    I’ve been doing short stop motion videos with toys but always wanted to create my own puppets to express more feelings. While looking for techniques I got really frustrated by the needed steps for making movable eyes and hands and other features. With your videos I got hope again. Your videos are inspiring. Thank you! Greetings from Turkey 👏🏻

    I love the art behind creating claymation and animation, but I possess nowhere near the patience that is required to attempt it. I’d get one small segment done...and then abandon it. You have to be really dedicated to it. The amount of time required gives me anxiety to think about 😂

    ANY TIPS on how to make a stop motion to go with the music?

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  5 років тому +1

      It's a lot like animating dialogue--you read the audio track, noting what frame the beats hit and when musical accents occur that you want to time the animation to. Thank you, that's a good idea for a tutorial.

    I really don't like the "sticker mouth" tecnique, I prefer the movable mouth. I try to make the head and the jaw seperate and then have some soft clay for the lips and the movments of the face. Is this a good method ?

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  3 роки тому

      I prefer that sort of method as well, as I'd just like to have the jaw move. It takes more time, but I like to have the whole face made of clay to get a full range of expressions and mouth shapes. Stickers are just a good way of getting animation done in less time.

  • @CloudBoyVids
    @CloudBoyVids 3 роки тому

    Fantastic Video! This is a big help but I do have one question....How do you attach the mouth pieces without them falling off the face or accidentally smear the colour of the plasticine mouths onto the face as you take them on and off? Would really appreciate it if you could answer this question :D

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  3 роки тому +1

      I find the mouths stick to a plasticine face just fine. But I use oven-baked clay for the mouths so there is no color smearing. I think plasticine mouths on a plasticine face would indeed get very messy. You can also do baked mouths on a baked head for even less cleanup. Tacky wax is needed to hold the mouth on, but that is easily cleaned off with a moist wipe.

    Hello Mike, for the sculpted way with clay animation, are characters baked to harden them up a little when using in projects?

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  2 роки тому

      I don't think there is a clay that just hardens up a little when baked. Either soft plasticine clay is used so it can be fully animated, or parts of the character, like the torso and/or the head, are baked hard so they stay firm when animated.

    What would be the cheapest way to buy/ make a clay character and what way is easier replacement animation or just reshape the mouth. And what is the armature wire called I saw it in how to animate toys on your channel. Thanks

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  5 років тому

      Making a wire armature is the cheapest (I have a tutorial on that). Replacement mouths are faster when animating, but you're limited to the set of shapes you make.

    • @MichaelParks

      Action figures have really small mouths, making it difficult unless you go for the oversized mouths like Robot Chicken. Or really small sticker mouths.

    I have so much trouble having my characters walk. I post claymations on my UA-cam but I’m new at it so I have so many issues. I can never balance them to stand. Can you tell me how you do it?

    • @MichaelParks
      @MichaelParks  5 років тому

      Puppets either have tie-downs, which is a bolt that tightens the foot to the floor (see my tutorial on armature-making and walks), or I have a wire attached to the body that extends a few inches and drops to the floor, basically becoming a third leg that helps hold up the body while staying hidden from the camera by the body (see my tutorials on toy animation).

      I haven't tried that yet, and am skeptical about at least my own ability to get the mouth to follow the head when it turns away from the camera. But that's how it's done for Robot Chicken, so it must work.
