My friends go camping in their RV she said to save water. She keeps a spray bottle with vinegar and water and after they eat she spray's the dishes let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes and she wipes them off and let them air dry.
Brought 2nd hand many years ago a very tiny old picnic suitcase, holds plates, cups, bowls, knives, forks all cooking utensils and washing gear for a family of 5 plus for extra guests, took it camping for years.
One very good thing to have is a large box of baking soda. It can be used to put out kitchen fires, even on the stove or food. You can redeem the food by simply rinsing it off. It is good to wash dishes, deodorize containers and clothes, even for brushing your teeth. I clean my skillets and griddle with it and water, no soap. It rinses clean. It just takes a very small amount to get the job done. Happy Trails!
You have a well organized kitchen gear box. It's amazing what one will cook with and eat out of when camping. I bought most of my kitchen gear at our local Goodwill stores. My dining bowls are large collapsible new dog bowls. For spaghetti pasta I bought one of the Sea to Summit collapsible pots...great space saver. My knives and utensils go into a heavy duty tool roll found at Lowe's. I love the oven you have and I love baking foods, e.g., potatoes, breakfast rolls, donuts, stuffed mushrooms. I've been using a cast iron crock pot but that thing is heavy and not easily packed away. The benefit of watching videos like yours is learning how others organize and applying the knowledge to my kit. I've been car camping for over 50 years but I love picking up tips on fine tuning my own gear. Thank you!
very impressive, coming from a van camper so space is a premium. i really liked the oven, just adds a little depth to camp cooking. the bags for the cutlery ect was a great idea, the roll up thingy seems to just take too much space for what it offers. anyhow, i took some notes, gonna do a little shopping and see where things go, thanks.
Long time campers, till retirement and health issues forced us to stop. (50+ rs). When our first daughter was born we purchased a small used Coleman popup. One day while in a goodwill store I came across a large 100 cup coffee ehrn, took out the insert and would fill up with water.
We usually stayed where there were hook up with water and electric. We'd fill up that pot with water and plug it in on an outside camp table. We'd have hot water for washing dirty children's hands & faces, plus for dishes. It came in very handy. When packing up it was used to store smaller items in. Loved your video, first time I came accross it. Will keep watching from now on. God bless your family, may you have as many yrs of fun as we had. From Ontario, Ca., to Naples, Fla. Whole East coast. Lots of National parks.
Stumbled onto this video because I was looking for inspiration for a camp cooking setup that would fit in a tote that I could just throw in the back of my truck. Happy to say this exceeded my expectations esp. the walk-thru with all the tips and suggested uses. Thanks!
It's always just my husband and I (for years we would camp with others and since they know I cook and bake...guess who was the only one who remembered food and dinnerware?). No more of that! Most of the time if what we makes is cooked in one pan, we skip the plates and just use forks and share. Not for pancakes however!
Ziploc bag storage, i use canvas pencil bags of 4 diff colors and labled with marker for the size bag😉. Has been super workable. Love your video! Always great to hear others ideas 👍😁
Great set-up! The water jug and pump can come in handy in a variety of situations.Water lines become compromised somewhere almost on a daily basis. Power outages, emergency storm cleanup, you name it!
A very useful, as a guy, kitchen review that will certainly help planning my totable kitchen. Love learning from you to help my back woods cooking to go from simple to yummy. Thanks for sharing.👍👍👍
The best thing to clean cast iron or your griddle is fat & salt then you can just wipe it out when done rinse it with hot water, wipe and set it on the stove just long enough to make sure it is totally dry and wipe clean fat on it! Just enough to coat it. Also when putting pots on the open camp fire put dish soap on the outside surface & the black will wash off without scrubbing the pot till your arm has a charlie horse.
Instead of bying expensive vaccum-insulated bowls you can use two or three of the cheep, thin stainless-steel ones at once. That will give you adequate insulation when needed. Bonus is you have extra bowls on hand, that can be handy when processing food. And they stack better and take less room than the insuated ones you showed in the video.
Nice set up for car/family camping. Canoe camping all I use a Rubbermaid Action Packer with a single burner ( gas) cook set and all the food. The Action Packer even doubles as the riverside table and cooking area. For backpacking my Evernew Appalachian Set ( alcohol/wood ) weighs 5.6 ounces and the Evernew titanium non stick frying pan is 4.9 ounces. It fits in my backpack with the food that's repacked in Zip lock Freezer bags. As far as drinking water out of a cup that had Coffee in it , that's how I wash my cup without wasting a single drop of water.
I would highly recommend a Frieling French Press. They are not cheap but IMO the best on the market. I have had two, one for home use and one for camping for over 10 years and they are 100% stainless steel, even the strainer mesh is stainless.
Thanks for the great advice and it's worth mentioning your awesome attitude and your way of presenting camping life, a little dirt doesn't hurt, it's camping !!
Loved your camp kitchen kit. I picked up a few ideas. I also like to have one bin for pantry foods and a smaller bin for all electronics (no more searching for individual items).
Got my three girls to watch your show. Wasn't expecting much to happen but they all love you & show and now all three of them clean up after themselves. Thank you so much folks.! Happy wandering & stay safe. Greetings from Australia.

I thought this would be "another gear" video. I was wrong and pleasantly surprised, this was a fantastic walk-through of tried and true items, some I have, some I wasn't not even aware of. Thank You
Recommend keeping fire extinguisher away from stove while cooking. If a fire starts you cannot reach the extinguisher thru flames. Same idea for extinguishers in your kitchen. Keep on opposite counter away from stove. This recommendation for kitchen from a fireman.
I was given an Omni that works well so for now I’ll keep that for my teardrop galley. It has 2 silicone and one metal pan that all nest in together. I like the idea of the tote though that I could keep in the tow vehicle and bring out for cooking. My concern is the weight of all that.
Great video! I have the same dish drainer and I love it. For car camping, we use 3 collapsible tubs; wash, rinse, and sanitize using the little blue tabs I used back in my bartender days. Also: Coleman oven is THE BEST for cinnamon rolls and cookies and all things jiffy. Yep... camping is grubby, but we roll with it!
Bought the stock pot after watching you use it in an earlier video. It's fantastic! I use it in my kitchen at home and in the truck camper. Great job on this video! Y'all stay safe!
Hi Guys. Thank you for the very interesting video. We were most impressed by the pasta pan that incorporated the pouring holes and the insulated top handles. Very useful indeed. Thanks for all the informative videos. Stay safe. R and J
I buy our dry cat food in 13 lb. bags (my 3 plus several ferals in the neighborhood). These bags are big, sturdy, and roll up well when empty so I save those and use those. They hold "icky" garbage well.
@@LLROCFAN07 Yes! They are great bags and as I do feed the birds with seed (on top of the habitats I build for them, and the bees), I love to save them and use them elsewhere.
We are packing away all our photographs and framed pictures. I’m thinking one large bin with lid but my wife bought two. We got tons to do after 38 years in this home. Great video full of wonderful information. ❤️🇨🇦❤️ Cheers!!!
Not using soap on cast iron came from the days when soap was made with lye. Our current soaps don’t have it anymore. So you can use regular dish soap, just don’t let your soapy water soak longer than 5 minutes max, but in general wash cast iron immediately, dry well, and oil removing any excess. Bake 300 degrees for an hour to allow the oil to seep into the iron and harden.
liked the smaller garbage bag , great to be able to toss away from campsite as you mentioned. I have the same collapsible basin, PRICELESS. Side note, that steak was cooked perfectly for me!
Nice kit! We've been working on narrowing down our kit. I like those bowls & plates you showed bc ours must be like your old ones, too thin! Good video🤙 -Josh
I have servalir bowls from Tupperware they come with lids that make plates and they fit inside each other great because you can serve in a bowl or on a plate
We just came back from our camping trip and forgot water. We drank all our wine from our boxed wine and filled it with water. Then I used that for cleaning dishes. I like the spigot. I was going to look for a water container with one now.
A like for the fire extinguisher and a subscriber for the link. Thank you for sharing. And finally, Another complementary mention for the Coleman oven.. have to look into that!
I live in Florida, we have a hurricane season; and sometimes we have to evacuate. So I put together an emergency tote with all of the utensils and items that you were just talking about into so that if we had to evacuate we could go to someplace safe even if that meant going to a campground out of state.
At a family function I made a comment about adding something to our hurricane kit. A step daughter who is a VP with a large insurance company said: We did a study and no hurricane will ever hit your NJ home! A week later we had Sandy 😢 My kids both live in Florida and we don't go camping there during Hurricane season, I tried that once and Andrew came.
Loved this video. Loved all the tips and products and hacks. One thing: for the water pump, there's a really inexpensive manual pump available and it dispenses water just like yours. Looks almost the same too. No charging required. I'd recommend those over these just to be safe. ❤
Like your concept. For years I had always wanted to build the ultimate Chuck Box that would fit anywhere. That has never been found. Totes on the other hand come in so many different sizes they can be adaptable in many ways. Do offer an idea to your plate problem if it can be found to work which I'm not for sure it can is the bamboo like plate that were used to insert paper plates in. Using these if they can be found and your plates will fit in will eliminate the purchase of additional plates or the aluminum plates be used. The only other draw back that I could see about using the vacume plates is that since they have opened up when you wash them a mold could grow inside. Great video just the same only now looking for your Food Storage System of storage. Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
New gear is cool, but sometimes the simple DIY solutions are best. What I lovingly call our "dining box" (plates, cups, silverware, napkins, etc.) is a plastic ammo can that we were not using. Everything is organized and I can just grab it when we are eating our own cooked food or takeout.
Greetings from Northern California, thank you for sharing this very informative video. I really enjoyed it. It looks like you folks are quite organized and prepared for the next adventure into the Outdoors. The very best to you and your family. Stay healthy and keep camping. 🤗
Sam's has 4 gal water jugs that are just that much easier to handle and walmart has the manual pumps that fit it. Just fyi... Really liked the information about your tote, very good to know!
Great vid...I use paper plates as much as I can ,the last thing I want is to wash dishes..they become fire material to avoid garbage ..cheers & happy camping !
super amazing trip ,really enjoyed following along. everyone did an awesome job editing and looks like you all had a super trip. waiting for the next trip . enjoy your time 1 Be Safe !
I would also recommend looking into a fire blanket to go with the extinguisher. They are very quick and easy to deploy, extremely effective, they don't make the big mess that an extinguisher does, they're reusable, and they take up practically no room when packed. You can put out a cooking fire with the blanket and still save your food. Which isn't going to happen with an extinguisher. I bring a 3x3 fire blanket as my first go to for 99% of fire situations, then the extinguisher as my backup in case things really start to get real. If you've never looked into fire blankets you should really check them out, they are pretty great.
I agree with the fire extinguisher…. May have set the Coleman oven a blaze with a coffee roll sugar fire. The fire extinguisher saved the awning… nice video rock on!
New subscriber. Love your ideas. We have a small campervan but I can't not pack enough for 4 even though there are only 2 of us! Find a steamer over a pan gives more cooking space and can be used to strain.
Very nicely done: articulate, well paced, and rationale for her choices. Loved her self constraining starting point of fitting kitchen gear in a single tote (admittedly, she starts with a pretty good sized tote, but I did not see how it fit in her vehicle). I also liked a woman's perspective (greater emphasis on hygiene and finesse than what a prototypical cave man would choose). I would have loved to see her demonstrate how she organizes the tote items when she gets to the camp site. Her video got me thinking ... and looking on Amazon.
Sarah and Kev I thoroughly enjoyed traveling along as you developed a new loop through Colorado, of which a portion came through where we currently reside during the summer and fall (South Fork). Will miss you all until you are back out exploring. Stay safe.
This is some really great info, I'm currently running a tote as my whole kitchen storage as well. I'm going to toss a brush in my kit after seeing that you carry one.
I recommend the GSI 32oz java press. i have been using mine for a decade, and its still going strong. my light weight option is my Snow Peak 3 cup press. both a little pricy but well worth the money...
I like your setup. Similar to mine. I considered making one of the REI plywood chuckboxes-mainly for organization and just because I like making things. I can’t get past the 47 pound empty weight. I think I’ll stick with the plastic tote.
A plastic bottle full of baking soda, flour, or salt makes a better grease fire extinguisher because you can wash the food off and still eat it. No poisons in the food. My boss at the alarm co. I worked at taught me that.
You guys are just awesome and such a great team - Thank you for sharing! I love your channel and Mr. Sacks is such a good story teller :D Love from Texas.
When your dish rack wears out just get a mesh bag you can hang from a tree. Dishes dry quick in that too. I have yet to try my coleman oven. Dont you keep your extended lighters in the tote too? My kitchen has a sink too a collapsible bucket. Im by myself yet i have a set for 4 packed. But also have multiple cook sets. Just bought some silicone oven mitts, glad to remove the cloth ones. Im constantly looking for upgrades or additions to make a complete kitchen out in the woods.
Where I'm at, the grocery stores and other stores don't have plastic bags anymore. One grocery store near me has paper bags. The smaller, closer grocery store has these bags that are almost like a thin weaker canvas style bag. Not sure what the material is, but they are recycled material. They are pretty good though. I had one outdoors hanging up at my previous home. It had leaves in it and held up well for a whole year. I had one hanging a whole year at my new home too. Pretty tough, for a thin recycled material. Although they can cut easy enough if something sharp or pointy pokes at it enough. Most people these days bring one or more reusable shopping bags in with them. They can buy them in different stores. There's cheap one and not-so-cheap ones. Depends how strong you want the bag to be.

If you use quality stainless steel or titanium dinnerware you can just sanitize it with fire.

Sam's has 4 gal water jugs that are just that much easier to handle and walmart has the manual pumps that fit it. Just fyi...
Really liked the information about your tote, very good to know!
I love the Coleman oven! So fun for glamping.
Awww Caroline in the mudd. Lol I've done that once at a lake when I was kid. Cried my face off too. XD
This is really good. Practical. What camping is really like. Cheap. Thank you. New fan here.
Ah...that one great foldable oven did all the magic in there.... ^_^
I agree with the fire extinguisher…. May have set the Coleman oven a blaze with a coffee roll sugar fire. The fire extinguisher saved the awning… nice video rock on!
Those are great suggestions for camping. Thanks. BTW, you are so sweet, and you remind me so much of my daughter-in-law. Keep On Camping!
Stay safe.
Just added to my Amazon camping wish list. Thank you for sharing!
Love the oven
This is some really great info, I'm currently running a tote as my whole kitchen storage as well. I'm going to toss a brush in my kit after seeing that you carry one.
Just purchased one of your shirts for my wife. Thanks for making all of the great family content. Cheers
I recommend the GSI 32oz java press. i have been using mine for a decade, and its still going strong. my light weight option is my Snow Peak 3 cup press. both a little pricy but well worth the money...
Perfect meal for camping😊
" Camping is Just dirty" . Love it.
I like the dishwasher at the beginning of the video
Lodge has a griddle practically identical to yours. As to dishes, Corelle works great. So does the old school U.S. G. I. mess kit. Kids love them.
I like your setup. Similar to mine. I considered making one of the REI plywood chuckboxes-mainly for organization and just because I like making things. I can’t get past the 47 pound empty weight. I think I’ll stick with the plastic tote.
another great and essential video. thanks for sharing
A plastic bottle full of baking soda, flour, or salt makes a better grease fire extinguisher because you can wash the food off and still eat it. No poisons in the food. My boss at the alarm co. I worked at taught me that.
Really like the bags your store your silverware and utility items in.. great idea!
such a neat kitchen setup!
Thanks for the kitchen overview! I like it all in one tote.
It's a tote chuck box. Very organized
