As a kid, mom would take us every year to a national park. Zion was the first when I was 5. We did zion a bunch more times til our last camping trip before I got out of high school. I went and got an application from the lodge and as soon as school let out, mom put me on a greyhound to my new home in zion. Best place I ever lived
Of all the road trip videos of the Southwest this one is the best. A good subtitle would be "eating our way thru Utah" and the kids' attitude "I like mud" and sense of adventure was delightful. Subscribed and looking forward to more scenic wonders.
We have not done the night five, but we’ve visited Bryce, Grand Canyon and Zions in one trip. Arches, 4 corners, horseshoe monument, Lee’s ferry and Glen canyon dam in another, then did Yellowstone last year. Next year it’s the Redwoods. We absolutely love the National parks!! I definitely want to visit the rest of the mighty 5. Really enjoyed tagging along with you folks.
On my travels through Utah a few months ago I was bee-lining it to Moab through this area and as soon as hit Capitol Reef I stopped and couldn't believe it. Ended up staying there three days before I continued to Moab. Incredibly gorgeous.
Just got back a week ago from the five national parks in Utah. This video makes me want to turn around and go right back! I flew into the St. George Airport from Daytona with a short stop over in Dallas Fort Worth.. it was so nice to see you and Cheryl again and your family and also Dennis and Clare in this video. I did get to visit Stone Canyon State Park in St. George and then we were off to Zion. Hiked along the Virgin River. The Narrows was closed due to the swift running river. You sure know where to find the good pie stops! I did enjoy eating mine at the Gifford House. I also visited Goblin Valley State Park and Dead Horse State Park. Stopped in Green river to see the John Wesley Powell museum and ate at the Tamarist. Sunrise at Bryce was one of the highlights of my trip. Your videos are the best! So informative with wonderful suggestions.
I really appreciate the reminder about water and food! I think that's easy to overlook and can be so critical. Even short hikes in hot temps require a lot of hydration
Really enjoyed following this video (along with many of your others). We're heading over from Perth (Western Australia) in May-June and will be visiting Utah's Mighty Five including quite a number of the stops you visiting on your trip (sadly we will miss a few that looked cool - especially in Escalante National Monument - as relying a rental means unpaved roads are off limits). Watching this has helped boost the excitement, including for all the pie!! We start in San Francisco, dropping in to Pinnacles and Joshua Tree National Parks, on to Vegas, do the Mighty Five, then continue from Arches to Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest National Park, Sedona, Grand Canyon (North and South), Page, Arizona's stretch of Route 66, Great Basin, the Loneliest Highway, Lake Tahoe before finishing back up in SF. Can't wait!!
Outstanding video. My wife and I visited Zion NP, Canyonlands NP, Arches NP, Bryce NP and a couple other parks last spring (May 2023) It was still cold but since the visitors were not very many we had a good time Beautiful vacation spots. Stayed at a hotel in ST George. the only problem was we did a waveby. We are 76 and too old to hike. I guess we missed some of the most beautiful sites. We want to do it again sometime. You guys have one of the best videos around. Keep up the good work.
Hello Becca and Matt. Just came to say thank you. We bought the 1 day itinerary for Zion and Bryce from you guys. We were able to see so many things in one day.We had an amazing vacation in Utah. Springdale is such a beautiful town. We loved the people in Utah, they were so friendly.
I'm doing the same thing next month. Starting in St. George. Hitting all 5 national parks on my road trip. Thank you guys for this video. Looks like I'm gonna have more things on my plate to see and do.
This is so informative!! We are wanting to go early May, which hopefully won't be as busy since school won't be out yet. At 62 I'm not sure I can do all the climbing you guys did so I'm thankful you showed things I might not get to see. I hope we can stop at some of the amazing state parks but not sure how to do that with our 3 dogs. If we are camped they will stay in the camper but we can't venture too far or too long with them. All of these parks are just beautiful.
Thank you for your video. I like it. I like the places you have chosen. I wish one day i visit those picturesque places. Btw I am watching you from Russia
Thank you for all the great info. We just scored a permit for Angels Landing, and we are planning to visit the mighty five after watching this video! Much love from Houston, TX
Thanks for sharing, we visited and be in the big 5 form april 28 till May 16th. It was awsome! back to the Netherlands now, but we will be back, also visited Fruita! great tip!
I just came upon your video for the first time and enjoyed it very much. We have been to UT and saw 3 out of 5 and no state parks. Thank you for the tips , we are excited to go back to UT this spring .
If you ever visit South Africa (SA), be sure to rent an RV to travel through and stay over in the various Provinces and National Parks. There are loads of sightseeing opportunities and lookout points throughout our beautiful country and it’s National Parks. Your video made me think of Bourke’s Luck potholes in SA where the river have formed vortex like holes in the river bed. Also, in the same Province there is a so called Panorama Route where one can visit the many waterfalls in the area. So much more beauty to behold. Enjoy.
I'm putting together a trip for November for Arches, the Monument Alley drive and ending in Zion all from Minnesota and your videos have already been a big help and I've just started planning. Thanks!
this was such an amazing video! my bf and I are going to Utah at the end of may for our anniversary. this was extremely helpful and is getting us super excited!!!!
Hi-You both make the best videos and I have used them to plan a few trips. Also you are very lucky to experience your trip with your kids and the parents
Thank you for an informative and entertaining video! 🙏❤ Husband and I plan to do the UT 5 NPs! I also have family coming this April where we'll be staying in St. George, UT before going to Zion NP. Great places to check out in the nearby areas. Matt, I have that very same Delicate Arch t-shirt! 😆
Love your videos and your love for each other and your family. We are going to utah and to the grand canyon the end of September and the beginning of October. Your videos have been very helpful. Problem is, I keep finding more and more places to see and now have to decide which ones will have to wait.
Great video! My family and I just got back from a trip to Utah. We spent 3 nights at Zion lodge and 2 nights at Bryce and 1 night at Capital reef. Your videos helped me tremendously in planning my trip to Utah. Keep up the amazing videos.
I really, really appreciate and enjoy all your videos! Your style is so natural and genuine - like I can imagine that’s how I would be if I were to do what you do. I’m an older experienced amateur photographer with wedding, sports, and a dabbling in wildlife experience (currently wildlife is my main interest. I have a camper van which lends itself for nimble travel like your truck camper. I notice in your videos you seem to find campsites fairly easily near your shooting location. We were in the Tetons this past September and didn’t see any places where we could just pull off for the night. How do you find where to spend the nights in your photography areas. Again, you have a very refreshing style on UA-cam!
Hi guys, thank you for all this helpful information, we are going for a Utah and Arizona road trip for 3 weeks, we appreciate your videos, I'm so scared of snake 🐍 hopeful I don't see any😅 my love for the Beaty of this country is making me face my fears 😂
We arrive for five days in "The Mighty Five" in two weeks so this was a very timely video for us. Keeping our fingers crossed that the Narrows in Zion will be open for hiking. Hopefully your next video will be out before we leave as we will be crossing the Rockies from Pueblo West to Moab. Finally, I just finished reading "Death In Yellowstone" and I'm bringing "Over the Edge Death in Grand Canyon" to enjoy while eating my pie!
Thank you for this very informative video. My husband and I are retired 71 and 65 yo from Cda and we want to do the mighty five tour either 2025 or 2026. We are thinking spring or fall. what months do you recommend? Also we are campers. Is there campgrounds in the state parks? I am definitely going to look at purchasing your guides. Look forward to hearing from you.
If you want to add in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, you will want to travel when it's open (between May 15 - Oct 15). End of September/beginning of October is a nice time. Spring is really nice, too but if you want to hike the Narrows in Zion, it's possible the river could be closed due to spring runoff during April & May, sometimes even June.
Love this video. My family are visiting Utahs NP soon and we've used your videos to help plan our visit. I even purchased your itinerary. Thanks for all the information. I have one question that concerns me. Videos of the park has had some controversy lately. I noticed your video is very recent. What preparation did you use to insure your videos wouldn't get you into trouble ?
If you haven’t been to Hurricane Utah you have to stop by next time. They have an amazing state park called Sand Hollow. It’s majestic…. But what isn’t majestic in Utah 😁
This was the best video I've seen so far! I'm traveling thru from Yellowstone all the way down into Southern AZ in October. I only have 3 1/2 days to see all I can! I will most likely do the drive again but this time I'm restricted on days. Most of my viewing will be roadside or very short hikes. Any tips on the biggest bang for your bucks stops for this sort jaunt?
One of the easiest stops will be Bryce Canyon. Drive the 18-mile road in and out of Bryce Canyon and stop to look at the overlooks. Most of them are very close to the parking lot. Enjoy your quick drive through.
The same week you did this, we started at Capitol Reef and ended up at Zion Easter weekend stopping at most of those stops and the other ones you had in a video last year. You need to add the Pickle Pie and Pinto Bean Pie in Bicknell to your pie tour list. Though my wife did not like either one, I still call them "family favorites" She went for the Buttermilk Pie which was good, but came in third place in my book.
Great videos! We are going to visit Utah mighty 5 and your videos help a lot! BTW, what is the name of the location from which you can see the Capitol Reef NP and the Henry Mountains at the same time on Scenic Dr 12? It is on 27min of the video.
We are staying in Bryce Canyon area one night and then heading to Moab as you did in this video. Would you recommend staying 2 nights in between those areas? We were looking at capital reef and/or Boulder as an option. Awesome video!
Capitol Reef is a great place to visit so if you stay night between Bryce and Moab, do it near Capitol reef so you can see some of the area. 1 or 2 nights would be sufficient, depending on what you want to see and do in Capitol Reef. Enjoy.
Thank you so much for your video. I am planning a trip RT out of Vegas with my two kids. I was originally going to do Zion/Bryce/Page and Grand Canyon but after setting this video, I’m going to change our route. I noticed that someone bought a travel guide from you. Where can I find that? I would like to do this same route more or less. Trying now to figure out the Bryce-Willis Creek - to Escalante - which looks like over a 5 hour leg so I don’t think I have that part right. Can you please send me a link to your guides to purchase? Thanks again for your videos, I really enjoy watching them, you are so detailed and your family is adorable. Thanks again!
Hello I am coming out west from Oklahoma and I am driving in one day from Grand Junction to Pahrump Nevada and I am wanting to see some sights in Utah. My plan was to take scenic 12 and perhaps the Mount Carmal Junction but I worry I will not have the time to do both. Which do you think has the better views if you could only do one?
So what kind of vehicle can be driven on the roads. Is it truck - 4 wheel, RV , A, B, C. Car is it possible to dry camp? What about Rest stops, I'm not from Utah so more info.
A passenger vehicle can get you most everywhere you need. There are a few dirt roads in Capitol Reef and Canyonlands that a 4wd might be nice but other than that, a car is fine. Check out Campendium.com for more info about dry camping: www.campendium.com/utah/free-camping
Good to know that Weeping Rock is open again. Do you know if it's possible to take that way to reach Observation Point? Apparently until recently, you had to take the East Rim to get there. And was there still snow at Bryce NP? When did you go there, just now? Thanks for your vids!!!
Each park might have different accessibility. If you go to the website of each park you plan to visit, you can see what accessibility they have. Go to Plan Your Visit > Accessibility. Good luck!
Once again thank you so much for your video❤ we may visit Zion, Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon in 2025.My preference goes to September.October is risky isn't it? Please tell me Young Travelers. Kisses from France 🇫🇷
Have you ever thought about making videos that are specific to handicapped or people with mobility issues? We are coming next year to Yellowstone (I know this is not a Yellowstone video but it’s your most recent) and my mom has 2 bad knees so we are thinking about getting her a wheel chair but there’s no videos on handicapped friendly places or paved trails thanks
@@WereintheRockies. I was only because While we were there on March 29th, an old video of yours was posted on Capitol Reef on my feed. I commented on it, and you all replied, "Yot Here" I took it as here in Utah but seeing this thought maybe you were there the same time we were, and I would have loved to have had the opportunity to thank you both in person for the excellent service you provide for folks, I have shared many times, but I hope you enjoy my gratitude. I am visually impaired and love to plan trips for my family. Our first big trip was to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. The trip was flawless, and when my wife asked how I planned such a fantastic trip, I started by saying, "Let me tell you about a wonderful couple from Utah." From the bottom of my heart, Thank you!. These 2 tiny words do not capture my full gratitude. It really means the world to me. Much love to you both!
@@WereintheRockies We did this trip the week before. I loved watching your videos as I prepared for the trip. My husband just had a coworker inquire about our trip. We sent them this new video to help them plan.
You can pick up a handful of "potshards" Typically an elevation of 4000 ot 6000 feet and if it each piece were dated accurately the range would be as old 25000 years. And, often as young as 500 years. It suggests a huge fresh water lake that covered the area known as southern Utah and Nevada and Northern New Mexico and Arizona. The best camping night around Moab can be on a sand bar at the Colorado River or in a alpine LaSalle Forrest at 10,000 feet. One of the attractions is the surgically clean sand. You can roll in it and feel cleansed either when dry or wet on the river. I have drank the water from the river when you had to let solids settle in a one quart mason jar. Living in San Diego or Arizona, you wake up not knowing whether it is summer, winter, spring or fall. in the Moab area, the time of year is obvious. The Glen Canyon Dam has turned the four corners area into a wonderland with the rainfall more than doubling. Additionally, the recreational possibilities has brought people to the area that I knew as an empty wasteland. Iguana
nice country and ,please and please be careful about natural disaster in your country but i wish you are fine and have a nice day with peace and have a good healthcare and going an oher country and no death in your country
Hi I have a question, If you have The Interagency Access Pass do you have to pay any other fees like a parking fee or do you just enter and show you card? I am very confused if each park requires a fee to park as well as an entrance fee. Can you clarify? Thank you. BTW love your videos!
Your Access Pass will allow you to enter all National Parks for free. Parking inside each national park is free as well. However, if you are traveling to a national park that is very crowded, like Zion, the parking inside the park is limited and many visitors have to park outside the national park and shuttle into the park. In this case, there may be a parking fee to park along the road or in a parking lot (in the neighboring city). I hope this helps.
Hello everyone! Can anyone help me with ideas on which is the safest road to travel Yellowstone? In case of car breakdown. My family and I are thinking starting from salt lake city... staying near the airport, then drive to Yellowstone. My son is more interested in fishing at at safe lake..since there could be bears etc... And where to stay safe , a lodge, resort etc. We have a day/2 days before heading back to California Thank you, Thank you 🤗🤗
From Salt Lake drive all the way up to Yellowstone on I-15. Any of the lodges or resorts will be safe. Camping poses some threat but is pretty safe too. Have a great time!
Did you get the commercial filming permit? What is the secret to getting approved to film in the national parks? I see you are a lot bigger channel than we are. The red tape is crazy with the parks to get the filming permit.
It’s a nightmare. It’s so annoying. Apply well in advance because it takes them forever sometimes. And each park is different. No predictable process. Sometimes I’ve had to challenge them a bit on their interpretation of the rule. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
This is an awesome video that really breaks it all down so well. Great job! I am currently dog-sitting for my cousin and her family while the do a massive 3 week trip out west, including these Utah stops (she has a brother-in-law that lives in St. George). Can't wait to hear their experience, not sure they're as prepared as they could have been with videos like these. I do have a big question. A recent video, ua-cam.com/video/37Hmd-VkMIM/v-deo.html, about park overcrowding that was very informative and incredible to think about but I have no idea what solutions could be presented to curb this. What are your thoughts on this growing big problem? As Utah natives, what's your unique perspective? Obviously you welcome and encourage folks like me but when is it too much? I know you did a Zion crowds video but the general subject of park overcrowding and how to help it would make for an interesting video maybe.
As a kid, mom would take us every year to a national park. Zion was the first when I was 5. We did zion a bunch more times til our last camping trip before I got out of high school. How fun!
Lived in the west all my life, NM, CO,WY, UT, AZ and NV. Utah has the best parks hands down! Zion is my favorite!
Having fun , spending time, and having adventures, with family and friends is what its all about ,
Of all the road trip videos of the Southwest this one is the best. A good subtitle would be "eating our way thru Utah" and the kids' attitude "I like mud" and sense of adventure was delightful. Subscribed and looking forward to more scenic wonders.
Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!! Love your idea for the subtitle. Hmmm, maybe need to bring you on as a title consultant!

Nice video. We won’t get to Utah for many years, but I love how authentic your family and love of our country’s landscape is.

This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this beautiful trip and wholesome content.

Utah is a must-visit state as it has so many national parks.
Just in time for our trip at the end of the month! Woohoo!
Have a great time.
Your channel rules! I love that you go into detail with these places in your videos. Most channels dont really do that.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching 💗

Yay! Thank you for letting us know! We're glad our itineraries treated you well. Hopefully you make it back to Utah one day.
Thank you for your pronunciation of Zion the correct way. Zion. Just like Lion.
I'm doing the same thing next month. Starting in St. George. Hitting all 5 national parks on my road trip.
Thank you guys for this video. Looks like I'm gonna have more things on my plate to see and do.
Have fun and good luck!
Agree on the Iowa roads. I installed Sumo springs on our Ram 2500 and helped with the bounce,,easy install
Love this video. Great job filming. My wife and did a very similar this spring and did many of the same things. Fun to remember
Heading there soon and can't love this video enough ❤
Great information!
I have that same Utah Rocks shirt! I love it. So comfy.
Best video we’ve seen in a while 😊thanks!!!
Wow, thanks!
We visited the Mighty 5 last fall over a 2 week period. It was a fantastic trip!
Oh i love all of this video. I can’t wait to go back!!!
Wow, even winter has crowds….the snow makes the red rocks stunning. Hopefully one can find actual healthy food there in the parks?
This is such a great video!! I’m only halfway through and enjoying every part of this trip with y’all!!
The “Where’s Waldo” in-real-life game is so fun!
Thanks so much!
I love your family, your videos, and the way you provide what we need with out a lot of falderol, as my mom would say. Great job!
Thank you

you missed Cedar Break National Monument! Such a beautiful place!!
Good - you found a salad! Great video.

One of the easiest stops will be Bryce Canyon. Drive the 18-mile road in and out of Bryce Canyon and stop to look at the overlooks. Most of them are very close to the parking lot. Enjoy your quick drive through.
I’m not sure what kind of camera you guys use, looks awesome! Another great vid!
We use our iPhone 14 Pro Max. Thanks for watching.
How are you afraid of heights and did this road?! I’m terrified of heights and wouldn’t even get in with anyone else driving it! ☺️
Love it! Thanks for the suggestions
Great videos! We are going to visit Utah mighty 5 and your videos help a lot! BTW, what is the name of the location from which you can see the Capitol Reef NP and the Henry Mountains at the same time on Scenic Dr 12? It is on 27min of the video.
I believe it's Hogan Pass Overlook. Thanks for watching, enjoy your trip!
BEAUTIFUL DISCRIPTIONS
Can you pls share lodging also
thanks
Thanks for the suggestion and for watching.
Enjoy.
Hi great video to enjoy and want to know what the restaurant or café that you ordered a huge fat french toast?
Thanks for watching! Bear Paw Cafe was the French toast. :)
😂whos ever b having 😅 🎉
Great video
Thanks 😊 🙏

Good luck planning your trip. You are going to love it!
How many miles per day do you think you did and do you think that was too much, not enough or "just right"...
I would drive the Zion to Mt Carmel Road. Have fun.
Can’t go all the way to the top from weeping rock currently.
Just wondering, how many snakes do you see on your hikes ? Thanks for all your trips.
I've lived in Utah my whole life and have only seen a couple snakes while hiking.
very nice video !!...my soon handicap is coming next year 2025 on March . And all parks has wheelchair access ?? tky
Each park might have different accessibility. If you go to the website of each park you plan to visit, you can see what accessibility they have. Go to Plan Your Visit > Accessibility. Good luck!
@@WereintheRockies ….i will do for sure 👍🏽 Tky for the response
Hi. What time of year was this trip?
what kind of camera do you use. and keep it up
Hi! We use an iPhone 14 Pro Max
What time of year did you do your trip? BTW love the video planing an early October trip to the 5
The beginning of April. Have a great time. You're going to love it.
Once again thank you so much for your video❤ we may visit Zion, Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon in 2025.My preference goes to September.October is risky isn't it? Please tell me Young Travelers. Kisses from France 🇫🇷
October is best! Gorgeous time
Have you ever thought about making videos that are specific to handicapped or people with mobility issues? We are coming next year to Yellowstone (I know this is not a Yellowstone video but it’s your most recent) and my mom has 2 bad knees so we are thinking about getting her a wheel chair but there’s no videos on handicapped friendly places or paved trails thanks
I made one just for you already! Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/jMm-MumWs8s/v-deo.html
@@WereintheRockies ok great! Thank you
Love this video (and all of your videos). Were you all in Capitol Reef National Park on March 29th this year?
Now, we were there the beginning of April
@@WereintheRockies. I was only because While we were there on March 29th, an old video of yours was posted on Capitol Reef on my feed. I commented on it, and you all replied, "Yot Here" I took it as here in Utah but seeing this thought maybe you were there the same time we were, and I would have loved to have had the opportunity to thank you both in person for the excellent service you provide for folks,
I have shared many times, but I hope you enjoy my gratitude. I am visually impaired and love to plan trips for my family. Our first big trip was to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. The trip was flawless, and when my wife asked how I planned such a fantastic trip, I started by saying, "Let me tell you about a wonderful couple from Utah."
From the bottom of my heart, Thank you!. These 2 tiny words do not capture my full gratitude. It really means the world to me.
Much love to you both!
Oh wow, you’re so nice! We appreciate you and we’re so happy we could help you in some way.

What month was this? We are going at the end of May and you guys look like you are dressed for cold weather. Wondering if we should do the same?

We have a day/2 days before heading back to California
Thank you, Thank you 🤗🤗
From Salt Lake drive all the way up to Yellowstone on I-15. Any of the lodges or resorts will be safe. Camping poses some threat but is pretty safe too. Have a great time!
I need pie now
Haha, yes you do.
@@WereintheRockies Thanks for your reply; we are in the midst of the process now.
Where did you stay?
Maybe I missed it? Was this trip in May?
It was the first week of April 2023

Zion gives out Darwin Awards annually. Count me in. We all need some danger!
Have to get a permit to get your Darwin Award though.
So many national parks in Utah.that aren't even mentioned
Don't just plan on switching keys, have extra keys with you. I know that you will see each other but... what if you don't.
Good idea!
Considering the name of the rock, I wonder how many were suicidal?
Thanks for watching.
We're not sure what to do about it but we do know that reservation's have helped.
My dad fell off a rock in devils garden and Broke 2 ribs and a elbow 25:25
