    Here are some of the ways you can make full use of the pliability of clay. If you're going to go through the trouble of animating the stuff, you might was well have some fun with the effects you an create with it. This includes squash and stretch, replacement animation, and transformations.
    Puppy Pals clip: IMToys at ua-cam.com/channels/N0w.html...
    Please see my other tutorials on how to make an armature for a puppet, as well as other stop motion subjects.
    Software: Dragonframe. iStopmotion (Mac and mobile) is a good frame-capturing app for the price. I understand iKITmovie is a good free option for Windows. Stop Motion Studio is a good mobile app. If you have a favorite stop motion app, please tell us about it in the comments.
    Effects compositing in After Effects and editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. I have not had the opportunity to try out free or inexpensive alternatives for Windows.
    Camera: I'm using a DSLR. But if you're not there yet, a good option is a camcorder that can run a live video signal to your computer. For best results, set the camcorder to fully manual to prevent focus and white balance flicker.
    Shopping for Puppet-Making:
    Clay (Van Aken, Sculpy III), armature wire: Arts/craft store like Hobby Lobby or amazon.com.
    Armature kit: stopmotionstore.com
    16-gauge aluminum armature wire (from an art store or Amazon, not the hardware store)
    For the head, aluminum foil or wood ball (craft store)
    Just about everything here can be found on Amazon if you don't have all these kinds of stores in your area. You can also get animation supplies from stopmotionstore.com.

    Great advice and there are so many transformations you can do. Since I'm not using clay it's taken some work, but I figured out how to do some of these things. I used to draw on effects, but really having them there is so much better.

    How are you able to work with Van Aken Plastalina Clay so easily? I tried some myself, but it started out a bit too firm to my liking. Applying a heat source to it or working it a lot with my hands does help, but I don't see it as too practical.

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  6 місяців тому

      I suppose it's not all that easy, and certainly isn't practical for all situations. It's the right choice for doing transformations and squash and stretch effects, but using other methods of stop motion like foam and cloth puppets with hard heads is easier to work with in front of the camera. The clay becomes softer and easier to work under the lights and after being kneaded.

    • @e-mananimates2274
      @e-mananimates2274 6 місяців тому

      @@MichaelParks I'm actually going to experiment with other varieties of plasticine and similar substances to see which one is easier. I heard Sculpy is good as long as you don't bake it.

    what happens with the clay that gets mixed up and unusable?

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  3 роки тому +1

      I often find another use for it. I found that gently mixed-up colors were good for splatter effects. Or I use it to build up a shape that I then cover in the desired color of clay.

    Amazing tutorial. Thank you! By the way, what happened to those stop motion channels which has Batman, Hulk, Elsa etc? They gone because of copyright infringement?

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  6 років тому

      Many of those sites were shut down by UA-cam because they posted videos aimed at children, using characters children like, but were inappropriate for younger audiences. That is evidently a violation of UA-cam's terms of use. But since some of those channels still remain, I'm guessing copyright infringement isn't the big issue. I guess they still fall under "fair use", perhaps as fan-films.

    • @dunyaldostum4891
      @dunyaldostum4891 6 років тому
