Nirvana - Something In The Way [BBC Sessions]

- 'Something In The Way' Recorded 11/9/91. A radio broadcast recording for the BBC. A much louder, electric version than the official studio release. The hidden track 'Endless Nameless' appeared on a number of 'Nevermind' pressings by leaving this song playing after it's finish, approximately 13 minutes in. Most of these hae been converted from lossless audio .FLAC files.
This version is so sad that Kurt made even the guitar cry
I wish there were more of these slower nirvana songs with atmospheric, haunting guitar in the background. I love this.
I like the atomsphere of that song, it sounds like a mixture of sadness and anger
This is one of my favourite songs from Nirvana, it has that great atmosphere as you said...and yet Kurt always has those beautiful vocals. The guitar work and distortion on this version are impeccable.
Sid vincious same with this one soundcloud.com/user-744635445/something-in-the-wayproddjmp2
@@xanakinskywoker1817 what was it?
...and death
Fits with Batman huh?
He was the magician of feedback. Impressive guitar skills. Much greater guitar player than he ever wanted to admit and one of the best songwriters ever.
Amen
To this day the guitar sweeping in the chorus still gives me goosebumps
Every time my mind goes dark places, I come back to this specific version of that song. Lately I come quite often to it.
same.
hope you're doing okay
Bad times don’t last. Hang in there.
This is not a song about depression,
This is depression singing
I LOVE that guitar squeele, it gives it a dark eerie feeling
I love the guitar in the background is weeping. it fits this song so well
This WAS the original song. But they couldn't nail it in the recording studio. So Butch took Kurt aside and asked him to just play it on his guitar and that became the base for what turned out to be an acoustic song. So if youve ever wondered why Something in the Way is so different from the rest of Nevermind thats why. It was actually meant to be recorded like on this video. So this kind of is the original song.
No thats not right. Kurt went into the control room and said, "It's supposed to sound like this." And then did it. It's on the making Nevermind Classic Album documentary.
@@djinntoy yes he said that because they couldn't nail the meter on the electric version. so kurt went in there and showed Butch how he wanted it to sound on acoustic guitar. then Butch made him play it acoustically and that's how they kept it. apparently kurt played the whole thing while lying on his back.
I am kinda glad because I like the studio version the most. This is great though, and it sounds like the version they did in Japan, so powerful.
SOUNDS THE SAME,WHAT THEY DID IN JAPAN CONCERT..
@@mikepatrick3364 The first live performance (November 1990) and the rehearsal demo version are very close to what's heard on the album, just with a clean electric guitar instead of acoustic, so it's most likely that the electric version was an idea they came up with later on when Nevermind was already recorded.
2:51 - Cobain gets the noise on the overdub guitar track to harmonize with the chorus. Brilliant.
Best song writer ever, end of. 🙂
i told you he was brilliant
greatness as its purest form!
i love that. this should have been the version on the albumn
@@gregb9253 i think that too
I can hear the earth shivering.
The sounds he was able to get from his guitar. Out of this world.
this is best of somthing in the way
try with the Denmark or the Osaka live version.
delilah brownstein hmmm the unplugged one is mint to
Yes.
This haunts me. I must have listened to it 100 times in the past week. wow. chills down my spine. I can't believe I haven't heard it before now. I've been a fan 20 plus years
Angel Dorminey this is a very good version of this song
I remember hearing this on a bootleg in 1995 and was blown away by it. Still am to this day.
25 year fan and only hearing it now, don't feel bad
Same dude, the the feedback is just whaling on in the background gives me goosebumps everytime.
Welcome friend... we all had that experience... now we are here forever!
I like this more than the original. But the MTV version with that soulful cello is pretty good too
I don’t like that cello was tuned down in the unplugged version the high notes didnt hit the same
indian nirvana fan. Hard to find
@@vastaviksam2784 my thoughts exactly
@@vastaviksam2784what makes you say that?
@@vishnujyo6707why do you think it's hard to find an Indian nirvana fan? They were like the biggest band in the world at some point so I think it wouldn't be that crazy.
Love this version!
+Tomnedreb Do a cover!
same
dude i see you everywhere
I'd love to see you cover this some time
+TheMancheggs right?
Wow...this version is almost beter than the original...beautiful
N CYRKLS almost? One time I was so amp' up on yayo I cried to this song😬
N CYRKLS soundcloud.com/user-744635445/something-in-the-wayproddjmp2 check this one out
this is way better than original
Absolutely HAUNTING. Cried the first time I heard this version.
I’m sad and confused and nothing is okay
This song exemplifies that and makes me feel normal
Thanks uncle kurt
Uncle?
Same here...
you mean daddy kurt
This version is what major depression really feels like .
This is bliss. You clearly dont have major depression!
IAN m this version soundcloud.com/user-744635445/something-in-the-wayproddjmp2
When I lost everything besides my dog, clothes, & tools, I listened to Nirvana & Alice In Chains religiously. My friend thought it would make me more depressed but it had the opposite effect on me.
@@adamturner1563 Why is it a fucking competition you goof ball
What gets me is you can feel this fucking smile and say it's nothing.
I like this version more than the one that ended up on Nevermind.
They put it on never mind delux
these electrifying guitar riffs are slicing my soul
I love how the guitar feedback sorta harmonizes with Kurt
Nevermind's version made it known to most, the live in NY version ate away your soul and this one blew what was left out of the water... It's been resonating within me since i had my hands on this song...
my favorite version of this song for sure
+Bokoyfourtwenty Tabagrong yeah deffs mad erie ! great atmosphere
CHUCKYLOSTIT yep dark and heavy
The version they did in '92 in Osaka is a close second.
It would have been awesome if they had surprised everyone and used this session for the trailer. No need to remix perfection
One of the best uses of Feedback that Kurt has ever used. The feedback takes on an eerie quality during the chorus.
It so much different..but yet... intriguing
I like this version better than original one
This is my favorite version. Perfect everything!
When that light touches the sky, it's not just a call, it's a warning. They think i'm hiding in the shadows, watching waiting to strike. I am the shadows.
I'm a HUGE fan how the hell have I not heard this!?! This is great!
Check out “sappy”
I get chills every time I listen to this version
Best version for a manic depresive
Listening to this on the Nevermind Deluxe release for the 20th Anniversary right now for the first time ever. Came here just to find it and see what others were saying. Absolutely incredible and so much better than the actual album version.
At least there's no Batman comments here
Did you know that this was in the Batman lol
I listened to this one time and it’s in my top 10 songs in general of all time
I get chills from this
I have no clue why they weren’t able to nail this in the studio, when it clearly sounded amazing here! Dave sounds way better hitting as hard as ever without needing to hold back
This recording is heaven.
Stunned . Brilliant version
The wailing background noise is haunting.
So much better than the original
phizfrail The big black cock sessions is better than the original
This is that feeling some of us have since birth and never could put a educated thought towards it just a sound a feel and just enough words over and over and over again
This is incredible. How have I never heard this before?
OH MY GOD THE CHORUS TO THIS IS SO GOOD
This version is haunting. I love it!
This is the best version for me.
This confirms 'Something in the Way' is essentially a Doom Metal song.
Favorite version! 🤙🏻
haunting
Wow...this is the best version of this song.
You gotta remember Kurt way of song writing, was doing a verse about one thing. Same song different verse . Absolutely nothing to do with last verse. So often his songs were four short stories from his life experience, passionate subjects dear too him. So unless he was doing a cover. Good luck trying to figure it out. R.I.P Kurt, eventually the truth will come out about your murder. I miss your kind spirit
Holy shit.....
I love nirvana
FC Porto not as much as SLBenfica! :)
love the feedback track
Love love this version
I like it very much Boituva SP Brazil
i got to see nirvana in 1989 London Astoria by accident was looking to seethe cult but got days mixed up ! mental
how was the show?
This version is incredible
like an open ended painting...repetition sublime
This is the best version. Waay better than the one on the album
After all these years!!! it's the first time I hear this version!!!
Brilliant!
wow a more version of grunge
The grunger the better right ♥️
My favourite version.
Because it’s heavy
Sergeant Kek chill man, don’t gotta be insulting
@@lukey8692 is he talking about the bbc word
I love this version
I found this version years ago via bootleg and that howling from the guitars sounds like semi's on the hwy late at night. I've always lived near one. Puts me to sleep.
version as depressive as possible, holy shit, I love you forever Kurt, thank you. go Brazil
That distortion armnocis man... combined with the vocal melody. Such a good way to describe the depression felling.
Love this version.
Facundo Fernandez specially the distortion what do u think of this version it’s like a sample from that soundcloud.com/user-744635445/something-in-the-wayproddjmp2
@@xanakinskywoker1817 not there bruh
it is so... powerful
This version is so underrated
Magnifique!!!
I always loved this session
Best version
This song feels like dying and being born at the same time
this is better then the original, fight me
No doubt man ! This is dark af !
best version , the one performed live which was sooo heavy and loud wish they had it :(
I'm going through some old stuff and I came across the tape I recorded from this live session. I don't have a tape player anymore.. It's been a long time since i heard it last.. Thank you :-)
This is the best version, I Love It.
I'm not a person that crying too much but every time when I'm alone and hear this song I start crying.
Damn, this is way more "dark" than the official one on *Nevermind*!
the chorus makes me feel like when they stop time in movies and things come to a screeching hault but in a badass way
Oh to be a fly on the wall during this whole BBC session, absolutely Brilliant output of transcendent genius. My FAVORITE band of all time. srry Beatles
Beautiful⭐⭐⭐
Fucking hell i never knew this existed! Its amazing!
so beautiful
imo the best version
This version is so good. Hmm ❣️❣️
i jsut love the guitar in this version.. so haunting
This version sounds so modern tbh I like it
I know this sounds so stupid but I kinda hate that this song was used in Batman. I know nirvana has been around for a while now and it’s not like they’re super unknown or whatever, but this song seriously helped me through so much stuff. Particularly this version and to hear it become overplayed just kinda, idk, puts a sour taste in my mouth. Again, incredibly selfish I know
This is awesome but I’m glad the original was the original.
Long live Nirvanaaa
so much dissonance. that backing guitar is just agonizing. perfect
love what he's playing on his guitar when he sings something in the way epic!
Damn. This version is amazing.
So many good Nirvana nuggets, hard to find tracks here on youtube. I might have to make a mixtape of my favorites.
whaw!
very good version !!!!!!
