The backhand blades are amazing freeze status weapons, which also scale with intelligence. Well, they are perfect for any status build but in your case freeze will do best with intelligence. Frost bite procs do a lot of damage similar to bleed.
I feel bad. I faced Rellana and i knew she was hard as BALLS so i wanted to test the water and see how she would fight my mimic. But then the mimic alone already got her down at least to second phase and at that point i could taste victory so i went in for the kill. We got super close but i died anyway because some moves she has can just kill me flat out. After that i fought her 3 more times with mimic and killed her. And i feel zero accomplishment. All i did was spam attacks on her when she was targeted at my mimic (and avoid attacks going my way of course). Now i beat one of the hardest bosses in the game, with no way to do it again without going through all of basegame again, and i feel like i did it without using any skills or really learning her moves. Not meant as a slight towards others who (also) use summons. I think its great they are there as an option. But i feel like i robbed myself of what could ahve been an actual accomplishment. Now i walk into the next area, which is a glorious vista to look upon and was clearly meant as a 'reward' for beating whats probably the gatekeeper of actual difficulty and i felt like a fraud... To make it even worse: the weapon i desperately wanted because it looked so cool isnt to my liking and seems to mostly find its spot when you are significantly higher level than i am (lvl 170).
I wouldn't read too much into the lore implications of a town's layout. FromSoftware is notoriously bad at designing sensible towns. Just look at Yharnam. It's all mostly just cathedrals and cemeteries. So the lore implication is that everyone is either at church or dead.
