mesh router is good and it's seamless plug and play! I also like my Amazon eero system if you want to go 3rd party.
hey any updates on the tweet that you put for the subnets and guest networks? is it good?

Nope, should work fine! If you aren’t noticing any issues I don’t see a reason to bypass.
@ no issues
Correct me if I'm wrong, port forwording does not work with Starlink, even in bypass mode.

I recommend checking out my Peplink backup video tutorial, sounds exactly like what you need: ua-cam.com/video/_eyMkBSnFkE/v-deo.html
Would you be able to do a video with peplink?
I did a review of that router here: ua-cam.com/video/_eyMkBSnFkE/v-deo.html

Gen 3 can use beyond 100 watts, not sure if the Ubiquity POE can supply that.

@MD-gq6iy No speed increase. You can still use the app when you use a 3rd party router.
