This opening is one that gives me chills every time I watch it. There was just something about many ps2 era games with epic opening sequences like this that made them stand out. From what I recall they didn’t want to use this opening song ever again to avoid legal trouble. It apparently got called out for being too similar to a Russian composer’s song. At that point they didn’t want a lawsuit, so they just dropped it from the series onward from what I know.

I remember getting on the internet soon after playing this and seeing so much hate for Raiden, felt like I was the only person who didn't mind seeing things from his perspective
Full disclosure I never watched any of the trailers or played the demo, just saw a single magazine article a few months before release, so part of the reason is that I didn't get hit with the intentional Snake hyping

Best MGS game. It’s close between this and 3, but the gameplay here is just a bit better imo without the survival viewer and the tanker chapter is just the most fun part of any Metal Gear Solid game to actually play. Story’s obviously amazing too, and it’s one that seems to just get better with age.

My only issue with the game is that you play as raiden most of the game and not as snake. And yes the tanker part was the most fun part where you actually play as snake.

For it's time it was absolutely insane. Being able to shoot someone in the arm and they can't use that arm to shoot. Being able to shoot their radio to break it and then shoot their leg so they can't run. Blood splatters on the wall. So much breakable/interactive scenery. It was very ahead of its time as was the first one.
