awesome better world owner paul is a friend and is a very lovely man the shops now unfortunately closed but you can still buy things from his online store .Appreciate the shout out he would be happy to know that
I was at a show once and dude had a sign that basically said "don't pull out books you are not going to buy. Don't make me re-sort a bunch of dollar books". So, I only pulled out books I wanted - the lesson being that sellers should let buyers know their expectations in advance to make the transaction go smoother.
When I do shows my £1 ,£3 boxes are unsorted never had any complaints. The other boxes are only sorted by publishers unsorted marvel box , unsorted dc box , Indie box . The only time I have got annoyed at an event was when some teenager threw a box of cards 5 000 cards scattered on the floor ( I wasn't happy. They weren't sorted . But it's just annoying) other than that never had any issues with any customer.
Another UK sub here, love your content! I think one of the reasons for your UK popularity is that your sense of humour is very dry and that appeals to the UK crowd. Keep up the good work!
As a UK collector I've been to scores of different shops and stalls. Most UK comic shop sellers are rude, autistic, don't actually want to sell and have a bad attitude. I only shop online now.
That’s something that drives me nuts when I see a comic shop not price their books so they can look at eBay at the last moment to raise the price! I walk out every time if I see that
UK subscriber here. Love your videos and take on the comic market in general. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep ruffling those feathers when you need to!
Yeah! You shouldn't treat your customers badly but I've gotten some of my best deals over the years by learning to make friends with collectors that have no social grace or even may be "on the spectrum" as they say these days! Some old guys will get mad at you just for being young! Enjoyable video for sure!
He might be on the spectrum. I started collecting casually when I was about 50. I was stunned by the lack of social skills of some LCS owners. If you don't like people, learn to fake it. Many people do that. It's just smart business. Honesty is no virtue if it becomes rudeness.
I grew up in Pontypridd, this is 100% accurate to what that shop owner is right. He’s a rip off and likes to make people feel stupid if they don’t listen to his pricing. Put me off engaging with comics and shops like his and still feel a bit of anxiety going into them now.
Nope you want it cheap and want to resell it for more. The review is fair but as a business owner I can tell you are looking something underpriced that you can resell. I hate hypocrits
I have found this is really bad right now, because people have alot of price memory from the highs of 2 years ago. I go into stores seeing books at 800 bucks I know I can find for 300 on ebay as buy it nows. Some shops are willing to look and adjust prices, others wont come down more then 10%. Very frustrated.
I had an experience many years ago in a UK comic shop. I had recently moved, so was looking for a place to get my weekly books! I collected mainly DC at the time but did pick up a few indies and Marvel. So one week-end I went looking, I found a small shop at the end of the main high st. which advertised outside on a bill board, come in and enjoy coffee and comics. I went in, there were a number of boxes of comics dotted about none in bags or boards and all mostly dog-eared and no more than reading copies, nothing you would want to buy and then keep in a collection, but they did have prices stuck to them so they were for sale. There were several people sitting around chatting, reading and drinking coffee. I worked out who the owner was by the conversation going on, but he didn't seem to acknowledge me, he just continued chatting to what I assume were his regulars. I was about to leave, when one of the "regulars" said oy! Charlie you've got a customer. This Charlie then said "yer! what do you want?" Very customer focused, I don't think!! I asked if he sold new issued comics, he said he did and what ones do I want. So I gave him my list! After looking at it for a few seconds, he proudly told me he didn't order DC shit or indie rubbish, but he would the Marvel books. I was pretty stunned by this, but just took my list from him and left. Takes all sorts, I suppose! This was in the early 90's and the list was for about 40 books a month, I eventually found a great comic shop that I've used for 30+ years! That other place closed down about a year later!
Yeah I have had similar experiences. Can’t avoid some crazies in life, unfortunately. The UK has some “unique” comic shop owners that’s for sure - I’ve been scammed twice (on a Conan 1 mail order, and a first SA Catwoman). Scummy.
Loved the video!💕 Just started my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
AWESOME VIDEO, Sticky.. I love how you're honest letting us know this guy is a fan of yours.. Very cool! I've been away from your channel for a minute, so just catching up.. Appreciate the hard work and amazing commentary..
Sticky is an honorary Brit! You’re welcome to a cup of tea and scone anytime! In fact I almost spat out my tea when Steve said ‘I’m cheap but I’m not that bloody cheap’. Great video 👍
The only thing I can think of was that it might have been at the end of the day and the owner wanted to close up shop? Either way yes, this guy needs to make more videos.
What's really sad is A Better World Comics closed down back in May this year due to ill health. I've got a comic store in Newport, Sin City Comics & Gaming and my partner has known the owner for many years we are really sad for him! And yes the guy in the market at Pontypridd (who he visited) and he is a total dick - how he even has a business is beyond me!
English sub here, I think americans would hate trying to collect in the uk, no flea markets, no yard sales, cgc submitting way more difficult, stores are overpriced and condition of comics way lower, anything with any age has price stamps all over it, its painful...
UK Comic Shop here saying hello ... Liked the video :-) All you UK people, please feel free to sample my wares at Splat Comics and have a rant about me on UA-cam !! (Only kidding... hopefully you will all be happy as Larry)
I give the kid props for The Lost Boys poster. Classic movie, arguably the best vampire movie of all time. I try to make it out to Santa Cruz, CA, where the movie was filmed, once a year for the annual movie showing on the beach.
I agree I think it's funny he's a natural he's not even trying to be funny and he's funny also best light of the day that guy looks like an old Thanos😅😅😅😅
I'm in the UK (England) Sticky'. Always enjoy your videos. 🙂 I can't agree on this one though. I thought his explanation was rather confused. I understood that the books he picked out came to over £1000, not the long box he offered £100 for. 🤔
Steven told me about this guy. So I went and paid him a visit. Surprise surprise he was really nice to me as I was filming and doing a video on UA-cam. The comments people left though said they had a terrible experience.
The shop owner might have been having a bad day, you never know. He could get regular customers low balling him on prices, shoplifters, who knows what else. Agitating the situation by send the shop owner the video is not going to help things.
I will not look through unpriced books. If they can’t be bothered to figure out which ones are the good ones, I will not be doing that work for the low low price of being overcharged for the books you did pull.

I am not British but like him for same reason. He can be a real cunt, but he does it with taste.
I was not ready for that picture of the owner 💀
That’s something that drives me nuts when I see a comic shop not price their books so they can look at eBay at the last moment to raise the price! I walk out every time if I see that
It sounds like the shop owner may have also further damaged the books he had by grasping them from the guy and slamming them down.
"Cheap as chips"
lol ok that one got me rolling on the floor with laughter.

Same.
Thanks a ton, this was super helpful!

The Lost Boys Poster, a man of class 👑
Steven King 👑
Dude is Thanos gone human
Haha, 2:10 Thanos is exactly what I said outloud, too.
He actually looks like Thanos mixed with Homer Simpson
I will pay for you to visit this shop, Sticky 😂. Fully equipped with strap on.

Ikr, our equivalent is carboot sales but it's nothing like yours, just full of trash and stolen items
