The Gerber pot set is okay. I personally use a $25 set from Walmart. Stainless steel as well. 2 pots, a skillet, lids for all, 4 cups, 4 lids for the cups, 4 sporks, and 4 plates. Hard to beat all that especially for $25. I'm on year 4 with them still holding up great.
Magnetic = works with induction As far as the gear when I go out I bring a cast iron pan ~ 12”, bbq style tongs, spatula and kitchen spoons, a strainer/mixing bowl combo and one non stick kitchen pot. Pot sets in pan, utensils set + knifes in a chefs style knife roll and bowls set in pot. Fits in a 16” tupperware and I bring a 2 burner camp chef with a convertible griddle thing and a 20lb propane bottle. Overall it works well for my gladiator for camping or tailgating
I agree on the 1-person, slightly smaller version with 2 plates, 2 bowls, slightly smaller pan, smaller pot, no mixing bowl needed, etc. The ComplEATly Enough.
Get some pvc pipe and make leg extenders for your table, did this all the time for catering, add some screw holes and some wing bolts to set the table at different heights if you have uneven ground.
I really like the Sea To Summit camp gear, they do a few pot sizes and then bowls/plates that fit inside. The bowls & plates clean really easy with just water or a bit of kitchen roll. The Sigma pan I have has a swivel/lock handle and metal lid and works on my portable Induction cook top, they also do a collapsable range of bowls, plates, mugs and a pan and silicone 'kettle' with metal base and super lightweight polycarbonate or titanium cutlery. I have a couple of the Delta 2 person sets of the rigid bowls and plates in my campervan - they nest within each other really well and take up very little room - if you buy them as a set they come in a net bag. The mugs come in different sizes, some with neoprene jackets and lids, they are grippy, so great for kids or people with a weaker grip. They also do a small neat Camp kitchen kit that can hang on your door with washup brush, bottles for oils, foldable cooking utensils and a microfibre dish cloth and quick dry tea towel. Other products include a folding sink, which is made of fabric, so tiny. Most of the gear is aimed at hikers, so very lightweight, but also durable. They also have heaps of other outdoor gear, always good quality - one of my favourites is the Pocket (solar) Shower. Worth a look at their gear, new cook ware range Detour and dinnerware Passage have just been launched.
Way too many remote places you'll NEVER visit with your vehicle. Sorry, I'll keep hiking and going more places than vehicles will ever go. Plus keeps you in shape which a vehicle tends to sedate you and overtime fatten you.
I go backpacking so compact stuff is a must. I've found that fozzils bowls are awesome and super compact. You can use them as a plate and cutting board too. They also have wash basins. I use a folding fillet knife from outdoor edge as my everything cooking knife. I've also have a GSI Outdoors Bugaboo aluminum cook set with a removable handle. Sea to Summit also makes a good collapsible cooking pot that doesn't take up much space. I actually use the gerber utinsils cause you can use them as tongs too.
Beautiful set. I would not need so many plates and bowls, either. Stainless is definitely good for induction. If a magnet sticks to it, it works on induction.
I think the cutting board kit is neat .. but I dont like that the board is exposed to all my other gear .. (first thing and last thing I will always have to do is clean the board)
Game changer for me was the water pump adapter from firecrateusa for the scepter 20l Jerry can. I connected the Sawyer Mini Water filter to it and now I have fresh clean running water at camp I can easily refill from streams and lakes
I feel seen, I solo car camp and bring nearly everything lol. Since I bought a Crosstrek and will be sleeping in it when camping I forced myself to minimize, so stuff like nesting pots and pans, etc. One thing that has come in super handy is using a plastic Plano tool box to put nearly all my cooking supplies into. Lightweight, has a handle, tray holds cutlery, knives, etc. A cheap solution that does the job well. I don’t need the Gerber board and knife set but it sure looks great. 👍
I have the Air Down Gear Up Jeep JL rear insert. So I have a drawer and fridge mounted in the back. I have a propane tank I mount to the spare tire. So I keep the JetBoil HalfGen and coffee supplies in the drawer all the time. I have a Sea-to-Summit collapsible pot I keep there too for larger meals when I camp with family.
We pack a lot of stuff too! As a family of five I really liked the larger capacity of the cookware and the bowls are a good size too, it has no cups/mugs so I'd throw the extra plate and bowl in with those. The query about why go hiking made me subscribe 😊
That would have been a nice kitchen kit for my family of 5 car/tent camping in a station wagon cross country kit. I have a Stanley stainless steel 1L pot with lid, 2 soup bowls & a couple of sporks. It is fine, but I had to locate a good nonstick 8” skillet separately.
That is a great Set Casey. Thanks for the Review. Definitely one of the better made sets. And not just designed for backpackers. A little extra weight in the Jeep just keeps the rubber on the trail 😂
From watching a wide array of overlanding videos from MANY You Tubers I am way outside the peak of the bell curve. I have always looked at Overlanding as just an extension of my backpacking using a JT rather than my legs and back to cover MANY more miles of adventure. More power to everyone who invests big $ in all their equipment. I'm sure they're more comfortable than I am . I've been able to use the same equipment for two of my passions and use all that unspent extra $$ to pay for trips. We all adventure in our own ways and kudos to everyone that follow their passion. YOLO.
Great clip mate, thanks for sharing 👍 One thing you didn’t mention though is that the bag the pots come in can actually be used as a washing up sink too mate 😉👍
The thing you didn't know about on the Gerber spork looked like a can opener for cans of liquid like tomato juice. The "thumb" goes on the edge of the can and the triangle is used to punch into the can which allows you to pour out the liquid. It is like the triangle end of a bottle opener. The rounded end is for the bottle cap and the triangle end is for a can.
I like the cutting board set but would prefer the actual cutting board be inside the plastic and protected from cuts, bruises and dirt. I agree with you on the pot and pan set. It is too much stuff. A set for two would be much better for me. Great review.
I totally agree on the comparison video. Some I would love to see is the Stanley adventure cooksets (all Of the versions and different ways they can be put together to give you an “ultimate set up”. Also, have you seen the pathfinder/self reliance outfitters “woodland chef kit”? Back packers pantry? French press? I’d love to get your take!!!
These are great. I just ordered them with a huge discount. I like the size as I camp with my family and not just alone. I have other things if I go alone, that were frankly way too small for a family of even three. I was looking into the Jetboil but with what you get with this the jetboil is out. I have a two burner Eureka stove (same parent company as jetboil) that is relatively small compared to the three burners stoves.
people get full sized kits for a family of 4 when single. you can get tiny kits for single people. good sandwich makers are great for mini griddles. one cup for mixing or drinking, one boilers, steak knife and a paring, wood spoon, wood plate can double as a cutting board or bread mixer. etc. i was always told to remember when single, your food should be about the size of your hand. so if you think about it you do not need much to pack in and out. simple snack meals and dehydraded food requires less work. most only need food for 3 days 9 meals with snacks or 9 hand sized meals.
I like the cutting board container. Looks like they could’ve reduced some of the wasted space if they redesigned the inner mould. Still a nice kit though. Thanks for sharing 👍
I've been looking for something like this. I feel like this would be a great setup for my overland trailer, and I can just take only what I need from the set when I'm just taking the truck out.
I was looking at the items on the website to check the price and saw that the insert with the knives pulls out so you can use the bottom section as a prep tray (eg cut stuff on the board then tip it into the tray until you're ready to cook it)
OMG. The same problem. I pretty much need an intervention. But in all seriousness, the overpacking is starting to kill the joy. It makes everything feel like such a chore and I rarely have more than 3-4 days to spend. When the effort is so much compared to the short time of reward, you start talking yourself out of just GOING. Car is getting turned into bug out vehicle for the summer, and I MUST MUST pare down.
Bag = Sink? With the Gerber nesting pot sets bag, is it designed as a collapsable sink aswell?? Looks sturdy enough, I'd probably use it as a sink. Great video
Thanks for a well informed review. Would you recommend buying the jetboil halfgen with this cooking set? Or would you recommend the full jetboil genesis with the pot and pan? Like you mentioned, I like how thick these gerber pot and pan. Thank you. 🎉
I like the pot set. Looks quality. It's looks about the same size as the JetBoil Genesis Basecamp? Like you, I don't know that I need to carry around four of everything. If I am cooking for myself and the wife and another couple, it would be handy? Too expensive to buy just to use a few items. A solo version makes "ComplEAT" sense. (see what I did there?) That cutting board set is a no-go. Unless you always leave the dirty side out and only cut on the other. Please don't fling the grease in the bushes. Pack it out. I have a sky top. You don’t have the same middle bar across the middle to support the weight of a rooftop tent. The sides are smaller than a hard top or a soft top. It’s about an inch or so from the side to the roof.

As a knifemaker, I can with 1000% confidence say that is false. The ONLY thing that makes a stainless steel "stainless" is a chromium content of over 10.5% in the alloying composition. Every single blade steel in my shop right now, about 10 different alloys, is stainless and is very magnetic.

I want to try to understand your comment but it isn't working
@@Casey250 comparing two ways of "equipment" designed for Camping lets Others make up their own minds.
. I compared A quick "Masonry Heater" to "A California Mass Heater" in our house and let Them Decide "which was Real Warmth." the Mass Heater was working but failed to Last an hour. we would have froze that night if The Masonry Heater also didn't work! .. . Fired Up the Masonry Heater, an old Finnish Design from the 1400's AD. - it took about an hour to warm up yet Held its Heat for nearly 9 Hours in -10 Degree Northern Minnesota Winter Conditions. ( Hoours Later, we added New Wood and let it do its job. ) . both methods worked off of The Same Principles. I did THAT as a Joke. .. Now, 3 Years Later, Masonry Heaters are being The Standards and Mass Heaters are being Dismantled.
. all it was "was a simple comparison Test." Only did it once. The Views are Still Peeking Revenue. .. 3 Years, One Joke taken Seriously. A Simple Comparison. I let The Viewers Decide. . That's The Point. ^____^ .. let The Products Sell Themselves - if they can . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
