I love to see the Bison running like little kids. Enormous animals you have to get serious with, but also they are very cute. Not like pets of course. Its every year more familiar to see these animals in contact with you and your family. You all growing more together and there is so much understanding. By people and animals. I love that ❤ thanks for sharing again.
It was good seeing Eleanor bless her heart ❤️ my favorite cow !! Now, just gotta get Dunbar in a video sometime. I always look forward to CTB videos when I see a notification I'm like yayyy y'all teach us and have good family content 😌 also. So keep on Bison Ranchin and I'll be right here waiting to watch. God's blessings to you all. ❤️🦬🤎
I haven't used Prarie hay. But i like 2nd cutting alfalfa for all my livestock. There's a lot of nutritional value in it. Grass loses a lot of it once its cut & the longer it sits & it'smore roughage filler. But! A mix of grass & alfalfa can be a good supplemental feed, especially in a bad winter. I have friend that feeds mostly grass hay to her horse's.
I would say it was a hit. They were enjoying it 👍🏻 116 was like don't touch the alfalfa hay. Glad Elenore enjoyed it. Nice it was more protein than the gentleman said and most of all they really liked it. Keep on Bison ranch en 😊❤
Very interesting! In SC, we feed horses a lot of the Coastal Bermudagrass hybrid. It's supposed to be high in protein also, second to alfalfa - depending on how well the hay farmer nurtures his fields. It was cool how much they liked it! Looks like a super mix of grasses and alfalfa.
24% protein off a mix is crazy. Congratulations. 👍 Ok, Bullet with the blue eyes kills me! I love him. What a character. ❤❤❤ Sweet Eleanor. Thank you for doing so well by her. ❤ She would like you to know she likes sticks and thistles, and when all those pushy cows are sleeping, she gets the best parts of the new mix. She's not the Queen for nothin'. 👸
Love seeing the bison running glad you found a new way to supplement to keep them healthier this winter l feel so bad for Eleanor l know it's natural order of things but the rest of them are too mean maybe Bullet can take care of them for her 😂 he sure is a scrappy little guy can't wait to the new flavor for the snack sticks
I fed my horses a blend of 20/80 mix of alfalfa and grass hay from later fall into early spring to get them through the harsh Minnesota winters back home. Then it was grass hay and pasture in the warmer months.
We had cattle and fed alfalfa clover mix along with native grass. Feed 2:1 native bales to the higher protein to keep your cost down and to not spoil them from eating native grasses.
Dusty the .64 % absorption for lactation and maintenance are excellent results. Hope it helps the pregnant moms have less problems with red dog season.
After feeding it all winter, the bison may carry the seeds around, and you may get an alfalfa plant here and there. Especially if you have them spend time in the protein deficient grass.
Hi Dusty, Marissa and Brooke. Love watching your videos. Always Always learning something new. Great content on taking care of the bison. God bless and love yall ❤❤
Love your videos. Alfalfa and clover are used by farmers as winter silage here in CT. Very few 🦬 but plenty of cows. That may give red dogs a healthier start. Are the horses ridable? Well the new hay seems to be a hit. So funny to see the bison come a running. No one has to be called twice. Love the video as always.
Love watching your show love that little puppy sooo cute!! You guys doing great work !!I don’t think I will be getting out with them 😂regards from Tasmania Australia great work !!
I feed my horses a hay blend always ~~ Usually Alfalfa, Timothy & Oat ~~ when they graze they don’t just pick out one kind of grass/hay. I haven’t had a problem with gut issues with any of my horses. Especially my adopted Mustangs.
My great, great , great grandfather immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1850 and he brought along alfalfa seeds. The alfalfa seeds that were able to withstand the Minnesota winters, he kept those seeds and regrew them so the local farmers could see the benefit of the alfalfa seed. It is also known as the Grimm alfalfa. As I see your buffalo eat this alfalfa it just put a smile on my face to think about my ancestors and what they brought to the United States. 😊
Oh my goodness the pups are so cute. Hello you all.❤❤. Looks like he would be taking his frustration out on the bales😂😅😂😅. Does Cora get along with her buddy?
Can I make a suggestion for the horses? Please lower their feed dishes. It is better for their necks and easier for them to eat if they can lower their heads more. Ideally their dishes should be on the ground, but I understand that it is not ideal for you Just a suggestion to give them a more natural feeding position.
yep mine are always at chest height or slightly lower. We always feed hay on the ground as long as it is not super sandy soil otherwise we use larger tobagins (like pull behind atv or snowmobiles) to feed in when we can find them, otherwise the lick tubs once empty work great for putting hay in also (course that is using square bales).
I love and appreciate how you devote and put so much time and effort into the science of bison ranching and the health of your animals, not just having a ranch with bison, if you know what I mean. Not only that, but the history of the American Bison, and keeping the breed alive for generations to come, like Brooks’ children and so on. From one former teacher to another, thank you. Love from Florida 💕🙏☀️🐶😊
They should LOVE the alfalfa mix hay-our horses sure do, and it's great to assist them in the winter, and with equines, it's wonderful to help with milk production in the broodmares, etc.
Alfalfa is the dark, shaggy stuff. The stalks are thick, but the tops are the shaggy bit you were holding. It looks like the outer portion of the bale is all alfalfa. Long time for me, but I can still smell it when I see the bale. 😊 My dad used to harvest a bunch of it.
All our animals ate alfalfa and grasses year round. We grew it in our pastures and some years in the hay pastures we could get two cuts for winter field. Common in Canada. 🇨🇦
Typically protein is highest with first cutting, and sometimes last cutting. Also check for leafiness as that is where the protein is located. If the hay is raked more than once and while it is too dry the leaves fall off.
Hello my dears, I love seeing your determination in preparing, feeding and raising your animals, always thinking about what's best for them. Your work as a couple is admirable. I've never had the opportunity to be close to these beautiful and majestic animals. I'm from Portugal, in a small country by the sea in Europe. Even though you're small, you have bigger states. I admit it and I love your daughter, who is so young and already knows so much about these beautiful animals. I'm 61 years old. I would love to get to know your country, especially your work, but financially it's completely impossible, especially because I'm very sick and have many mobility limitations. It's a dream of mine for many years. ❤❤❤ Kisses and hugs from Portugal 🫶🇵🇹🙏🙏🙌🙌🦬🦬🦬❤
Alfalfa is like candy for horses! I was feeding a grass alfalfa mix until the price got really high the last couple of years here in California. The price of grass/alfalfa bales came down later this year, but now my horses are so spoiled by eating alfalfa that they protest and won't eat the grass/alfalfa unless they are starving.
Bulliut and Jackie love each other! Of course Bulliut being a Dachshund thinks he's a Great Dane 😅🥰 Marisa lol🌸 Hey Cora, and Morgan! So Pretty!😊🥰 Dang chickens 😅 Reevaluate 😂 Marisa 😂🌸 Pretty day! Was this before or after all the beneficial rain? 🙏🌧🌞 That Big Bison lady needs a name! She's Huge!🦬💜 Looks like they like the hay.👍 Big Joe you knucklehead lol😄🦬💜 Keep Bison Ranchin Dusty, and Marisa!🙏🦬🌧🌞💜
Just watched a Ken Burns video and read that the Kiowa believe that the Bison came from Mt Scott in the Wichita mountains , thats kind of apt isn;t it Dusty ? A beautiful creation story I think .
alfalfa or lucerne, is an excellent supplement feed. depending on the times it was cut and how long it dried, will give a varying protein and fibre benefit. for the greatest benefit, a green silage bale would be best, im in australia so my knowledge may not be the best for you. i just wish that i could import your jerky sticks as ive been lucky to try many different meats.
I’m not a farmer, but we had friends that raised cattle in Washington state. They had an alfalfa field and that’s where their hay came from. All alfalfa. I’m allergic to all hay!
Good on ya, Dusty. Always refining your methods so your beasts are well cared for. God bless you, young man. Extra belly scratches for those hay burners at the barn.
I use a round for my 2 horses, its meadow hay, our grass has to much sugar during spring, and in winter and summer not enough feed, so they are on hay all year here in New Zealand. Our Rye grass has to much protein for horses. Your Alpha hay is the same as our Lucerne hay, my boys get hard fed with Lucerne chaff as well. Alot of our horses suffer from laminitis etc from our grasses here.
RVF% Is Relative Feed Value. Your sample is 113% of the feed value of "mixed (grass/legume) hay." That's good stuff. It'll supplement your native species hay quite well. Again, it's great feed.
or one week put the alfafa hay mix and the other week the ordinary stuff or very cold weeks the alfafa hay mix - that is one way of doing this - being cold is a better use of extra protein
Aw, glad to see Eleanor getting some too! Sweet girl ❤🦬❤ Hey, how are the turkeys doing? Bullet playing with Jackie is adorable! Bullet reminds me of my Winston! Winston is a miniature dachshund long haired white and chocolate (a deep brown). They look similar ❤
Just to throw this out there, those percentages might depend on the season even for your ranch & wherever else you get other bales. Not a farmer, but love plants.
I posted on AFH for DeeJay to come visit you and ride around with Dusty, and feed Big Joe cubes. Then Dusty has to go play with Charlie n bottle feed Maggie. Hope to see you guys together. I watch bother of you and enjoy your family’s.
DUSTY, great video. Would be wonderful if you could get a large amount of grasses or hay bale for the bisons for coming winter. Hope you get some rain soon. ⛈⛈⛈⛈💞💞💞❤❤❤.
Is it hickory smoked! Because that's the only way to do it. Have you tried sweet grass as an experiment. You might have to use the alfalfa for winter time and use the pasture hay for summertime.
FYI, I do not know of a facility across North America that does not feed their giraffe alfalfa hay. Pellets from Mazuri supplement with as much browse as can be harvested (tree limbs with leaves).
I love how you take care of Elanor; this is so much more than just producing, you're a good man Dusty
You can tell how you treat your animals with love by the way they always run to you ….it’s not just food they know you will care for them
Big Joe looked like a Mastodon running towards you guys when rolling out that bale
You guys always get the best shots of the herd coming towards you and it's just so pretty
It looks like you have a winner. This cute buffalo are all like kids in a candy shop.

I really like how you have experienced ranchers chiming in with their knowledge! Thanks to you all for helping Dusty out.
I love how you know you animal's and what they do!!!
Dusty love and enjoy your videos. May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the bison and testing the hay

Want to fix your stuffer rod? Hoof Grip Pro, glue used to glue blocks on cattle hooves if one claw has an issue. 😊
Cow hooves
Hoof Grip Pro is great hoof glue. It has outstanding longevity and adhesive factors.
Look for The Hoof GP. Graeme Parker. Scottish hoof trimmer.
Dowel rods are like less than 2 bucks depending on the diameter at a Walmart, craft store, etc. Good looking out for Graeme, though 👍
@@suzannedube7075Nate is much better.

Agreed re 24%, that would be very hard to obtain, and to reach that number in dried hay is hard to believe (even though the report indicated it).
Thank you for showing us the horses.

They know good hay when they taste it! Be sure and give sweet Eleanor some. ❤
10:20 Sounds like it's time to gather the eggs.
what a performance; wonder how many eggs were laid
Bell Star has some awesome pointy horns. They look bigger than Bunbar's.
Good morning Dusty and Marissa and Brooks thank you for having me along God bless y'all love y'all i love how you take care of your 🦬 bison

Alfalfa is nice and green and has stems and the leaves can crumble. Good stuff.

Yes, take care of Eleanor. My sweet Eleanor

I love when they run like that too!!
I think the new flavor bison stick is going to be *spicy!* Anyone wanna bet?😉
❤ Samples of grass clippings, skin clippings, good grief !
There's different varieties of alfalfa too. In Ontario they usually mix the two in the planted pastures.
Just watched a Ken Burns video and read that the Kiowa believe that the Bison came from Mt Scott in the Wichita mountains , thats kind of apt isn;t it Dusty ? A beautiful creation story I think .
Long Horn Lester supplements his Long Horns during the winter, plus he seeds with rye grass in the winter too.
Big joe is halarious 😂love the way he wears the hay ❤

I don’t think the buffaloes are supposed to get that red protein in their hay🤨🤣
Texas winter rye is good, but late season it loses its nitrogen.
If it’s rye, those heads, most of the seeds have dropped or broken off.
I think they like it !! Great protein 24 awesome!! Love n Blessings
Just to throw this out there, those percentages might depend on the season even for your ranch & wherever else you get other bales. Not a farmer, but love plants.
Spicey bison sticks?? Stocking stuffers😁
Kinda like having the toilet paper unroll!!! (hasta' unroll from the bottom😂)
love those bison - >. America bless God!

Oh that is so NICE of you to take that new alfalfa over to Elanor ❤
I saw a video the other day where they used the hay bale lift to lift and place a molasses tub.
DUSTY, great video. Would be wonderful if you could get a large amount of grasses or hay bale for the bisons for coming winter.
Hope you get some rain soon. ⛈⛈⛈⛈💞💞💞❤❤❤.
Oh the dogs and Red dogs
I could sit and listen to them eat forever!
That is rye because it looks like feather around minute 6 to 7.
Dusty, tell the extension office, you want a DNA test along with the grass testing. 🤣😂
Hi Dusty and family 😊😊
❤ Good to see you. Interesting to see the choices 😊
We got dowels at auto repair store. robably at garden stores, home depot,
Very interesting on the hay sample. Wonder what the protein level would be on straight alfalfa? Thanks.
Check your craft stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby for your wooden dowel.
The one where hey sampling is more dangerous than bison ranching.
Very interesting. Thanks. Take care
Watching you from Delaware.
Walmart, hardware, and craft stores sell dowel rods! Take dowel rod with you for length and width.
Is it hickory smoked! Because that's the only way to do it.
