It can honestly go either way. Curry is the greatest shooter because he's accurate even from the parking lot, but if it's a three point contest from the actual three point line, it might come down to a single shot.
I agree Curry is the greatest shooter of all-time because of his range and his ability to do it off the dribble. However, I'd take Klay or Ray in a 3 point contest. 3 point contest is about shooting a set shot from the 3 point line(not 5 feet beyond it) and for my money, I'd say Klay and Ray are better set shooters. I might even take a guy like Legler, Kerr or Korver even though those guys are 1/10th the players that Steph, Klay or Ray are. 3 point contest is different than in game shooting. With that all being said, I wouldn't be shocked if Steph got hot and hit 25 in a row. We are finding small differences between the best of all-time.
Steph Curry. I don’t understand why they keep trying to question Steph’s greatness like it’s not already proven. No disrespect to Ray but it’s quite clear now that Steph is the greatest shooter ever and we won’t ever see anyone like him again
Don't compare them because they are rise in different generation... Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Larry Bird, Peja Stojakovic, Steve Kerr, Tony Kukoc, Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan these guys are LEGEND in 3points... that's only my opinion because this is my time up to present... respect this guys because they are inspiring people generation by generation...
To be fair, Steph Curry has yet to be an old guy who is only the 4th option on his team, who gets ignored for that reason, and therefore gets a wide open shot in clutch time (off of an offensive rebound, no less). And also, don't make the definition of "clutch" too narrow. When you're down by 1 with 3 minutes to go, and you score 7 points in the next 90 seconds (including a 3-pointer), and your team is in control for the last minute, that IS clutch, even if you didn't hit a game-tying shot with under 10 seconds. And Steph has hit that kind of clutch 3-pointer in the Finals.
@@asterisk911 clutch is not what you defined it by. Clutch is when you hit a game winning or game tying shot while you were trailing in the last possession of the game. Steph has never hit that kind of 3. Ray Allen is clutch and has done it many times.
@@LazyCrazyGuy "Clutch" is not nearly as narrow a concept as you are trying to define it. People who are capable of getting paid for their opinions will call a big shot with 90 seconds left a "clutch" shot. Most people refer to Kyrie Irving's 3-pointer in game 7 as "clutch"... but it came with 53 seconds left. Anyway, you're wrong on the facts, not just the definition. If you're talking about the playoffs, then NO, Ray Allen hasn't done it "many" times. He's had a small sample size of them. And most of the ones you're presumably counting left time on the clock, so that the other team still got a chance to try to score. (His big game-tying Game 6 shot left the Spurs 5.2 seconds to try to break the tie). And Curry HAS tied a playoffs game with a 3 in the final 10 seconds, and has tied a Finals game with a 2-pointer in the last 10 seconds. (The 0-for-8 stat doesn't include game-tying shots. It does, though, include shots taken when the game was ALREADY tied, so that a miss simply means that it goes to overtime. And several of the shots it includes aren't even 3s.)
@@LazyCrazyGuy Clutch is hitting a shot in a game defining moment what you explained is a buzzer beater which can also be clutch but is not the only way to be clutch
I love Ray, been watching the league from the late 90's and whenever fans label Ray as just a shooter, clearly forgot or weren't alive to watch him for the Bucks or Sonics. Sneaky athleticism with a great handle. He became such an effective shooter as defenders were mindful of him finishing at the rim.
Curry's career 3pt percentage is almost 5% higher than Ray Allen's. And he attempts more threes per game than Allen did. It's Steph no doubt. Klay Thompson is a better 3pt shooter than Allen also. By the time their careers are over, Steph and Klay will be 1 and 2 on that list by a long shot.
Mark James your explanation just explained why it’s not a accurate comparison. Steph takes more 3’s than Ray did so of course his pctg is higher. If Ray played in today’s league his pctg would be higher.
At last, a player that understands the differences in eras of basketball instead of just blabbing about "..back in our time.." Ray Allen is a true student of the game..
Ray Allen already said Steph is the greatest shooter of alltime. No disrespect to anyone but the gap is so huge how much better Curry is than his competition it shouldn't really be a discussion anymore.
I am a huge ray allen fan.... He was the best 3pt shooter until, well, steph came along... He changed the way the game is bring played... He has a faster release and more range....
Stop going by stats you are prob under 25guarantee it. Reggie was better than ray just bc he surpassed him in 3pt lol people are such sheep. And ray is better than steph just not off the dribble at such a quick release but then again ray has a few inches and has a better form DOESNT need to shoot as quick. He was athletic too and could slam the basket and drove the lane way better. Curry is just flashier and can shoot the ball quicker. Not clutch, needs a team to perfectly orchestrate his offense. You can justify that with ray on the Celtics but not with the SuperSonics. And def not with Reggie. Def not more range than curry he just didn’t shoot that far during his career, doesn’t mean he didn’t have the range idiot just a different style of play different era back then.
@@jamesfreres5611 you look stupid, even without dunks Curry is around what? +55% under the basket? And he's fast, and better playmaker, not to mention Curry is above average defender. Learn the game my guy. You said he is below 25? 1st even if you're older doesn't mean you're smarter. 2nd you yourself are pretty unclever below 18 years old guy than
I too think Curry's better and it shouldn't be a debate by now, his true shooting percentages beats Ray's prime percentages. Prime Curry is shooting 10+ 3's a game on whopping a 43%. His value as an offensive threat is obviously greater and I forgot to count his effective range.
Curry's got better handles. No diss to Ray, he's a legend and will always be known to be one, if not the best shooter of his era. But Steph literally made the game change to his abilities.
All these comments acting like Curry ain’t clutch. Do your homework people. He’s the most clutch without a timeout, and the most clutch at the line. He’s also the greatest shooter (from anywhere on the court) period.
He did hit that 3 to tie vs the clippers or something like that Unfortunately he couldn't hit the last one of the game Also committed one turnover way before that And out of that lost possession clippers get very the points to tie the 31 or almost complete that shy of 1 pt.
I think his “clutch” argument falls short because of his 2016 choke. Switch Steph with prime Ray Allen in game 4-7 and he’s gonna get you at least one win.
RAY SEEMS LIKE HE COULD TUNE UP AND IN 6 MONTHS AND HOP BACK OUT ON COURT...AND STILL BE COMPETITIVE OR AT LEAST AVERAGE..!!...PROVIDED HES NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED..WHAT A .GREAT MAN ....
listen ANYONE could win on any day... obviously the question is asking who is really better and therefore who would win most of the time... otherwise it's a pointless question
Not Important NO. The question is asking who’d win in a 3-point contest. It’s in the title. Not whose better. Don’t change the meaning of the question to your own agenda. Besides, no disrespect to steph, but I’m sure Ray Allen could’ve hit way more threes if basketball in his time was like today. (Whereas threes are chucked up left and right, Miss or not) He literally said it himself, “if he hit 5 threes in a game he’d settled”
@@noahdann7915 The more you shoot the worse your FG% will be, since that means more contested shots and you will have to move more to get a good look, setting the fatigue factor in, that's especially important for people like Ray Allen who jumps high to shoot. Curry needs less time and energy to shoot, his off the dribble shot is better. Of course Ray would hit more threes today, but his percentage would drop unless he played in an elite system that creates open looks for multiple players. Look at his seasons where he took 7-8.5 threes a game, his percentage oscillated between 37 and 43%. Curry shoots on almost 44% on almost 12 attempts per game, that's crazy, and he never shot lower than 41 percent for a season. I haven't even started talking about his range, which changes the entire game plan. It is not just how many threes Curry hits or Ray would have hit, it is how Curry uses the shot to make an impact that makes him the best shooter ever. Through that impact he changed the game, he is why people shoot more now, that alone puts him above Ray (i.e. We're saying Ray would attempt more threes now only because Curry changed the game with his shot, which Ray did not). And through that impact he joined the 50-40-90 club, upgrading it 50-45-90. He is so above everyone that his shooting skills take him beyond being just a shooter. As for the question in the title, either could win. A mediocre shooter could beat both of them on a given day, it is a small sample and means nothing. But if they had like 1000 contests, Curry would win more than Ray.
@@noahdann7915 i don't have an agenda... if we go with the literal interpretation of that question it's A STUPID FUCKING QUESTION, because anyone could win in any random small sample trial... I COULD BEAT either of them once by luck... get over yourself and deal in reasonable reality, don't be that guy... the underlying query is who is a better 3 point shooter that would win the contest between both them more frequently don't be so obtuse
People Act as Curry doesn't have horrible shooting games lol if Curry doesn't come close to making all shots he will lose to Ray in a 3pt contest...I like Curry he's a special player but we can't act Allen wasn't a Deep Threat Assassin and all around player like back during his buck days

@@blackson01 I know I'm late to the convo, but Steph's won chips being a primary option at the very least. And his Finals/playoffs numbers are still tremendous despite his shortcomings at times. Ray, while he has a great case, was never a primary option in "those moments" you speak of, since that duty went to guys like Pierce, Garnett, and eventually Lebron.
This is a subtle way of taking from Steph Curry. Listen between the lines of what they are saying. "Oh if I shot as much as these guys are shooting today...." Steph Curry just past Ray Allen in playoff 3's made but did it in about half the time. Curry is by far the best shooter of all time. He can shoot the 3 in every way. He's not just a post and pop shooter. Curry is constantly cutting and moving with the ball or without the ball. His has a much deeper range and is more consistent in that deep range. Ray Allen was more of a catch and shoot type. Reggie Miller was a more slash and cut through the defense catch and shoot type. Steph Curry can do it all as well as create off the dribble by himself. Steph will pass Ray and Reggie very soon, and he's still in his prime.
The first "super team" was when Gary Payton and Karl Malone went to the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe. They just didn't win a title, so we completely forget about that year.
Ray was a Cold, smooth, 3 point Shooter, but when have you ever seen him make "105" 3 pointers straight, in practice? Come on.....Curry is on another planet.
I would choose Stephen especially if it’s a timed challenge because he has a quicker shot but ultimately I choose Stephen curry over Ray Allen even if it isn’t
I`m not sure how I ended up here, but since I`m here I might as well give my opinion on the topic. I remember watching Ray Allen play and he was a phenomenal shooter, BUT the way Curry can shoot a ball is nothing less than unbelievable. I have to agree with those who say that he is the greatest shooter to ever step on a basketball court. It is not an overstatement to say that he has changed the game of basketball.

Well so does Curry. You're telling me that you see Curry launch a potential game-winner and you don't hold your breath, yet you do when Ray does it? Curry may not be quite as clutch as Ray but let's not act like he hasn't made game-winners or game-tying shots many times before.
@@illuminatei6071 Sure, but Curry's not that far off when you consider Ray's most clutch moments came when he was a 3rd or 4th scoring option, often off of catch-and-shoot plays created by teammates, which makes it a lot easier. GS doesn't need to rely on clutch shots more often than not. Their playoff wins were mostly blowouts and the same goes for their finals wins. Not quite sure where ya'll are getting this from?

I might even take a guy like Legler, Kerr or Korver even though those guys are 1/10th the players that Steph, Klay or Ray are. 3 point contest is different than in game shooting. With that all being said, I wouldn't be shocked if Steph got hot and hit 25 in a row. We are finding small differences between the best of all-time.
Steph has competed in 3-point shooting contest all his life and has won zero. Let that sink in for a moment.

He has actually hit a clutch 3 in the finals
@@LazyCrazyGuy Ray has also choked plenty of times too but we are just gonna ignore that to hate on Curry, right??

Ray Allen was once in the Dunk Contest. Now I'm not saying that he did well but he participated.

Ray Allen is very humble when it comes to how great he actually was.

Higher angle arcs. High arching shot has more accuracy to shoot.

All these comments acting like Curry ain’t clutch. Do your homework people. He’s the most clutch without a timeout, and the most clutch at the line. He’s also the greatest shooter (from anywhere on the court) period.
Lmao anywhere on the court ??? IDK bro he can get blocked up front so...
Edward Russell nice
He did hit that 3 to tie vs the clippers or something like that
Unfortunately he couldn't hit the last one of the game
Also committed one turnover way before that
And out of that lost possession clippers get very the points to tie the 31 or almost complete that shy of 1 pt.
Man Ray Allen looks younger now then he did playin ball.
On any given day, either one of them may win. Whoever woke up feeling better and in rhythm lol Steph may win today but not tomorrow. Vice versa IMHO
listen ANYONE could win on any day... obviously the question is asking who is really better and therefore who would win most of the time... otherwise it's a pointless question
I COULD BEAT either of them once by luck... get over yourself and deal in reasonable reality, don't be that guy... the underlying query is who is a better 3 point shooter that would win the contest between both them more frequently
don't be so obtuse
People Act as Curry doesn't have horrible shooting games lol if Curry doesn't come close to making all shots he will lose to Ray in a 3pt contest...I like Curry he's a special player but we can't act Allen wasn't a Deep Threat Assassin and all around player like back during his buck days
