Saw the clip on Twitter and was like “oh cool there’s a little animation to go with the song”; I didn’t realize you coded an entire fight to go with it. Fantastic job (remix is great as well too)
As someone who grew in windows era and played pc-98 like my life depended on it This is scarily accurate, so much in fact i would have cried if i lost at the ending
This is really, really well done. The PC-98 recreation of her fight, and the excellent cover (I really like what you did with the chorus especially) itself. I can tell there was a lot of effort and heart put into this. You said you're gonna be putting more time aside to work on game dev, right? Seems like you have a bright start already on multiple fronts. I wish you the best of luck!
"there can be more color displayed at the same time" yeah Chimata sprite would 100% not be displayed but this is amazing, you even coded the ability card lol
This fandom is overflowing with the most feverishly creative people I've seen. No matter how much I love something I could never have this level of motivation. Incredible work.
The fun thing is this is probably one of the most "touhou" touhou projects out there. ZUN makes the music first, then shapes the games around them. Here you remade the track, and decided to remake the fight while at it. How is that not extremely touhou.
"ZUN makes the music first" may I get a source on that? aspecially in the pc-98 era? because i don't think that's a "golden rule that ZUN follows always"
@@JanxZ And you'd not be wrong about this, but the biggest indicator for this comes from the Untold History of Japanese Game Developers interview in 2013 which is on the touhou wiki, which states the following: >JS: We’ve spoken about your games. But it’s more than that. A lot of people love the music. Tell me about that, since I believe you have no formal training in music? >ZUN: Originally I belonged to the concert band, or orchestra club, while in school. The ultimate reason why I created Touhou is because I wanted to make game music at first. I was more interested in making music for games rather than the games themselves. So I made all this music, and I thought great, I’ll find someone’s game and put it in. But I didn’t know anybody who was actually making games. So the next thing I thought was, right, I better make a game for this music to be used in. >JS: I’ve never heard this before… Touhou was born from your desire to create a game that matched the music you had already made? >ZUN: Yes, to start with, that’s right. The reason that there’s no releases between 1998 and 2002, that’s when I started at Taito… When I decided I wanted to do doujin at that point, I was actually planning to make a doujin music group. The name of the group, Shanhai Arisu Gengakudan or “Shanghai Alice Ensemble”, actually has a musical theme. So about 6 months to a year prior to this [around 2001], I applied to Comiket as a music circle, and I got rejected! So I thought to myself, I guess I gotta make another game… Even now when I make the games, I consider the programming of them as my job. Whereas I consider making the music for them, making music in general, to be my hobby. And prior to that question he's asked: >JS: How has your development process changed from when you first started? >ZUN: My method, my approach, hasn’t really changed. I think the only thing that’s really changed is that I do it in a nicer place now. So yes, it's most likely he's making the music first before putting together the game, because he wants to make game music. Of course, this being a ten year old interview, things will have changed, and thus I cannot say much about any such changes myself.
@@Brashgar I remember watching a documentary where he explained his process coming up with concepts, making music and designing spell cards around them
Man really went from just want to creating PC-98 remix into making recreation of Chimata's fight altogether. I can imagine how much effort you put into this. One of my favourite theme from th18. Totally legit remix, hats off to you man!
I'm really curious to see how you made this, it looks really clean! And yeah, moving from music making to game making is totally understandable. If you need any advice, this is my forte, so please don't hesitate to ask!!
It was made with FNA-XNA, and borrowed some mechanics from Danmakufu. I do have good experience on programming so making one of these is not a problem for me.
>recreates the whole fight as a pc-98 homage What the fuck, holy shit. Absolute legend, every other youtube touhou cover artist pales in comparison. Chimata's not the only god here. I'm blown away.
This is absolutely incredible. The music, the visuals - and the way the bossfight transitions into the music tracker, it's just all so good. amazing effort!!
This needs more attention and you need to have more subscribers, such effort cannot go unappreciated. This was some good remix and gameplay, especially without a hitbox imo

you mean at once or it only had 16 colors to choose from?

I really, really want more people to make make PC-98 recreations of fights.
They really should do that, or just make a skin for the game so it can be PC-98

If we could hear the sound from the game, this would such a cool boss fight.

I have a feeling it would be harder to animate it than to actually code it xd
