A big reason he was elected is because he was out of the country and no one really knew how he stood on slavery or the expansion of slavery. No one could be an effective President from 1857-61. Buchanan finally made it to the Presidency at the wrong time.

Using the levers of power to attempt to overturn an election as Trump and his crime associates tried, and using the levers of power to eliminate a womans bodily autonomy with the threat of imprisonment is fascism. Trump supporting trash are fascists.
Nationalist "christianity" is intended to establish a theocratic fascist nation, or, "God's kingdom on Earth." Of course, a nationalist "god" is merely a regional one intended to validate what is nothing more than a religion of self-worship. In a vast majority of cases, a nationalist was simply shot out of a vagina in a nation that they didn't build, yet take personal pride and credit for the nation's accomplishments. Nationalism is basically stolen valor. Nationalists also take credit for Christianity while hating the Jewish culture that created it.

The topic of Hunter Biden is a straw man all by itself. Trump is a billionaire. If he had any dirt on Joe Biden he would have used it before the election.

When I was in 4th and 5th grade, one of our assignments was to clip an article out of the Herald Examiner and report on the topic. Sometimes we had to report on local news, sometimes national, but we had to clip the article, place it on the paper, and handwrite our report. It was fun and educational to hear which stories other students chose.

How unfortunate I just watched this twice to see if maybe I missed something. I like to see all sides and opinions, and I think at times Bill M and his writers do an ok job however this one was fiction-based opinions lacking any sort of substance. Rob is about as brilliant as wearing two left shoes and living in a small bubble as Amy.
Opinions aren't facts (if they were, they would be called "facts"); so I don't know what you mean by "fiction-based opinion": but from what I can tell, pretty much everything Reiner and Klobuchar are saying here is rooted in recent (and well-documented) political history. The problem is that hedge funds are buying up local papers and hollowing out newsrooms, so there needs to be changes to tax laws to encourage family ownership.
@Seekup4ever The government is already picking winners by subsidizing hedge funds to buy up media properties. Why? Because hedgies stuff the pockets of your favorite politicians who then craft favorable laws for their industry. Once upon a time, the tax laws were such that local press were owned by families or individuals who understood that journalism was a public trust. Even corporations, like CBS, NBC and ABC, regarded journalism a public service. No more. The neoliberal era-genuflecting before private power-has seen the destruction of local and regional media and correspondingly the decline of democracy.
@Seekup4ever Hedge funds and private equity firms exploit tax loopholes to avoid paying taxes. They’re called pass-through entities, allowing them to pass their entire tax obligation on to investors or limited partners. These vultures buy up major newspapers, hollow out their newsrooms and then sell at a substantial profit. Newspapers have always been for-profit; it’s never been a nonprofit medium unless you go back a hundred years before advertisers infiltrated the industry. The FCC did use to keep media apart, like you said. You couldn’t own a radio station if you owned a major newspaper in the same market. That all went away during the Reagan era when the FCC was defanged and deregulation became gospel.
@Seekup4ever It’s not a question of abandoning capitalism. This is about capitalism run amok in the neoliberal era. I grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70s. From the ‘40s to ‘70s, journalism was respected because the best in the profession, like Edward R Murrow, were reliable voices during WWII when America was fighting fascism overseas, not coddling it at home like today. Murrow and his team, including Eric Sevareid, inspired a generation of journalism’s greats, like Woodward and Bernstein. It was a golden era. CEOs back then made 30 times the salary of the average worker. Today it’s 300 times. Then a radical vision took root in the ‘80s when profit was the only thing that mattered and we’re seeing the effects of it today. Thomas Jefferson wrote from Paris that if he had to choose between “a government without newspapers or newspapers without government” he’d choose the latter. Few modern-day capitalists have a vision for the public good.
Saw a documentary on the hedge fund aquisition, then immediately then ews room gutted, paper dissolves within months. I do see the local TV news and affiliates changing ownership, of course the quality of the news changes, beat/ground coverage, etc. great comment. So many with the Mahr feed!

Agreed. Bill's wrong on this point. Archie was a bigot on many levels, but if you're familiar with the series, you'd know that Archie had a pretty big heart. It’s just that it took a huge slap in the face for him to realize how messed up his beliefs were. Also, not sure if it was ever talked about in the show, but the audience was supposed to understand that Mr. Bunker "inherited" his mindset from his father (and probably his father before, etc).
A majority of episodes ended with Archie having a change of heart, conceding, apologizing, “getting it”… After Meathead told him what the facts were and showed him the newspaper, he would’ve changed his mind and realized he wasn’t a billionaire philanthropist but instead a dangerous, nefarious scoundrel. I think Rob’s father would agree with his first opinion that Archie would’ve dumped Trump.

Nationalism is not fascism. Using law enforcement and suppressing the press to one's political advantage is.
Straight from the Gestapo playbook!! I wish they would've addressed that on the show.(FBI/ Facebook thing).
Yes, Eventually they always do.

@@jacqdanieles Sure. If he's not, we will find another awesome progressive to challenge corporate corrupt types like Clinton.
Archie Bunker was right to call Reiner a “MEATHEAD”…..
Amy fails to understand that Liz Cheney has voted w/ Trump 95% of the time, even tho she doesn't like him personally.
exactly! Its infantile to glorify an elite figure with horrible ideas and goals just because you share a common enemy.
Liz Cheney also called Democrats “baby killers”
Source?
So Liz liked Trumps policies just not Trump

my boss is an Archie Bunker type republican here in Arkansas. he refuses to vote for Trump because he is a "fuckin criminal".
So he literally voted for a f-// criminal? That’s the problem

There's hope, an astonishingly narrow avenue of hope, but hope nonetheless within the Republican Party. IF they jettison tRump and move as fast as it can, as far as it can AWAY from White Supremacy, White Nationalism and White Christian Nationalism, it can again be the party of simply smaller government, fiscal responsibility, and private sector growth again!
Very good powerful show loved John Waters
Yes John Waters dogs get abortions. My vet offered one for Friski. At that point, I grabbed her, and headed for the door. Abort her puppies? This was strange for at the time I was Admitting patients and witnessing consent forms for abortions. It was the first inkling of questioning the morality of killing humans before birth.

Stick to aborting puppies, got it. 😁👍
Took a major nosedive into a 3000 mile deep pit of boiling feces after that. Klobuchar. Hell on a jet pack. Gdfing unbearable.
It's amazing who gets canceled and who doesn't lol We got people who get their lives and careers ruined for little jokes and yet a guy who had an animal raped and tortured to death on film is celebrated because....he's gay or something? Lol
Didn’t Maher say MSNBC always reports the truth when he had Geraldo on his show a few years back?
Legacy media and monopolies are the problem. Not journalism
Lack of term limits and political dynasties are the REAL problem...
And legacy media is blatantly and absurdly biased towards the Democratic party and against Trump. Get real.
@@nebn3355 why can't both be true.
American journalism is in deep trouble. Reliance on 'anonymous sources' , political partisanship, and sheer laziness and greed have created a pro-censorship, disinformation friendly environment in western media.
We shouldn't have more women in power for the sake of quotas. We should have more women in places of power if they are both more willing, qualified, and are perceived to do the position more justice to do the job than their opponent. I'm so tired of hearing " We need more this or that in office" we need more competence in government positions regardless of sex or race.
Yes. recently in a class I we had to give presentations on the United Nations 17 global goals or whatever the hell they are. half of them are built on lies. I had to present on "gender equality"
In my presentation I pointed out that having the end result of 50% men/women ratio in everything is NOT gender equality. the teacher and students all just looked dumbfounded and clearly thought I didn't know anything or research anything.
Agreed, and also it is important to remember that just because the population is 50% male 50% female it doesn't mean that the political landscape should represent that. Men tend to be more interested in politics, so therefore there will always be more men. I have a sneaking suspicion that Klobuchar wants it to be 50/50.
@@Eldred15 she just wants more women to throw staplers at. 😂
@@Eldred15 But not every male politician might not care for their female constituents' best interests. You've seen the anti-abortion laws enacted in some states after Roe v. Wade was overturned, and the outcry from women has proven you wrong about them not being interested in politics. I do agree that identity politics does hurt in the long term, but, unfortunately, a good amount of us are cosmetically shallow and want to see themselves in the political arena to make changes.
I would really like to see Rob Reiner's documentary.
I have a great title for it. "Meathead"
He should've brought up Pelosi and her insider trading.
We need Noam Chomsky to talk to Bill Maher 😉🥰
Bill maher is a chicken when it comes to actual issues!
incredible. think bill scared.
Bill lose the the f'n woo woo guy for God's sake. So annoying!
By the “highly qualified” argument, Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi should be the front runners for President. 😐
Seriously. It would've been awful with Clinton, but not as obvious. At least now we might see real change.
Dealing with world leaders is a completely different game than trading favors with the locals for corn shares and pieces of government contracts. No Senator has the Big Red Button sitting at their side.
I can’t wait to have another super toxic election cycle where everyone passionately hates both candidates and we all have to suck it up to vote for whoever we think is least bad
@@MrKeychange So the alternative was to elect a political illiterate clown who had NO political experience? That's asylum logic, sweetie.
Amy dodged the vaccine question so poorly during the main show, why are democrats so afraid of touching that topic?
Go, Amy!!!!
I used to say that the world would be a better place if there were more women in positions of power. And then Sarah Palin, Marjorie Taylor Green, and Baubert (sp?) happened and shattered my theory.
Just because they have two X chromosomes doesn't necessarily mean they'll work hard and do a lot of thinking.
But you like any? That’s just nuts

@@debgutierrez3237 of course, there are many great women in positions of power. What I learned is that women can be as nuts and incompetent as men. My expectations of women had always been higher, I guess, like women would not be corrupt, for example.
