You might consider mounting the feeder on a PVC and zip tie frame to allow use of the feeder inside the cage. It might allow you to position the feeder to drop the meal worms into the feeding tray more accurately.

I think you are right that there is a better way! Getting the feeder closer to tray or a drop chute … more experiments 😁
