If you don't own a Grill Grate and want to buy one you can get them here! www.grillgrate.com?aff=46
I use bourbon. Serve enough to you & your guests and they don’t care how clean the grill is...
Looooool
Exactly!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m a year late but I’m dying at this
You dont even have to buy meat, just put the bourbon glass on the grill and serve up 😂...😐
Do regular wipe down after you cook. When grill still warm. Monthly I put mine in the oven and use the cleaning cycle. They come out clean as new :) same time I also do the drip trays for the stove the burners same time.
Wow I was wonder was there a safe way to do this. I have a brush but I will be doing this very soon. Thanks for the tip
Just bought a Weber Q grill with porcelain coated cast iron grates. Would foil be safe on it or would I be better off with scotch brite or a hard bristle plastic brush?
I heat the grill before I clean it. It seems easier to clean that way-
This is amazing, my dude. Thanks for the tip! I’m tossing my wire brushes now.
New subscriber here. I like to clean my grill right after I've finished taking the meat off the grill while it's still good and hot before the residue get a chance to cool and get all crusty. It's easier to clean and ensures I don't have to mess with cleaning it before I grill again. Love your channel.
Depends on the brush. Some allow for hot scraping and some grill grates shouldn’t be scratched while hot. I’ve heard folks soaking grates in vinegar, water and baking soda. Looking into the best methods myself. And the CitrusSafe commercial is on. I use it, it does ok.
Agree, that’s my method as well. Never had any wire fall out of my brush but if it happens would most likely fall through the grates.
I also have been doing the foil method for the last 10 years or so for the same reason and I can appreciate what you said about the onion, it’s rare to find people in this day and age that are conscious about wasting food.
Use only the cut off ends of a onion that way its not a waste
To me even using the cut ends of onions is a waste. I use veggie scraps to make homemade vegetable stock and onion ends are the main veggie that goes in my stock.
The onion is not used to clean the grill. It’s used so that the meat or whatever you’re cooking doesn’t stick to the grill when trying to flip.
Great tip! 💯
What do you think about the wooden scrapers like safe scrape?
How did u clean after it touched the ground and u took off the residue?
I totally agree, get rid of those grill brushes! I just had abdominal surgery yesterday to remove a wire bristle from one of those brushes.
Sorry to hear that
I did not see the grates getting cleaner using foil. What do you think about stainless steel scouring pads?
It's true! Was eating delicious bourbon chicken at Cajun Cafe many years ago and took a bite of something OUCH it was a piece of metal off those round metal pan scrubber brushes. 1) It hurt 2) Could've been bad 3) I'm super paranoid now lol I also hate how when you open the biscuits in the tube foil particles (sometimes large, albeit rarely) get all over the dough! I pick off as much as I can 😅
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with our community!
I like to throw mine in the oven on the self clean cycle. When it comes out I can rinse it with water and a washcloth and it's perfectly clean.
Прарарогеоще до арщпощрьлрглорло
Great idea!!
Same here :) I also discovered the trays under the burners on a electric stove forget about tossing out or replacing works for them too.. ( I also add or reason my cast iron pans same time)
Great thanks
Pressure washer. Done! 👍🏻
I use a piece of wood 1X 8 with the grill hot and gloves
I put my grate on the ground overnight in the grass so the dew can loosen up the crud. Then, I wash it with soap and water to clean it. Rinse, you’re done.
Great ! I tried that and a raccoon came and feasted on my grill. A coyote then came and killed the raccoon which aborted 10 babies !! Wasn’t a good cleaning hack for me😂😂😂
Wire brush then wiped down With a rag with get rid of any wire brush fragments does the trick. After big bbq best to clean thoroughly with dishwashing liquid and steel wool..not forgetting to wipe/rinse it to ensure no steel wool on the grate.. simple
He's right! I've worked in the GI lab before and that happened way too often.
Thanks for your comment, these wire brushes are scary stuff....just can't believe they're still being sold.
@@Redmeatlover very much so! And like you mentioned, they get caught in your food. And that's an instant trip to the Emergency Department. Just want to say that I've been following your videos for about a year or so. You give great reviews and tips on how to barbeque the right way. I appreciate the detailed videos and I hope you are safe your beer is cold and your grill is hot!
We appreciate your support! Comments like this make our day
Interesting method. I'll have to give it a try next time.
I love my wire brush. Gets the job done better than anything else I've come across - and I don't need to take my grate out before every grilling. If you work at a gastrointestinal lab at hospital or some other medical facility you are a hot spot for every time irresponsibility is looking for someone else to blame. I clean my grill before and after every use with a WIRE brush. I also check my grill in case a piece came off. I understand the risk involved. I have no plans of changing out my wire brush for a ball of aluminum foil that is just as likely to tear a small piece off in the welded spots of the grate, get picked up by food, and put a piece of metal inside my children.
Every decision invites some level of risk.
If you understand the risk you can mitigate or eliminate the danger without throwing away a useful tool.
The solution is simple.
Use the most useful tool. Don't buy a cheap one. Get a quality one that will last for years even if it is 20 or 30 dollars. It is worth it. Check your grill grates before you cook just in case.
Problem solved.
I clean mine in the utility tub with a couple of SOS pads and rinse it thoroughly.
Cook on a yoshi mat or straight aluminum sheet?
That onion works wonders...I couldn't believe how well it work
Just let the fire burn it while scrubbing the grill with the wire brush. Comes of much easier. And you can easily see if a price of wire is on the grill.
While fairly rare it is not worth the risk. Toss those wire brushes. I use what looks like a thick Scotch-Brite pad with a handle.
A stiff nylon bristle brush, soap and a garden hose does a good job getting grates pretty clean.
I just cleaned my weber using a stiff nylon brush works great. I really dont want to scrape metal on metal.

While rare, the metal bristles have broken off and people have eaten them leading to severe medical issues.
Friend got a wire in his throat and it was a serious ER visit. Never again. Going to try foil. Thanks
It's happened to my family SEVERAL times, to where my daughter is afraid of grilled food.
We are very sorry to hear that! They are truly dangerous. However, thank you for your post so others can see that this is a real thing.
You should probably replaced your brush the first time it happened - brushes I use haven't failed. Also, inspect your grill before you cook anything on it. It could have loose brush wires to ants to random debris on it that showed up when you weren't looking.
Several times? Once should be enough
Excelent! I believe we have to clean the grill every use, but we are lazy 😁
For sure!
Love your videos Joey, could you possibly cook a lobster on the grill?
Thx for comment and that’s a great idea. Lobster is the red meat of the sea after all 🤔
@@Redmeatlover what about using shrimps instead? (also?)
I burn mine off over a fire but I’d like to see a lobster too if you’re up to it
I’ll continue to use my grill brush. I’ve always made sure to wipe down my grill with a paper towel after using my grill brush. Not only that, I’ve seen a lot of people light the grill and immediately start putting meat on it. I let mines sit for awhile and burn off anything that might be left on. No one has ever gotten sick. This is good advice for some people just not for me. Good video tho!
Nice
Thanks!
My girlfriend taught me that method 👍🏽
You can use a lemon or orange also
Never tried it but have also heard it works. Onion seems to be popular.
Been using wire brush for 20 years and no issues , just use your eyes and look at the grates when you are done
Well concerning his haircut and voice, also his hey look at me personality he voted for Hillary Clinton and joe
I also bet he has a 4x4 lifted 4runner that he only drives to work 🤣
I think you need to see a doctor. This is simply someone giving their opinion on how to clean a bbq - wtf are you talking about you nutcase?
@@Denverscorpiojokes aside I can bet a lot of people who start a grill drunk do get this problem, but an inspection and prior wipe down should prevent any issues like this
Good video but what about bristle free coiled grill brushes?
Those are much much safer!
Thanks....I just bought one of these wire grills a couple of weeks ago at the Dollar Tree. Throwing it away asap.
Great video! The correct way to say "it's not good" in spanish is "No es bueno"...
People eating bristles or scared of it happening. You do realise that you can spray down the grate with a hose after cleaning it lol
I read try Soaking the Grate in vinegar and salt over night then scrape it To get RUST off !?
I always hated those wire brushes. I’ve gotten those razor sharp metal bristles in my pork chops plenty of times. Forget swallowing a fish bone, those bristles are basically sewing needles. I use steel wool instead.
Stay stafe guys
Stay classy.
The only reason I’m watching this is because somebody I know ingested a wire bristle!
Shavings from the aluminum foil come off?
If the Grate is Rusty should i just Replace ?
Scrub it with a wire brush and get a bunch of paper towel and pour any kind of cooking oil on it and wipe the grate really well on both sides. Sometimes you have to do it twice and put it on the grill and turn on high
I have never heard of that before but will consider it. The foil looks wasteful and a bit of a pain. Might as well use a pressure washer.
The foil will be much cheaper than a trip to the ER
Foil can be recycled 100 percent. Unlike plastics.. also you can wash it and use couple of times or if using foil for cooking ( say foil packet veggies/corn) save it and use it for cleaning after. Two uses same piece of foil.. Do that and you actually never need to buy metal pot scrubbers again..
New Weber wire grill replacement. $22.00 at Lowe's. Or you can scrub.
Just put them in a self cleaning oven overnight, rinse , oil and bake again@ 400 for a hour , just like new!
Make an update video :)
Guys check out the Boyer Brush!
A little thatching, aeration, fertilizer and over seeding goes a long way. 😁
Well played sir!
A friend of mine came very close to dieing because he injested a bristle from a grill brush and it pierced his intestines. NOT GOOD! Good advice through away your grill brush.
It’s happened to soo many people across the country. These wire brushes need to be discontinued. Hope your friend of ok now
My mom told me about the dangers of it and I just read on Facebook about one of my friends going to the ER. Fuck all the bs
Sorry to hear that! The manufactures of these wire brushes don’t care about you
Why not just wipe down and inspect after using the wire brush and before the next grill?
Tried foil but it left little aluminum pieces on the grate.
Perhaps it was too loosely balled? That has never happened here but we only use heavy duty foil
Same happened here. The foil ball cleaned very well but left bits of aluminum foil on the grates. I used a good quality foil but not the heavy duty type. I will stick to other types of cleaning pads. I have used other pads such as the copper or stainless pads. Replace the pads after a couple of uses. Eventually they all wear out. I will never use the aluminum foil pads again.
Hell yh man
Bc those wires are bad
package glaze and dipping the brush in the base ; shoom
Na man. Take a cherry or hickory plank and put some grooves in it to match your grate widths... get the grill hot and burn them in. Make them deeper with a red hot rod of the same size if you choose. Cut the board on a 30 or so degree angle first. No metal to consume.
Scared me at 3:13...lol
pretty simple actually..... I go to the restaurant supply store and buy the same cleaning pads the chefs use.... I use them everytime if grill...so the next time I want to grill then I know my grill is clean before I start the fire..... its a cooking utensil ...why wouldn't you clean the grill.... do you let the wife keep soiled dishes every where until you need to use them again... of course not....
and guys... a water hose to wash out the ash is good too... the water won't wash away the seasoning you built up by using the grill... the water just washes away the stuff you don't want on your food.... and if your grills are small enough to fit into a dish washer... then put them in your dish washer and clean them.....
Bust out the sand blaster and pressure washer.
Or you just clean it right after you grill;) that way the next time you use it you don’t have to deep clean it. Heat heat and clean 😂
But I’m too busy eating!! 😝
Been using the foil method at home on dishes for years. This makes too much sense.
I use an onion
power washer works good
Aluminum toxicity is a thing though. If you know somebody who has impaired kidney function, don't use it on your grill. Get a grillstone (pumice) or a lemon (with or w/o salt). Steel wool. There are a lot of options. That said, for normal people it's probably not a problem and your body excretes it through a number of ways. And it sure beats eating a wire.
Never use metal on porcelain grates!!!!
For all his talk there's no way that grill is cleaned every time he uses it lol
Im one of those weird ones. I clean every single time also.
The grill grate is cleaned before every use...you don't want yesterday's food on today's meal!
My sister in law had to have a pice of the wire remove from her intestine!!!!
Pressure washer.
No bueno !
Jesus.
How about we clean it the right way....wire brush...then wash it like a regular dish...dry it and then oil it and then bada bing bada boom - grill time.
That's a good idea, I use the Weber wire brush right after taking my last piece of meat off, I like the idea of washing like regular dish, what is your method of oiling supposed to do? Prevent rust? Also what sort of oil do you recommend? Olive oil? Cheers.
The easiest way to clean a grate is: use an angle grinder with a wire brush and then an abrasive wheel.
If the wires are getting stuck to the grill then you didn't get it clean. Actually scrape the crud off and there is nothing to stick to.
What a dumb idea smh
This is a bit intense for everyday grill cleaning. I think shows like "Monsters Inside Me" (which showcased just such an event of a grill bristle getting stuck in a small child's digestive system) and social media have blown this event WAY out of proportion. My Grandfather used wire brushes, my Dad used wire brushes and I use wire brushes. No problems ever.
I also inspect the grate after using a wire brush in case one came out.
Unfortunately society in America has become so risk adverse that if anything can harm our precious little snowflakes we immediately want to ban it. The most minimum of effort of looking at your grill grate to see if a piece of your wire brush came off is absolutely worth not taking your grate off entirely, balling up valuable heavy duty aluminum and scrubbing down every inch of the grate with a loose piece of foil that is just as likely to tear off a small piece in a corner of a weld and get transferred through food to a person.
Wire brushes are super useful; understand the risks of using them; be smart about how you are using them. Don't ban them.
Anybody else never cleaning their grill grate?
Not me just buying a grill brush after already using the foil method and finding out I was doing it right the whole time 🙃🥲
