  • Rachel Nichols of The Jump details the incredible 51-point performance from Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry (that included 11 3-pointers) vs the Washington Wizards, after which Kevin Durant said Steph's lack of presence in the NBA MVP discussion is motivating him. Nichols, Paul Pierce and Tracy McGrady then discuss whether Steph can be a legitimate MVP candidate with KD on his team.

    Larry Bird once recorded 30 pts, 12 rebs, 10 asts, 9 stls, & 2 blks by the 3rd quarter of a blowout game against the 1985 Jazz. When asked about whether he wanted to go back in the 4th quarter to get one more steal for the quadruple-double, he responded: "I already did enough damage." Same w/ Steph's 11 threes in this game.

    Then people say he doesn't show up in the postseason. He should have won FMVP in 15 and 18. The only finals he played bad in he was hurt in 16. In 17 he averaged a triple double in the finals.

      Defensively he's nothing to brag about but his offense is so suffocating his team doesn't even have to try their hardest on defense because they are already up 15 or 30 smh. In the regular season anyway..he tends to struggle in the playoffs most of his career..still he is already an all time great player ..think about this..he is already 5th all time is made threes..how long has he been in the league? He may not only break the three points made but maybe even the all time scoring record. His game doesn't involve him being physical to score. Its finesse. He can last as long as Lebron and is already as dominate as Lebron can be.

    One. Same thoughts as Piercer. Yes they are stocked and most likely the possession will be distributed to these great players. Scoring high would be difficult and each player having 20 is enough. But despite that, he still scores around 30s. That is something else.
    Two. He is on the process of producing future lead warrior players so he'd rather let them play (while he also avoids unnecessary injuries) and gain confidence and train. That is just so amazing as a captain. He's looking also for the long term goals.
    Three. It's still early in the season and he has already broken a few records. We have a year to look forward into. Being lined up with retired vets is something else. If he keeps this up, this really should be his year!
    Taking him out from the run is unfair just bec he's in the best team with other great players. Coz obviously, he still got the fire despite the company. He makes the team on fire. His teammates and team staff know that. They respect him. You, also give him the respect he deserves. #StephMVPcandidate

    Tracy McGrady trying to claim later in this segment that he'd be one of the best 3 point shooters in history and would have scored 40-50 points a game in the current NBA just makes me cringe. Guy was a 33% career 3 point shooter. Taking more 3s would (on average) lower his percentage, not increase it. And McGrady was only taking situational 3s when he was open, when a 3 was a high percentage shot. He wasn't doing what Curry does, taking threes off the dribble with a defender on him or shooting from 30+ feet over two defenders. These old heads can be so delusional. Also, during McGrady's highest 3pt attempts per game season when he took almost 8 3s a game, he only shot 34% from 3, so his delusion that shooting more 3s would make him a more efficient shooter is just false. Curry has averaged almost 8 3-point attempts a game over his career and averages 43%, almost 10% higher than McGrady shooting the same volume.

      They did not practice shooting 3 point shots nearly as much or almost not at all. That is like saying Wilt would suck at today's NBA. Maybe if you build a time machine and bring him here directly , but if he was born in this era had same access to modern coaching , food , workout and training he would probably dominate.
      With lack of defense and fast pace of modern NBA and with much more practice in 3pt shooting like players now do , I could see T-Mac scoring 40 points a game.

    • @brandonb.5304
      @brandonb.5304 6 років тому

      Dude, I just gave you evidence that he's not a good three point shooter. When McGrady averaged 8 3s a game during one season, he only shot 34%. Curry, who averages 8 3s a game over his career, is a 43% shooter. McGrady could not do what Curry is doing. Stop this delusion. Being a career 33% 3-pt shooter is not being a "beast" on the outside lmao.

    • @brandonb.5304
      @brandonb.5304 6 років тому

      Makyura43 You are so delusional. LeBron, KD, etc. are better than McGrady ever was and they're not even averaging 40, or even close to it. Please stop this moronic delusion. And if all it took was practice, then why isn't anyone else shooting the ball the way Curry does? You act like all it takes is some practice and everyone can shoot it like Curry. Give me a break.

    • @brandonb.5304
      @brandonb.5304 6 років тому +1

      Starscream I have stats. HE WAS NOT A GOOD THREE POINT SHOOTER. His career percentage is 33%. Your anecdotal narrative that you remember him "making threes like layups" is just laughably false. I'm sure you saw a game he played on TV where he made a bunch of threes and shot a great percentage, but that was an outlier. His career percentage is very low for a supposedly great shooter. Statistics can't lie. He was a below average shooter from 3. In the season he averaged 8 three point shots a game (2008), his career high, he shot 34%; the league average from 3 that season was 36%. I reiterate. He was not....good...at three point shooting.

    Someone put an article out a while ago that obviously people who vote for MVPs don’t know or watch actual games, it is HARDER to play at a higher level, in terms of stats, with good players versus bad players. Obviously his numbers down from when he won unanimous but that’s relative to what KD was taking up. Take KD off the years following his last MVP season and give some shots back to steph, he would have averaged MORE ppg than his unanimous MVP season, which was 31. But again it’s about the story...only LABron and Steph are deserving of MVPs since 2011 and if you disagree then you’re bias, which understandable but wish people at least admit it.

    As soon as Lebron has a 50 point game this season they will completely forget about Curry potentially being MVP

      @@baochu7688 I'm a Lebron fan for sure.. That being said, I hate how the media portrays him as a godly figure. It gets old.

      That’s if Lebron can score 50 . He hasn’t had a crazy game yet . KD , steph , and Klay all had crazy games so far 🧐 I think they will be just fine and keep getting the love they deserve .

      @@robrobr91 I am actually going to agree with you for the time being.. I use to hate the warriors, still do, but I appreciate there greatness now that Lebron isn't a threat.
      Once Lebron has a good game I'm going to talk smack about the warriors again. But I recognize they're greatness.

      If that was the case marc jackson would still have a job. Kerr implemented an actual system pulling from Phil jackson and Pops philosophies.

    Curry can win mvp but he needs to have the best individual season. His teams wins will have less value than all the other MVP candidates.

    Stephen Curry & the Warriors changed the entire league. He's been 'the best player' in the NBA for years now, he's broken a long list of records. He's finessed your favorite players time & time again, even while battling serious injuries
