Never liked the van der Valk TV series but the tune has been one of my favourites ever since I was a kid. My Mom used to love hearing me whistle it as I came home from school!
Happy childhood memories... When my parents were on cruises I used to stay with our gardener and his wife who was like my nanny... I can remember hearing the end credits of this through the wall when I was meant to be asleep and screwing my eyes up pretending to be asleep when they checked up on me...
I've always loved this fantastic piece of music. It is regularly played by loyalist flute bands during Orange Order parades as some kind of homage to the Dutch Prince William Of Orange via the fictional TV character Van Der Valk.
@@JS-ip8xm Ha ha ha dat is goed! Ik kan ook een beetje Nederlands. Ik woon in Indonesië. Here in my country, Dutch was our official language before Indonesian independence in 1945. Usually, old people still can speak Dutch here. I learn Dutch by reading books only. Long time ago, when I was thirteen in 1987, I experienced difficulty finding books on Dutch. So, I learnt Dutch by reading my father's German lesson books. Later, little by little Dutch books appeared in a local bookshop. I bought them and this was strange for a teenager at that time. At the same time, I found Radio Netherlands on shortwave and I heard Dutch speech sounds, Dutch news and Dutch good old songs by listening in to Radio Nederlands.
Al final de éste 2023 se cumplen 50 años que salió al aire aquí en México esta bellísima canción que fue traducida en español como 'Y SONREÍSTE' al igual que la versión vocal del año siguiente cantada por Matt Monro 'AND YOU SMILED'.
It was good too ! Obviously much more modern now but had a real feeling for the original which was probably the fab setting!! Actors were superb too and Van de Valk himself still had that edge !

Apparently, yes, according to writer Jan Stoeckart's biography on Wikipedia. Which is strange, because the rhythm is so up and down. It makes me think of horses on a carousel.
@@pangorban1 No! We couldn't think of a suitable title and just chucked words about till we agreed on something! 'Eye Level" was meaningless - it could just have easily been 'Chin Up' or 'Nose Fluff"...
This theme music was used in KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' TV commericals in Hong Kong when I was a kid. I always love hearing it. Thanks for sharing! :D
Yes, I remember that music used by KLM. I'm searching this music for years and now found it. Thank you for sharing.
Legendary and still beautiful song.
Still remember hearing this on Top of the Pops in the early 1970's. Definitely brings back good old memories.
This is the song l’m playing to on Thursday the 8 of September 2023 eye level is the best
Love when the horn section + trumpets wade in :D

More memorably, it was the theme tune for the BBC crime series "Van der Valk", starring Barry Foster (Frenzy).
In memory of Barry Foster

Music that describes the beauty of Amsterdam or Holland is this.
Fell in love with Amsterdam and the Dutch people thanks to this tune and a KLM commercial.
@@JS-ip8xm Try to learn Dutch . It is fun.

Just love it.
Such a classic tune!
Refreshing …
Groovy tune man 🎻✌️🎺
Bravo!
Always puts a smile on my face
Very good tune not sure TOTP audience would appreciate it 😁
I expect the top of the pops audience would rather have had the sweets ballroom blitz at number one having entered at number two the previous week
Lol
Lovely piece of music
A great sound from great day gone by ahhhhh.😊
I heard they did appreciate it unusual for that time in pop music but there You go!
it's a real up beat theme tune!
Best sister in the world xx
RIP

1973 the year SAFC won the fa cup.🙂
Matt monro had a song with the music .
And what about the guy at 0.55? Check out that hat!
Who would have thought a group of middle aged men (a distinct lack of ladies)in beige polo necks would have a number one hit?
The tambourine basher at 0:30 could have at least tried to be enthusiastic.
At 0:54 in this video, ua-cam.com/video/zvesdlGe-EI/v-deo.html the tambourine player looks like he is having the time of his life.
Perhaps he wasn't getting paid as much!
@@hamburglar8794 it's a slightly more upbeat version. The tambourinist on the other version is having a whale of a time.
Maybe, but would you rather Pete Best & his out of timing, with The Beatles, before they stole Ringo from another band replacing Pete.

The title Eye Level, I'm wondering is it named this because the Netherlands is very flat?

High Level ? No Low Life.
Same old empty promises had it for 30 years 😂
Great piece of music, but all the musicians have faces like police photofits! 🤣
