The fact that people actually care about racing clean and safety rating playing such a large role makes it worth it if you’re after that true racing experience where most people doesn’t treat it like a game where you can just hit respawn or leave and try again. Makes it penalizing but extremely rewarding

    • @TheDirtyLime

I’m sure as you climb the ranks that’s true, from what I’ve seen in rookies, you can get a mix of people who are still relatively new and make mistakes (myself included) and drivers who clearly know the track/car combo well.

Iracing straight up teaches you fundamentals, it is designed to make you a better race car driver with RACECRAFT , It still has its drivers that really some just don't care, and spoil it for everyone sometimes, it's,just something we have to deal with , but those drivers , those drivers can make you better because seeing them be stupid gives you incentive to not follow the path of stupidity and be better

It would be good for us simracers if iRenting would get some competition.
Other massive online games costs roughly the same each month, but in Iracing you also have to pay for the tracks and cars. And single car/track costs almost the same as other racing games full DLCs.
There is no guarantee that the cars/tracks will be relevant further down the line. Would be better with just a subscription and no extra costs.
Lets hope that the new Assetto Corsa have some good multiplayer or Automobilistsa 2 upcoming integration with LowFuelMotorsport will be good

This is a fantastically detailed video and you covered every point that could be made. It definitely is costly..but for the ability to race 24/7 and at least have one full split(with some exceptions) even at the most awkward of times, it is worth it to me. I held out for a year or so fiddling with AC,RF2,AMS2, and a LOT of time in ACC. I caved about 9 months ago and haven't touched another sim since. Today I went from a IMSA muticlass race, to a super forula race, to a mx5, all with little downtime, and good racing all arond. There's a LOT to explore, and definitely can be costly. I've probably spend somewhere in the 5-600 range at this point, but I have almost every road course(especially for the disciplines I drive), and all of the cars I enjoy competing in.

As a member for 13 years for me it is great value. You reach a point where you have many tracks/cars and you effectively race with very little additional outlay. It is difficult to get going but the value is there. In addition if you complete 8 races in a season you get $7 so that adds to $28 per year. Can be $10 pers season if you race 2 series. Timing this with special deals/multi year it s great value. I cannot count the hours I have in Iracing so the cost per hour is extremely low.

At the end of the day, Iracing is one of the most expensive racing service and buying extra content will burn a hole in your pocket.
But the development is constant, the multiplayer base is massive (this is coming from an Australian, who usually get screwed by participants) the special events and having a paid service usually means we don't have people ramming us and ruining our races constantly.

It's great as a tool. You can make yourself a better driver on track and around the city. You learn a lot. You also get to drive with so many real drivers and get to interact with them. As just a "game" it's still great to be able to have that "real feel" of how a car would act. I know it's not perfect but yea it's nice. One thing I wish they would do is update graphics.

I drove 3 seasons in the Formula Vee rookie series and the monthly fee was absolutely worth it. iRacing even keeps adding more free content along with the paid content so the value for a membership keeps getting better and better. I enjoy nearly all the driving simulations available; while the feeling of driving or the graphics may be subjective, objectively nothing beats iRacing's matchmaking system.

Get yourself a GT3 Car, GT4 Car & a Formula Car such as F4. Aswell as a few popular circuits like Nordschleife/Nurburgring, Redbullring, Hungaroring, Spa and you will have a couple really good races to choose from each and every week of the year. All of that equates to around $100, but it will keep you enteratined for an entire year, thousands of hours.

I don't know how many people remember what sim racing was like in 2008 but when iracing came around they changed the whole game. The PC racing sim genre was pretty dead for a couple years at that point but there was still a ton of user created mod support for what we had. It's was nice but still a lot of work to set everything up manually so it created a bit of a barrier. IRacing promised us excellent laser scanned tracks and cutting edge physics model with an expanding library of tracks and cars and now almost 20 years later I would say they have delivered that on all levels. IRacing isn't a subscription, you're paying membership dues on an international racing club. We get to play in an open and fair field with some of the best sim racers in the world and to me that's priceless. If you think it's too expensive then you're probably right, luckily now we have many other options with fantastic and easy to use mod support.

I think one plus point is that most D-class series use free content at least partially, so sticking to them means you can save a lot of money. Also, you get an update every 3 months, often a significant one. And every few up[dates you get a free car or track, which is also nice. Compared to something like ACC, which might get an update once a year if at all, this is a huge improvement (which you pay for, of course).

My issue is as a rookie joining into iRacing the cost of stuff on top of the subscription is a massive barrier. Furthermore we know vehicles are thrown into legacy at some point. So my money won't even keep me racing in an official series forever.
I wish they simply offered a more expensive membership that is all access. They've over complicated it imo. We know a person can only race X hours... So why limit people to a single series or two in costs.

iRacing has a huge momentum right now. You mention a few other titles, but let's be honest. LMU and rF2 are in big trouble, Rennsport was a huge flop, AMS and other titles are too unpopular to actually compete in the same segment. ACC is valid though, but seems like everyone is just anticipating Kunos to release AC Evo.
iRacing has continuity, which seems to be a major driving factor. They have a solid product that gets massive updates through the year, and they keep on gathering licenses and expertise. Therefore, committing to iRacing is currently appealing, and you can see that in their numbers. The Covid-run of simracing is settling, meaning that creating a new niche will be ever harder.

At some point cars just retire and new ones come along. You can still race the old cars in lobbies and what not, there are just no official races with them any more. They kept the M4 for example for the production car challenge, which is grate and if you purchased the old one within 6 months or so, you got a full refund, even though you still can use it. There are already over 140 Series on iRacing. They can't keep every car alive.

Nice video. In my opinion, I’ve been doing sim racing for years and tried pretty much every sim and simcade in the last two years. I don’t think Iracing is worth it. I personally don’t care about the cost, and as others have said, they do a great job with the online ranked series. Lots of options and people to race against at every time of the day. That being said, every time I try to get back to Iracing, I end up uninstalling it before my membership is up. I always get excited when I see so many people signing up for races, but after I start driving, my excitement goes away very fast. The Iracing tire model is not good at all and makes the driving experience underwhelming and frustrating. I’m not going to get into the realistic or not realistic topic because it doesn’t really matter, it’s simply just not an enjoyable driving experience. If they were to fix this aspect, this would probably be the sim I’d play 90% of the time

I don't think the high cost is such a big problem tbh. If something is really good, i don't mind spending more money over competitors. The problem is that iracing as a total experience, is only ok. It's not really better than what competitors offer. That's the reason it's kind of hard to justify the really high price.

In my experience Rookies is just as the name suggest, people send it every corner and spins a lot, 0 racecraft but just in a couple of days got out of Rookie and trying to upgrade my License and iRating in other classes like F4 or GT4 it's really really fun to play. Some races are an absolute blast with clean races and competitiveness and my iRating is just 1300, I think in order to have a good multiplayer race you need to be patient and drive defensively specially if you qualify in a lower position. You will slowly learn how to drive the car/track combo and improve your driving skills and as you improve the drivers you face online will improve as well.
