    Fish Hawk,great video as always,love the scenery and the locations you fish.Ive recently started winter fishing several years ago and I love it,caught many trout on the trout magnet and the black roostertail w/a silver blade,my recent catch on New Year's Eve was a 24in 6.8lb tiger trout caught out of Pennypack creek in Philadelphia.Keep bringing these fascinating videos love to watch them they keep me involved with fishing year round.Keep on fishing fellow fisherman,and keep reeling.Good luck in the 2022 season.

    Followed my commitment.
    Keeping from getting wet is the major issue fishing in the winter. The water just pulls the heat right out of your flesh. A catch is great, but no catch and it's not quite as enjoyable as spring, summer, fall fishing often is.
    Bigger fish often go to deeper water in the winter. More warmth and slightly higher likelihood of finding food. Most importantly being in deeper water helps reduce the chance of freezing.

    I wish we had more trout streams like this in my part of the country. We're mountainous so a lot of our streams have tons of rocks, lose a lot of elevation in a hurry, don't get wide and meandering as the midwestern creeks and streams seem to do, and those few places which are wide and meandering tend to be so shallow and/or choked with plants, it's very tough to use a spinner; as is my preference.
    Still, I've been out scouting some spots. My local river *does* produce some quality browns. And hopefully, starting in late February, the water will start to come up. We had a terrible drought in 2021 that slowed many local waters to a trickle.

      @ohmsweethohm7259 2 роки тому

      Trout set facing up stream so they can eat while expending the least amount of energy possible at least in a creek, stream or river. Casting a spinner or anything up stream is the most natural presentation for trout fishing and that’s why it’s so effective in any case.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  2 роки тому

      Upstream is my go to. I will switch it up if I see trout that aren’t biting. I’ll try different retrieve speeds and different angles to try and get the fish to bite.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks David! Honestly, my toes were pretty cold lol. I was wearing special pants under my waders that are made for cold weather wading. They are fleece and they have little fabric “stirrups” at the bottom that go around your heel so that they don’t slide up your leg when you put your waders on. I was also wearing a pair of wool socks with some adhesive toe warmers made by Hot Hands. The toe warmers really didn’t help at all when I was in the water. But when I stood on the bank, I could feel their warmth and it would warm my toes up enough to go back into the water if I needed to.

    Hey fish hawk! Been a big fan for over a year now and just wanted to say thanks for the regular content! I’m a Navy guy originally from Minnesota and I’m currently stationed in Maryland. Do you have any suggestions on places I can fish for trout in the surrounding area?

    • @crazyfingers19
      @crazyfingers19 2 роки тому +1

      Not sure where you are in MD (assuming Annapolis) but there are good opportunities all around. My suggestion would be Big Gunpowder Falls just north of Baltimore. It runs between Prettyboy Reservoir and Loch Raven Reservoir. Since it flows out of the bottom of Prettyboy it stays cold year round which is just how trout like it. I have never fished it (I’m in PA) but have heard the stories for years. If you want to make a day trip out of it, you can come up I-83 to York and I will take you out on one of my favorite winter trout streams (there are a lot of choices) To me there is nothing better than winter trout. I have been skunked one time in the last 40+ sessions. Let me know. There’s is only a month or so left until they close some of the streams for stocking.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  2 роки тому +1

And one last question: what is the best way to unhook the trout without hurting it? I find that they are an incredibly fragile. Thanks -Terri M.

      Yeah to say "I like your stuff long as you like mine" sounds pretty stupid. A very good reason not to follow you 😉

    If I caught a fish on every cast I think I would give up fishing permanently and take up basket weaving hahahah . I'm not disappointed if I dont catch a fish on every cast ; I am thankful hahaha. This guy, at the beginning of the video sounds like he wants fish on every cast . That would make me koo koo for coco puffs and I would wanna go to talk to my therapist instead of continue fishing for the day hahahaa.

    Question, are these locations in public land? On private? Do you get permission ahead of time? So much creeks and rivers my state are restricted private property.. need an app to find out if on private or not.. still get life threatened ... crazy folks.. get off my property.. even if app says is public.

      I fish public and private. For private land I always knock on their door and ask permission first. Most of the time they say yes especially since I’m catch and release.
