Here are some of the ways you can make full use of the pliability of clay. If you're going to go through the trouble of animating the stuff, you might was well have some fun with the effects you an create with it. This includes squash and stretch, replacement animation, and transformations.

Please see my other tutorials on how to make an armature for a puppet, as well as other stop motion subjects.
Software: Dragonframe. iStopmotion (Mac and mobile) is a good frame-capturing app for the price. I understand iKITmovie is a good free option for Windows. Stop Motion Studio is a good mobile app. If you have a favorite stop motion app, please tell us about it in the comments.
Effects compositing in After Effects and editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. I have not had the opportunity to try out free or inexpensive alternatives for Windows.
Camera: I'm using a DSLR. But if you're not there yet, a good option is a camcorder that can run a live video signal to your computer. For best results, set the camcorder to fully manual to prevent focus and white balance flicker.
Shopping for Puppet-Making:
Clay (Van Aken, Sculpy III), armature wire: Arts/craft store like Hobby Lobby or amazon.com.
Armature kit: stopmotionstore.com
16-gauge aluminum armature wire (from an art store or Amazon, not the hardware store)
For the head, aluminum foil or wood ball (craft store)
Just about everything here can be found on Amazon if you don't have all these kinds of stores in your area. You can also get animation supplies from stopmotionstore.com. - Фільми й анімація

I don’t even do claymation, I do lego stopmotion (basically same thing with different stuff) and this was REALLY HELPFUL! Thank you!!
Great advice and there are so many transformations you can do. Since I'm not using clay it's taken some work, but I figured out how to do some of these things. I used to draw on effects, but really having them there is so much better.
It’s a great tutorial ! Easy to understand, interesting, showing a lot of different techniques... Thank you for this video !
dont know if i'll ever be able to create such masterpieces, but your tutorials are still nevertheless so much fun to watch!!
Ironically, this helped me with in between and smear frames on traditional animation, more so than stop motion....but, thanks!
This is really useful! Amazing tutorial, I love transformations in animations
Great work with the claymation, stop-frame animation and CGI animation too that you've created! Good tips!
I just started making stop motion videos with clay, and booooy, it's difficult. Thanks for the tutorial, I'll keep looking for creative ways to make transformations.
thats so awesome and smooth
That’s cool

3:57 Nice!
Hi! Great videos you have in your channel. What kind of clay are you using exactly? I haven't been able to find Van Aken clay where I live, not even online. I'll probably test Sculpey later, but I think it will break too much on a puppet.
Cannot begin to imagine how many hours this took
*...- and this my friends is called talent.*
Also use plasticine it dosent dry out so you can take as long as u can and its just like clay
Which do you chose
Lee hardcastle gulldies or Micheal
Super informative and relaxing.
cool
Unlimited, extreme, ultra, epic, awesome, super, perfect, good, and more
Cod you do tutorials for stikbot?!
Great tutorial video. Liked and subscribed. Do have a tutorial on how to use your Canon DLSR and capture with Dragonframe?
I haven't made one, but I think if you google it you'll find info, perhaps even on Dragonframe help.

How do i avoid those little camera movements that i do not want..
That dog is quite terrifying
Claymation.... Art for insane people.
Yeah, can't argue with that.
How are you able to work with Van Aken Plastalina Clay so easily? I tried some myself, but it started out a bit too firm to my liking. Applying a heat source to it or working it a lot with my hands does help, but I don't see it as too practical.
I suppose it's not all that easy, and certainly isn't practical for all situations. It's the right choice for doing transformations and squash and stretch effects, but using other methods of stop motion like foam and cloth puppets with hard heads is easier to work with in front of the camera. The clay becomes softer and easier to work under the lights and after being kneaded.
@@MichaelParks I'm actually going to experiment with other varieties of plasticine and similar substances to see which one is easier. I heard Sculpy is good as long as you don't bake it.
@@e-mananimates2274 I tried animating either Sculpy or Fimo and found it cracked way too much.
What is name of this app
2:06 that's way more complicated than it needed to be dide, you did it the hard way

what happens with the clay that gets mixed up and unusable?
I often find another use for it. I found that gently mixed-up colors were good for splatter effects. Or I use it to build up a shape that I then cover in the desired color of clay.
What editor do you use?
Premiere
May I ask what kind of clay do u use?
Van Aken Modeling clay
В чём автор создаёт анимацию из отдельных кадров?
Stage 1-2 looks like dart from season 2
Amazing tutorial. Thank you! By the way, what happened to those stop motion channels which has Batman, Hulk, Elsa etc? They gone because of copyright infringement?
Many of those sites were shut down by UA-cam because they posted videos aimed at children, using characters children like, but were inappropriate for younger audiences. That is evidently a violation of UA-cam's terms of use. But since some of those channels still remain, I'm guessing copyright infringement isn't the big issue. I guess they still fall under "fair use", perhaps as fan-films.
Thank you for your answer. Channels with millions of subscribers has gone. We should be really careful while producing videos for kids. For future of kids themself and for our channels :)
do u use blender ?
I use Maya. I get an educator's license, which a student can get as well. Blender looks good, but studios use Maya so it's good to learn it.
What cameras do you use for stopmotions??
I'm using a Canon Rebel DSLR. Before I got that, I used camcorders that had a live video feed that could be patched into a computer.
Ok and what app is on the computer too?
That's Dragonframe
Ok thx btw you am making a movie now 😂😝
YOu don't have problems with flikering because of the shutter spped different in each frame? (Long ago since I did a stopMotion movie and have had those problems) And next video please without interlaces stripes :-)
