Hatching Chicks with the Kebonnixs Incubator and Home Brooder Setup - Three Acre Homestead

  • We purchased and tested the KEBONNIXS 12 Egg Incubator with Humidity Display, Egg Candler, Automatic Egg Turner, for Hatching Chickens.
    In this video we explain our in-house brooder set up for chicks, as well as hatch a few of our own eggs from our laying flock. Chicks take 21 days from the start of incubation to hatch, and this video follows that journey.

      After plugging it in, I did follow the directions that were included with the incubator for set up. If I remember correctly, the default settings are appropriate for chicken eggs, but you would need to change the days of incubation if you're hatching a different egg. As for humidity, I filled the first resevoir for the first part of incubation and used the vent to control humidity. I had to add water every other day. Toward the end of incubation is when I filled both water reseviors. Hope that helps! Next time we use it we'll have to show the set up.

    Thankyou so much! Never seen this before, even tho I was raised on a farm, the chickens had “ their hiding places, and didn’t get to witness from the start of the chick “ opening” their escape hatch to fully see how they crack the egg! Your children are Precious!!

    You have yourself a beautiful homestead! About the humidity levels.....place small 1"x1" cubes of sponges in the water reservoir a few days before hatch. This adequately raises the humidity levels.

    Glad you handled them gently…love your room!
    I took a children photo shoot once, the mother told me many chicks died afterwards…kids handled them too rough…..never forgot that and now 30 years later I have chicks! The Nurture 360 holds 22, I saw you can stack to maybe 30…
    Maybe do not scrape incubator along counter…the noise might upset embryo chick…
    Really enjoyed your happy video!

    Great video! I just got that same incubator not too long ago and will be using it very soon. I have hatched in a similar incubator, the Brinsea Mini II. The one thing I would recommend is once you take the turner out is to add something with some grip to it, I use some non slip cabinet liner cut to fit so they have some traction. We had one chick with a broken leg and it may be because it was so slippery on the hard plastic and maybe slipped. Just a thought. Again great job!!!

    Did you take the hatched chicks out as they hatched? I thought you were supposed to leave them in there till all the eggs hatched so the temp won't drop from taking off the lid. I'm new at this. :)

    • @salomeacreshomestead

      That is in theory the way to go about it, but we had to remove some chicks that were knocking around the other eggs too much. We had a nice warm space for them to move in to and we didn't see it change the humidity too much.

    Hello, greetings, I have a question. I just bought that incubator new model but the same and I already laid my eggs but the humidity is very high at 71%. I don't know how to lower it. There is a hole for ventilation. I have it halfway and nothing and at the moment the temperature rises to 99.7 and 99.9. I don't understand if I programmed it for 99.5 because the temperature rises, if you can help me, thank you.

    • @salomeacreshomestead

      This was just the first time we used it, but did not have issues keeping the humidity within a good range. We added a bit of water every day and a half or so.
      During the last few days we opened the vent all the way, increased humidity, and the temp stayed consistent (did not go up to 100). Ours all hatched over three days, so maybe there's hope for your last three!

    • @salomeacreshomestead
      @salomeacreshomestead  2 роки тому +1

      I hope it's leveling out for you, however, make sure that you're using the vent (openning it more lowers humidity, closing more raising humidity). If your environment is very humid, you might have to remove some of the water in the resevoir to lower humidity. Or you would add water to raise it. I remember it took a bit for ours to get to where we needed it to. Good luck!

      We pull our chicks out once they are dry and fluffy, but they can safely stay in the incubator for up to 48 hours.

    • @Arthur-ek7nd
      @Arthur-ek7nd 2 роки тому +1

      The chicks absorb the yolk for calories and liquids, and can survive without food or water for around 48 hours. When chicks are hatched by a hen, they stay under her for the first couple days before she takes them out to learn to eat.

    • @salomeacreshomestead

      The incubating process is 21 days, and they can be candled usually any time after 7-10 days. Typically you don't candle them for the last three days because they are orientating themselves to hatch. We were unsure if all the eggs we were using were fertilized.
