Imagine a 45 year old Brit crying his eyes out for most of this concert. I was at this gig and was emotionally drained by the end of it. It took me 3 days to recover.
@@robertcartier5088 Me too! I was living in Montreal back then. I fled after the great ice storm. Saw them also in Manchester, England in ‘88. Amazing experiences!
This was recorded at the Pulse concert in Earls Court, London. This was one of the final tracks played, the entire concert is overwhelming in a good way. So much energy and talent throughout.
People often say that David's guitar is singing to them. At the end of the spotlights on the ball sequence where he picks up the pace the guitar sounds like it's singing 'GLITTERBALL' repeatedly, and singing 'OPEN' repeatedly at the first reveal of the central light. I don't know if thats by accident or design, but if by design then it is pure genius.
What is happening is you just watched the greatest guitar solo ever from the best song ever from the best band ever. I can't count how many times I have watched this video or listened to this song-and I still get goose bumps. If you are not familiar with PF, I can't recommend enough that you start listening to all their masterpieces.
I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday.
First live PF show was at The Second British Rock Gathering, Germersheim, Germany in May, 1972! A 3-day fest! They closed Saturday night! Their opening song? ONE OF THESE DAYS! With a light show and pyrotechnics! I'll never forget it! Although, the 3 hits of Acid might have helped.😊
this was played 14 days in a row sold out. Saw 5 times. 200,000 watts of power, 128 wireless speakers, 200 ton stage, 53 semis to move. Disco ball is a FU to music critics who said they will not make it as they don't play dance music. Remember this was 1994 and their last tour. Greg Phillinganes ( Micheal Jackson musical director) saw this and commented that they are on a whole different level.
The mirror ball opens to reveal a diamond that represents Syd Barrett, who's also the subject of the song Shine on you crazy diamond. Saw this tour in Atlanta, it was magical
Saw the show live in Chicago that year. Performed at an outdoor stadium before roughly 60,000 people. As if the already incredible light show wasn't enough, we had the added benefit of lightning accompanying that solo. As if God himself wanted to get in on the act. Out of body experience!! ⚡ Check out "High Hopes" live from this Pulse concert next.
@@michaelhowell7275 they didn't allow the lasers at Soldier Field as I recall due to its proximity to Meigs Field - the nearby executive airport at the time. @@michaelhowell7275 no, the lasers are those very thin streaks of brightly colored lights you see at the very beginning of the video pointed toward the sky. Powerful enough to blind pilots if pointed directly at them. Between O'hare and Meigs Field the city considered their use too dangerous at that location and refused to give them permits to use them. They also refused to shut down air space around Soldier Field. Leaving Chicago laser-less. But I didn't really miss them.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school here in North Carolina when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend and I at the time loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife loved concerts as well during that time. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
I never realised until recently that while the first guitar solo is the character Pink's personal torment, the second is his 'concert solo'. It's key to the whole Wall album storyline as well as standing up as one of the greatest ever rock tracks in its own right. You could always watch the movie, too!
I was given this on VHS for christmas the year it came out and I almost wore the tape out. I then got the DVD when that became available and it is one of my treasures along with the CD of the soundtrack. There is no comparison...
I had the chance to see this show two evenings in a row, on (May 23 and 24, 1994) at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. Luckily I saw it twice, because there was so much to see and hear, it became easy to miss something. I was thus able to see this show from two very different points of view, once up close and once further away.
How many people are there? That's Earl's Court in London and it seats just over 19,000! Pink Floyd sold the place out 15 nights in a row at that venue which is nearly 300,000 people!
There is no pain , you are receding. David IS the Stratocaster Master. His sweet big bends and use of the tremolo...amazing. Disco ball had to have been shocking for audience. Mesmerizing.

I really enjoy watching reaction videos on this concert. I was in attendance at a different location. Amazing stage and light show. Great music. Every reaction is like being there. Thousands of people all having similar reactions. Brings back fond memories. Thank you.
Definitely one of the most amazing stages ever. They long said the Hollywood Bowl was one of their favorite venues to play and this stage is an actual size reproduction of it. They had two full stages so while they performed in one city, a stage was being constructed in the next city and the two stage crews hopscotched past each other for the entire tour. I was lucky to see them twice on that 1994 tour.
Of tours I’ve seen, U2’s “Pop Tour” was comparable. But, there are few bands with Floyd or U2’s wallet or stature. Especially in the ‘90s. Who else is doing spectacle on this scale?
Another class act to watch is Fleetwood Mac,So afraid from 2015.I saw Lindsay Buckingham do it live and it gave me Goosebumps...A similar vibe to this...Two masters of their art at their very best.
I feel I should relay this story. It is not mine, but it bears repeating as it is the best description of the solos in this song. A couple was listening to this song. The guy turned to the girl at the beginning of the first solo in the tune and said, "This is the second greatest solo ever recorded." She replied, "So, what is the greatest?" The guy turned to her with tears in his eyes and said, "It starts in about a minute." This performance of this song is beyond iconic. Nothing will ever be like that again. I saw this show. (Not at Earl's Court... more's the pity...) To say it was life changing is to make light of what I experienced. And, this band has been changing my life since 1967. "When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse... out of the corner of my eye."
I seen him play at Ohio State Stadium 🏟️ Over 150 Thousand People probably closer to 200 Thousand People Easy. That's a 1 Million Dollar Light Show Equipment!!!!! If your are a classical guitarist, you must listen to country singer, yes I wrote country, Roy Clark playing the Malagueña live, it’s mesmerizing. Don’t let his persona fool you, he is a very talented guitarist.
Great reaction Brother. You enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I saw this. David Gilmore on Red and white Fender Stratocaster is a true BADDASS Wizard on guitar. He's just next level. One of the top ten for sure. Maybe top five. Pink Floyd has always been outrageous in their style of Trippy music Like your in the spiritual realm I think it's ZEPPELIN the Floyd as far as the top two British rock bands Zepp Floyd then The Stones Cream and so on.
The stage is incredible, isn't it? What's really incredible is that this stage was built and is owned by Pink Floyd, and there were 3 of these stages! Yes, 3 identical stages, Lighting, Rigs, Sound System, Giant Disco ball, video circle of lights, everything you see and hear,... they built and used 3 of them! The stages was modeled after the old Hollywood Bowl, they were 180 feet long with a 130-foot-high arch. These 3 identical stages leapfrogged across North America and Europe in 1994, during Pink Floyd's "The Division Bell" World Tour. They needed 3 stages because of the massiveness of the Tour, and the number of dates they were performing. They played over 60 concerts in the US and Canada alone, and it took a lot of time to set up and tear down such a mammoth production, it took 3 and 1/2 days at each venue to "load in", and another 2 full days to "load out". They had to have multiple stages to be able to do the over 60 concert dates in North America, when the band got to the city/venue, the stage was pretty much ready to go. The logistics of this Tour was massive and unpresented att, they had 53 trailer trucks transporting over 700 tons of steel, 161 fulltime crew members it was the largest Tour ever at the time.
2nd attempt at replying 🙂, they may no longer own it. I was talking to someone who works for Britannia Row, the sound and lighting company they owned. It's now American. He's young (18) , he didn't know they owned it.
In the album version, the magnificent final solo performed by the legendary David GILMOUR fades out, leaving from my point of view a feeling of incompleteness. I prefer the live version a thousand times more. Congratulations on the reacion. Teresa ITALY
What most people don’t realise is that the full guitar solo in this concert is 4 minutes long! Most ‘Pop’ songs are shorter than that! Pink Floyd are a band where you treat the entire album as one single song and listen to the whole thing in one sitting. The album takes you on a journey through your own head! This is a band you don’t listen to, you ‘Experience’ them. Their concerts are an epic events with music, lights and images that mess with your mind and if your listening at home Headphones are compulsory to get the best out of the hidden jewels and moments in their music.
Back then, Pink Floyd filled the Earls Court seven times within 14 days always with a day off to check the gigantic equipment and I saw this concert in 1994 in Cologne's soccer stadium, together with 75,000 fans. With my 63 years now I have been to dozens of partly very big concert events but what I was able to experience in Cologne has beaten everything. At that time a good friend of mine lived about 500m as the crow flies from the stadium and could see the arena directly from his balcony. He later told me , when the block with the encores: Wish you where here, Comfortably Numb and especially Run like hell - ua-cam.com/video/0dB6MQlFLu8/v-deo.html - was played, the whole stadium looked from the outside like the colorful glittering spaceship at the end of Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", because the light show could of course be seen from the outside through the distances between lower, middle and upper tier. After nearly 2 hours of watching and hearing it was clear to me that there is probably no more or better. And of course the overall experience of light and sound is inextricably linked. For example, when the sphere was still closed, it rotated and turned the stadium into a huge disco by the spotlights directed at it. When it opened, lasers were directed at it from various positions, reflected by the mirrors on it, which in turn were reflected back by mirrors fixed around the stadium roof and other mirrors distributed around the stadium near the ground, creating indescribable effects in the air above the audience. You can't see this on the concert video because they made these setups only in stadiums and really must have been there because it's literally indescribable ! In the preannouncement of the concert it was promised that, regardless of where one´s position in the stadium is, listen to at least stereo if not even Quatro. They implemented this advertising promise in such a comprehensive and impressive way that I will never forget this bombastic sound experience together with this indescribable light show. And to this day, when I hear "Comfortably Numb", especially during this inconceivable guitar solo i get goose bumps all over my body and it leads me to another dimension ! EVERYTIME What this concerts did to the audience could be seen at the end. The absolute majority of the audience, including us, left the stadium speechless and like numbed. This silence in the huge arena, which was interrupted only now and then by devout whispering, was really impressive. And on the drive backs to our hometown, not a single word was exchanged in the car, because everyone was still deep in their own "Pink Floyd world" Many wonder how the name "Comfortably Numb" came about. David Gilmore had injured his back shortly before a concert, whereupon a doctor was requested. He gave him an injection against the pain and something to relax the muscles. After the injection, he suddenly felt exactly the way he had felt as a child when he was sick. His hands felt like two filled balloons and overall he felt very very pleasantly dizzy after getting medicine. The problem was that with this feeling in his head and of course in his hands, he had to go on stage to play a concert. What can we say, the man is a professional and still rocked it out ? Two more perfect combinations of music and light - ua-cam.com/video/CK_BcyKOAt4/v-deo.html - ua-cam.com/video/pDKPz6KD8fs/v-deo.html
I flew from Australia just for the concert. a life changing experience, the second solo at the concert was 2 minutes longer than this version. it is on youtube but if i send the link it will be removed, just type in Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb Pulse Live Uncut Version
"Sorrow" from the same concert is possibly better - but the whole concert was enough to cement Pink Floyds place in the pantheon of modern musical greats. They opened with the song "High Hopes", something we all had, but now in todays age of cynicism and mediocrity that emotion seems unfortunately naive. I envy you discovering this music for the first time, keep going, there are so many wonderful emotions they evoke.
@65alef - I assume you mean during the '94 and '87-90 tours. They didn't ALWAYS but usually. Sometimes they opened with Astronomy Domine in '94, sometimes Echoes in '87. In '77 Shine On opened the second set, and it was never played '80-'81.
@martinellis7156 - High Hopes wasn't played until the third song at the earliest. Some shows it was played later in the night. It never opened the show.
Pink Floyd had an unlimited budget for the stage show. It was state of the art at the time. I saw this this tour, 4th row in Raleigh NC. The cost of the ticket was 64 bucks. How much are they paying to see a Taylor Swift show? It was about the music, not the money.

David Gilmour says he enjoys knowing how this makes us feel live. But he said imagine how it sounds to him as he is creating it live. That is magical.
That tour was amazing! 🤘😎
I couldn't believe what I was hearing and seeing... 😳🤪🤙
In the album version, the magnificent final solo performed by the legendary David GILMOUR fades out, leaving from my point of view a feeling of incompleteness.
I prefer the live version a thousand times more.
Congratulations on the reacion.
Teresa ITALY
try high hopes from the same concert
Best comment i ever heard " we thought he was the guy who had come to fix the boiler "
I thought it would put a smile on your face 😉

Dave Gilmour can make his guitar sing. That along with Roger Waters lyrics...... So very SPECIAL!
Perfect the one
Pink Floyd are a British national treasure legendary. Best solo ever david gilmore is a god .
Great reaction, man. Ty…
Their concerts are an epic events with music, lights and images that mess with your mind and if your listening at home Headphones are compulsory to get the best out of the hidden jewels and moments in their music.
for some reason this song solo reminded me of the outro solo of Gaia by Tiamat
EVERYTIME
What this concerts did to the audience could be seen at the end. The absolute majority of the audience, including us, left the stadium speechless and like numbed. This silence in the huge arena, which was interrupted only now and then by devout whispering, was really impressive. And on the drive backs to our hometown, not a single word was exchanged in the car, because everyone was still deep in their own "Pink Floyd world"
Many wonder how the name "Comfortably Numb" came about.
Thanks for the suggestioN!
The closing live solo is the closest thing I've ever heard to a good acid trip.
Another great solo is Fat Old Sun from Gilmour’s concert remember that night.
THE guitar solo of all rock history!
As someone else pointed out, this is mankind's greatest achievement 😉 👍
I flew from Australia just for the concert. a life changing experience, the second solo at the concert was 2 minutes longer than this version. it is on youtube but if i send the link it will be removed, just type in Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb Pulse Live Uncut Version
The Guitar God
"Sorrow" from the same concert is possibly better - but the whole concert was enough to cement Pink Floyds place in the pantheon of modern musical greats. They opened with the song "High Hopes", something we all had, but now in todays age of cynicism and mediocrity that emotion seems unfortunately naive. I envy you discovering this music for the first time, keep going, there are so many wonderful emotions they evoke.
They everytime opened their concerts with SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND and closed with RUN LIKE HELL...always
@@65alef I saw pink Floyd before Shine on you crazy diamond was even written
@65alef - I assume you mean during the '94 and '87-90 tours. They didn't ALWAYS but usually. Sometimes they opened with Astronomy Domine in '94, sometimes Echoes in '87. In '77 Shine On opened the second set, and it was never played '80-'81.
@martinellis7156 - High Hopes wasn't played until the third song at the earliest. Some shows it was played later in the night. It never opened the show.
Anything from this show is fire!!
The stage is suppose to be an eye. You’ll see the eyeball start to look down and the lights focus on David Gilmore. It’s pretty cool.
I love the way he laughs when he's speechless haha
Definitely do Sorrow from the same concert also Money, Time or US And Them. Or Keep Talking all from same pulse concert
I think they sold out Earl's Court 19 nights in a row and this after taking the show on a world tour!!
You need to watch Stevie Ray Vaughn, Life Without You live at the capital theater!!!
That was great. How bout trying Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” live from Oakland(I think in 1977)more amazing guitar work.
You don't go to a Pink Floyd concert just to "listen " to the music. Their concerts were whole-body experiences.
The greatest concert film ever!
Pink Floyd had an unlimited budget for the stage show. It was state of the art at the time. I saw this this tour, 4th row in Raleigh NC. The cost of the ticket was 64 bucks. How much are they paying to see a Taylor Swift show? It was about the music, not the money.
