Chrysler Neon - Top Gear 1999

The Chrysler / Dodge / Plymouth Neon is a front-engine, front-wheel drive compact car that was introduced in January 1994 for model year 1995 by Chrysler's Dodge and Plymouth divisions in two- and four-door bodystyles over two generations.
In this bit from 1999 series 42, Quentin Willson is checking out the new facelift of the Chrysler Neon, giving it a quick review with some comparing to other European cars.

I had a Neon once. It was actually pretty good to drive. However as time went but all sorts of issues started to piling up.

We got the Neon in Australia too from 1996 (Chrysler Jeep returned in 1993) and they were usually as much or more expensive than most rivals, they were aiming it as an unusual left field choice to the Japanese and Europeans but with cheap build Spartan features (especially a 3 speed auto) and quirky styling it never made an impact

In europe they were cheaper than the rivals,and you can get a more powerful engine for the same price.
But the car is ureliable due bad quality and here the spare parts are pricier than BMW

Amazing Car and unique… very reliable car, and luxurious with the LX trim… unique ❤… all the rovers and old bmw a lot of problems here in Argentina and rovers haha they just disappear (that British quality rubbish). If you don’t own one please don’t let your opinion about this fantastic car

It has a very big boot. A lot of head room. With the strped thing on the rear glass, its very good for party goers to lie on their back and rest on the backseat i.e. if you own it, you should be the sober one, bringing them home. Further its intended to b value money, its not really fast.
If you thinks its a small car you listen too much too americans, its roomy. It has a firm, big, thrusting airco with a knob. Not some flimsy soft touch.. a knobby knob that turns the wrong way. Like usa cars in those days, it does not do the journalists race for direct steering ooh this alfa. 147 is 2,1 left to right instead of 2,7. Its rear suspension is independant what mazda would call ttl. And what differs the audi3 of its day from golf
